[Actually Joshua probably had a first wife as Sarah was too young to be mother of the older children.Her identity has not yet been dicovered]

His body was interred NOV 1899 in Mainesburg Cemetery, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. He married Samantha E. Doud 22 MAR 1859 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. (Samantha E. Doud reference Obit) (Samantha E. Doud is #7250.) Samantha was born 02 AUG 1839 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Samantha was the daughter of Ripley H. Doud and Joanna Hill. Samantha died 02 AUG 1890 in Elmira, Chemung County, New York, at age 51. Death of Mrs. Arad T. Smith. Mrs. Arad T. Smith, of No. 519 West First street, died at her home yesterday morning$at 4 o’clock, of strangulated hernia, from which she has been a sufferer for a long time. She was the wife of Arad T. Smith, the West Water street groceryman, and had a large number of friends in this city. She was fifty-one years of age and leaves no children. Mr. Smith leaves at 9 o’clock Monday morning with the remains, for Mainesburg, Pa., where the funeral will be held.

Alexander was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. The 23 year old "Burton" Bradford is most likely Mary's brother. William who was that age at the eime., also 17 year old Mary Gilbert born in Wales was in household.
Alexander was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Monroe Genealogy page 352 Alexander C. Smith is a son of Jasper and Betsey Smith, and was born at Hector, N.Y. December 13th 1826. He came to Sullivan with his parents in 1834. His first work for himself was done at the age of 20. Soon afterward he located on the farm where he now resides, engaged in dairying, fruit-growing, and sugar-making. In 1882 he made 1,600 pounds of sugar. October 18th 1849 he married Mary A. daughter of Joseph and Mary Bradford of Sullivan. His children are Linnaeus A., Mary E., Merton R., and L. Frank; his son Mark J. having died at the age of 14 years. (1883 Tioga County History page 32 of appendix)

She married Frank C. Avery 23 SEP 1875 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Marriage mentioned in diary of Sadie Monroe. Also Mansfield Advertiser 6th Oct 1875: Married Frank C. Avery & Miss Mary E Smith of Sullivan Sept 23rd by Rev. S. L. Conde at home of A.C. Smith in Sullivan. This marriage apparently ended in divorce. (Frank C. Avery reference B1.1251195) (Frank C. Frank was born 1853 in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Frank was the son of William Avery* and Clorinda Bailey. Frank died 1902 at age 49. His body was interred 1902 in Watson Cemetery,Roseville, Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Frank's hotel in Roseville was the source of a fire that swept through the town. She married Sanford Gaylord Smith AFT 1892 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. (Sanford Gaylord Smith is #1930.) Sanford was born 13 DEC 1838 in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Sanford was the son of Morris Smith and Matilda Carrie Gaylord. He married Sally A. Smith 24 NOV 1860. He married Emma Keturah Smith 27 DEC 1870. He married Joanna Unknown (Chapman) AFT 1898. His body was interred in Prospect Cemetery, Mansfield, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. It appears that all three daughters died in their early twenties , probably of childbirth. Need better clarification on death dates of wives and remarriage dates, some overlap, needs confirmation.
Mate was divorced from Frank Avery JAN 1891 in Tioga County, Pennsylvania. F. C. Avery vs. Mary E. Avery, A. J. Shattuck appointed commissioner to take testimony, and the first Monday of January fixed for final hearing;
. Mate died two hours after surgery for a tumor in her Sullivan home.

14 v. Leonard Francis Smith (#9534) was born in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 23 DEC 1867. He married Josephine M. Dodge 20 DEC 1887 in Elmira, Chemung County, New York. Josie was born MAY 1871 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Josie was the daughter of Orrin Orson Dodge and Julietta Smith. Josie died in of Inglewood, Kansas, at age unknown. 1900 census of Inglewood, Kansas indicates a child of Josie and Frank who died young. Josephine and Frank lived in Ingelewood, Kansas.

Solomon died 17 MAY 1896 in Canton, Canton Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, at age 67. His body was interred MAY 1896 in State Road Cemetery, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Solomon was a member of the G.A.R. Ingham Post # 91 at Canton, PA. The SMITH homestead which Solomon and Lufannie occupied by 1857 was located between McIntosh Hollow and Chases Mill in Ward Township, Tioga County, PA.

Her body was interred 1919 in Gray Cemetery, Covington Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
He married Ella F. Briggs 1925. (Ella F. Briggs reference Obit) (Ella F. Briggs is #5122.) Ella was born 1857 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Ella was the daughter of John Briggs* and Anna Wood. She married George C. McConnell 20 DEC 1874 in Mansfield, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Ella died 9 JAN 1936 in Mansfield, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age 78. Obituary: Mrs. Ella Smith died unexpectedly at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, January 9, 1936, while shoveling snow from her sidewalk at her home on Second Street. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Briggs and was born in Sullivan Township 79 years ago. In 1876 she was married to George McConnell and for many years lived on the Newtown Road. Mr. McConnell died in 1918, and a short time later she sold the farm and purchased the property on Second Street. In 1925, she was married to George Smith, of Covington, and resided in Covington until after Mr. Smith's death in 1929, when she returned to her home in Mansfield. She had been a member of the Mansfield Methodist Church for many years.
Quiet and unassuming, always ready to help those in need, Mrs. Smith will be remembered for her many acts of kindness and thoughtfulness of others. Her life closed while she was still able to enjoy her home and friends and only a few days before her death she told her pastor that she was happy and contented. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. H.P. Leiby of State College; a son, Glenn McConnell of Mansfield; three grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Nobles of Delmar.
Funeral Sunday conducted at 2 p.m. at the home of her son, Glenn McConnell, on St. James street, and at 2:30 in the Methodist Church by the Rev. D. W. Baylis, Interment was in Prospect Cemetery. Pall bearers were James Searles, Fred Webster, Daniel Mudge, Fred Bennett, John Brace, and Carl Wilcox.
Her body was interred JAN 1936 in Prospect Cemetery, Mansfield, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Gorge was a carpenter. He owned a house on State Street in Covington.

Thomas was the son of Alfred Furman and Elizabeth Jane Gustin. Thomas died 2 JUN 1927 in Canton, Canton Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, at age 75. Landon * and Nancy Ann Newell. John died 10 DEC 1910 in Kingston,Pennsylvania, at age 55. His body was interred DEC 1910 in Mt. Greenwood Cemetery, Shavertown, Pennsylvania. She married James Kearney Carey * 12 OCT 1910 in Sayre, Athens Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. (James Kearney Carey * is #24897.) James was born 09 Oct 1864. 4. Huldah2 Smith (Jasper1) (#3183) was born in Hector, Schuyler, New York 16 DEC 1833. Individual flags: Photograph; Obit. Huldah died 8 JAN 1899 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age 65. Obituary: Huldah SMITH, beloved wife of Hon. Isaac SQUIRES, died last Sunday morning a few minutes before 4 o'clock at her home in Sullivan, aged 65 years and 23 days. Mrs. Squires' health had been impaired for a long itme. For more than a year she had been nearly helpless from heart and lung trouble. Her decline had been very rapid for the last two weeks. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Smith, pioneers of Sullivan who settled on the State Road at a very early day. She united when a young girl witht the Gray Valley Baptist Church and continued through life a consistent member of that denomination. She was ever a loving wife and mother and a kind neighbor. Besides her husband whe leaves one son, Mr. William J. SQUIRES and one daughter, Mrs. Elisha Orvis, both of Sullivan. Three brothers also survive her - Lyman, Harrison and Arad SMITH. The funeral is to be held this afternoon at 1 o'clock at the house, the Rev. J. A. JAMES and H. E. HYDE officiating. The burial will be in the Gray Valley Cemetery. She married Isaac Squires 22 FEB 1852. (Isaac Squires is #3162.) Isaac was born 14 MAR 1830 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Isaac was the son of William Sturgis Squires and Charlotte Barrows. Isaac died 24 JUL 1906 in Gray Valley, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age 76. Obituary: Hon. Isaac SQUIRES - One of Sullivan's Oldest and Most Prominent Residents Passed Away on Tuesday - The Hon. Isaac SQUIRES died at his home in Sullivan at 1 o'clock Tuesday morning. He had been in ill health for some time, but was confined to his bed only during the last week.
Mr. SQUIRES was born in Sullivan March 14, 1830, and his whole life was spent in the one community. Since reaching his majority he had served in several township offices, including constable, collector and justice of the peace. With credit to himself and his constituents, he served two terms as representative in the Pennsylvania legislature. He was a kindly, cheery man, making friends in whatsoever place his lines were cast. His was an upright, honorable life, which brought to him the esteem of the community and the love of family and friends. The world is better for his having lived. His surviving immediate family are a son, William J. SQUIRES; one daughter, Mrs. Elisha Orvis of Sullivan; one brother, Lloyd SQUIRES, and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Doud and Mrs. H. W. Smith. Numerous other relatives live in Sullivan and vicinity. Mrs. R. E. Urell, of Mansfield, is a niece. The obsequies will be conducted from the house on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. His body was interred JUL 1906 in Gray Valley Cemetery, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
Isaac Squires was born in Sullivan in 1830. He married Miss Huldah Smith, of the same township, and they have two children. His occupation is farming and he owns 240 acres. He was magistrate five years from 1860; was elected again in 1872 and served ten years. He has also been constable and collector. (Isaac was frequently given the title "Hon." or "Esq." as was used for public officials. (1883 Tioga County History page 32 of appendix)

SMITH - Nelson J. Smith, aged 76 years, of Mansfield, died May 9 [1949]. He was a son of Lyman and Charlotte Welch Smith and was born Aug. 25, 1872, in Sullivan township. He graduated from Mansfield Normal School, now State Teachers College, in 1896 and taught for two years. June 16, 1897, he married Miss Edith Rose, of Sullivan. For the past 50 years Mr. Smith had resided in Mansfield, where he was associated with his father-in-law, the late Warren D. Rose, in the farm produce business for many years and was owner of the Smith Poultry Farm. Mr. Smith was a member of the State Road Baptist church and was a member of Friendship Lodge, F&AM. Besides his widow he is survived by a niece, Miss Edna Smith, of Mansfield, and several cousins. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Shaw & Robena Funeral Home, Rev. David J. Edith died 13 APR 1955 in Mansfield, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age 77. Rose, Edith Smith Mrs. Edith Rose Smith, 78, of Mansfield, died Wednesday, April 13, 1955. She was the widow of Nelson J. Smith. A life long resident of Mansfield, she retained membership in the Sullivan State Road Baptist Church and was active in the Mansfield Baptist Church, including the Friendship Class and the Women's Missionary Society. She was a member of the Wellsboro Chapter, DAR, and the Mansfield Literary Club. Surviving are two brothers, Fred E. Rose, Mansfield, and Harold M. Rose, Williamsport; one niece and one nephew. Services were Friday at the funeral home, 18 North Main Street; with her pastor the Rev. David J. Griffiths, officiating. Burial in Prospect Cemetery.
Her body was interred APR 1955 in Prospect Cemetery, Mansfield, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. The 1897 Tioga County History recorded that Edith had graduated from the Normal School at Mansfield in 1895 and was engaged in teaching.
