STALIS Joseph C.
Age 92 of Elmira, died Friday, November 20, 2009. He is survived by his
daughter Christina Stalis; grandson Joseph R. Stalis; several nieces, nephews
and cousins. Pre-deceased by his loving wife Emily; son Richard; granddaughter
Emily Marie; his parents; two brothers and one sister. Joe was a US Army WWII

STAMP Richard "Dick"
Age 90, of Elmira, NY, died
on Thursday, August 5, 2010, in Rochester, NY. Richard was predeceased by his
loving wife of 58 years, Sophie (Rozengota) Stamp. Survived by daughter,
Maryanna (Peter) Bartell; granddaughter, Nicole (Mark) Pierson; grandson, Aaron
(Jennifer) Bartell; brother-in-law, Stanley Rzengota; as well as many nieces,
nephews and friends. He served in the United States Army and was a Veteran of
WWII, serving in the Battle of the Bulge and was a P.O.W. Richard retired from
the Elmira Correctional Facility, "The Hill", as well as from the
Army Reserve with 20 years of service. He was the Parishioner of Holy Redeemer
Church and a member of the Mark Twain Golf Club. Richard worked at Eldridge
Park for over 20 years. The family will receive friends at Olthof Funeral Home,
Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira/Southport, NY on Tuesday, August 10,
2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with funeral service there at 1:00 p.m.,
Deacon George Welch officiating, followed by graveside service at St. Peter and

STANTON age 50, of Rochester, NY
and formerly of Elmira, NY, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. James
was predeceased by his sister, Joann Stanton. James is survived by his
loving parents, Nancy and James A. Stanton; siblings, Michael (Judy)
Stanton, Julie Stanton, Rita (Rick) Piendel, Daniel Stanton and Robert
Stanton; nieces and nephews, Stacey, Richard Jr., Brian, Owen, Kristen, and
Rebecca Stanton; Aunt, Mary (Scott) Rhode; special friend, Mark Powell.
James had a lot of caring friends and will be dearly missed by many. He
loved to cook and worked as a manager at Uno's for many years. Family and

age 54, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015 at Robert
Packer Hospital. She was born on July 14, 1961 in Elmira, NY. Joann is
survived by her parents, James and Nancy Stanton of Elmira; siblings,
Michael (Judy) Stanton of Elmira, Julie Stanton of Elmira, Rita (Richard)
Piendel of PA, Daniel Stanton of Elmira, Robert Stanton of Buffalo and James
Stanton of Rochester; nieces and nephews, Brian, Kristen, Owen, Rebecca
Stanton, Stacey Rhoads and Richard Piendel Jr. and special aunt, Mary
(Scott) Rhode of Lowman. Joann was a graduate of Southside High School and

Age 77, of North Hoffman Rd., Elmira, NY, died July 8th, 2009 at the Arnot
Ogden Medical Center. Marlene was the daughter of the late Roy M. and Marcella
V. Smith Stauffer. She was born the 28th day of March 1932 in Elmira. Surviving
her is her husband of 56 years, Stanley C. Rzengota of Elmira; her children, Susan
L. Olthof of Elmira, Reverend Bruce D. (Cheryl) Rzengota of Norwalk, OH,
Colleen M. (Dr. Vincent) LaDelia; grandchildren, Timothy, Chris, Becca,
Gregory, Jamie, Stephan, Adrian, Julian, and Thomas. She is predeceased by her
grandson, Scott Olthof. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof

Age 86, of Elmira, NY, died May 12th, 2008 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
Michael was the son of the late Anthony and Julia Stetz Stavisky. He was born
in Lopez, PA, November 26th, 1921. Michael is survived by his children, Brenda
Saxton of Horseheads, NY, Steven Walp of Horseheads, NY, Priscilla (Ron)
Bradley of Sayre, PA, Lorrie (Joe) Raniewicz of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren,
Heather, Jeffrey (Heather), Shawn (Sarah), Kyle, Jamie, Jennifer (Jason),
Andrew; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Micholychak of Binghamton, NY,
Eva Turner of Tonawanda, NY; several nieces and nephews as well as many loving

Kille; and very special friends, Ralph and Geri Setzer. Michael was a proud
Army veteran of World War II, Communicate of St. Casimir Church, member of the
White Eagles Club, Polish National Alliance, Elmira Heights American Legion
Post #154. Michael will always be known for his patience, kindness and being a
loving person who was giving in all respects. He enjoyed gardening, bingo at
church, dancing, scratch-off tickets, and taking day trips around the area. In
addition to working at the Remington Rand for 25 years, he also worked in the
maintenance department of the Marine Midland Bank for 25 years. In lieu of

Pittsford, NY - died suddenly surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March
1, 2009 at age 44. She is survived by her adoring husband, Scott Allen;
daughter, Megan, the light of her life; parents, William R. & Margaret K.
Steed; brothers and sisters, Frank (Karen) Steed, Sue's twin sister Amy Steed,
Molly (Mark) Schenkel, Timothy (Michelle) Steed, and Christopher (Meghan)
Steed. Sue loved and cherished her nieces and nephews and will always be their
"Aunt Sue Sue", Alexandra, Ryan, Nicholas & Caitlin Steed, Anna

Sue graduated from Notre Dame High School, Elmira, NY and D'Youville College,
Buffalo, NY as an RN. Sue worked for University Sports Medicine in Rochester,
NY for many years. Special in every way, Sue's bright smile lit up the room and
her compassion was felt by all. She is our inspiration. Sue's Memorial
Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Rhinecliff &
Imperial Dr., Rochester, NY, on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Sue's
home town Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Franklin
St., Elmira, NY on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow in

STEFANSKI - POUNDS, Mary T. (Stefanski)
Of Elmira, died peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the Chemung County
Nursing Facility. Mary was a 65 year resident of Elmira and was born March 22,
1915 in Salamanca, NY, one of eleven children of a Polish immigrant family.
Upon high school graduation in 1932 she entered training to be a nurse in
Buffalo and had a career of over 35 years as a public health nurse. She retired
from the Chemung County Health Department in 1981. In 1943 she was married to
Henry P. Pounds who predeceased her in 1981. Mary is survived by son, Henry M.
Pounds Jr. of Wilton, CT; grandchildren Kenneth Pounds of Roxbury, CT; Brian
Pounds of Milford, CT; Joanna Simpson of Pasadena, CA; along with three great
grandchildren. She also leaves three surviving sisters, a brother and many
nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof
Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Thursday,
October 15 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on

Age 92, formerly of Fulton St., Elmira, NY, died on Monday, February 11, 2008,
at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. She was born on June 27, 1915 in Morris
Run, PA, to the late Michael and Andrea (Swanson) Steika. Arlene was
predeceased by her husband, Frank McNamara in 1986; and brothers, Charles and
Ardell Steika. Survivors include her daughters, Catherine (Richard) Seely of
Horseheads, Eileen (William) Blampied of Elmira, and Frances (Louis) Tamara of
Elmira Heights; grandchildren, Linda (Douglas) Anderson, Elaine (Joseph)
Banach, Timothy (Kathryn) Seely, Molly McEwan, Michael Tamara and Trisha
Tamara; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Timothy, Katie, Emma, Claira, Erin and
Brian; brother, Arthur (Louise) Steika of Johnson City, NY; sisters-in-law,

–SYLVIA MENCHELLA STEIL - Loving wife, mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother, Slybia Steil age 80 of Latta Brook Road, Elmira, NY. She
was born August 6, 1936 in Ulster, PA, daughter of the late Theodore and
Elizabeth (Maier) Steil and passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016. In
addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Cosmo Menechella
in 1988; brother Donald Steil in 2003 and stepson Wayne Beebe in 2005. She
is survived by her husband Ernest E. Beebe; sons Phillip Menechella of Pine
Valley, Timothy and Maryanne Menechella of Virginia Beach, VA, Thomas and
Lynne Menechella of Elmira Heights, Anthony and Carole Menechella of
Frankfort, KY; daughter Elise Root with Andrew Myers of Elmira Heights; 8
beautiful grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; step daughters Pamela
Perkins of Rochester, NY and Anita Morley of Dansville, NY; step son Timothy
Beebe of Bath, NY; step daughters-in-law Susan Beebe of Montour Falls and
Ida Thompson of Bath, NY; 15 step grandchildren; 25 step great

was loved by many nieces and nephews from the Steil, Menechella and Beebe
families. Sylvia grew up in Gillett, PA. She retired from Corning, Inc. at
the Holding Point in Horseheads after 31 years and was a member of the Moose
Auxiliary. She loved her grandchildren's visits (overnighters); enjoyed
playing cards and baking; loved animals and especially loved to listen to
her husband playing and singing classic country music with his band. Sylvia
enjoyed working outdoors in her vegetable garden and doing yard work. She
loved hosting the annual Easter egg hunt for young and old in her huge yard.

STEINACKER - ROBERTS, Helen E.
Age 92, of Horseheads, NY, died on Friday, January 16, 2009, at her home. She
was born on March 8, 1916 in Johnstown, PA to the late August and Anna (Heinz)
Steinacker. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Frank Roberts in 1983. She is
survived by her son, John Roberts of FL; Donna Roberts of Elmira;
granddaughter, Lynette Roberts of Elmira; sister, Bertha Mucha of Johnstown,
PA; and niece, Doris Skovinsky. It was Helen's wish that no services be held.
Interment will take place in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery at the convenience

STEINMAN -MAUREEN C. SWEENEY of Elmira - A
loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, passed away,
surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, November 18, 2019 at the age
of 66. Maureen was born in Auburn, NY a daughter of the late Harold C. and
Catherine (Farmer) Steinman. She is also predeceased by sister Mitzi Moshier
and brothers, Robert and Gerald Steinman. Maureen is survived by her husband
of 40 years Paul T. Sweeney of Elmira; daughter Courtney E. Sweeney of
Elmira with children, Gianni and Fallon; sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel
P. And Kerry Sweeney of Roanoke VA, Sean M. and Katelyn Sweeney of Roanoke,
VA with son Julius Timothy Sweeney; sister and brother-in-law Kathleen and
"Terp" Terpening of Weedsport, NY; brother Daniel Steinman of Jacksonville,
FL; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty Steinman of Massachusetts,
Connie Steinman of Syracuse, Michaeline "Mickey" Sweeney of Arlington, VA,
Martin V. Sweeney of Parish, FL, Bonnie Sweeney of Himrod NY, Kathleen
Sweeney of Syracuse NY; special cousins, Connie and Gail Sweeney of Elmira;
many nieces, nephews, cousins; canine companion Aggie. Maureen earned her
Bachelor's Degree in Speech Therapy from SUNY Geneseo, continuing her
education at Elmira College where she earned a Master's Degree in Education.
Maureen was an avid NY Yankee and Syracuse University basketball fan. She
enjoyed her time spent at Seneca Lake with special friends, Sarah and Marie.
Ever the doting grandmother Maureen loved the times she was able to spend
with her grandchildren and was grateful to see her newest grandson Julius
Timothy, who was born on October 1, 2019. Family and friends are invited to

STEPHENS age 84, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Wednesday, November 11,
2015. He was born on June 10, 1931 to the late Ira and Mildred (Roe)
Stephens. He was predeceased by his wife, Angeline Stephens; brother, Emmett
Stephens; and sisters, Lillian Clague and Shirley Painter. Claire is
survived by his children, Ben (Jill) Smith, Laurie Stephens and Kimberly
(Darrel) Coolbaugh; sisters, Donna White and Arlene Stephens; grandchildren,
Scott Smith, Amy Papandrea, Ann Smith and Abby Smith; great-grandchildren,
Scarlet Lichtenstein and Cora Papandrea; along with several nieces and

STEPPY -JANICE S. DELANEY -Elmira, age 82,
passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital on Friday, March 13, 2020. Janice was
the daughter of the late James A. and Irene Winter Steppy. She is also
predeceased by her husband William R. DeLaney. Janice is survived by her son
James J. DeLaney; and several cousins. Janice was born in Jersey Shore PA.
Her family moved to Blossburg, PA during her childhood. Janice was a
graduate of Marywood College in Scranton, PA. She started her career as an
educator teaching math in Binghamton NY. Janice moved to Elmira to take a
job as an elementary school guidance counselor. For several years Janice was
also an adult education teacher with STC BOCES. She had been a long time
communicant at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Janice was a devoted daughter,
wife and mother. Private graveside services were held at St. Peter and
Paul's Cemetery. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later

age 85, of Elmira Heights, NY, passed away on Monday, December 14,
2020 at Absolut Care-Three Rivers. She was born in Elmira, NY on October 24,
1935 to the late John and Grace (Dupree) Stermer. Helen was predeceased by
her husband, William Cassada and 8 siblings. She is survived by her son,
Stephen (Debbie) Cassada; daughters, Colleen (Dennis) Ross and Cindy (Ron)
Campbell; brother, Alfred Stermer; grandchildren, Dennis (Marilyn) Ross,
Robert (Mellisa) Ross, Amanda (Justin) Hall, Kirstin Campbell, Michael
(Meagan) Cassada and Sean (Meghan) Cassada; along with several nieces and
nephews. Helen retired as an RN from Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons in Elmira
after many years of service. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass

2015. John was born on January 8, 1950 in Lackawana, NY the son of the late
Clair H. and Dorothy Lutes Stevens. He was a graduate of Horseheads High
School Class of 1968 and he served in The U.S. Army Reserves. John was a
retired electrician from Bouille Electric in Elmira, NY. He was a member of
the IBEW Local 139. He also worked on the expansion project of The Corning
Museum of Glass for Welliver-McGuire. John is survived by his daughter
Jeanne Struble of Horseheads, NY and grandson Tyler Struble of Horseheads,
NY; his son Matthew Stevens of Denver, CO; sister Mary Kathleen "Katie"
Stevens of Westerville, OH; several cousins including Eleanor Lutes and
Dennis & Jean Ann Lutes and many friends. Relatives and friends are invited

STEVENSON Robert L. Stephenson
Age 71, of Elmira, NY, died peacefully December 27th, 2012 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Robert was born in Athens, PA February 14th, 1941. He was the son of the late Leon and Mary Sanzo Stephenson. He is survived by his wife, Laura Stephenson; sons, Allan (Deb) Stephenson of Elmira, Warren (Darlene) Stephenson of Elmira; stepchildren, Tom Drake, Mark Drake, Tony Drake, Greg Drake, and Jackie Bargelski; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Frank (Rose) Stephenson; sister, Janice (Bill) McDonald; along with several nieces and nephews. Robert was a proud United States Navy veteran. Robert worked and retired from the Hillard Corporation after 30 plus years of dedicated service. He was proud to hold his Master's Degree in Computer Programming, which launched him into his last and favorite white collar position for Hillard. His favorite pastime was sharing time with family and sharing his knowledge of computers. STODDARD Raymond H., M.D.
Of Elmira, age 87, died on November 28, 2008, after a short illness. Dr.
Stoddard, son of Leon and Florence Holmes Stoddard, was born on January 7,
1921, in Millport, New York. He was a graduate of Horseheads High School,
Syracuse University and Syracuse University College of Medicine. He interned at
St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, followed by service as a Captain in the U. S.
Army Medical Corps during World War II. He opened his medical office in Elmira
in 1949 and practiced until 1987. Dr. Stoddard was past President of the St.
Joseph's Hospital Medical Staff as well as the Chemung County Medical Society.
He served as medical director of the Chemung County Nursing Facility and
Assistant Medical Director of the Elmira School District; he was the Chemung
County jail physician for many years, as well as a member of the Chemung County
Board of Health. He was the physician for the St. Joseph's Hospital School of
Nursing for more than 25 years. Dr. Stoddard was one of the founding members of
the Notre Dame High School Athletic Association and served two terms as its
President. Dr. Stoddard was predeceased by his wife Rita Corcoran Stoddard, as
well as his sons, Michael and Martin, his parents and his brothers, Ford and
Richard. He is survived by his wife, Arleine Stoddard, whom he married in 1976;
his daughters, Jeanne Pidot (Whitney) and Karen Stoddard (Eileen O'Neill); his
son, Raymond (Mary); and his daughter-in-law, Deborah Stoddard; four grandsons
and one great-granddaughter; his sisters, Elizabeth Dunlap and Helen
Cunningham; many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral

STONE Mary
A life long resident of Elmira, who resided at Bragg Towers, died following an
illness on Saturday, February 2, 2008, while a patient in Highland Hospital,
Rochester, NY. Mary was born on October 6, 1933. She was employed for many
years as a home health aide for Americare before her retirement. Mary was a
private lady who enjoyed playing BINGO with her friends. Surviving is her
nephew, Eric (Wendy) Woodyard and their daughter, Brittany Toffan; a niece,
Suzanne Cooklin and her son, Brandon; and a niece, Chris Terpstra; additional
nieces, nephews and family friends. Mary's funeral services will be held
privately at her family's convenience with burial in Sts. Peter & Paul's

Age 76, of Elmira, NY, died on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born on August 2, 1934 in Latvia, Europe to the late Konstantins and Marija (Andzans) Strods. STRONG Jean Roberta
HOFBAUER Jean Roberta Strong, Lombard, Clark Age 77, died at home surrounded by
her family. Jean was born in Van Etten, NY on March 4, 1929, the daughter of
Claude and Florence Everts Strong. She attended Odessa School, then graduated
from Southside High in Elmira in 1946. Jean married Leo Lombard, and they owned
and ran Leo's Bar and Grill in Elmira. After Leo's death (12/1977), Jean
married Elmer "Tug" Clark (10/1992) and was employed by 7-11/Sugar
Creek. Jean then married Clement Hofbauer who predeceased her in January 2000.
She was also predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy Saltus and Marion "Ruth"
Strong. When Jean was diagnosed with Alzheimer's she moved into the home of her
niece, Wanetta Satomaa, in Spencer, NY where she was cared for by Wanetta and
her partner Colleen Archer. Jean was a devout Catholic, devoted wife, loving
mother, avid bowler, practical joker and loved her sisters, family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Cindy Lombard-Head, with husband Sherman of
Richmond, VA; son Bernie Lombard with Missy Knowles of Erin, NY and his
children Kylie and Michael; son Phil Lombard, with partner Tim Gregg, of
Chicago, IL; sisters Wanda Satomaa of Van Etten, NY; step children, Janet
"Mitzie" (George) Keith, of Elmira, Bob (LaVonna) Clark of Caton, PA,
Dick (Anne) Clark of Blossburg, PA, Margie (Dan) Pastalonic of Houston, TX,
Dennis Hofbauer of Elmira, Nancy (Bob) Phillips of Kingston, PA, Phil (Bonnie)

age 92, formerly of 338 E. Thurston St, Elmira NY died Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Flo (as she was known by many) was blessed with two wonderful husbands who preceded her. Chester Maslinski and Peter Ball who together gave her 6 wonderful children, and many grand and great grandchildren and others who she considered a part of her immediate family. She took pride in having such a large and loving family that played a big part of her everyday life and provided many happy memories. She is survived by her 5 daughters: Patricia Maslinski Comfort of Anniston AL, Linda Maslinski Kulago (John deceased) of Gillett, PA, Marilou Ball Pierson (William ) of Churchton, MD , Susan Ball Piper (Larwence) of Painted Post, NY ,Annmarie Ball Streff (Peter ) of Burke, VA, and special niece Barbara Studzinski Repsher of Elmira NY and predeceased son Ronald Ball. Grandchildren of Kerena Comfort Sayers, Timothy Kulago, Kevin Comfort, Christina Piper Kager, Elizabeth Pierson, Daniel Piper, Erika Pierson, and Great Nieces Felicia Repsher Torres and Andrea Repsher Shields who were like grandchildren to her. Also, predeceased by grandson Paul Kulago. She was the great grandmother of 6 and the great, great aunt to 2 nephews who she considered her great grandchildren; sister to Louis Senkow and deceased brothers Vincent Studzinski and Henry Studzinski. Her first passion was always "food" any time day or night. Anyone who stopped by for a visit was usually offered something to eat. Her home and heart was open to every person who came through the door. The first thing you noticed when entering her home was the ROOSTERS!!! Her vast collection was in every room of the house and the topic of many conversations. There was never a time in which she did not open her refrigerator and heart to all who entered her home. Hobbies included cooking, playing cards, talking on the phone, and knitting all while listening to polka music. She was an active member of St. Cecilia's Parish (Blessed Sacrament Parish), Catholic War Veterans, and American Legion in Elmira Heights. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. STUTSKE - MILLHAM, Mary Ella
A longtime resident of the Elmira Heights community died Saturday, February 27,
2010. Born on April 10, 1918 in Elmira, She was the daughter of the late
Frederick A. and Mary Frances Collins Stutske. Mary graduated from Elmira Free
Academy and received a degree from Elmira Business Institute. She Was employed
briefly at American Bridge in Elmira Heights where she would meet her future husband,
Harold "Pete" S. Millham and they were married on February 8, 1941;
he predeceased her on October 3, 1996. Mary was a devoted wife and mother. She
was active in Elmira Heights Women's Rotary, the PTA and Girl Scouts. In later
years she was employed by Charles Albert's Jewelry Store and Jerome's Clothing
Store. She was a communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Church for over 50 years.
Surviving is her loving daughter and son-in-law, Anne (R. Smith) Clifton,
Albuquerque, NM and grandson, Adam Clifton. In addition to her beloved family.
Mary leaves behind wonderful and cherished friends who made her final days so
special and comfortable. Thank you to Ide Mezur, Tom & Mary Klotz and Joy

SULLIVAN Francis J. "Shang" Sullivan, age 84, well known former resident of Macedonia, Towanda RR 2, died Sunday afternoon, Oct 15, 2000, at the Bradford County Manor. Born May 22, 1916, on Morley Hill, Rome Township, he was a son of the late John L. and Alice HOMAN SULLIVAN. Francis attended elementary school in Ulster and Macedonia and was a graduate of Towanda High School, class of 1934. In that same year he assumed the operation of the present family farm in Macedonia which he continued until his retirement in 1980. In January of 1942 he married the former Mary MCCARTHY, who preceded him in death on September 10, 1982. Francis was vice-president and former secretary of Eastern Milk Producers and made many trips to New York on the Black Diamond, negotiating mild contracts through the years. He was an active member of the Towanda School Board during the 1950's served as the Democratic Bradford County Chairman, and was a member of the Towanda Gun Club. Francis was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Towanda; Wysox Volunteer Fire Department; and Towanda Elks Lodge No. 2191. In 1988, Francis was honored by being inducted into the Voter's Hall of Fame, for voting in 50 consecutive elections. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law; James L. and Connie SULLIVAN of Monroeton, Raymond F.and Shirley SULLIVAN of Horseheads, NY, and John M. and Christine SULLIVAN of Wysox; a son, Walter P. Age 84, of Fayetteville, NY, formerly of Elmira, died at his home on Thursday,
January 31, 2008. Jim was born November 24, 1923 in Elmira, a son of William
and Nora O'Neill Sullivan. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by
brothers, John, William and Robert, and sister, Mary Lou Sullivan. He is
survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Reidy Sullivan; children, with their

–JOAN EASTON a longtime resident of Hudson Acres, Pine City passed away Mon.
morning, Dec. 26, 2016 at the Highland Living Center, Pittsford, NY
following declining health. Born in Elmira, Joan was the daughter of the
late, John J. Sullivan & Antoinette Cascio Sullivan. She married Stuart
Easton on May 30, 1959 at St. Peter & Paul’s Church, Elmira and “Stu”
predeceased her on Nov. 25, 2007. Joan was employed by St. Joseph’s Hospital
as an X-Ray Technician from her late teenage years until early retirement.
She was an active communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She loved her friends
and enjoyed playing euchre with them at the Southport Senior Citizens Center
at Chapel Park. She enjoyed horseback riding, bowling and traveling with her
husband every year to Ormond Beach Florida to spend time with close friends
and family. Additionally, they spent endless days and summers on Keuka and
Seneca lake, and treasured time spent with her cherished family. Joan is
remembered for her sense of style, her kind heart, her contagious laughter
and her warm and generous smile. Surviving are her loving and saddened
children, Dr. Caroline Easton, Pittsford, NY; Mark (Alison) Easton, New
Paultz, NY; Craig (Sue) Easton, Kerhonkson, NY; a cherished family friend,
(Dr. Richard Doolittle); five grandchildren, William Easton Creighton,
Maxwell and Stuart Easton; Amanda and Aimee Easton and one great grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was predeceased by her brother,
John James Sullivan July 18, 2004. Family and friends will be received at

SULLIVAN age 89, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Arnot
Ogden Medical Center. Jack was born in Elmira on April 1, 1925, a son of
James and Mary (Conroy) Sullivan. He is predeceased by his wife Margaret
Hickey Sullivan, sisters, Dorothy Lankow, Alice Larson, Helen Quatrini and
Rita Ruhmel. Jack is survived by his children, Kathleen M. Sullivan of West
Chester PA; John M. Sullivan of Dover NH with his wife Patricia and
children, Brendan and Meghan; Daniel P. Sullivan of Amherst NH with his wife
Geri and his sons, John and Patrick; James F. Sullivan of Portsmouth NH with
his wife Pamela and children, Erin (Todd) Gonzales, Caitlin and Sean; great
granddaughter Lindsay Gonzales; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Julie and
Daniel Mullane of Carlisle PA; long-time family friend Mary Rosenberg of
Elmira; along with several nieces and nephews. Jack was a U S Army veteran
of World War II. He was an installer with Western Electric for 37 years,

devoted husband of 36 years, Hon. Peter C. Buckley, Sr. and loving brother,

Elizabeth D. Buckley of Rochester, NY; Patrick S. Buckley, MD and wife,
Kirsten of Philadelphia, PA; and Kathleen M. Buckley of Philadelphia, PA;

Kate graduated from Notre Dame High School (Elmira) in 1970 and went on to
make lifelong friends at Manhattanville College, where she graduated in 1974
with a B.S. in Mathematics. Later, she obtained a Masters degree in
Education from Mansfield University and followed with an administrative
certification. Kate began teaching mathematics in 1974 and was an ardent
supporter of education throughout her life. She worked at BOCES for over 30
years, finishing her career as a supervisor of adult literacy in 2013.
Kate's life focused on her family, always bringing laughter and love into
each day of her husband and children's lives. She enjoyed playing with her
grandchildren and always had a toy waiting for them when they visited. She
loved to play the piano and would lead family sing-a-longs at holiday
gatherings. Kate recognized the importance of friendship and cherished the
memories and laughter shared with her many friends. She was a long-time
parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Parish and could often be heard singing in
the church choir. Kate battled pancreatic cancer for five and a half years
and her family will always be inspired by her courage and example, living
life to the fullest each day. Her family recognizes her friends for their
countless hours of loving care, friendship, and compassion. Friends are

Age 58, formerly of Elmira NY and Easton MD, died on Saturday, November 10, 2012 in Myrtle Beach SC. Lee was born in Elmira on February 20, 1954, son of the late Patrick J. and Donna (McLane) Sullivan. He was also predeceased by sister Julie Ann Sullivan. Lee is survived by his five children, Brandon, Sean, Eric, Julie and Aimee; brother Gary P. Sullivan with children, Kellen and Ryhan; sister Mary Kim Sullivan with daughter Jade; sister and brother-in-law, Karen A. and James Siegman with children, Mary Caiyln, Kelsea, Lindsey, Matthew and Neil; former wife Gail Keller Sullivan. Lee was a 1972 graduate of Notre Dame High School. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Kentucky University. Lee was the Executive Director for Bethany House in Cordova MD. Lee thrived on an unrivaled ability to positively impact the lives of individuals inside the Bethany House program, as well as the outside community at large, for over twenty years. Lee was passionate about very few things more so than his love of music and enjoyed playing guitar all of his life. He was also an avid photographer, producing countless images of remarkable quality. Age 75, of Elmira, died at her home on Friday, October 3, 2008. Margaret was
born October 8, 1932, a daughter of the late William and Nora O'Neill Sullivan.
In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her sister, Mary Lou Sullivan,
and brothers, John, William, Robert, and James Sullivan. Margaret is survived
by her loving husband of 52 years, Francis M. Steed; beloved children, with
their families, Bridget M. Steed, of Elmira, with son Dylan; Catherine N.
Steed, with husband Richard McGrail and daughter, Bridget, of North Easton, MA;
Therese C. and Michael Pentaris of Oneonta, NY, with children, Joanna, Alexia,
Mikhail, Demetrios, and Antonios; Barbara A. and Robert MacBlane of Elmira with
children, Margaret "Maggie" and Michael; F. Michael Steed of Elmira;
and Margaret "Margo" Swarthout of Elmira. Also surviving are brothers

Kailua, HI; sisters, Kathleen Dunn, Ann Starr, both of Elmira, and Joan

Hospital School of Nursing. She also attended Nazareth College in Rochester.
Margaret was the office nurse for Dr. Kosmaler for a number of years, before
going to work for Gerould's Pharmacy. Margaret was devoted to faith and family.

Peacefully, Marguerite died at the Chemung County Nursing Facility on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the age of 97. She was predeceased by her husband Charles and son Timothy. Proud mother of Paul (Carolyn) and beloved Nana to Sean, Brian, Colleen, Kevin, Kierstin and Patrick, as well as to seven great-grandchildren, and one great grandson due in June. She is also survived by former daughter-in-law Mimi Laux Spankroy and daughter-in-law Mary Backes. Marguerite was retired from the Elmira City School District and was a lifelong, valued member of St. Patrick's Church. She was the last survivng member of her generation of Sullivans. She loved the annual Sullivan Family Reunion, time spent at Keuka Lake, and playing cards with her grandchildren. Pauline Ann Services celebrating Polly's life were held on Monday, March 5,
2007. A Prayer Service was held at McInerny Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of
Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church. Father Walter Wainwright was the
presider along with co-celebrants Father Robert MacNamara and Father Matthew
Newcomb. Upon entering the church, Polly's daughters, Sue Velasco, Maureen
Goldsberry, Ginny Crone and Cathleen Palkowski, placed the funeral pall on her
casket. Readers were nephew, Kevin Sullivan and granddaughter, Maria Mendiburo.
Father Wainwright gave the gospel reading and delivered the homily. Offertory
gifts were presented by Bob Goldsberry, Kate Goldsberry and Alex Palkowski.
Remarks of Remembrance were shared by daughter, Ginny. Interment followed at
St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Crone, Walter Palowski,

Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army service in the Korean War as a Sergeant with the 40th infantry. His military awards include the Army of Occupation Medal - Japan, Korean Service Medal Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. While in the military Bob served with his lifelong friend John Palladino. Bob retired as manager of the plumbing and heating department at Sears & Roebuck after 36 years of service. Wanting to keep active, Bob went on to work for another 16 years for Chemung County BOCES. A devout Catholic, Bob was a long time communicant of St. Patrick's Church, a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society and a faithful participant of the Divine Mercy Chapel at St. Casimir's Church. He was proud of his Irish heritage and was a member of the Msgr. John J. Lee Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Bob was especially proud of his family and cherished time spent with them. Elmira: Age 87, died Monday, July 29, 2013. Tom was born May 22, 1926, in Elmira, son of Nora (O'Neill) and William E. Sullivan. He is predeceased by his infant son Joseph, son John, son-in-law Peter Buckley, siblings and their spouses, John and Josephine, William, Kathleen and Paul Dunn, James and Jean, Robert, Mary Lou, Margaret Steed, in-laws, Mary Sullivan, Thomas Whitaker, and John Marinan. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Marinan Sullivan; children, with their families, daughter-in-law Susan, with children, Sandi (William), Meghan and Joseph (Tania); Daniel (Bobbie) and daughter MacKenzie; Kathleen Buckley with children, Peter (Erin) and their children, Jack, Molly, Finn and Nora; Elizabeth, Patrick and Kathleen; Thomas (MaryAnn) with their daughters, Katie and Courtney; siblings, Ann Starr, Gerry Sullivan, Joan Whitaker; sisters-in-law, Dale Sullivan Beymer, Edna Sullivan, and Lynn Marinan; brother-in-law Francis Steed; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was a US Navy veteran, serving during WW II. He was a 1944 graduate of Elmira Free Academy, a 1950 graduate of Niagara University, and a 1953 graduate of Albany Law School. Tom practiced law with the law firm of Personius, Cramer, Mustico, and Sullivan and an Administrative Law Judge for the NYS Compensation Board. He was an attorney for numerous towns including Erin, Van Etten, Chemung, and Catlin. During his career Tom was active in the Democratic Party serving as Corporation Counsel for the City of Elmira and as a Deputy Chemung County Attorney. Tom was a life time member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Msgr. John J. Lee Division, Knights of Columbus - Elmira Council #229, Elks Local #62, and a long time communicant of Christ the Redeemer Parish. Tom's love of his wife and family provided him great pride and joy throughout his life. "Pa" was much loved by his grandchildren and was supportive and active in their daily lives. Tom's family extends their appreciation to his caregivers, Roxanne Johnson, Jessica Kohout, Molly Lee, and Porky Tarby, for their continued support and care. Funerals - Timothy Sullivan, an employee of the City of Elmira many years, died
very unexpectedly this morning at 11 o’clock at the family apartments, 503 East
Church street, aged about seventy years. Mr. Sullivan had not been in
good health the past few days and was able to visit friends in the business
part of the city this morning. He returned to his home at 10:30 o’clock
and suffered a sinking spell, which followed with his death in about a half
hour. He is survived by two daughters Mrs. A. Cannon and Mrs. Catherine
Leary, also a son Thomas Fitzgerald and a sister Mrs. Catherine Hewitt of
Cambridge Springs NY. The remains were removed to the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Leary, 703 Jay Street. The funeral will be announced later.
Ed. note: Timothy Sullivan was the second husband of Nancy (Flynn) Fitzgerald
Sullivan. Nancy died in 1896. Timothy was predeceased by his only
son, John Sullivan, who died in 1907. Mrs. Patrick (Mary Ann) Cannan is
his only daughter. He was step-father to Nancy’s three children by her
first marriage to Francis Fitzgerald: Thomas Fitzgerald, Katherine Fitzgerald
(Mrs. Patrick) Leary and Francis Fitzgerald (d. 1900).
WILLIAM EDWARD SULLIVAN SR., 63 of 925 Lincoln St., unexpectedly this morning, Nov. 1, 1954. He was a Star-Gazette printer for 42 years and a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church. SUPPLE - MURTAUGH
Mrs. Frances Louise (Supple) 93, of Salisbury, died Tuesday November 7, 2006 at
Genesis Elder Care in Salisbury, NC. Mrs. Murtaugh, known as Fran to all who
knew her, was born on March 31st, 1913 in Hartford, Connecticut to the late
Margaret Grady and William Supple. She grew up in Elmira and graduated from St.
Peter and Paul's Grammar School, Elmira Free Academy and St. Joseph's Hospital
School of Nursing. Fran graduated from St. Joseph's in the class of 1934, and
became a Registered Nurse. Her diverse focus in nursing was primarily hospital
care and private duty. During WWII she worked at Bendix Aviation in Elmira,
moved her family to Ft. Lewis Army Depot in the state of Washington where her
husband was stationed and served as a civilian nurse at Mt. Rainer Ordinance
Depot. Eighteen years ago she relocated to Salisbury, NC to be near her family.
While in Salisbury, Fran volunteered at Knollwood Elementary School with a
second grade reading program, with Sacred Heart Catholic School's prayer pals,
stayed active in the resident programs at Genesis Elder Care, and was an
outstanding grandmother. Mrs. Murtaugh attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Salisbury, NC and was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elmira,
NY. Frances L. Murtaugh is preceded in death by her husband William J. Murtaugh
and grandchild John Brian Murtaugh. She is survived by her daughter Patricia
Bronson and husband Hiram of Camano Island, Washington, sons Michael W.
Murtaugh of Phuket, Thailand, James Murtaugh and wife, Patricia, of Salisbury,
NC and Kevin W. Murtaugh and wife, Cathy, of Sorrento, Florida. A brother,
Walter Supple of Elmira, NY and a sister-in-law Rose Supple (wife of the late
Edward Supple), of Palmyra, NY. Also surviving are four grandchildren Karen
Bronson, US Embassy, Iraq, Matthew Bronson, Spokane, Washington, Colleen
Murtaugh, Wilmington, NC and Lt. Corbin Murtaugh, San Diego, CA, two great
grandchildren, Jayme and Kylee Bronson and many extended family members.

11:00 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will follow at 12

Teresa L. (Cowulich) Age 88, of Elmira, NY. She was born April 28, 1917 in
Elmira, daughter of the late John and Nora (Wisniewski) Sutkowski and died
Saturday, December 10, 2005, at Bethany Manor. She was predeceased by her
husband, Steven Cowulich in 1966, husband, John Levanduski in 1993; and
daughter-in-law, Antoinette Cowulich in 1990. Mrs. Levanduski is survived by
her children and their spouses, Stephen and JoAnn Cowulich of Horseheads, Roger
and Margaret Cowulich of Elmira, Michael and Martha Cowulich of Blythewood, SC,
Vicki Bednarek of Elmira, John and Sharon Levanduski of FL, Robert and Maryann
Coughlin of Horseheads, Rita Levanduski of FL; ten grandchildren, 25
great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Marilyn Sutkowski of
Binghamton, NY; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Irene and Kenneth Bump of
Elmira Heights, along with several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Levanduski was a
communicant of St. Casimir's Church. She retired from The Bootery in Elmira.

Of Binghamton, 96, of Binghamton, died Monday, January 25, 2010, at the James
G. Johnston Memorial Nursing Home. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64
years, Marilynn J. Sutkowski; and a sister, Theresa Cowulich. He is survived by
his sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas J. Sutkowski Jr. and Judith Hopkins,
Hartford, CT, John and Terry Sutkowski, Binghamton; his grandchildren, Mary
Elizabeth Sutkowski, Meghan Hopkins-Pineda, Jennifer Hudson;
great-grandchildren, Eamon Pineda and Morgan Pineda. He was a member of the
Church of Saints John and Andrew, Binghamton and was a retired manager with
Gulf Oil Corporation. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Tom enjoyed
golf and was a devout N.Y. Giants fan and was past-commander of Catholic War

passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital SNF on Sunday,
December 15, 2019. JoEllen was born in Elmira, daughter of the late T.
Edward Sweeney and Dorothy Gillette Sweeney McConnell. She is also
predeceased by step-father George McConnell and infant sister Patricia
Sweeney. JoEllen is survived by brother and sister-in-law Gerald E. and
Patricia Sweeney of Cohoes NY; brother Michael J. Sweeney of Albany NY;
along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. JoEllen was a life-long
communicant of St. Mary's Church. She attended St. Mary's Grammar School
graduating in 1954 and was a 1958 graduate of Southside High School. JoEllen
worked with Capabilities in Elmira for over 30 years. She was always happy
when spending time with her family whom she loved dearly. JoEllen was a
great baby-sitter for her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She enjoyed baking cookies and was known for her special spaghetti sauce.

–JOANNA LUCY NEE SWINSICK MARINO age 52 of West Elmira, NY passed away
unexpectedly on Thursday, July 14th, 2016. She was lifelong resident of
Elmira, NY. Joanna was born on November 16, 1963. She was a graduate of
Elmira Southside High School and St. Joseph's School of Nursing. Joanna
spent her career as an R.N. at St. Joseph's Hospital, until her retirement.
Joanna married Martin N. Marino, proprietor of Marino Sign Company, in St.
Mary's Church in 2000, where they remained active parishioners. Joanna was a
beloved wife, sister, aunt and friend. Joanna was a kind, gentle soul who
would do anything for anyone. She never let life's struggles get her down.
Joanna enjoyed spending time with both her border collies, Patriot and
Liberty, was an avid gardener and a wonderful cook who prepared all of the
traditional family recipes. Joanna was very active in CPE agility trials
with Patriot, even achieving a catch pole with him. She was predeceased by
her parents, Kenneth and Mary (Hulslander) Swinsick. She is survived by her
loving husband, Martin N. Marino of Elmira; sisters, Kathy (Lee) Vavrasek
and Maryann (Timothy) Polidori; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo (Gordon) Craver and
Diana (Mihir) Shah; nieces, Marybeth (Jacob) Seller, Jessica Vavrasek, Kelly
Polidori, Grace Shah and Maya Shah; and nephew Martin Willson. She is also
survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Those wishing may make a

Elmira: Age 82, died on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Stella was born August 8, 1928 a daughter of William and Alice (Michalubszczy) Szymkiewicz. She is predeceased by her husband Charles F. Vegard, son Gregory, sisters, Lottie, Helen, and Anne, and brother Eddie. Stella is survived by her children, with their families, Dawn and Gary Vaughn of Dekalb IL; Dennis and Becky Vegard of Elmira with children, Kelly Vegard, Jenny (Jonathan) Murphy, and Katie Vegard; Charlene Carey of Elmira with children, Michael and Bridgett Carey; Michelle and Butch Snell of York PA with son Brandon Moore; great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Charlie, Kayon, and Alyssa; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Stella was born in Bradford NY and moved to Corning as a child, where she graduated from Northside High School. She moved to Elmira after marrying Charles. Stella worked for the Chemung County Family Court for 25 years retired in 1986 as the Chief Court Clerk. Along with her husband Charles she was active with the American Legion Post #443, Elmira Eagles Club #941, and Elmira Elks Lodge #62. Stella and Charles enjoyed traveling through the United States, up into Canada, and to Europe and Mexico. They also looked forward to their winters in Florida. Always on the go and active Stella loved to cook, garden, sew, and decorate her home. Stella passed on to her children the importance of negotiating any deal since she was the "Queen Negotiator". Stella took great pride and joy in being with her family, attending events that her children and grandchildren were active in. She loved her family which was more important to her than anything. The Vegard home was known for the legendary Christmas Eve gatherings. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Elmira. Friends are invited to call at the VanBuskirk-Lynch Funeral Home, Mill St. & Grand Central Ave., Horseheads on Monday from 7 to 9 PM. Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 8:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Charles Borromeo Church. Interment in St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery. Mrs. DeGolyer was born June 24, 1906 in Olean, NY the daughter of Albert & Mary Kwiatkowski Szadlowski. She was the widow of Walter L.
