Tioga County Bicentennial Celebration
Tioga County  Bicentennial Celebration:
will be held Friday afternoon, March 26, 2004, in the Main Building of the Fairgrounds at Whitneyville. The public is invited. The building will be open at 1 PM. There will be a postal substation set up to cancel mail with a special Bicentennial postmark that can only be mailed that day. There will be special envelopes available with Tioga County images on them for purchase or people can bring their own envelopes to be postmarked for souvenirs or to mail.
Also available will be commemorative items for sale to include:
-The 2004 Bicentennial calendar with over 40 pictures from all the townships and boros in the county
-An iron paper weight showing a miner pulling a coal cart produced by Ward Manufacturing, Blossburg
-A red, glass Christmas ornament showing the TCHS Robinson House Museum produced by Osram-Sylvania, Wellsboro
-A package of two 60 watt lamp bulbs with a Bicentennial marking, produced by Osram-Sylvania, Wellsboro
-A leather coaster depicting the lumbering/tanning industry, produced by the Westfield Tanning Co., Westfield

The program will start at 2 PM with Dr. Bonelyn Kyofski as Master of Ceremony. I don't know how many details you want but there will be some music, opening, welcome by the Commissioners, introduction of special guests (including local politicians) remarks by Judge Dalton, a short presentation, called "Tioga," by the Hamilton-Gibson theater group, remarks by Governor Edward Rendell, presentation of commemorative gifts to him, closing and birthday cake. The order is a bit fluid because of the uncertainty of the exact time of the Governor's arrival.
I have generalized the program details. There are still some specifics that have to be settled yet. Another meeting of the Bicentennial Committe will be next Tuesday.
All of the above commemorative items are available now at the historical society (except for the leather coasters which I hope arrive soon!). Do you want prices of them to publish?
