We have abundant reason for thanking God, who in his kind Providence has so graciously watched over our little church family. This past year has been filled with dangerous months of pain, and suffering, and loss. But we have been spared. Nearly all the young men of our communities have come back from the scenes of death in Europe. And none of our members has been counted in that awful toll of the influenza epidemic. At the close of this year, but four of our members are missing. God has seen fit to call these from their labors here below. We submit our wills to His, but their places are still empty in our midst. And though we were to write much more, could we say anything more to their credit, or more satisfying to our own hearts, that they died in the faith, and going, left a memory for us that sweetens and inspires us who have been left behind.
The first to hear the call was Mrs. Martha Rorick, who answered the golden summon on April third, 1918.
Then in glorious triumph, Mrs. Jane Hamilton went Home, singing praises to her Lord and King, on the first day of February, 1919. Mrs. Hamilton has been a member of our church for years., though she has not lived in Chemung for some time. Those who know the life she once lived in this community, in the memory of the life, gather strength for the carrying of their own burdens and inspiration to be of service to others. There are many here today who praise those kindly hands bidden to do their Master’s calling.
Then on the twenty-eighth of February, 1919, Mrs. Julius Ameigh joined the King. Mrs. Ameigh’s life and name are associated lovingly with the early days of triumph which the society at Oak Hill once beheld.
The last to be called was Brother Horace Swain. We lost in Brother Swain the oldest member of our family. Although he was in his seventy-ninth year, the summons came rather unexpectedly, in the early morning hours of the twenty-ninth of last June. He has been with the King now almost three months, and his place is empty at the Owens Mills church. Brother Swain was one of those who watched the glory of the Lord gather into a society of Christian workmen at Owens Mills in those days of formation. He went with his brethren up to the house of the Lord. Ans as he traveled further on this pilgrim journey the things of this world grew less attractive, while his fellowship with God grew sweeter and more real. Today he is viewing with immortal eyes a sunrise far more beautiful than once he beheld breaking over the hilltops covered with virgin forests at Owens Mills.
So, one by one, as the years come and go, the members of our church are gathering on that celestial shore. The Chemung Circuit has a goodly company there, and soon we, too, will join them. Oh, what a home gathering that will be when we all shall have arrived. As we anticipate the future, should we not appreciate our Christian fellowship here the more, that we may know how to enter at once into that Eternal Fellowship there.

Members changing their address will kindly notify the Pastor, in order that a correct registry be made.
A postal card or phone call or message by a friend will bring the Pastor to your home for pastoral service. Do not expect him to know that there is sickness in your home unless you notify him, as he has no other certain way of knowing it.
Do not forget to follow the example of Our Lord, who was found regularly in the synagogue on the Sabbath Day. Your attendance at the services will bring blessings to you, will be an inspiration to the preacher and will be a good example for others.
If you have not found a place where you can do some useful work in the church, let the Pastor know. There is a place for everyone to fill, and a place where everyone can serve.
Do not forget that this is a day when the man who would be successful must be informed. The farmer who refuses to read and keep abreast of the times is doomed to failure. The Christian, to be a successful, full-powered, producing church member, must keep in touch with the forward van of the onward marching church. These are the days of action. Each new day writes some new history. The Christian Advocate will keep you informed and will tell you where the millions of dollars paid into the Centenary fund are going. Invest $2.50 in a year’s subscription to the New York Christian Advocate. We have twenty-seven subscribers to this great church paper on the Circuit now. If it is not in yours, subscribe now.
With much prayer and labor, we have accomplished the first year’s program of the great Centenary awakening. We are looking as confidently into the new year before us, with its splendid challenge. This year we shall, with the help of God, match our dollars with souls. The coal set by the church is one million converts brought into the Kingdom of God by July 1, 1920. The Chemung Circuit did its part financially and it shall do its part spiritually this coming year. Will you become an interceder at the throne of Grace? If you cannot serve God and man in any other way you can pray. We have seventy signed intercessors on the Circuit now; will you make it seventy-one, and begin praying that this evangelistic program next year may be the beginning of the greatest revival the world has ever seen? The time is ripe for such praying.
