Beaver Meadows

the Church and it's people

This book was prepared for the sole purpose of researching the history of the church and the families of the Beaver Meadows area. After all the church is only as good as the people who make it work. Without caring people there is no church. It has been a labor of love. With many feelings of great accomplishments, and the sadness of knowing there is still more out there that I have not found. I quickly found out that researching the Beaver Meadows history would not be easy. I would never find everything I wanted to know. It was the impossible dream. One question leads to another, then another. That made me research even harder. I am sure, like a seed planted; the unfound information will intrigue the next historian. One important missing item is the original membership book and the original Quarterly Conference book. What history they could reveal. We pray they will turn up someday!

When faced with the obstacle of missing books, I took to the community. That was a blessing in disguise not to have them for research. With them I might not have met so many wonderful people, and found out just exactly what every family has contributed to our church. I have recorded their stories. There maybe errors as no two people can tell the same story twice, nor in the same manor. To error is human after all. As in all history some of the written information may have been recorded many years after the original event. Thus allowing time for error. There have been numerous recordings just jotted down, no author given credit. I am reasonably confident that the following records are as correct as they can possibly be with the information I was able to obtain. If you find errors, please let me know so hey can be corrected. Enough mistakes in history have been recorded already.

I hope you enjoy reading the following history, and watch the humble beginning of the Beaver Meadows Church unfold, and blossom into the hub of the Beaver Meadows community that it is now.

Carol Brotzman, Historian, Compiled 1996 to 2000

Special credits go to

Mae Fassett, Mary Schweitzer, Jenella Ryan, Caroline Ellsworth, Grace Bennett, Alice Sivers, Glenn Bennett and Herb and Dean Button

This is what every good church needs, a "Garden of Life"

First plant five rows of P's: Presence, Promptness, Preparation, Preservation, and Purity. Next plant three rows of squash: squash gossip, squash indifference, and squash-unjust criticism.  Then plant five rows of lettuce: let us be faithful to duty, let us be unselfish and loyal, let us obey the rules and regulations, let us be true to our obligations, let us love one another. No garden is complete without turnips.  Turn up for meetings, turn up with a smile, turn up to make everything count for something good and worthwhile. Roots Digest February 1986

If anyone would like to make a donation to the Beaver Meadows Church for using the book please send donations to Donna Bennett, Box 1184, RD#1, Laceyville, Pennsylvania 18623.
