This is a nice little booklet that I obtained off EBAY for a couple of dollars. It is a four page booklet consisting of 3 poems, a generic schoolhouse page, and a page of pertinent school information.
In those days, the school was known as the "Warren" school, as it sat in what was known as the Sands Warren tract, on the 1865 town of Chemung map.
I called up Dale Culver; we knew the same people, Ray Warren, Leo Champion, Clara Groves who marrried Harvey Barr; Lacey Decker whose wife was Bertha, whose children were Ray, Donnie, Anna, John, Alice, and RoyLee, in decending order. I went to school with the Decker kids. Tom Cornell is probably a relative of Doc Cornell, the famous surgeon, who summer home is next door to the schoolhouse - both still stand. I caddied for Doc Cornell and his wife at Shepherd Hills CC, they were such nice people.
From Burt Beers 7/22/06:
I saw Dr. Cornell from various distances both around his house and over at the CSW plant. Never had the privilege of meeting him. Dad came to know him quite well, since Dr. Cornell drove to the plant to purchase water. If Dad were on hand when Doc Cornell arrived, he made time to talk with him. Their conversations, as I recall, often went on for some time. Dad's impression was that the Doctor loved is time back home and that the folks living in the vicinity were always glad to see him come for a summer's stay. He told Dad that, especially he went outside to tidy the lawn or whatever, he always kept his medical bag where he didn't have to walk far to get it. More often than not folks would stop to chat and to ask about some medical problem that was bothering them. He enjoyed these contacts, never failing--as he put it--to look over the problem, hand out pills if he has the or write a prescription. He called this "ditchbank medicine."
