Old Shellman Cemetery (aka Woodbury) Chatham Township,
Tioga County, Pa

The old family burial ground is located in Chatham
Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania on Swing Gate Road, 1/2 mile west of the
intersection with R436 (Dug Road). It is 260 feet south of Swing Gate Road in a
clump of trees and shrubs. It is also located 290 feet west-southwest of the NW
corner of the nearby pond. The burial ground is located on private property,
owned by Mr. And Mrs. Ric Vespe.
The Old Shellman cemetery is a family burial ground with
two visible fallen headstones. It is overgrown and in poor condition. There is
some evidence of possible other burials but visual inspection and probing did
not locate other headstones in 2012. Due to woodchuck activity, the two sunken
areas are in doubt as to whether they are burials. Stones turned up by tree
growth and thrown into the area from the fields has confused the evidence to
whether there are field stone markers.
