His body was interred AUG 1931 in State Road Cemetery, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. 1897 Tioga County History - Wilton GRAY, second son ofLafayette and Amanda, was born in Sullivan Township and was reared upon the homestead farm. After completing his primary education in the district schools, he attended the Wellsboro graded schools until 1870, since which time he has devoted his attention to farming. Mr. GRAy is a stanch Republican, and both he and his wife are members of the State Road Baptist Church. He is connected with Mainesburg Lodge, No. 754, I. O. O. F., and takes a deep interest in public affairs. Mr. GRAY is recognized as one of the progressive young farmers of his native township, in which his entire life has been passed.

Laura died 19 MAY 1954 in Hershey, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, at age 98. MRS. ANNA R. GRAY: Mrs. Anna R. Gray, 97, formerly of Mainesburg, died Wednesday, May 19, 1954, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Allen B. Rockwell, at Hershey, Pa. She was the widow or Wilton D. Gray. She was a member of the State Road Baptist Church. Survived by daughter, Mrs. Allen B. Rockwell, 5 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Shaw and Robena Funeral Home, where friends may call after Thursday, and where the funeral will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m., the Rev. D. J. Griffiths officiating. Burial will be in State Road Cemetery.

GRAY ---- LAFAYETTE GRAY, aged 79, of Sullivan Township, was due to pneumonia and occurred after only a short illness. Mr. Gray was the eldest son of Mr. James Gray and was born in Gray's Valley, in Sullivan, on the homestead farm where he died and on which most of his life was spent. After obtaining a good common school education, the deceased taught school in this county for nine years, beginning in 1840. He then devoted himself to farming and followed that occupation during the rest of his life. He was twice married and is survived by four children. His first wife was Amanda Haven, of Bradford County,. His second wife was Mrs. Aletta Baker, a daughter of Mr. Laben Rockwell, of Rutland Township and she survives him. He is survived also by his four children who were born to his first wife. They are James E. and Wilton D. Gray and Mrs. W. D. Rose, all of Sullivan Township, and Fred L. Gray, who resides in the state of Oregon. Mr. Gray had been a strong Republican ever since the establishment of that party. He was a consistent member of the Baptist Church. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. L. M. Gates, of Mansfield, and Rev. Mr. Craig, of the State Road Baptist church were held from the Gray homestead on the 6th instant. He obtained a good common school education, and from 1846 to 1855 he taught in the public schools of the county. Since that time he has devoted his time to farming, making dairying a specialty. Prior to 1856, Mr. GRAY was a Democrat, since which year he has been an ardent Republican. (Note: in 1856, the Republican party was new and ran as a third party. It's first candidate was Abraham Lincoln.) He filled the office of school director about nine years, and both he and his family are connected with the Baptist Church."

ROSE - ELLIOTT S. ROSE In the death between 2 and 3 o’clock last Friday morning of Elliott S. Rose, Tioga County lost one of its oldest and most respected citizens. Born in the then wilderness of Sullivan Township, June 20, 1817, he was a native of the community which for so many years had been his home. Though always a farmer, he dealt largely for many years in live stock and in grain. So successful was he in these ventures that he rose by degrees from poverty to the possession of a goodly competency. In his youth Mr. Rose spent one summer in Massachusetts, going and coming most of the way on foot. Returning he applied the proceeds of his labor toward reducing the encumbrance on the broad acres which with various additions now constitute the Rose homestead. Though bodily infirmity had increased with his advancing years it was not until a few months ago that the rapid decline began which ended in his demise on the fifty-eighth anniversary of his marriage with Laura A. Morgan, who survives him with three son and one daughter, Anna, Mrs. William Gray, of Sullivan; W. P. rose of Roaring Branch, Morgan E. of the boro and Warren P. of Sullivan. He was a charter member of the State Road Baptist Church from which his funeral was largely attended at 2 o’clock on Sunday, the Rev. J. A. James officiating. The bearers were Nelson and Van Buren Reynolds, Lyman Smith, A. M. Andrews, N. L. Spalding and D. S. Dewey. The burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church. Of a family of seven all of whom were alive seven years ago, Mr. Bunnell B. Rose is now The only survivor.

Rose, son of Daniel and Sally Rose, was born in Sullivan, June 18th 1817, and is descended from one of the pioneers of the town. October 28th 1841 he married Miss L. A. Morgan, daughter of Dennis and Betsey Morgan who came from Massachusetts. They have three sons and a daughter. Mr. Rose is a farmer and formerly made dairying a specialty. Tioga County Agitator-Wednesday Aug. 22, 1860 issue: Died in Sullivan township, on the 25th inst., James Gray, aged 69 years. The deceased was one of the oldest settlers in this County having moved into Sullivan as early as 1807, where he continued to reside until the time of his death. He was an honored member of the Baptist church, beloved and respected by all who knew him. He was accidentally killed by falling from a load of hay. He died almost instantly. (James' presence in the 1860 census taken on 03 August 1860, indicates he died 25 August and not 25 July as preveiously interpreted. The date on the newspaper item above must be incorrect.)
His body was interred AUG 1860 in Gray Cemetery, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. 1897 Tioga County History page 1085 - James, second son of James and Parthenia, was born in Sharon, Connecticut November 25, 1790 and removed with his parents to Otsego County, New York in childhood. When he was fifteen years old, the family located in Sullivan Township, and his subsequent life was passed in Gray's Valley. He was a Whig until 1828, when he supported Andrew Jackson for the presidency and remained a Democrat until 1856. In that year he became a Republican, and voted that ticket until his death. For nearly twenty five years he served as justice of the peace, and was a postmaster at Gray's Valley for a long period. Mr. GRAY and family were members of the Baptist Church, in which he filled the offices of clerk and deacon for many years.
