They attended church together and engaged in "trade" or business. All people are listed in alphabetic order by surname at BIRTH. BACCHIERI - PIECUCH
Mary T. (Bacchieri) Compassionate Nurse Of Elmira, NY, died on Saturday, June
25, 2005, at Chemung County Nursing Facility where she had resided for the last
five years. Mary was born on September 11, 1919 the daughter of the late Alex
and Pauline Bacchieri. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Rose (William)
Drake of Elmira, NY, Cheryl (Ron) Kelsey of Benton, PA; son, Steven (Deb)
Piecuch of Millerton, PA; son-in-law, Philip Deery of Wellsboro, PA;
grandchildren, Janelle Drake, Nicole Drake, Jace Steadman, Brian Steadman, Zane
Kelsey, Steve Piecuch, Brad Piecuch, Matthew Piecuch, Julie Bailey, Chemaine
Osterbind; and seven great-grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by her husband,
Walter Piecuch; and daughter, Elaine Deery. She was employed at St. Joseph's
Hospital as a nurse for many years and most importantly she was a loving
mother, grandmother and compassionate nurse. It was Mary's request that there
be no calling hours and a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held
Monday, June 27, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Peter & Paul's Church corner of
High and Market Streets, Elmira, NY, Father Rick Farrell will celebrate the
Mass. Interment in St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery will take place at the
convenience of the family. Those wishing may make memorials to the Chemung
County Nursing Facility, Resident Activity Fund. The family would like to thank
the staff on the third floor of CCNF for their excellent care and kindness and
to Dr. Rupik, Dr. Corbalon and Ken Wrigley.
BACCILE Albert J.
Age 94, of Elmira, NY, died Saturday, January 2, 2010, at the St. Joseph's
Hospital in Elmira. Albert was born on December 26, 1915 in Coaldale, PA, son
of the late Liberato and Elizabeth (Scarinci) Baccile. Albert served our
country in the United States Army (9th Infantry Division) during WWII. He
served on the European Front: Africa, Italy and Normandy. He was discharged as
a staff sergeant, along with receiving an honorable Purple Heart and Bronze
Star. He was employed for the Civilian Conservation Corps, during the Great Depression.
Albert retired as a Code Enforcement Officer for the City of Elmira after many
years of service. He also worked for Remington Rand for several years and was a
longtime member of the Italian American Veterans Club in Elmira and active
member of the Senior Center. Albert was also a longtime communicant of St.
Anthony's Church. He was a boxer in the CC Corps and the US Army, but was a
very family orientated man. He loved to dance and entertain a crowd. He was an
avid reader and sports enthusiast. Survivors include his sons, Alfred and Nick;
sisters, Angelina Baccile-Popovich, Betty Baccile-Dandrea and Theresa
Baccile-Olson; brother, Tony Baccile; grandchildren, David (Leanne) and their
children, Gabriel, Mira and Christian, Peter (Kristy) and their daughter,
Emelia, Lisa (Joshua) Navone. Albert was predeceased by his wife, Lucy in 1980;
sisters, Helen Baccile-Franzese, Elizabeth Baccile, Connie Baccile-Warner and
Mary Baccile-Leftowic; brothers, Tripoli "Paul," Dominick and
Nicholas Baccile. Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday, January 5,
2010, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Prayer service
will be held there on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a
Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church. Interment will
follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Published

BACCILE Alfred P.
Age 63 of Horseheads, NY died on Wednesday August 22, 2012 after a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Al was born December 7, 1948 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Albert and Lucy D'Orio Baccile. He was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy High School Class of 1966 and he received his Associate's Degree from Corning Community College. Al was a retired Customer Service Representative for NYSEG in Horseheads, NY and a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads. Al was a member of The Italian American Veterans' Club in Elmira and The Multiple Sclerosis Support Group. He was a CYO Basketball Coach and Commisioner of CYO for many years. Al loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. Mr. Baccile is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: David & LeAnne Baccile of Cumming , Iowa and their children Gabriel, Mira, and Christian Baccile; Peter & Kristy Baccile of Corning, NY and their daughter Emelia Baccile; daughter and son-in-law: Lisa M. & Joshua C. Navone of Watkins Glen, NY; brother: Nicholas Baccile of The Villages, Florida; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. BACKER - HEIB Catherine (Backer)
Born August 10th, 1926 in Elmira, N.Y. died peacefully on Feb. 7, 2010 at the
age of 83. She is predeceased by her husband John E. Heib. She leaves behind
three sons, Michael (Cinny) Heib of Painted Post, NY, Martin (Meggie) Heib of
Rye Brook, NY, Daniel (Joan) Heib of Victor, NY. and five grandchildren,
Ainsley Heib, Evan and Adele Heib, and Christine and Katherine Heib. She is
predeceased by her parents Harry and Margaret (Clancy) Backer, brothers Daniel,
John, and Robert Backer and sister Margaret (Backer) Wrigley. She is survived
by her brother Harry (Bugs) Backer of Elmira, NY, her sister Elizabeth (Joseph)
Danaher of Horseheads, NY and many nieces and nephews. Cassie was a loving and
proud mother and grandmother. She loved to quilt and was a member of several
local quilting guilds. She was a life-long member of the Catholic Church and
All Saints Parish in Corning, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a
Memorial Mass on Wednesday February 10, 2010 at St. Mary Our Mother Church in
Horseheads, NY at 1030 am. Interment in St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery in

BACON Alden F.
Age 89, of Elmira, NY. He was born September 8, 1918 in Elmira, son of the late
Charles and Margaret (Recker) Bacon, and died Friday, February 22, 2008, at
home. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary in 1995; daughter, Beverly in 1963;
and his brothers and sisters. Mr. Bacon is survived by his children and their
spouses, Ellen Bacon of Sayre, PA, Jeanne and Gene Deery of Elmira, Bill and
Anne Bacon of Elmira; grandchildren, Jeff Deery, Jennifer Deery and Lydia
Bacon. Mr. Bacon retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Elmira in 1978 after
30 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World
War II, where he was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Okinawa,
Japan. He was a member and past treasurer of NARFE. Family and friends are

Elmira, on Sunday, February 24th, from 2 to 4 p.m. His Mass of Christian Burial

CHARLES J. BACON,
age 71, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019. He was born
on October 17, 1947 in Elmira, NY to the late John and Orella (Lloyd) Bacon.
Charles is survived by his brothers, Ed (Mary) Bacon of VA, Thomas Bacon of
Elmira and John Bacon of GA; sisters, Theresa Olmstead of Horseheads and
Betty Sturgill of Elmira; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins and
many close friends. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday,
January 4th from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home.
Funeral service will take place there at 12:30 pm with Father Scott Kubinski

BAILEY Walter E.
Elmira: Age 91, died peacefully at his home with his loving family by his bedside on Thursday, January 10, 2013. Walter was born in Elmira July 8, 1921 a son of Walter E. and Margaret Bailey. He is predeceased by his wife of 66 years Claudia M. Bailey and sister-in-law Virella Russo. Walter is survived by his children, with their spouses, Paul Bailey, Horseheads, Roxanna and David Merriam, Jackson MS, Claudia and Richard Olson, Cortland NY, Carlos and Marcia Mejia, Atlanta GA; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother Donald Bailey, Tampa FL; along with several nieces and nephews. A WWII veteran serving in the Army Air Force, Walter met his wife Claudia while stationed in Central America. At the time he didn't speak Spanish and she didn't speak English, but they made it work and had 66 wonderful years together. While in the military he earned the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal. Walter worked as a machinist tool & die maker for 20 years at Remington Rand before going to work, in the same capacity, at IBM in Owego for another 20 years. He was a long time communicant of St. Patrick's Church. Walter was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. BAKER - KOENIG
Dorothy B. "Aunt Dot" Age 87 of Norfolk, VA, formerly of Elmira, died
on Tuesday, January 17, 2006. Dorothy was born October 19, 1918 in Elmira, the
daughter of the late Seth and Marguerite Baker. She is predeceased by her
devoted husband Harold M. Koenig. Left to cherish Dorothy's memory are her
sister Helen L. Gee; brothers, Orlo W. Baker, Joseph W. Baker and Paul A.
Baker; along with numerous loving nieces, nephews; and close friend Pauline
Pealer of Elmira. Dorothy was an avid bingo player and spent many happy hours
at St. Pius with her friends just waiting for that chance to shout

BAKER -DAWN M. LESZYK age 82 of Elmira, NY. She
was born November 30, 1938 in Blossburg, PA daughter of the late Wesley and
Phyllis (Hill) Baker and passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the
Chemung County Nursing Facility. She was predeceased by her loving husband
of 58 years, John, on January 12, 2020; her sister Kathleen Meehan and
brother Harry Baker. Dawn is survived by her children and their spouses John
Leszyk & Michelle Przekop of The Villages, FL, Mark Leszyk of Watkins Glen,
Matthew Leszyk of Corning, Jennifer & Greg Emmons of Watkins Glen, Luke &
Jane Leszyk of Watkins Glen and Mary & Dirk Cosgrove of Watkins Glen;
grandchildren Jason, Paul, Danielle, Cassandra, Emily, Ryan, Stephanie and
Casie; great grandsons Atticus and Chandler; sisters Joanie Collin of
Horseheads and Patty Murray of Elmira; step mother Frances Baker of Elmira
along with several nieces and nephews. Dawn was a registered nurse retiring
from St. Joseph's Hospital. She and John moved to the country, Parrott Road,
Cayuta, built a house and lived there for 50 years. Family and friends are

Age 89, of Davis St., Elmira, died on October 21, 2009 at Bethany Manor. Orlo
is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Daniel (Rita Castillo) Baker, Pine City;
daughter, Jo-Ellen (Robert) Weber, San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Samantha and
Danielle Weber, Eric, Justin, Shelly, and Michael Castillo and Harrison Lewis;
several great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Louise Gee; brothers, Joe (Mary
Elizabeth) Baker, Paul (Deborah) Baker; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Age 50 of Elmira, NY. She was born November 10, 1958 in Elmira, daughter of the
late Donald and Sylvia (Hodge) Brimmer and died Thursday, September 3, 2009, at
the Robert Packer Hospital. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Alissa
Renee Tollinchi and is survived by her children, Angela Baldick, Mark Baldick,

Age 92, a life long resident of Elmira Heights, died Saturday, July 4, 2009.
Rose was born November 8, 1916, daughter of Nicholas and Julia Bubniak Ball.
She is predeceased by her husband Joseph Tormey. Rose is survived by her
daughters and sons-in-law, Jacqueline and Walter Ermold of Horseheads, with
children, Kara (Martin) Mechalke, Kristen (Craig) Michael, James (Lisa) Ermold;
Patricia and Daniel Smarsh of Elmira Heights, with children, Laura (Scott)

RONALD G. BALL
Ronald G. Ball, 39, of Rochester, NY and formerly of Elmira died July 11,
1990 at Highland Hospital in Rochester. He was a 1968 graduate of EFA and
actively involved in labor relations in the Rochester area. He is survived by
his mother, Florence of Elmira; sisters, Barbara Repsher of Elmira, Patricia
Comfort of Anniston, AL, Linda Kulago of Gillett, PA, Marilou Pierson of Muich,
West German, Susan Piper of Elmira and Annmarie Ball of Alexandria, VA. A mass
of Christian Burial was held July 14 at St. Cecilia's Church in Elmira with

BAMBURY Mary Murray
Elmira: died Sunday, February 20, 2011 at her home after a brief illness. Mary was born June 10, 1913 a daughter of Edward and Mary Bambury. She is predeceased by her husband John B. Murray, and brother, Edward Bambury. Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, J. Tony and Patricia Murray of Elmira; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and John DeLaney of Syracuse; son and daughter-in-law, David and Lois Murray of Horseheads; daughter and son-in-law, M. Virginia "Ginny" and Michael Wolf, with whom she resided. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Matthew, Mary Elizabeth, Michael (Kelley), and Helene (fianc? Josh Colegrove) Wolf; David (Sandra) and Sean (Angela) Murray; Melissa Miller and Jack (Kelly) Murray; Joel (Karin), Justin, Brian (Angelique) and Michael DeLaney; along with several nieces and nephews. Mary was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. A devout Catholic, Mary was a life-long member of St. Patrick's Church. Stanley J. Banik, 86 of Elmira, N.Y., formerly of Wellsboro and Mansfield, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Theresa Naida Staight Banik; sons, Steve (Lisa), Michael (Mary Ann), Gregory, Mark C. (Jessica), Christopher (Shiva) Banik; daughters, Teresa (Michael) Capuzzo, Kathleen (Mohammad) Sanati; stepdaughter, Christine (David) Britton; stepsons, Harry "Skip" (Cathy), Daniel (Christine), Mark Staight; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by parents, Joseph and Blandyna Sady Banik; siblings, Mary Beaderman, Ann Boroch and John Banik. Stanley was a self-employed contractor/builder, former member of St. Stanislaus Parish, Blossburg and the Soaring Polka Association. He was a communicant of Christ the Redeemer Parish and a member of the White Eagle Club. Those wishing may attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 11 a.m., in St. Casimir's Church. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. FRANK A. BANKS,
92, retired Deputy Chief of the Elmira Fire Department passed away
peacefully on Thursday, March 14th, 2019. He was born on June 6, 1926 to
Frank W. Banks and Elizabeth McLaughlin Banks in Elmira, NY. Sibling were
Arthur Banks, Joan Fusare and Betty Smith. Frank was predeceased by his
loving wife, Helen Nitsche Banks in 2012; daughter-in-law, Mary Hughes
Banks; and son-in-law Dr. Leonard Hersh. Frank is survived by his children,
MaryBeth Hersh, Nancy Santobianco (Thomas), Mark Banks and William Banks.
Frank was known as "Grump" by his grandkids and great grandkids was deeply
loved by his grandchildren: David Hersh, Abe Hersh (Michelle), Jason
Santobianco (Amy), Christina Sowers (Matthew), Brandon Banks, Jessica Karius
(Brandon), Jennifer Burrell (Ryan), James Banks. Great grandchildren, Taylor
Hersh (Danielle), Molly, Patrick, Madilyn, Hudson, Elizabeth, Natalie,
Brezden, Eli, Katherine, Briar and Lincoln. Frank was a proud World War II
Navy Veteran. He attended Wanakena (Forestry) and Elmira College (Fire
Science). Frank loved to fish, hunt, boat and camp. He loved the Adirondacks
and Seneca Lake. Frank enjoyed helping at the family game room and was known
by many as "Pops". A special thank you to his son Mark who with his love and
loyalty honored his promise to keep Frank home as long as possible. Friends

Elmira: Age 75, died Sunday, September 1, 2013. Joe was born in Wallkill NY January 10, 1938, son of the late John J. and Marie (Votrey) Bannon. He is also predeceased by his son Joseph M. Bannon and sister Rita Ansett. Joe is survived by his wife of 49 years Jacquelyn Foody Bannon; son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Tracy Bannon, Watkins Glen, with their sons, Patrick and R.J.; granddaughter Karly Bannon, Elmira, with her mother Julie Bannon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and Wayne Sowers, Elmira, Mary and Merle Baylor, Florida; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Gladys Bannon, Horseheads; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Maureen and Dennis McKernan, Pine City; Michael Foody, Elmira; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He had been the owner of Kings Dairy on the Southside for many years. Joe also worked as a painter for Bottcher Painting. He was an avid Bingo player. BARCLAY Richard W "Scotty"
Elmira: Age 79, died unexpectedly at home on Friday, June 3, 2011. Scotty was born in Glasgow Scotland on August 3, 1931 a son of the late Richard and Eleanor (Ironside) Barclay. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Carozza Barclay in 1996. Scotty is survived by his son, Richard J. "Rick" Barclay of Elmira; son and daughter-in-law, Brian M. and Julie L. Barclay of Charlotte NC; grandchildren, Kerry, Joseph, Brian and Sarah Barclay, Jordan Hill and Patrick Brady; sister, Jean Barclay Cirulli, with John Paterson of Glasgow; aunt, Joyce Hill of Glasgow; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Julius and Kathleen Carozza of Elmira, Patricia and Robert Dwyer of Tampa FL; several nieces, nephews and friends. Scotty was a veteran of the British military. While serving in the military he was a boxer and soccer player. He went on to play soccer for the Springburn United FC. Scotty moved to the United States in the mid 1950's. He was a longtime sales manager for Elmira Tobacco Co. and later Queen City Liquor of Buffalo NY. Scotty was a member of the American Legion Bentley Post #443, the Queen Elks Club-Benjamin Street, the American Scottish Society, and a bass drum player for the Caledonian Highlanders Pipe Band. grandchildren including special granddaughter Hannah Affeldt; several

Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and enjoyed time with her family.

Age 80, formerly of 762 Thompson St. Southport, died Thursday December 20, 2012 in Big Flats following declining health. Born on July 16, 1932 in Elmira, Bob was the son of the late William Barnstead & Catherine Wrigley Lafferty. In service to his country, He was enlisted in the US Army from 1950 - 1954. Bob married Rose Marie Pavlina in 1958. He was employed by R.K.& B as an Industrial Buyer and Wells Supply until his retirement. A family man, Bob provided well for his family and cherished time spent with them. Surviving is his loving wife of 54 years, Rose Marie Pavlina Barnstead, Big Flats; their sons, Steven (Susan) Barnstead, Big Flats; and Robert (Cheryl) Barnstead, Newport News, VA; two grandchildren, Olivia and Liam; sister, Joyce Hickey, Amherst; several nieces, nephews and family friends. Age 77, of Grand Central Ave, Elmira Heights, NY, died Monday, January 19,
2009, at his home with his loving family by his side. Leon was born on July 30,
1931 in Pittston, PA to the late Victor and Helen (Pesta) Barone. Survivors
include his wife of 52 years, Wilma (Slater) Barone; sons, Albert Barone,

great-grandson, Damien. Leon was predeceased by his son, Steven Barone in 1967;

BARRETT Eugene J. Barrett, Sr., retired dairy farmer, of Marshview,
Towanda RD4, died
peacefully at home on the family farm, surrounded by his children and
grandchildren, on Sept. 11, 2010. Born Aug. 23, 1923, he was the son of
the late Patrick J. and Jane A. Barrett. He was a 1941 graduate of Towanda High
School and studied agriculture at Penn State University. On June 10, 1950 he
married the former Mary Grenell and together they operated the family farm and
raised seven children. Their 55 years of marriage ended with Mary's death in
2005. Gene was a lifelong member of SS Peter & Paul Church; a Third
Degree member of the Knights of Columbus; a charter member of the Rob Wood
Mountain Gun Club, holding various offices for 40 years; a member of the
Towanda Gun Club; and an active member of the Elks for many years. Gene
was a member and delegate for many years of Eastern Milk Producers and made
numerous trips to Washington, D.C. to advocate for fair milk prices. In
addition, he served for 12 years on the Bradford County Agricultural
Stabilization and Conservation Committee. An avid hunter and sports fan,
Gene rooted for Penn State, Notre Dame and Towanda football. Gene engaged in
all aspects of country life, hunting, snowmobiling and riding his ATV. He
enjoyed clambakes, good neighbors and get-togethers with friends and family,
possessing dear friends of many different generations. In addition to his wife,
Mary; he was predeceased by his brothers, George, Joseph and Anthony. He
is survived by his seven children, Mary Jane Barrett of Philadelphia, George
Barrett and his wife Carmela, of Ewing, N.J., Helen Barrett of Towanda, Jim
Barrett and his wife Cindy, of Towanda, Kathleen Corbett and her husband Kim,
of Towanda, Gene Barrett, Jr. and his wife Lori, of Towanda, and Jody Barrett
and his wife JeJe, of Towanda; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother, Pat and his wife, Betty; and
sisters-in-law, Rita Barrett and Alice Grenell. A viewing will be held
from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian

Lucy was born April 5, 1917, a daughter of Gerardo and Angelica DiPasquale
Bartholmew. She is predeceased by her son Richard C. Edgerly, sisters, Pauline
Peters, Nellie Capozzi, Bertha Capozzi, brothers, John and Daniel Bartholmew.
Lucy is survived by her daughter-in-law Dorothy Edgerly; grandchildren, Steven
Edgerly, Beth (Scott) Smith, and Mark Edgerly, all of Horseheads;
great-grandchildren, Jessica, Shelby, and Hannah Edgerly, Chad and Megan Smith;
sister Anita Hoy of Watkins Glen; along with several nieces and nephews. Lucy
was retired from Trayer Products after many years of service. She was a long
time communicant of St. Anthony's Church. She later attended St. Patrick's

BATEMAN Dr. John J. (Jack)
Ft. Pierce, FL: Dr. John J. (Jack) Bateman, Classics Professor emeritus, died March 6, 2011 in Fort Pierce, Florida. The oldest of three children, Jack was born February 17, 1931 in Elmira, New York to Joseph Earl and Etha Bateman. In 1952, he married Patricia Ann Hageman and they enjoyed 50 years of marriage before her death in October, 2002. Jack is survived by two daughters, Kristine B. Miranne (Rodney) of Detroit, Michigan, Kathleen Bateman (Bill James) Bateman of Champaign, Illinois and one son, John Eric Bateman (Laura) of Carterville, Illinois. Also surviving is Jack's sister Mary Ellen Miles of Elmira, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and Patricia Smith, his loving companion of the past several years. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia, his brother, Joseph Bateman, and a granddaughter, Rachel I. Coleman. A memorial mass will take place on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Church, Elmira. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. BECRAFT Joseph H. Age 75, of Horseheads, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Joe was born January 2, 1930, a son of the late Myron and Ann Davies Becraft. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Dolores Bernabei Becraft; children, with their spouses, Denise and Wayne Hooey of Elmira Heights, Jean Becraft of Elmira, Jacqueline and Rick Goodrich of Lowman, and Joseph and Julie Becraft of Elmira; grandchildren, Jason Becraft, Jeremy and Amanda Hooey, Richard James Woodward III, Eric and Ryan Goodrich, Joseph Becraft, Janet and Zack Jaynes; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and Tony Rubino of Towson, MD and Gertrude and Joe O'Beirne of Lady Lake, FL; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jeanette and Ralph Franchi of Big Flats, Marilyn and John Scheepsma of Elmira, and Lillian Becraft of Macon, GA; several great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. BEECHER, age 73, passed away unexpectedly at the Arnot Ogden Medical
Center on Monday, September 18, 2017. Tom was born in Elmira, son of the
late Charles N. and Dorothea (Tanner) Beecher. He is also predecased by his
sister Nancy Cleveland. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 53 years
Judith Essen Beecher; son and daughter-in-law Thomas Jr. and Sonya Beecher
of Howell MI with their children, Finnegan and Keagan; daughter Michelle
Beecher of Las Vegas NV with daughter Haley; sister Gail Beecher of Pine
City; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Raised in
Elmira, Tom was a 1963 graduate of Elmira Free Academy. He was a long time
electrician affiliated with the I.B.E.W. Local 139 for 50 years. He
currently was serving as president of the I.B.E.W. Retirees Club. Active in
the community Tom was a member and current board member of the John J. Lee
Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and was a member of the Friends
of the Chemung River Watershed, currently serving as its president. A
longimte communicant of St. Mary's Church, Elmira he was active in both the
Resurrection and Sunday choirs. Tom loved the outdoors…hunting, fishering,
kayaking with Judy, or just enjoying a nice walk. Never one to be idle he
had a garden with a homemade greenhouse, and looked forward to every Spring
when he would make maple syrup in his homemade sugarhouse. Tom also had a
home workshop for puttering in. Family and friends are invited to Tom's Mass
of Christian Burial on Saturday, September 23, 2017, 1:00 p.m., St. Mary's

BELIGOTTI - TUFILLARO, Julia F. Nee: Beligotti
Age 82, died Saturday, August 16, 2008, after a lengthy and courageous hospital
stay. She will be embraced by her loving husband, John, who preceded her in
death; along with her son, Anthony; grandson, Justin; four brothers and two
sisters. Julia grew up in Watkins Glen and resided in Elmira for the majority
of her life. She was a beautician, a restaurateur, and an integral part of
Elmira College's dining services for over a quarter century. She was a member
of the Sacred Heart Society and a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Church.
Julia's love for her family, concern for others and deep faith were her
trademarks. Julia was the cornerstone of her family's foundation, its matriarch
and guiding light. She is survived by her children, John Tufillaro of
Fleischmanns, NY, Theresa (Pelham) McClellan of Corning, NY, James (Lolly)
Tufillaro of Elmira NY, and Loretta (Vicie Rolling) Tufillaro of Big Flats, NY;

Long time resident of Southport passed away Tuesday February 6, 2001at St. Joseph's Hospital following a brief illness at the age of 89. Amelia was born on May 17, 1911 in Cortland, NY daughter of Luigi and Antoinette Serafino Bellardini. She was the loving wife of 60 years to Peter Scrocarelli who predeceased her in 1993. Amelia enjoyed being a housewife, cooking, caring for her family and preparing for the holidays. Surviving is her loving son and daughter-in-law, Francis and Joan Scrocarelli of Southport; sisters and brother-in-law, Katherine (Louie) Scala and Delores Pacentine; sisters-in-law, Matilda Ponzi and Ida Cornacchio; several nieces and nephews, including two dear nieces and friends, Denise Szymanski and Sheila Lowe. GUSH Ida Age 77, of Cornell Rd., Elmira, NY, died surrounded by her loving
family on Friday, April 7, 2006, at her home following a long illness. A
lifelong resident of Elmira, Ida was born August 3, 1928 to the late Frank and
Lillian Comfort Benjamin and later married her husband of 55 years, the late
Carl Gush, who predeceased her in 2004. She worked for many years as a teller
for Marine Midland and Chemung Canal Banks and, after retiring, spent nearly 15
years volunteering with the Arnot Ogden Auxiliary. Ida is survived by daughter,
Joan Gush at home; son, Richard (Pamela) Gush of Elmira; and grandchildren,
Lindsey and Andrew Gush. She is also survived by brothers, David (Theresa)
Benjamin of Elmira, George (Donna) Benjamin of Clearwater, FL; and sisters,
Donna Ripley of Elmira and Edna (Arnold) Zolbrecht of Binghamton; as well as
many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Ida was predeceased
by brother, Frank Benjamin, Jr.; and sisters, Rosetta Middaugh and Audrey DeFrees.

BENNETT born May 27, 1917 in Mount Jewett, PA to Florence and Gardner
Byron Bennett. Bud worked for Cook Upholstery of Elmira and De Joseph's
Upholstery of Corning. He retired as the owner of Bennett's Upholstery.
Predeceased by wife, Olive Bennett; daughter-in-law, Helen; brothers, Dutch,
George and Al; and sisters, Virginia and Evelyn. Survived by his three sons,

Elmira, NY, daughter of the late Willard and Sophia (Woods) Bennett and
passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016 unexpectedly. She was predeceased by
her brother, Willard Bennett and sister, Mary Prettyman and is survived by
her husband Freddie Lee Johnson; children Roland (Janet) Bennett of Elmira,
Farrah Johnson and Freddie Lee Johnson II both of Henrietta, NY, Chanee
Johnson of Atlanta, GA and Trina Johnson of Rochester, NY; grandchildren
Sean and David Johnson whom she raised, Kiimmell, Jordan and Jesseca; 9
great grandchildren; sisters Constance Bennett Williams of Elmira and
Lillian Bennett (Charles) Keith of Horseheads; sister-in-law Ann Bennett of

BENZ MILDRED K. A. MURTAUGH
Mildred K. A longtime resident of Hampton Circle in Elmira, Mildred died peacefully
Tuesday morning July 4, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital after a brief illness.
Born on December 18, 1913 in Syracuse, NY, Mildred was the daughter of William
& Clara Dietrich Benz. She was the loving wife of the late, Harry F.
Murtaugh. A homemaker, Mildred enjoyed crafts, gardening and cooking. She was a
long time communicant of St. Mary's Church. Surviving is her loving daughter
and son-in-law, Kathy & Scott Parsons, Millerton, PA and her two
grandchildren, Sara and Matthew Parsons. In honoring her wishes Mildred will be
cremated. A memorial Mass will take place in St. Mary's Franklin St. Church,
Elmira on Monday July 10, 2006 at 11 a.m. Interment of her ashes will take
place in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery, Elmira. Memorial donations may be directed

Age 79 of Elmira, NY. She was born February 25, 1931, daughter of the late
Atillio and Nicholina (Cinelli) Berardi. She died
Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at home. Josephine was a communicant of St.
Anthony's Church and a Sacred Heart Lady. She was predeceased by her husband

BERG John H.
Age 74 of Elmira, NY. He was born November 24, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY, to Philip and
Augusta (Zimmerlein) Berg and died Sunday, November 19, 2006, at home after a
brief illness. He was predeceased by his father, Philip; mother, Augusta
Zimmerlein Berg Murray; stepfather, Alfred Murray; and brother, William Berg.
John is survived by his wife, Phyllis Berg; son, Bill (Sue) Berg of Pine City;
stepsons, Jim (Donna) Dartt of Big Flats and Jack Dartt of Horseheads;
grandchildren, Jenna and Jason Berg both of Pine City and Brian Dartt of CA;
along with several cousins and his fishing buddies, Andy and Pops Schultz. John
was a former employee of the Star-Gazette and retired from Chemung County Dept.
of Buildings and Grounds. He was a communicant of St. Casimir's Church, a
veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving during the Korean Conflict; a member
of the White Eagles Club, the American Legion Post 154, Elmira Heights and a
member of the Chemung County Veterans Military Honors Squad. John worked with
handicapped Boy Scouts through the Heights Legion and was an avid fisherman.
Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake
St. at Washington Ave., Elmira, on Friday, November 24th, from 4 to 7 p.m. A
prayer service will follow at 7 p.m. Rev. Thomas O'Brien will officiate.

BERMINGHAM John J. Age 87, died at home, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, June 7, 2006. John was born August 28, 1918, a son of John and Helen Hurley Bermingham. He is predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Margaret Bermingham. John is survived by his wife Anne DeLauro Bermingham, who he married on September 24, 1956; son and daughter-in-law Patrick P. and Joy Bermingham of Elmira, with children Eileen, Jessica and Michael (Jenna), and daughter and son-in-law, Anne B. and Richard Nelan of Trenton, IL with children, Kevin and Katherine; great-grandchildren Ky and Alexus; along with several nieces and nephews. John was a peacetime draftee prior to WWII. He was due to be discharged in late December 1941, but after Pearl Harbor he stayed in the Army for the duration of the war. After being discharged from the Army John started a long career with the Elmira Fire Department. He retired in 1980 with 35 years of service. John was a life time member of the Elmira Elks Lodge #62, and a member of the American Legion Post #443 and the VFW Post #901. John was also a long time communicant of St. Patrick's Church. John enjoyed his summers at Keuka Lake with his wife Anne, and treasured the times he could spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. world and many friends. Predeceased by his parents: Delfino and Filomena
Campagna Bernabei; nephew, Riccardo "Rico" Perfetti; special friend,
Clara Sheldon. Ezio was born in Italy & came to the U S in 1961, was
communicant of Blessed Sacrament Parish and retired from Purlator. Special
thanks to everyone at Arnot-Ogden, Dialysis, ER, ICU, and the Doctors that
helped with his care. At his request there will be no Calling Hours but those
wishing may attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, January 27th in

Virginia C. (Bernas) Age 81, of Elmira, NY. She was born November 30, 1924 in
Elmira, daughter of the late Frank and Dora (Roherer) Bernas and died Monday,
October 9, 2006, at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband,
Nicolo A. Marino, Sr. in 1998; and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived
by her daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnne and Guy Zampatori of Rochester, NY,
MaryLou and Bob Blaine of Elmira; son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Catherine
Marino of Elmira; grandchildren, Guy, Jr. and Scott Zampatori, Jennifer and
Chuck Simpson, Samantha, Amanda and Bobby Blaine, Jessica and Nicole Marino;
great-grandchildren, Jeannette, Cassidy and Charles Simpson; sisters-in-law,
Dollie and Joyce Bernas, Connie and Florence Marino; brother-in-law, Joe Troccia,

Elmira: Age 83, died at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center Skilled Nursing Facility on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 after an extended illness. Jean was born in Buffalo NY on November 26, 1928, daughter of Joseph J. and Katherine (Lynch) Berrigan. She was married to Orlo W. Baker for 52 years before his death in 2009. Jean was also predeceased by her infant son Robert Baker. Jean is survived by son Daniel J. Baker with Rita Castillo of Pine City; daughter Jo-Ellen M. Weber of San Diego CA; grandchildren, Samantha and Danielle Weber, Eric, Justin, Shelly and Michael Castillo and Harrison Lewis; brothers-in-law, Joseph Baker of St. David PA and Paul Baker of Norfolk VA; sister-in-law Helen Louise Gee of Liverpool NY. "Nino" Manzo, Jr., Elmira, Mary Jo Cerqua and husband Frank, Baldwinsville, NY; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; sister Phyllis E. Cady, Pine City; sister-in-law Esther Hetherton, Myrtle Beach, SC; along with several nieces and nephews. Audrey was predeceased by her sister Virginia Hamilton and brother-in-law Harold "Bud" Cady. Age 72 of 126 Morrow St., Elmira, NY died Wednesday, September 5, 001 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents Leon and Myrtle and brother Lester. Jim was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He retired from F.M. Howell after 38 years of service, was a former member of the NYS Guard; a former Sgt. with the National Guard, Company B, 27th Division, 175th Armored Infantry and he was an avid bowler for many years. Elmira: Age 95, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. Helen was born in Waverly NY on August 21, 1916 daughter of John and Elizabeth (Malinoski) Bialy. She was the last surviving of six children. Helen was predeceased by her husband John K. Coughlin in 1971. She is survived by her daughter Anne M. Coughlin of Elmira; son Dennis F. Coughlin of San Diego CA; sons and daughters-in-law, John "Jack" M. and Alice Coughlin of Binghamton, William J. and Patricia Coughlin of Perkiomenville PA; grandchildren, Sean Coughlin, Erin (John) Precopio, Matthew (Danielle) Coughlin, Mary (Brian) Tizio and Eileen (T.J.) Kroboth; great grandchildren, Ashley, Emma, Liam, Grace, Vincent and Bevin; also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Helen was a founding member of St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary. She had volunteered at the hospital for 52 years with much of that time in the gift shop. She served on the Auxiliary board for many years and was also the chairman of "Busy Hands." 1919 in Elmira, NY, daughter of the late Michael and Magdaline (Oryshzyn)
Bilinski and died Friday, November 11, 2005, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center
after a short illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew, in 1985; and
is survived by her son, Andrew (Trudy Runyan) Kurchey of Long Island, NY;
daughter, Patricia (Larry) Hufschmid of Coral Springs, FL; grandchildren,
Michael, Susan and Angela, Theresa Aber-Faddis; along with several great-grandchildren.
Ann was a communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was a
hairdresser for many years, operating out of her home on Diven Avenue. A
memorial service will be announced at a late date. Interment will be in St.
Peter & Paul's Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Walter J. Kent

BIRD Aloysius J.
Age 74, of Elmira, NY, died on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at his home. Aloysius was born on May 28, 1937 in Lackawanna, NY, son of the late Joseph and Blanche (Sherant) Bird. Aloysius served our country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War and he retired from GE Foundry in Elmira after many years of service. Aloysius is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, John Sapnic, Ambrose and Chester Bird; great nephew, Alan Craley.
