THE SOLDIER DEAD: There are at present sleeping
in our cemeteries, the bodies of 2,937 Southern and 129 Northern Soldiers.
Brevet Major Gen. Ingalls, Assistant Quarter Master General at New York
County, has expressed orders, that suitable fences be erected about the
places where they lie buried, the ground decorated and proper headboards
to mark the grave of each. John Leavitt will visit New York to ascertain
the details of these instructions and attend that they be carried out. |

the graves of our soldiers on Saturday. |
