Hulslander Cemetery

The Hulslander Cemetery is on the North Road in Sullivan Township, renamed
Hulslander Road in the most recent renaming of roads by the highway department.
Locally it is still called the North Road. Jacob HULSLANDER and Elizabeth COX
were the pioneer settlers of Sullivan who founded the Hulslander family which
remains in the area to this day. Elizabeth and Jacob moved form Orange County NY
to Tompkins County NY in 1813 and then to Sullivan about 1830. Elizabeth is
buried in the Hulslander Cemetery. Jacob may be buried by the large center stone
or in an unmarked grave or his could be one of two graves marked with a field
stone near the orchard which have been reported to have been plowed over many
years ago.The source of this information is from a cemetery reading and from
records given by William L. Hulslander in 1973. This appeared in Tioga County
Cemeteries Vol. 1. Information from more recent obituaries recorded in
