This restaurant opened in 1948 as The Green Lantern by Gladys Brooks Schirmer. It has been operated by several individuals and families. Among them are the Kendricks, and Dee and Stan Borden. It remains a popular business to the present.

Local Couple Opens "Green Lantern"
A new service station and restaurant has been opened three miles south of Mansfield on Route 15, offering 24-hour service to travels along the Susquehanna Trail. The restaurant, to be know as the Green Lantern, is operated by Mr. & Mrs. Fred Schirmer, of Mansfield; Mrs. Schirmer was formerly Miss Gladys Brooks, of Mansfield. Mrs. Schirmer is experienced in the restaurant business, having worked at the Penn-Wells Hotel, Wellsboro, and at the Cross Trail Restaurant in Mansfield two years. The color motif throughout the building is a pastel green and white. It has a seating capacity of 80 persons, with a private dining room which will seat 54 and which is available for parties and organization dinner meetings. The kitchen is modern, with an electric automatic dishwasher. Music is furnished, in the fresh clean atmosphere of the food bar, by a record player. Mr. Schirmer's menu will feature sea food dinners along with the usual bill of fare. Ample parking space off the highway is available to its patrons. The service station, offering Esso Service, is operated by Gordon and Bill Wheeler, of Mansfield.
