01 JAN 2000 Cemetery List Dated 1973 The Old Osceola Cemetery and adjoining Fairview Cemetery OSCEOLA ,TIOGA COUNTY, PA.
|
The Osceola Cemetery Association has its grounds on an eminence west of the village and north of the Cowanesque road. The cemetery is enclosed in a well maintained fence with an ornamental gateway at the entrance inscribed with the legend "MAN GOETH TO HIS LONG HOME."
The association was incorporated by an order of the Court of Common Pleas, of Tioga County, April 21st, 1876. Its officers were: Robert Hammond, president, Charles Tubbs, Secretary, Russel Grandall, Treasurer. The association owns 220 perches of land, one third of which is occupied by the indiscriminate and unregulated buried of the past seventy years and the remainder is divided into symmetrical family burial lots. In the old part of the ground are many unmarked graves.
For the above information we reference 1883 History of Tioga County, Penna. The following inscriptions were copied summer of 1973 by Rhoda ENGLISH Ladd and A. William Ladd, R.D. 3 Box 135, Wellsboro, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, 16901.
Please note: This Cemetery is still in use. The association has purchased adjoining land so descendants of the pioneers can still bury their family here.
I have not alphabetized the burials. The advantage of alphabetization is that
you can do a quicker search. The advantage of not alphabetizing is that you get
information about who is buried near whom.Use the search engine which is
reindexed at least monthly.
