Hi, Joyce, (May 2006)
I love the information I find on your site!
This winter while I was in Cochise County , Az. I picked up the book "the Southwest of John Horton Slaughter".  Mr Slaughter was sheriff of Cochise County which includes Tombstone Az.
Tombstone Az was founded by Ed Schiffelin had gone to the Mule Mountains in search of gold or silver.  He was told by a friend, Al Sieber, that all he would find out ther is his tombstone.  He found the silver mine he was searching for and named the town Tombstone.
The book states that Ed Schieffelin was born October 11, 1847 in Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  I found teh Sheifflins living in Charleston Township in 1850,  Father B , 27, Mother Jane, 23, Edward, 3 and A.E. 1.  Ed's brother Al was a partner in the silver mine in Tombstone.
Maybe we need a page for famous Tioga County residents?

Anyway, I thought it was fun.
