23 Jan A Ackley, Mr. and Mrs. Roswell Golden Wedding Anniversary, Mr. Roswell Ackley and Almira Southworth. A brief history was read by Mr. C. C. Ackley who told about Roswell being only 8 yrs when his father died, 13yrs when his mother died. He m. 1827, has 8 children. Feb 1st 1848 after a weeks journey, they arrived in Clymer Twp., coming from Tompkins Co., Ny. They lifed in a log house which is still on property in 1877. The mother would spin, Knit, sew, pick berries in the summer. In the fall and winter, dry apples while the father would make shoes nights and browse his cows and oxen by day. In the spring he used boiled peas and beans in place of potatoes. We had cow slip dandelions and other greens for dessert. We were days and weeks without any milling, except some wheat bran and were fortunate to have a good seeve to sift our bran. We were compelled to go to Jasper, NY., to mill. There were a few acres cleared and an orchard set out when we arrived. We ate apples raw, stewed, baked and fried. We would follow father to the forest b
