Dear Joyce,
I am so excited. Tonight I found your photo of Betsey and John
Dubert and their marriage certificate. I have been searching for
a long time for Peter Broock, knowing only that his wife's name was Elizabeth
and her parents were Andrew Dubert and Fronie Messing. She must have
been an older sister of John. I have a date for her birth as 9/27/1839
in Germany. I see that Betsey an John were married in the presence
of Peter Broock and Elizabeth Broock. They were the parents of my
grandmother, Lizzie Sophia Broock Whiting. My dad, F. Leland Whiting, still
living at 97, knew only that she had moved from the Bradford, PA. area
to central NYS. I have fond memories of visiting them in Cortland,
New York. Dad said that she told him her father would never allow
them to speak German in their home. He was under the impression that
their name was Von Broock before they came to the US. Can you confirm
or add anything to the above information? My dad would be so happy
to know more about his mother's background. So would I. Thank
you for putting the picture on the internet. It has made my day.
