At the present time (1999) we have not been able to gain access to the
cemetery by the present owners of the property. We hope to settle this
amicably, but we need specific information on the Pennsylvania laws regarding
access by descendants and historians to pioneer burial grounds.

Dear Joyce:
I went to the old Kennedy Cemetery today and talked to John Newhart, who owns the property. He said your group would be welcome to visit the cemetery as long as you stop at his home beside it and ask to visit it. This is a cemetery you have listed as having a problem getting to.
Anyway, the former owner of the property fenced-in the cemetery at one time and used it for a hog pen. All the tombstones were knocked over and Mr. Newhart has found as many as he could that were buried over the years.
The only stones that could be seen read as follows: Alexander Kennedy, Died November 12, 1747, 83 years, 7M; Catherine, wife of A. Kennedy, Died August 20, 1853, Ag'd 82 yrs, 10 M.; Hugh C. son of Alanson & Lydia Smith died March 7, 1843, aged 6 years, 6 months, 21 dys.; M.C. ; Betsy M. wife of M.M. Kennedy, Mar. 19, 1856 age 12 yrs & 1 mo; Martha wife of Hosea Caneda died March 12, 1837, AE 28y 10M's 8D.
Also, your Case Cemetery listing shows "Kennedy 1894 -1927." I visited that cemetery and the name "Harry Z." is inscribed across the top of this Kennedy stone as well as "Co H 345th INF."
Hope this helps.
