| 1862 | 14-May | Elmira Daily Advertizer | Local and Miscellaneous News: - The Parsonage of the Presbyterian Church in the Town of Wells, Pa., was burned down on Saturday last during the high wind which prevailed that day. It caught from the spark from the chimney. The fury of the wind was such that all the efforts to extinguish the flames were unavailing. Rev. Mr. Jewell, Pastor of the Church, occupied the premises. There was no insurance upon the house or the furniture, of which very little was saved. His library was a total loss, which he feels more severely that anything else. |

Her brother-in-law, William Scott, and niece were riding in the same carriage, when the horse became frightened at the stream of water from the hoe of the Steam Fire Engine broke over them...nearly opposite the Brainard Block on Water St....Mrs. Cole removed to her residence on Baldwin St... Dr. H.S. Chubbuck set the fractured bone. (Note:-the Hose company was practicing!) |
