This was one of the earliest churches in Tioga county. It was founded in
1842. It was built on ground presented by its first pastor, Rev. Amos Mansfield.
In the early part of this century it fell into disuse and only annual services
were held until the 1970s. Vandalism created great damage to it and it
was finally razed in the 1990s.
No cemetery is associated with this church, but the Wood
Cemetery of Sullivan Township, which was visible from the church
was erroneously associated with it. Both Rev. Mansfield and his wife, Eliza,
are buried in the Wood Cemetery and many other individuals buried in the
Wood Cemetery were members of the church, but except for neighborhood proximity,
they were not associated.
