Reading a series of obituaries from a single cemetery, as they are presented here, is like reading the multi-generational history of a community. These people were the local populace at a particular time. The people buried here knew each other, were neighbors, relatives and school mates. They attended church together and engaged in "trade" or business. All people are listed in alphabetic order by surname at BIRTH. Women identified by a married alias only and for whom a birth surname can not be identified, are listed on the last page for the cemetery's obituaries. EAMES Deloris B. Beschler
Age 73, of Van Orden St., Horseheads, died on Thurs. Apr. 7, 2011 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She was born Dec. 9, 1937 in Elmira, NY, to Margaret (Simpson) Eames and the late John Eames. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James Beschler; sons and daughters, John Beschler of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Thomas Beschler of Sicklerville, NJ, Timothy Beschler of Williamstown, NJ, Tamara (Paul) Ashway of Willow Street, PA, Katherine (Jerry) Richardson of Mountain Home, ID; mother, Margaret Johnston of Danville, IL; 5 grandchildren; brother, John Eames of Dangerfield, TX; sister, Sue Coffman of Peoria, IL. Predeceased by brother, Alan Eames. Deloris was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. After raising her family she went to work for the Horseheads Free Library for over 20 years. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Horseheads. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. EARL –AMY M. CASE, age 73, of Standish Street, Elmira, New York, died on Saturday, January 25, 2003 at home. She was born on September 15, 1929 in Elmira, NY to the late Charles C. and Neve Addie (Belcher) Ear. Amy was predeceased by her husband Byron Case in October of 2000. Survivors include her sons; Steven Case of Tucson, AZ, Ronald (Debra) Case of Elmira, Byron (Lorrie) Case of Campbell, NY and John (Victoria) Case of Elmira; daughters, Carol A. MacGregor of Scottsdale, AZ, Roxann (Klye) Case-Hicks of Virginia Beach, VA, Pamela (Willies) Ramsey of Elmira and Jacquelyn (Fred) Butler of Erin, NY; brother, Lysander Earl of Bradenton, FL; sisters, Becerley Burns of Bradenton, FL and Ina (Edward) Merrero of Wellsburg, NY; 32 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. There will be no prior calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 28th at 6 PM at the Corning Church of the Nazarene, 10242 Hamilton Road, Corning, NY, with Rev. EARLEY - APPLIN, Barbara I.
Age 87, of Elmira, NY, died
on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born on September
3, 1922 in Dansville, NY to the late Francis and Barbara Earley Sr. Barbara was
predeceased by her husband, Leo Applin; sisters, Catherine Besanceney and Jean
Berger; and brothers, Francis Earley Jr. and John Earley. She is survived by
her sons, Michael and Christopher both of Elmira; daughter, Kathleen (Terry)
Ridosh of Elmira; grandsons, Shawn Applin of San Francisco, CA and Randy Applin
of Boston, MA; sister, Mary Randall of Dansville, NY; sisters-in-law, Doris
Earley of Pine City and Marie Earley of Tucson, AZ; along with several beloved
nieces and nephews. Both she and Leo were employed for many years by Physical
Culturist, Bernarr MacFadden at his hotels in Dansville, NY and Miami Beach,
FL. After leasing the Mansfield Hotel in Mansfield, PA for several years, the
family moved to Passaic, NJ where Barbara was employed as office manager of
Local 145 of the I.L.G.W.U. After returning to Elmira, she was employed by
Chemung Valley Savings & Loan Assoc., which later merged with Columbia
Banking of Rochester from which she retired. She was a prolific reader and
enjoyed word games, all spectator sports and card games, especially euchre and
poker. Her primary care and concern was always her family. Family and friends
are invited to call on Tuesday, June 22nd, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the
James D. Barrett Funeral Home. A Prayer Service will take place there on
Wednesday, June 23rd, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at
11 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, with Father Richard Farrell as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Woodlawn National Cemetery. The family would like to
give a special thanks to Sarah Fitch and her family for their kindness, and to
the nursing staff on the 5th floor at St. Joseph's Hospital and Dr. Corbalan

EARLEY - DEMARK, Betty Earley
Age 88, of Elmira, NY, died on Thursday, July 30, 2009, at St. Joseph's
Hospital, Elmira. She is the wife of the late Gabe DeMark. Betty is survived by
her children, Daniel (Darlene) DeMark of Elmira, NY, Richard (Lorraine) DeMark
of Pine City, NY, and Carol (Robert) Morris of Elmira, NY; grandchildren,
Deanna, Tony, Stacy, and Tracy DeMark, Jamie (Lauren) Morris, Kevin and
Julianne Morris; great-grandchildren, Brian DeMark and Tyler Petrie;
great-great-grandchild, Kalysta DeMark. Along with her husband, her parents and
sister, Patricia Vickery, predecease Betty. She was a communicant of St. Mary's
Roman Catholic Church, Elmira, NY. The family will receive friends at Olthof
Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira/Southport, NY on Sunday,
August 2, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service there
Sunday evening at 8:00 p.m., Father Robert MacNamara will officiate. Betty will
be laid to rest next to her husband, Gabe, in Woodlawn National Cemetery,

BALLARD W..ECKERT
age 91 of Elmira. He was born on March 9, 1929, son of the late Mark
M. and Madeline (Ballard) Eckert of Sayre, PA and passed away peacefully at
home on Friday, January 15, 2021. Ballard was a caring husband to his
surviving wife of 35 years, Mary Ann; he was a devoted father in seven. In
addition to his parents, Ballard was predeceased by his daughter Kathleen
Bartlett; sisters Isabel Post of Waverly, NY, and Barbara Griffin of Elmira,
Virginia Hulett of Las Vegas, NV; and brother Mark M. Eckert Jr., of
Fairport, NY. Along with Mary Ann, he is survived by his sons. Timothy
(Carolyn) Eckert, and Steven (Eve) Eckert; daughters Dianne (Michael) Haner,
Melissa (Steven Sullivan) Eckert, Christine (Christopher) O'Donnell, and
Lori (Brian) Becker; son-in-law Danny Bartlett; sister-in-law Sandra Kubler;
a beloved grandpa and proud great grandpa; along with several nieces ands
nephews. Ballard was also mentor to Samuel Tolbert of Maryland, Larry Jessie
of Erin, Natalie Rifenburg Smith of Florida, and Stacia Kelsey of Golden
Glow. His family offers special thanks to the Bath VA HBPC Team for all of

WILLIAM NELSON
ECKLER was born May 29, 1928 in Rochester, NY the son of the late Earl
Lewis and Leona (Chapman) Eckler passed away unexpectedly at his home on
Friday, December 5, 2014 at the age of 86. He is survived by his loving
wife, Shirley (Harvey) Eckler, with whom he has enjoyed 63 wonderful years
of life and love with; beloved children: son and daughter-in-law, Richard
and Eileen Eckler of Ashfield, MA; daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Scott
Suits of Winter Park, FL; grandchildren: Stephanie (Jarod) Suits-Carroll of
Jacksonville, SC; Kimberly Suits of Winter Park, FL; Sean Eckler of
Ashfield, MA; Ian Eckler of Ashfield, MA; great grandson, Shane Carroll;
brother: Robert Eckler of Horseheads, NY; along with several nieces and
nephews. His sister, Joanne Eckler Lynch predeceased him. William was a
graduate of Southside High School class of 1948. He was a Veteran of the US
Army and proudly served his country. After 35 + years of dedicated service,
he retired from Hardinge Brothers as a tool maker. He was a faithful member
of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Elmira, was a member of the B.P.O.E.
lodge # 2297 Horseheads, NY and the American Legion Bentley Trumble Post #
442 Horseheads, NY. Bill lived for taking care of the things he loved; the
love of his life, Shirley, his family, his home and his cars. Family and

GREGORY P. ERMOLD age 76, of Elmira N.Y. passed
away unexpectedly on Monday, March 30, 2020. He was a graduate of Thomas
Edison High School in 1963. Greg was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran with the
Special Security Agency (ASA) from 1963-1967, with a tour in Vietnam. He
worked in data communications as a Senior Field Engineer for RACAL-MILGO,
Inc. supporting the New York Support Information Network (NYSPIN) for most
of his career. He was involved in the local chapter of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars. He was a devoted Catholic throughout his life and a member St.
Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads, NY. Greg was a supporter of the NRA,
and he was a member of the Chemung County Rod and Gun Club. He is survived
by his loving family, wife Lydia of 52 years and their 3 children. His
daughter, Ann (Michael) Dube of Durham, NC and their sons Matthew and Jack
Ryan; son, Gregory (Becky) Ermold of Potsdamn, NY and their sons Peter,
Michael, James, Joseph, Thomas and Gabriel; daughter, Mary Ermold; brothers,
Robert (Beverly) Ermold of Elmira Heights, NY and Walter (Jackie) Ermold of
Big Flats, NY; sister-in-law, Judith Simpson and his nieces and nephews. He
enjoyed hunting and fishing and he was an avid sportsman. Greg was described
as a devoted husband and father. He had a friendly smile, a keen sense of
humor and enjoyed his friendships. He will be greatly missed by his wife,
his family and his beautiful cocker spaniel named Reagan. The family

LUCILLE ‘SIS’ TOBEY age 85 lifelong resident of Southport. Passed away
Monday, October 20, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. Sis was
the daughter of the late Harry and Dorotha (Frisbie) Erway. She was
predeceased by her husband Jack W. Tobey in 1990. Surviving are her
children, Roxie Tillotson of Southport, NY, Dine (Richard) Allen of Penn
Yan, NY, Jack (Arlene) Tobey of Southport, Russell (Stephanie) Tobey of
Southport, NY; grandchildren, Jason (Megan), Jennifer, Dottie, Danyelle
(Larry), JR, and Brooke; along with great grandchildren, Tiffanie, Zachery,
Brandon, Anthony, Amelia, Nolan, Nathan, Adyn, Ryleigh; brother, Harry Erway
of Penn Yan, NY, Robert Erway of Elmira; sister, Maude (Rob) Hall of
Florida; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother, Chuck; and son
in law, Bruce Tillotson. Sis was a retired Sgt. of the Chemung County
Sherriff's Department, department of corrections, and a life member of the
Southport Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, and

Age 83 of Horseheads, NY. She was born July 23, 1929 in Big Flats, NY, daughter of the late Raymond L. and Maude (Fitzsimmons) Easterbrook and died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She was predeceased by her husband Richard C. Stone on December 10, 2010; son-in-law Charles Green; brother Robert Hooey and sister Helen Ebersole and is survived by her daughters Nancy Green of Horseheads and Carol A. Stone of Corning; granddaughter Tonya Norton of Corning; brother Ramen Easterbrook of Big Flats; sister Jean (Leon) Chameidef of Hartford, CT; sister-in-law Irene Hooey of Horseheads along with several nieces and nephews. Charlotte was a member of the Big Flats Presbyterian Church, Big Flats Historical Society, American Legion Auxiliary Post 154, and Order of the Eastern Star, Excelsior Chapter, Big Flats. She graduated from Northside High School in Corning Class of 1948 and retired from Westinghouse after 30 years of service. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Age 93 of Horseheads, NY. She was born June 16, 1919 in Beachton, PA, daughter of the late Frank F. and Ellen (Stremovihtg) Patterson and died Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She was predeceased by her husband Lewis in 1997 and is survived by her children Ellen Morrison of Armenia Mountain, PA, Pearl Jean Sternstein of Englewood, FL and Sir Lewis Edwards of Horseheads; 3 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Edwards was a member of Victory Life Church and the Catlin Historical Society. She retired from Remington Rand. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. EICHENLAUB Charles L.
Age 92, of Horseheads, NY died peacefully on Friday afternoon, November 20,
2009, at Bethany Manor. Charlie was born September 27, 1917 in Newark, NJ, a
son of the late Charles and Barbara Dupont Eichenlaub. He served his country
honorably with the U.S. Army Air Forces during WWII and retired with over 40
years of service with Westinghouse Corp. as a supervisor. Charlie is survived
by his loving wife of 67 years, Molly; children, Dennis (Kathy) Eichenlaub and
family; Ken Eichenlaub; grandchildren, John (Stephanie), Michael and Chad
Eichenlaub; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and close family
friend, Mary Ann Eichenlau. Sons, Alan and Jerry and several sisters and a
brother predecease him. The family will welcome relatives and friends to
Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St., Horseheads, NY on Wednesday,
November 25, 2009, from 12:30-1:30 p.m.. Charles' Memorial Service will follow.

DELBERT J. ELLIOTT, 80 of Tavares, FL, a former Elmira resident, died September 19, 2003. He was born in Canton, PA on December 19, 1922. He was a son of Darwin and I. Lena (Gee) Elliott. On May 22, 1948, in Elmira, he married the former Charlotte Huyler who survives. Mr. Elliott was manager of Ralston Purina Feed mill in Arcade. He retired from Motorola in Arcade in 1984. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II in the Pacific. In addition to his wife of 55 years, Mr. Elliott is survived by three sisters, Beatrice Patterson, Roseville, PA, Doris Depew, Horseheads, and G. Jean Calderone, Lawrenceville, NJ; a brother, Lewis (Virginia) Elliott, Horseheads; several nieces and nephews. ELLIOTT –GLADYS E. BELLOWS, age 75, of 1264 Charles Street, Elmira died, Sunday, September 30, 2001 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Gladys was born August 27, 1926 in Elmira, NY daughter of the Late John E. and Ruth (DeLong) Elliott. She was retired from Trayer Products were she was employed as a machine operator. Gladys was a member of Independent Baptist Church and loved to fish and boat with her husband Luther. Survivors include her husband Luther K. Bellows of Elmira, son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Judy Bellows of Milan, PA, daughter Marilyn Morrison of Tampa, FL brother and sister-in-law, Mort and Sally Elliott of Elmira, sister and brother-in-law, Gail and Manley Mayes of Graham, WA, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. ELLIOTT Ronald L. Age 66, of Elmira, NY. He was born February 14, 1939 in Corning, NY, son of the late Earl and Erma (Barber) Elliott and died Saturday, July 23, 2005, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He is survived by his adopted son, Guy F. Newkirk, Jr. of San Diego, CA; son, Ronald L. Elliott of Elmira; brothers, Earl of TX, and Carl of Elmira; sisters, Shirley Ellison of Painted Post, Donna Brown of VA, Phyllis Elliott of Campbell, NY, and Audrey Manning of Corning; along with several nieces and nephews. Ron was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was employed at Miller's Tree Farm in Odessa. There will be no calling hours. ELMQUIST Roy H.
Age 73, of Elmira Heights, NY. He was born April 18, 1935 in Elmira, son of the
late John and Ellen (Scoglund) Elmquist, and died Thursday, October 2, 2008, at
home after an extended illness. He was predeceased by his wife, JoAnn Elmquist
on Sept. 26, 2003 and is survived by 21 nieces and nephews, many great-nieces
and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews. Roy retired from Kennedy Valve;
was a veteran of WWII and a life member V.F.W. Post 6083, C.W.V. Post 1176, and
the American Legion Post 154, all in Elmira Heights. Family and friends are
invited to attend his Graveside Service, with Military Honors on Monday,
October 6th at 10 a.m. in Woodlawn National Cemetery, 1825 Davis Street,
Elmira. Rev. Thomas O'Brien will officiate. In lieu of flowers, those wishing

ELSTON Shawn M.
Age 51, of Elmira, NY, died unexpectedly on November 24, 2009 in Carlisle. PA.
Shawn was born in Elmira, son of the late Stephen and Thelma (Woodard) Elston.
Shawn served our country in the United States Army. He was a life long trucker.
Shawn loved his family very much. He will be dearly missed by those that knew
him. Survivors include his sisters, Stephanie Singerhoff and Kandis (James)
Hetherton; brother, Allen Pettitt; many nieces and nephews. There will be a
private service held for Shawn. Interment will take place in Woodlawn National
Cemetery with full military honors, at the convenience of the family.

ENGLE -SUSAN M. GREEN age 89 of Elmira passed
away on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She
was born on July 21, 1951 in Elmira, NY to the late Harry and Fannie Engle.
Susan was predeceased by her brother, Harry and sister, Sylvia. She is
survived by her husband of 46 years, Robert Green Sr.; sons, Rodney (Karen
Matt) Green and Robert (Ruth) Green Jr.; granddaughters, Tiffany and Alexis
Green; brothers, David (Regina) Engle and Lewis (Rita) Engle; sister,
Marilynn (Doug) Viele; along with several nieces and nephews. Susan was a
long-time member of The Love Church. Family and friends are invited to call
on Wednesday. October 14th from 11 am to 1 pm at the James D. Barrett
Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place there at 1 pm. Interment will

ENNIS Richard Lee "Dick"
Age 63 of Elmira, NY died
on Tuesday May 25, 2010. Dick was born November 24, 1946 in Elmira, New York
the son of the late Leon Charles and Mary Elizabeth Wheeler Ennis. He was a
graduate of Elmira Free Academy High School. Dick was a Disabled Vietnam Veteran
serving his country with The U.S. Marine Corps. He loved electronics, reading,
music, and movies. Dick had worked at Radio Shack in Elmira. Dick is survived
by his daughters, Jennifer Ennis Weber, Jacqueline Ennis, and Shannon Ennis all
of Buffalo, NY; brother: Terry Ennis of Owego, NY; sister and brother-in-law,
Kathleen M. and John P. Mustico of Horsheads, NY; several grandchildren, aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Relatives and friends are
invited to attend Dick's Funeral Services on Tuesday June 8, 2010 at 10 AM at
Woodlawn National Cemetery 1825 Davis Street Elmira, NY. Full Military Honors
will be accorded Mr. Ennis followed by interment in Woodlawn National Cemetery.

ERLE Virginia Grace, Of Elmira, NY, Was born February 6, 1940 in Metuchen, NJ, the daughter of the late Luther Lewis and Virginia Grace (Markano) Erle. Virginia, of Oneida Road, passed peacefully on Friday, June 20, 2008, at the age of 68 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center Skilled Nursing Facility. On December 16, 1967, Virginia married Thomas James Erle at St. Peter & Paul's Church in Elmira, NY. The Reverend David N. Mattie officiated at the Wedding Ceremony. Prior to his passing on April 8, 2006, they celebrated 39 years of life and love together. Virginia is survived by her brothers, Lewis L. (Shirley) Erle of Fallbrook, CA, Robert R. Erle (Dorothy, deceased) of Buena Vista, CO, James R. (Paula) Erle of Calpine, CA; sister, Mildred M. Erle of New York City, NY; sister-in-law, Loretta (Erle) (Harold) Gunderman of Elmira, NY; along with several nieces, nephews; and special friends, Bob and Donna McConnell, David, Debbie and Autumn Rose Lester, Margie and Tom Rodgers, Julie Lynch, Tina Simons and Carolyn Martin. Virginia served 4 years in the United States Marine Corp. She was the past president of the Twin Tier Genealogical Society and retired from the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Robert Oscar ERNEST, 65, Pine City, NY died unexpectedly Monday, February 16, 1998 at home. Robert worked for Schweizer Aircraft Corp. as a supervisor and machinist for many years. He was co-owner with his wife of Lorraine’s Fabrics in Southport. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Lorraine; daughter, Pamela (Richard) Campbell of Apex, NC; son, Michael (Theresa) Ernest of Milford, DE; three grandchildren; sisters, Betty Brown of Gillett, PA, Flora Newton of Pine City; brothers, Ken Ernest of Elmira, NY. CHARLES D. "Dick" EVANS age 82, of Elmira, NY
passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 with his family
at his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Florence Evans;
his loving wife of 61 years, Nancy K. (Kreisler) Evans. He is survived by
his beloved children: James D. (Tracey) Evans and David K. (Stacey) Evans;
grandchildren: Cameron, Jake, Madison and Zachary; great granddaughter:
Piper; brothers: Robert (Carol) Evans and Ward (Donna) Evans; along with
several nieces, nephews and friends. Together with the love of his life,
Nancy and Dick spent a lot of their free time giving back to the community.
They volunteered at the Corning Museum of Glass, AARP, Elmira Food Bank and
as an election inspector during many elections. They were the primary
organizers for the class reunions every five years for the Class of 1955 at
Elmira Free Academy. Both Nancy and Dick worked at Eldridge Park. Nancy
worked the putt putt course and Dick was the conductor of the Train. Dick
also helped build the boat house for "Jasper" and the scaled down model of
the Mark Twain Study for the putt putt course. Dick retired from Chapel
Lumber after 38 years of dedicated service as a counter salesman. He was a
member of the F & AM Masonic Lodge, was a ham radio operator, an avid
photographer, enjoyed wood working and sculpted many things from copper.
Dick was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend
who will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Dick's
name may be directed to the Local Food Bank. Graveside services will take
place on Monday, June 8, 2020 in the Woodlawn Cemetery Eastview section at

GORDON (Ray) EVANS, 84, of Elmira Heights,
passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 31, 2020 surrounded by his loving
family. Born on June 14, 1936 in Elmira, he was the son of the late Gordon
and Lorraine (Kimball) Evans. After serving his country in the US Air Force
from 1954 to 1957, he was Honorably Discharged on July 1, 1957. On April 16,
1960 he married the love of his life Shirley Ann Hilliker and they shared 60
years of life together. Ray was a loving brother, husband, father,
grandfather and great grandfather who loved his family dearly. Ray loved his
country music and rummage sales on the weekends. He also took great joy in
caring for his grand dogs Odie, Charlie and Bella, and always enjoyed
gathering with friends and family. His passion for restoring old clocks and
radios was a favorite pastime of his. He cherished his friendship with his
best friend, Garth Rumsmoke, over the years and the stories they shared. In
addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved son-in-law, James
M. Tucker. Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley A. Evans of Elmira
Heights; children, Brenda Tucker of Elmira Heights, Debbie ( Mike) Watson of
Concord, NC, Ray (Shawna) Evans of Concord, NC; Kathy Glyvin of Waukesha,

EVANS Isaiah, Jr. "Junie"
Age 68, was born February 28, 1940 in Charleston, NC. He lived in Elmira from
1950 with his mother, Rosena Heyward and his brothers, Samuel, Julius and Ira
Heyward, attending Thomas K. Beecher School and Elmira Free Academy, graduating
in 1959. He enlisted in the Marines after graduation and remained in active
duty until 1980. He was employed as a club manager at Chenango Valley State
Park golf course and at various facilities in the Binghamton, Liverpool, Elmira
areas until 1999. He was predeceased by his mother, Rosena Heyward; father,
Isaac Evans, Sr.; and brothers, Julius and Samuel Heyward. He is survived by
his former wife, Alva Woglfolk; daughter, Loretta Ann Swan (Jeffrey); son,
Kameron Evans, Sr. (Lisa); three grandchildren, Deirdre Lynn Bryant, Tarence
Anthony Bryant and Kameron Evans, Jr.; brother, Ira (Julia) Heyward;
sister-in-law, Frances Heyward; "sister", Shirley Montgomery;
numerous nieces and nephews; friends, Patricia Delige, George Wallace, Eddie

EVANS Richard Lyall - Founder of Elmira Heat Treating, Inc and Elmira Grinding Works Age 82, of Ft. Myers, FL, formerly of Elmira, NY, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006. Born in Bergen, NY, to parents, Lyall and Dorothy (Glitch) Evans. His family moved to Syracuse, NY in 1934. He graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy in 1942, and attended college in Ft. Hayes, Kansas. He was predeceased by his parents, Lyall and Dorothy; sisters, Margaret Westman and Martha Case of Syracuse. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty (Field) Evans of Ft. Myers, FL; daughter, Judith (Charles) Brinkerhoff of Pine City, NY; grandsons, Jeffrey Brinkerhoff, wife, Wendy and children, Michelle, Tyler, Morgan of Auburn, NY, Jason Brinkerhoff and Kathy Taylor of Pine City, NY; and sister, Josephine Latimer of Syracuse, NY; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and many close friends. Richard entered the United States Army in December 1942, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was taken POW. He escaped with some important documents and received the Bronze Star. He was the initial founder of Elmira Heat Treating, Inc., Elmira Grinding Works, Elmira, NY, Evans Heat Treating in Syracuse, NY. He retired as CEO in 1982 from Elmira Heat Treating, Inc. Former President and lifetime member of Fur, Fin, and Feathers, Inc., former member of Corning Country Club, Elmira City Club, Sarasota Gun Club, Past Chairman of America Society of Metals, Member EAA flying society and Pinelakes Country Club Ft. Myers, FL. Richard enjoyed skeet and trap shooting, golfing, boating, fishing, reading and flying his own plane. He loved flying his float plane with his buddies to many Canadian fishing trips. Richard built his own Acro Sport 2 bi-plane which he was very proud of. Richard was especially proud of his grandsons with whom he spent many happy times. A memorial service will be held at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY on Saturday, April 1, 2006, at 12 noon. Interment will be in Woodlawn National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Rudy in 1992; sisters, Jane Bishop in 1991, and Phyllis Smith in 2003;

FAIRBROTHER Marion Fuller
Formerly of Elmira: Marion Fuller died on October 18, 2012 at the age of 88 after a long bout with a serious illness. She was a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of New York State. A graduate of the Arnot School of Nursing, she worked in the health field all of her life before her retirement - first as a registered nurse specializing in the intensive care unit at Arnot Ogden Memorial Hospital in Elmira, New York, and later, as a visiting nurse helping the infirm and elderly patients in their place of residence and finally, as an accredited nursing instructor at the Arnot Ogden School of Nursing in Elmira, New York. Her husband, Keith Roland Fuller, to whom she was married to for 63 years, preceded her in death along with her mother Helen Myrtle Batdorf Fairbrother, and her father Thomas Paul Fairbrother. She is survived by her sons, Michael Robert Fuller of Baton Rouge and Keith Edward Fuller of San Diego; brothers, John Hudson Fairbrother of Elmira and Thomas Paul Fairbrother of Spencerport; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. FANNING Graydon E. "Gray"
Age 79, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Sunday, October 7, 2007, at the Samaritan
House after a valiant effort against his cancer. Gray was born on January 23,
1928 in Troy, PA, a son of Edmund and Margaret (Joralemon) Fanning. He was the
husband of Edith (Mershimer) Fanning. Gray leaves his wife of fifty-one years,
Edith; and five children, David (Carol) Fanning of Fort Collins, CO, Rhonda
Iacuzzo of Fort Collins, CO, James (June) Fanning of Painted Post, NY, Robert
Fanning of Tampa, FL, and Susan (Robert) Cleveland of Wellsboro, PA; ten
grandchildren, Christopher, Erin, Andrew, Brian, Jonathon, Eric, Alexis,
Garrett, Dylan, and Crystal; a great-granddaughter, Maredith; a sister, Barbara
(Charles) Baldwin of Troy, PA. Gray was preceded in death by a brother, William
Fanning. Gray was a retired Lieutenant Commander in the Medical Service Corps
of the United States Navy, having served twelve years as a hospital corpsman
and fifteen years as an MSC officer in hospital administration. Gray was an
avid golfer and belonged to the Tyoga Country Club. He was a member of the
First Presbyterian Church in Wellsboro, PA and volunteered with Tioga Co. Meals
on Wheels. He came to Wellsboro in January 1980 to be the Executive Director of
the Green Home and retired from that position in 1991 but remained in
Wellsboro, a town he visited with his grandfather in 1933 and fell in love

–VIVIEN M. GREEN, age 89 of Horseheads, NY passed away in Lewes, Delaware on
Monday July 7, 2014. Vivien was born August 14, 1924 in Lancaster, PA the
daughter of the late Gilbert B. and Margaret E. Fritz Feehrer. She was a
Veteran of World War II serving her country with The U. S. NAVY. She married
her husband, Robert C. Green, on May 20, 1946 and he pre-deceased her on
August 10, 1993. Vivien was also preceded in death by her sister Joan A.
Haus. Throughout her marriage, Vivien was an active volunteer in the
Republican Party of Chemung County. An avid fitness enthusiast, she found a
variety of ways to stay fit over the years, including being a member of the
local bowling team where she was the recipient of numerous trophies. In her
later years, Vivien loved spending time with her family, friends,
caregivers, and especially Chardonnay, her beloved four legged Bichon Frise
companion. Mrs. Green is survived by: her son and daughter-in-law Robert B.
Green & Patti Piemontese (Lewes, Delaware); daughter Terry Lynn Johnson
(Brevard, North Carolina); granddaughter: Erin Elizabeth Green; several

GORDON EUGENE ‘FLASH’ FENTON, 55, of Sunset Park, Waverly, N.Y., died Friday, Sept., 16, 2005, at his home following an extended illness. Born March 28, 1950, in Sayre, he was the son of Johnathan L. Fenton Sr. and the late Esther M. Johnson Fenton. Gordon was a graduate of Athens High School, Class of 1968 and was also a graduate of Penn State University. Gordon served in the U.S. Army as a medical corpsman in the 18th Medical Detachment during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Waverly, N.Y. Gordon enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. Gordon was of Pennsylvania Native American heritage and enjoyed collecting Native American artifacts. Surviving are his father, Johnathan Fenton Sr. of Athens; his sisters Cathy Barry and her husband, Robert Barry, of Waverly, N.Y. Shirley Vanderpool and her husband, Neil Vanderpool, of Ohio, Charlene Brown and her husband, Rich Brown, of Athens, and Anna Forman of Stroudsburg, Pa.; his brothers Albert Fenton and his wife, Sheila Fenton, of Rome, Wayne Fenton and his wife, Cathy Fenton of Harrisburg, Pa., and Paul Fenton of Corning, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. FERKO age 65, of Horseheads, NY,
went home to be with the Lord at his home peacefully with his daughters on
May 25, 2014. He was born on February 22, 1949 in Elmira, NY. He was
predeceased by his loving parents, John and Ruth (Knapp) Ferko and
granddaughter, Alexis in 2002. Bill is survived by his daughters, Angela
(Robert) Court and Suzanne Ferko (Olson); grandchildren, Rebecca, Hailey,
Robert Jr., Jacob, Sarah and Riley; sister, Mary (Don) Wilson and niece and
nephew, Vickie and Greg and their children and feline buddy, "Sammy". Bill
was a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War and was an avid
volunteer in the community. He enjoyed riding his bike, crossword puzzles,

FIELD Betty Jane Evans
Fort Myers, FL and Horseheads: Betty Jane Evans, of Fort Myers, FL and Horseheads, NY, died peacefully Saturday, October 19, 2013. Betty was born in Syracuse, NY to William and Pearl (McPherson) Field. She moved to Elmira, NY in 1963, where her husband Richard founded Elmira Heat Treating. She is survived by her daughter, Judith (Bud) Brinkerhoff; and 2 grandsons, Jason (Ashley Novidor) Brinkerhoff of Pine City, NY, Jeff (Wendy) Brinkerhoff of Auburn, NY; great-grandchildren, Michelle, Tyler, Morgan, Harper and Jacob; great-great-grandson, James; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard in 2006; sister, Dorothy (Goodrich) (Carl) Pommer; brother, Howard (Helen) Field. She was an avid golfer and bowler in Elmira and in the Pine Lakes Community in North Fort Myers where she had lived full-time since 1987. She graduated from Beau Arts Beauty Culture School in Syracuse as a beautician and cosmetologist. She loved spending time with family and also loved animals, especially her dog friends, Buddy, Molly and Lucky. Her wishes were no calling hours. Her ashes will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Woodlawn National Cemetery with a private family service. A luncheon to celebrate her life will be held at Holiday Inn Riverside, Elmira, NY, at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013. All friends and family are welcome to attend. FIELD Gary David Field
age 63, a longtime resident of Pine City, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at his home. Gary was born in Elmira, January 16, 1950, the middle son of the late Gerald DeRuyter and Frances (Dunn) Field. He proudly and bravely served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor. Gary graduated from Southside High School in 1968 and subsequently earned a degree in Environmental Science from Elmira College. Formerly a Director of Camp Seneca and Executive Director of the Sullivan Trail Council BSA, Gary retired as a Lieutenant from the NYSDOCS, after working at both the Elmira and Southport facilities. Additionally, after 30 years of dedicated service, Gary retired from the Army Reserves as a SFC. He will be remembered for his open-heartedness and sense of humor, his charisma and humility, his silent leadership, his love of friends and family, and his fondness for all things outdoors, including fishing, golfing and camping. Surviving Gary is his wife, Deborah Vosburgh Field. Together, they would have shared 39 years of marriage on June 8. He leaves behind six children, CPT Garrett DeRuyter (Jada) Field of Kindsbach, Germany; Brian (Stacey) Field of Clemmons, NC; Shawn (Melissa) Field of Elmira; Tracy (Alex) Ludwig of Sahuarita, AZ; Kelly Field (H.R. Domineske) of Elmira; and David Field of Elmira; nine grandchildren: Alexis, Andrew, Lynell, Abbigail, Aimee, Jonah, Greyson DeRuyter, Sophie, Aubree, and one on the way; brother, Gregory DeRuyter Field of Elmira; along with several nieces and one nephew. In addition to his parents, Gary is predeceased by his brother, Gavin Field. A celebration of Gary's life will be held privately and entrusted to Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. NY, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on
Saturday, February 1, 2020. Greg was born in Elmira, NY to the late Gerald
DeRuyter Field and Frances (Dunn) Field. In addition to his parents, Greg
was preceded in death by his brothers Gary D. Field and Gavin L. Field. He
is survived by his life partner, April Semel; friend and former wife, Sara
Field; daughters: Julaine E. Field, Nicole R. Barton (Eric) and Bethany R.
Lang (Rob). He has three amazing grandchildren, Bailey Field, Fredric Lang,
and June Lang. He has many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Greg
graduated from Southside High School in 1964 and played minor league
baseball (pitcher) for a brief time. He worked in the corrugated/container
industry for fifty+ years. One of his claims to fame was leading a team in
designing the 24ft Arc of the Corrugated pirate ship in the Seneca Lake
Cardboard Boat Regatta. He finished his career with Weyerhaeuser in 2006. He
loved hunting, fishing, competitive shooting, golfing, being outdoors, and
spending time with his family. Family and friends are invited to call at the

–ROSALIE F. LOVELL age 69, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016, with her
family by her side, at Corning Hospital. Rosalie was born in Elmira a
daughter of the late Grace (Frosolone) and Frank V. Fiori. She is also
predeceased by her granddaughter Patricia "Patty" May Twigg. Rosalie is
survived by her husband George W. Lovell, with whom she would have
celebrated 46 years of marriage with on September 12th; daughters, and their
families, Kathleen G. and Matthew Bowes of Pine City, and their children,
Cassidy Lauren, Mara Grace and Nicholas Matthew Bowes; Ellen R. and David
Twigg of West Long Branch, NJ and their son Bryce Davis Twigg; siblings, and
their spouses, Mary Ann Voorhees of Liverpool NY, Francis V. and Pam Fiori
of South Windsor CT, Joseph V. Fiori of Elmira, Anthony J. "Terry" and
Joanne Fiori of Pittsford NY; aunt and uncle Mary Theresa and Robert
Vertoske of Elmira; along with several nieces and nephews. Rose was a
graduate of Notre Dame High School. While raising her two daughters, she
went back to school at Elmira College where she earned both her Bachelor and
Master Degrees in Education. Rose taught for 20 years at Diven Elementary
School in Elmira. After her retirement she joined a group of people who were
interested in learning the Italian language. This led her to becoming fluent
in the language enabling her to speak, read and write in Italian. Rose was
then able to contact her relatives in Macchia Valfortore, Italy by phone,
skype and letters, to share stories of their family history. In her spare
time she was an avid reader and writer. Rose's greatest joy was the time she

World War II Veteran Was born March 19, 1921 in LeRoy, NY, the son of the late Isadore and Anna (Dreher) Fiorito, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital Elmira, NY, at the age of 85. Leonard married Sarah Record, July 16, 1949 at St. Patrick's Church in Elmira. They have enjoyed 57 wonderful years of love and life together. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Feary of Batavia, NY, Margaret Bradley of Livonia, NY; along with seven nieces and three nephews. His sister, Catherine Amidon, predeceased him. Leonard retired from the General Electric Company as a mechanical engineer. He was a World War II Veteran, proudly serving his country from 1943 - 1945 in the 8th Air Force Division as a Fighter Pilot. At his request there will be no prior calling hours. A Graveside Ceremony with Military Honors will be held in the Woodlawn National Cemetery at a time and date to be announced in the spring. on March 11, 1922 in Corning, NY, daughter of the late Earl and Louise
(Kneale) Fisher. Helene retired from Howell's Packaging in Elmira after many
years of service. She loved crocheting and quilting. Helene is survived by
her daughter, Gwen (Earl) Lesoine of Hammondsport, NY; sons, Daniel, Robert
(Kathi), Russell "Mike" (Eileen) and Terry (Darlene) Pritchard all of
Elmira; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 3
great-great-grandchildren; special sister-in-law, Florence; special
neighbors, Dick and Bruce. Helene was predeceased by her husband, Frederick,

–NEAL KUNKLE (don't call me Cornelia) Kunkle, age 66 passed peacefully at
her residence on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Born September 5, 1948 in
Elmira, NY where she was raised. She was the daughter of John and Julia
Collins Fitzpatrick. She was married to Charlie Kunkle for 46 years who
survives at home. Along with her husband, she is survived by two sons, Brett
Kunkle and his wife, Stephanie, of Wake Forest, NC, and Steven Kunkle, of
Gillett; a brother, Tony Fitzpatrick and his wife, Jackie, of Elmira, NY;
five grandchildren, whom she loved immensely, Terrance, Mitchell, Eammon and
Abby Kunkle of Elmira Heights, NY and Lucas Kunkle of Wake Forest, NC and a
niece Kate Fitzpatrick of Boston, MA. Neal was a 1966 graduate of Notre Dame
High School and earned a degree in accounting from Elmira Business Institute
graduating in 1970, Elmira, NY. During the raising of her two children, Neal
was heavily involved in the Elmira Heights School community through
fundraising efforts and countless activities. She also found great joy in
classic television such as I Love Lucy, Carol Burnett and British sitcoms. A
Celebration of Life will be 1-5 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Ancient
Order of Hibernians, 701 Kinyon Street, Elmira, NY 14904. Private burial

Age 84, of Fargo, ND, died on Saturday, August 2, 2009 at the Elim Rehab and
Care Center. Lois was born on April 28, 1925 to Charles and Hazel Mae (Fitch)
Foehner in Elmira, NY. She graduated from Southport High School and
attended/graduated from the Park Ave. Hospital Nursing Program in Rochester,
NY. Lois' nursing career scanned four decades of service in New York, Okinawa,
Texas, Washington, Florida, and Nevada. Her nursing skills brought great
comfort and care to patients with medical, surgical, and psychiatric needs.
Lois was united in marriage to James T. Street on August 31, 1946 in Elmira,
N.Y. Together they raised four children while living as an U.S. Air Force
family in many states as well as in the Far East. Lois is survived by her son
Steven of Fargo, ND; daughter Lynn Michelle and son-in-law Lynn Travis of
Bentonville, AR; son James, Charlottesville, VA; daughter Cathe, Ft.
Lauderdale, FL; and grandchildren David Street, Richmond, VA; Michael
McCullough, Fayetteville, AR; and Ty Wilson, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Lois's sister
Betty (Foehner) Moak lives in Annapolis, MD. Lois was preceded in death by her
parents, her husband, and three of her siblings: Mildred, Robert, and James. A

Father Donovan conducted the committal service in Woodlawn National Cemetery. The Elmira Reformatory firing squad and bugler conducted the military honors at the grave. ORLEY A. FORD
age 90, a longtime resident of the Fassett, PA community, went home to be
with his Lord and Savior Sunday, September 27, 2015 following declining
health. Born on January 13, 1925 in Salem, West Virginia, Orley was the son
of the late Ernest and Anna Knight Ford. In service to his country, Orley
served during WWII in the U.S. Coast Guard. After the war, he married the
love of his life, Doris Beechey, and she predeceased him on November 6,
2011. Orley retired from Royal Insurance as a claims manager after 40 years
of dedicated service. A born again Christian, Orley worshiped at the Fassett
Baptist Church where he had been very active. He served two terms as past
Exalted Ruler of the Elmira Elks; enjoyed golf, hunting, and fishing; and in
the 1960's was a huge fan of the Elmira Pioneers, when they were a minor
league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Surviving is his loving family:
children, Kathleen "Kate" McKenzie, Elmira; Dennis "Denny" (Tammy Watson)
Ford, Fassett, PA; daughter-in-law, Maryellen Ford, Demopolis, AL;

She married Ted Mansell on February 29, 1976, who preceded her in death. Along with 10 great-grandchildren and various nieces and nephews, she also had an adopted son, Don, who preceded her in death. In her early years, Ruth attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church, State College, and was one of the founders of the Friendship Class there in 1946. During her life in New York she was an active member of the Pine Valley United Methodist Church, Pine Valley, NY and belonged to the United Methodist Women. She also was involved in the Eastern Star Alert Chapter #948 in Elmira Heights. She loved doing crafts, knitting, sun bathing, gardening, camping, golfing, and playing cards with the love of her life, Ted. She came back to State College following Ted's death in 2006 and was a resident of Wynwood House, Centre Hall, and then Centre Crest. Although Ruth's memory was fading, she was still the happy person she had always been. Her giggle raised the spirits of all. The family thanks all the wonderful people who helped her so lovingly over the past years. Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. FREEMAN SR. age 70 of Erin, NY passed away on Tuesday June 24, 2014.
Bill was born July 26, 1943 in Elmira, NY the son of the late William Edgar
Freeman and Myrtle Mayo Freeman. He was a Disabled Vietnam War Veteran
serving his country with The U.S. Army and The U.S. Navy. Bill was a member
and Past Commander in 1985 of The Bentley-Trumble American Legion Post #442.
He also served as Chemung County Commander from 1986-1987. Bill married his
wife, Alberta M. Young Freeman on March 17, 1967 and they recently
celebrated their 47th Wedding Anniversary on March 17, 2014. Bill was a Bus
Driver for The Horseheads Central School for nearly 30 years. He was also
pre-deceased by his brother Robert and by his sister Virginia. Bill loved
his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. Bill is
survived by his loving and devoted wife Alberta M. Young Freeman; daughter:

On May 8, 1942 in Elmira Heights, NY, Mae married Gerald Edwin Starner, with whom she shared over 60 wonderful years. She will always be loved by her children, Greg and wife Deborah, Betsy, Jeff, and Kim and wife Olga. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren Todd and family, Darcy, Owen and Meah; Amy and husband Ray McLaughlin and daughters, Taylor and Leah; William and wife Brooke; Jocelyn; and MaKenzie will miss her. A homemaker, Jean was a loving and caring wife and mother to her family. She was a member of first Baptist Church in Elmira. Age 81 of Horseheads, NY formerly of Big Flats, NY died on Thursday May 31,
2007 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY. Fuzzy was born on June 21, 1925 in
Elmira, NY the son of the late Walter and Ursula Walch Frost. Mr. Frost was a
Veteran of WWII serving his country with the U.S. Army, 13th Armored Division.
He was a retired assistant manager with the Elmira-Corning Regional Airport in
Big Flats, NY. He was a member of the Big Flats United Methodist Church, the
Big Flats Fire Dept., America Legion Post #154 in Elmira Heights, NY and The
Horseheads Elks Lodge #2297. Fuzzy and his wife, Pauline E. Gould Frost owned
and operated Gould's Greenhouse in Big Flats, NY for many years. He was
pre-deceased by his loving wife Pauline E. Gould Frost on January 8, 1994, his
daughter Jean F. Bayne on August 21, 1997 and his brother Walter Frost. Mr.

He graduated from Pennsylvania Military College in 1943 and was a veteran of
World War II, having served with the 860th Engineers Battalion in the southwest
Pacific. He was a South Creek Fire Department social member and retired
civil engineer for Valley City Gas in Sayre. He is survived by his wife of 50
years, Gertrude; sons, Allen C. (Barbara) of Elmira, NY, James C. (Linda) of
Hamburg, NY, Richard B. (Margaret) of Gillett, PA, Elmira E. (Brenda) of
Denton, TX; nine grandchildren; sister, Virginia (Matt) Haist of Ivyland, PA; a

Age 86 of Elmira, died Friday morning, August 22, 2008 at the Arnot Ogden
Medical Center with his family by his side. Frank was born March 24, 1922, the
son of the late Stephen and Stella Mikolajcak Fundurulic. He served his country
with the US Army Air Corp during WWII and retired from Conrail after 35 years

Chapman of Rome, PA and Steve Doane of Providence, RI; grandson, Clifford Hall
with his son Matthew of Irving, TX; granddaughter, Amanda (Gippy) Hall and her
sons Austyn, Blake, Collin and Anthony all of Elmira Heights, NY; sisters,
Theresa Douglass of Elmira, NY, Loretta (Donald) Savey of Elmira, NY; brother:
Stephen Fundurulic of Beaver Dams, NY; and several grandchildren, great
grandchildren, step grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will
receive relatives and friends at Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St.
at Rt. 13, Horseheads, NY on Tuesday August 26, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. Interment
will be held at Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, NY at the convenience of
the family. In lieu of flowers those wishing to remember Frank may do so

FURNEY Joseph B. Sr.
Age 55, of Elmira Heights, NY, died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Joseph was born on May 27, 1956 in Binghamton, NY, son of the late Daniel and Arlene (Williams) Furney. Joseph served our country in the US Coast Guard during the Vietnam War and was a truck driver for most of his working life. Joseph is survived by his longtime companion, Annette; sons, Joseph Jr. and Grady Furney; daughters, Trina and Melissa Swido; 8 grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service on Wednesday, January 25, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home.
