The following list is part of the Tioga County Cemetery Inscriptions– Volume 3.  Copied by Rhoda ENGLISH Ladd and Lola WETHERBEE Franke August 2, 1972.   Reprinted with permsission of Rhoda ENGLISH Ladd.

The second largest cemetery in Deerfield is incorporated as the Highland Cemetery Association and the cemetery is known as the Butler Hill Cemetery. It is located opposite the Baptist Church on Butler Hill. Wanting to have a burial ground in East Chatham, as this area was called, a meeting was held Sept. 14, 1869 at the home of Rev. Selden Butler for the purpose of making arrangements for the purchase of a lot from Elihu Bowen and Selden Butler. It is located on Road 58028.
