These people were the local populace at a particular time. The people buried here knew each other, were neighbors, relatives and school mates. They attended church together and engaged in "trade" or business. All people are listed in alphabetic order by surname at BIRTH. Women identified by a married alias only and for whom a birth surname can not be identified, are listed on the last page for the cemetery's obituaries. FRANK A. TACOS, 41 of 205 W. 14th St., died at 2:05 a.m. Monday, Mar. 17, 1941. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alta Nichols Tacos. The body is in the Hilton and Lindgren Funeral Home where the funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Lennon Hakes officiating. TAYLOR
–MARIE L. MCINROY, age 94 was born October 16, 1922 in Elmira, NY the
daughter of the late William and Florence (Appleton) Taylor, passed away
peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
Her loving husband of 48 years, Robert W. McInroy Sr. preceded her in death
on October 19, 1991. She is survived by her beloved children: daughter,
Joyce A. (Ronald) Clark; son: Robert W. (Desiree Miller) McInroy Jr.;
grandchildren: Suzanne (Daniel) Pavlik, Michael Johnson, Jonathon (Teresa)
McInroy and Kyle Clark; great grandson: Zack (Stephanie) Pavlik; along with
several nieces and nephews. Marie was a member of the American Legion Ladies
Auxiliary in Horseheads. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Marie loved her animals, enjoyed knitting and was a diehard New York Yankee
fan. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home,
Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Saturday, September 16,
2017 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Funeral Services honoring her life will follow
the visitation at 2 pm. Reverend Leann Zeck will officiate. Interment will
take place at the convenience of her family in the Maple Grove Cemetery

TAYLOR - PACKARD
Janet E. (Taylor) Age 76, of Horseheads, died after a long illness on Wed.,
Jan. 17, 2007, at the Manor at Bethany Village. Janet was born Dec. 13, 1930 in
Sayre, PA, the daughter to the late Kenneth and Marian (Hoagland) Taylor. She
is survived by her husband of over 52 years, Clement Packard; daughter, Brenda
Packard; and son, Bruce Packard; sister, Judith (Hatch) Graham of Somerset, CA.
Janet was employed with the Corning City School District. Later she worked in
Day Care in Corning, and in Hobbiton Day Care and Big Flats Day Care, both in
Big Flats. In addition to her family, Janet also always loved to be with her
horses. Specials thanks to the many professional health care providers at
Bethany Village. Their warm and caring manner always made us feel at home. We
are grateful for the care you provided us. Family and friends are invited to
call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 So. Main St., Horseheads, today, Friday,
January 19, 2007, from 4-6:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, January 20, 2007,

TAYLOR –MRS. VIRGINIA T. GLEASON of Babcock Rd., Horseheads, NY, Tuesday, May 1988 at the Arnot Ogden Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Gleason was predeceased on November 20, 1984 by her husband, C. Herbert Gleason and is survived by her closet friends, George and Shirley Pribulick of Horseheads and their family. Virginia and her late husband were also very near and dear to many neighborhood children in the nearly 30 years that they resided in the Orchard Knoll Area. She was born in New York City, the only child of Albert and Helen Wayne Taylor where she was a former Executive Secretary for Bamberger’s Dept. Store. Mrs. Gleason was a member of the Lake St. Presbyterian Church, she was also an enthusiastic member of the Audobon Society and an ardent supporter of Tanglewood. Friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads Friday 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held there Saturday 10 a.m. The Rev. John B. McLaren will officiate. Committal service will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. TEETER
Alton Russell Age 75, of Matthews Circle, Horseheads, and most recently
residing with his son in Greenville, SC, died and Savior on Monday, May 30th,
2005. He was born April 18th, 1930 on his family's farm home in Lansing, NY. He
had two careers during his lifetime. He was employed by the Chemung County
Highway Department as a foreman and retired after many years of faithful
service. Alton also was a lifelong military man. He proudly served his country
by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 15. He served
during both WWII and the Korean War intermittently between the Marine Corps,
Army, and lastly the US Navy Reserves, where he retired from there in 1991.
Alton was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife, Gartha (Rodabaugh) Teeter
on July 27, 2002; his parents, Katherine (Carey) and Raymond Teeter; brothers,
Raymond Teeter Jr. and Richard Teeter. He is also survived by his loving son
David, with his wife, Cheri Teeter of Greenville, SC. Also surviving are
Gartha's children, William (Angela) Peters of Abilene, TX, Timothy Peters of
Horseheads, NY, Tammy Narde of Elmira, NY, Faye (Gregory) Overbey of Yorktown,
VA, Agnes Peters of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Leah (Thomas) Barker, Dustin
Teeter, Brandon Harris, Jodi Narde, Kendall Narde, Katie Overbey, Audrey
Peters, Eric Overbey; great-grandchildren Bailey, Claudia, Jack, and Maddox. He
is also survived by his brothers, Warren Teeter and Francis Teeter, both of
Ithaca, NY, and Kenneth (Delores) Teeter of Dryden, NY. Family and friends are
invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 So. Main St., Horseheads, on
Thursday, June 2, 2005 from 3-5:00 and 7-9:00 p.m. His service will take place
at the funeral home on Friday, June 3, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. with interment to
follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded.

TEETS Lynn E.
A resident of the Elmira community died Sunday morning, August 26, 2007 at home
with his loving family by his side at the age of 76. Lynn was born on February
26, 1931 in Olean, NY, son of Francis & Nettie Teets. He worked for Bonady
Brother's Food Market in Painted Post, NY as a store manager and later was
employed by the Association for the Blind after losing his eyesight in an
automobile accident. His interests included dancing and playing country music.
Proud to be an American, he was a member of the American Legion. Surviving is
his loving son and daughter-in-law, with whom he shared a special friendship
and who provided wonderful care, Joe & Sue Teets, Elmira; sons, William
Teets, Elmira; Steve & Carol Teets, Big Flats; Tim & Tammy Teets,
Elmira; daughters, Arlene Teets, Horseheads; Debra & Mark Catron, Elmira;
Donna Shesky & Steve Salick, WI; Paula Teets, Elmira; four sister's, Lola
& Ted Wheaton, Elmira; Pearl & Ray Clark, Waterloo, NY; Edna &

TENGSTRAND - ROE Jane E.
Age 86 of 3005 Watkins Road Horseheads, NY formerly of Bradenton, Florida died
on Saturday November 24, 2007. Jane was born June 30, 1921 in Kane,
Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Eric F. and Irene Strand Tengstrand. She
was a graduate of Upsala College and received her Master's Degree from Elmira
College. Jane was pre-deceased by her first husband Donald Walker. She was also
pre-deceased by her brother Eric Tengstrand and her sister Linnea (Mrs. Harold
"Rabbit") Dunbar. Jane married her second husband, Warren T. Roe, on
June 25, 1977 and they recently celebrated their 30th Wedding Anniversary on
June 25, 2007. Jane loved genealogy and tracing her family roots, reading, and
needlework. She enjoyed her Bible study and knitting for The Veterans' Home in
Florida. Mrs. Roe retired as a Reading Teacher with the Elmira City School
District. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi International, Retired Teachers
Association of the Elmira Area, The New York State United Teachers, and The
Ladies Auxiliary of The Veterans of Foreign Wars. Jane took great pride in the
fact that she was a member of The National Society Daughters of The American
Revolution. Jane loved her family and friends and treasured the time she spent
with them. Jane is survived by her loving and devoted husband Warren T. Roe;

TENNY Charles A. Age 54, of Horseheads, NY. He was born June 26, 1952 in Elmira, son of the late William and Florence (Baker) Tenny and died Monday, October 9, 2006, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center after an extended illness. He was predeceased by his parents; and sister, Joanne, and is survived by Elaine Tenny of Horseheads; companion, Terry Harris with her daughters, Brandy and Christy Harris, all of Trumansburg; daughters, Jody (Rob) Williams of Rochester, Kim (Jerry) of Horseheads, Kristy Tenny of Horseheads, and Charlie (Travis) Jenkins of Pine City; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Linda and Sharon; brothers, Bill, Jim, Dick, Harold and Harvey; along with several nieces, nephews and friends. Chuck was employed with Hardinge, Inc. for over 25 years. He was an avid Yankee, Buffalo Bills and NASCAR fan. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. TENNY Denine E.
Age 43 of Hammondsport, NY died on Tuesday January 29, 2008 very unexpectedly.
Denine was born November 11, 1964 in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of Darrell
and Dorothy West Tenny. Denine was a loving Mother, Daughter, Sister, and Aunt
who cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. She also enjoyed
crafts. Denine is survived by her loving daughters: Christiana Alteri and Lapis
Lazuli Alteri both of Farmington Hills, Michigan; her loving and devoted
parents: Darrell and Dorothy West Tenny of Horseheads, NY; brothers and

Age 91, of Elmira, NY, died on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Chemung County
Nursing Facility. She was born on February 20, 1918 in Sayre, PA to the late
Carl and Myra (Lawlor) Terry. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, James
Neufer in 1988. Survivors include her sons, Terry (Deannda) Neufer of Elmira,
Tom (Sue Ann Levine) Neufer of Fairfax Station, VA and Tim (Umkyng) Neufer of
Clearfield, UT; daughter, Trenna Neufer of Elmira; grandchildren, Tyce Spencer,
Tylan, Melissa, Eleanor and James Neufer and Becky Coughran; sister, Janice
Sylvester of Kissimmee, FL; along with several nieces and nephews. Family and

TERWILLIGER age 88 of Horseheads, NY passed away peacefully at home Jan.
25, 2017. He was born in Elmira Sept. 1, 1928 to Melvin and Frances
(Merrill) Terwilliger. Twig was predeceased by his wife, Marlene (Miller)
Terwilliger in 1997. He is survived son and daughters, Stephen (Regena)
Terwilliger of LaVerne TN, Marilyn (John) Mullen of Big Flats, NY, Carolyn
Patterson of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Stephen Baker, Cheyenne and
Tyler (Hannah) Koning, Marty Rafferty, Michael (Jennifer) Mullen and Craig
(Meghan) Mullen, Stephanie (Gonzalo) Galeano and Sara (Ian) Shilling; great
grandchildren, Nicholai, Sophia, Benjamin, Rosalie, Gavin, Shawn, Collin,

THAYER Dennis R.
Of Southport, NY died at his home on Wednesday July 18, 2001 with his loving family at his side following a battle with cancer at the age of 58. Dennis was born on May 12, 1943 son of Robert E. and M. Geraldine Whalen Thayer. He grew up in Elmira and graduated from Southside High School. Dennis served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he married Cola Lee Aikman on April 22, 1972. Dennis was employed for many years as a Cable Technician with the New York Telephone Co., retiring in 1995. He was a long time member of the Lake St. Presbyterian Church and a member of the church choir. Dennis enjoyed woodworking and was well known for his talents. Many hours were spent in his woodshop at home. He loved his home and the time he spent there with his cherished family. Surviving is his wife and friend, Cola L. Thayer; his sons, Brian and Jason Thayer also of Southport; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Fred Beaver of Southport; several aunts and uncles including, Shirley (Harold) Long of Pine City, NY; and Edna Taylor of Horseheads, NY along with several nieces and nephews. Dennis was predeceased by his mother, M. Geraldine in 1997, and his father, Robert in 1992, and his brother, David in 1999. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Friday July 20, 2001 from 2-4 and 6-8PM. THAYER Linda K. Beaver
Age 69, of Southport died on her 15th wedding anniversary, Sunday, October 6, 2013 following declining health. Born on September 15, 1944 in Elmira, Linda was the daughter of the late, Robert E. & Mary G. Whalen Thayer. Linda was formerly employed by AETNA Life Insurance Co. as a book keeper. She enjoyed bowling, caring for her home and family times. She was a vibrant person with a quick sense of humor. Surviving is her loving husband, Fred Beaver, Southport; son, Scott Dickerson; grandson, Steven Dickerson; sister-in-law, Cola Thayer, Southport; nephews, Brian (Stacy) Thayer and Jason Thayer. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Patricia Lyons, Walda Belle Cameron, Margaret Shunn, Linda Jameson and brother in law, Donald Beaver and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Linda was predeceased by her brothers, David and Dennis Thayer and her aunt, Shirley Long. THAYER - LONG, Shirley
died Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at St. Joseph's Hospital following an illness
at the age of 80. Born on June 19, 1927 in Elmira, Shirley was the daughter of
Francis E. & Edna Mae Olin Thayer. She married Harold B. Long on July 14,
1967 in Lowman, NY. Together they shared 34 wonderful years until his passing
in 2001. Shirley loved to spend time with her family, traveling and caring for
her home. She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church. She is
survived by her loving niece and caregiver Linda & Fred Beaver, Elmira;
sisters, Edna Evelyn Taylor, Horseheads; Betty Groom, N. Syracuse; and Nancy
Green, CA; a "little brother", Roy Thayer, FL; a daughter, Dianna
Marie Breese; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many family friends. In
addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was predeceased by her three
brothers, Robert, Edwin and Richard Thayer. Family and friends will be received

–DAWN M. RUGER age 78 of Horseheads, NY. She was born February 26, 1937 in
Elmira, daughter of the late Harold and Mildred (Smith) Theetge and went
home to heaven to be with her Lord on Monday, June 1, 2015 at Strong
Memorial Hospital, Rochester after a brief illness. She was predeceased by
her husband Richard in 2011and is survived by her children: Kathleen
(Harold) Langeland of Elmira, Karen (Kary) Erickson of Chemung, NY and
Richard Ruger of Horseheads; grandchildren Christopher and Melissa
Langeland, Candace (David) Cunningham, Richard Ruger, Jr., Daniel, Andrew
and Joshua Erickson; great grandchildren: Troy and Summer Cunningham;
brothers: Kenneth (Sherry) Theetge and Jeffrey (Karen) Theetge along with
several nieces and nephews. Dawn retired from Chemung Canal Trust Co. as
secretary to the President and was a member of Community Wesleyan Church in
Horseheads. Family and friends are invited to her Celebration of Life on

KENNETH H. ‘STUBBY’
THEETGE JR., of Cayuta, NY passed
away on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 after a courageous battle with Leukemia at
the age of 52. Kenny was born on April 12, 1963 in Elmira, NY, a son of
Kenneth and Sherry Comfort Theetge. He is predeceased by grandparents,
Harold and Mildred Theetge and William and Helen Comfort; father-in-law,
Ralph Reynolds; brothers-in-law, Rich Reynolds, Ralph "Skip" Beach; and
nephew, Shawn Beach. Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 34 years "on
the books," Sharon Reynolds Theetge; sons, Brandon and Nathan (Amanda Woods)
Theetge; "found sons," Kyle Weider and Jeremy Almon; his pride and joy
granddaughter, Abigail June; brothers, Norm (Linda) Theetge and Ryan (Sue)
Theetge; sisters, Gena (Jim) Benedict, Dianna Beach, Johnanna (Rich Morgan)
Theetge, and Paula (Steve Lyon) Theetge; brother-in-law and sister-in-law,
Tom (Sue) Radford, and Doug (Dawn) Reynolds; and several nieces, nephews,
cousins and a large and loving extended family. Kenny was a loving and
devoted family man who centered his life around his loving wife, family and
granddaughter. He worked for GST BOCES and previously as a heavy equipment

died peacefully in the home of her granddaughter Heather in Skaneateles, NY on September 7th, 2012. She had recently relocated from Millbrook, NY where her daughter Dianne took care of her for the past seven years. She was born in Elmira Heights, NY on January 5th, 1917, the only child of Alfred C. and Emma Scarborough Thomas. On June 30th, 1938 she married Howard L. Williams Sr. at Oakwood Methodist Church. He predeceased her in 1982, along with her great-grandson, Dante McNeil Mostachetti. She is survived by her sons Terry T. Williams (Muriel) of Harpersville, NY; Howard L. Williams, Jr. (Debi) of Warner Robbin, GA, and daughter Dianne A. McNeil of Millbrook, NY. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Robin McNeil Mostachetti, Jackie McNeil-Maddox (Cindy), Heather McNeil-Yeckel (Chris), Greg Williams, Howard Williams III and Tyrell Williams, along with her six great-grandchildren. Shirley was a devote Christian, loving mother, loyal friend, accomplished violinist, and artist, leaving a legacy of beautiful oil and water color paintings to her friends and family. In later years she downsized to painted greeting cards and bookmarks, all of which are cherished by her loved ones. She had a talent for story-telling and acted as the family historian. She graduated from Thomas A Edison High School, was a member of the Elmira-Horseheads Order of the Eastern Star along with the Chemung County DAR. Her family would like to thank Belinda, Dawn, Mirella and all the Hospice staff and volunteers who made her last 2 years as comfortable and pleasant as could be. Their loving care and concern for her was inspirational. Age 91 of Horseheads, NY Crossed Over on Thursday September 12, 2013 at home. Bethel was born September 19, 1921 in Hornell, NY the youngest daughter of the late Charles and Phebie Angel Thompson. She married her husband, Leslie B. Hamilton, on October 12, 1958 and he predeceased her on February 14, 2010. Bethel was also pre-deceased by her son-in-law Reginald "Reggie" Randolph on November 17, 2008, and her sister and brother-in-law Edna & Ben Phillips and all her brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Horseheads. Bethel retired from The A & P Tea Company in Horseheads where she was a produce clerk for many years. Mrs. Hamilton loved her family and friends and "Life on The Hill" and treasured every moment spent with them. Age 95, of Villia Serene Apts., in Elmira Heights, NY died Saturday May 29,
2010. Virginia was born on March 6, 1915 in Towanda, PA, daughter of the late
George and Bessie Mae (Furman) Thornton. Virginia worked for the Remington Rand
for 22 years and was also the manager for the Kings Dairy Bar on Southside for
many years. She was a longtime resident of South Avenue on Southside and was a
member of the Southport Senior Citizens Chapel Park. Virginia was predeceased
by her beloved husband, Merritt in 2005 after 64 years of marriage and
son-in-law, William Proper. Survivors include her daughter, Gloria Proper of
Elmira; son, Philip (Charlene) Craven of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Susan
Brown of SC, Debbie (Tom) Clinton of SC, William (Carrie) Proper of AZ, Donna
(Adam) Taylor of SC, Brian (Kelly) Craven of MD and Rebecca (Michael) Morris of
GA; great grandchildren, Alexis and Erica Clinton, Tiffany (Kevin) Sennett,
Rachael Brown, London Cooper and James Philip Morris; great-great

PAUL M. TICE
age 88 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Saturday December 24, 2016 at
Appleridge Senior Living Community in Horseheads , NY . From his birth in
Mainesburg, PA on March 3, 1928 to his death, he was an influence on many
people's lives as the Principal of Horseheads Junior High East for 20 years,
a husband, a father, a basketball coach, a WW II Veteran, a pinochle player,
a bowler, a golfer (longtime member of Soaring Eagles and Willow Creek Golf
Clubs) , and a longtime member of The First Presbyterian Church of
Horseheads. Paul was born on a farm near Mansfield, PA the son of the late
Philip and Mary Louise Palmer Tice. He was predeceased by his brothers:
Elmer and John Tice. Paul's mother died when he was ten and Paul has
siblings from his father Philip's second marriage: Nellie Zeis, Gerald Tice,
Elsie Wheeler and Barbara Snider. For his entire primary education, he went
to a single room school house and afterwards attended both Mansfield College
and Cornell University. Paul was a World War II Veteran serving his country
with The U.S. Army at the end of the WW II in the occupation of Japan where
his principle duty was running the camp newspaper. Paul married his wife,
Cynthia J. Dean Tice on June 25, 1958 in the chapel at Elmira College and
they lived their entire lives in the Horseheads/Elmira. Paul and Cynthia
loved the Southern Tier area and spent many pleasurable afternoons driving
to the Finger Lakes and Northern Pennsylvania areas. Cynthia predeceased
Paul on November 28, 1999 after 41 years of marriage. Paul will be
remembered as an educator who touched the lives of countless young people in
the Horseheads area. Paul loved his family and friends and treasured the
time he spent with them. Paul is survived by his loving and devoted
children: Judy Tice Van Norstrand and her husband Michael of Fairport, NY,
Paul Andrew "Andy" Tice and his wife Ann of Indianapolis, Indiana, Mike Tice
and his wife Fredda of Framingham, MA and Dan Tice and his wife Cheryl of

Age 81, and longtime resident of South Avenue in Horseheads, passed peacefully
on Sat. Jan. 31, 2009. Don was born October 28, 1927 in Elmira, New York, the
son of the late Grant and Grace (Arnold) Tifft. He was predeceased by his wife,
Dorothy Jeanne (Harris) Tifft in 2000; and is survived by his daughters,
Lizabeth England of Winchester, Virginia, Susan Stephens of New York, New York,
Laurie Ryan of Elmira Heights, New York, and Marcia (Bobby) Perry of Moore,
Oklahoma; grandchildren, Samuel Tifft England, Mary Grace Stephens, Danielle
Stephens, Erica Agan, Kristen Drake, Kellie Drake and Jerry Perry; great-grandchildren,
Kylie Agan and Cameron Woodward. Don worked for the New York State Department
of Corrections as a Corrections Officer from June 16, 1955 through May 26,
1983, when he retired from the Elmira Correctional Facility. Don was a 1946
graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School in Elmira Heights, where he proudly
played football for Coach Al Northrup. He was a member of the Horseheads BPO
Elks Lodge #2297 and as a retired Corrections Officer was active with the
retired group meeting regularly at Curly's Chicken House. Family and friends

passed away on Saturday, November 28th 2020 at the Elcor Health Services in
Horseheads, NY. Boyd was born in Elmira on April 2, 1925 son of the late
Boyd Sr. and Ada (Burlew) Titsworth. Boyd was also predeceased by his wives,
Norma (Stevens) and Mary (Allen) Titsworth. Boyd served our country in the
US Army during WWII and was a proud owner of Boyd & Norma's Superstore in
Big Flats, NY. Boyd was a lifelong fan of the NY Yankees and a wonderful
husband, father and grandfather. Boyd is survived by his daughters, Linda
(William) Peters, Connie Smith, Doris Cullen and Tammy (Larry) Beck; son,
Denny Titsworth; special step-daughter, Jeanette, along with 11

Age 92 of Horseheads, NY died on Wednesday January 2, 2008 at home. Mr.
Tompkins was born August 27, 1915 in the Town of Veteran the son of the late
Herbert and Helen Frost Tompkins. Bob was a graduate of Horseheads High School
where he played basketball and wore the number 4 on his basketball jersey. He
married his wife Louise Jane Roller Tompkins on July 29, 1939 and she
pre-deceased him on October 10, 2001. Bob was an active and devoted member of
The Elmwood Avenue Baptist Church in Elmira Heights, NY. Mr. Tompkins was a
retired draftsman with American Bridge Works / U.S. Steel in Elmira Heights, NY
with 43 years of dedicated service. He loved trains, photography, basketball,
and "Big Band" music. Bob loved his family and friends and cherished
the time he spent with them. Bob is survived by his loving daughter and

TOWSLEY, age 53 of Horseheads, NY
passed away at home on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, after an extended illness.
Charlie was born on July 8, 1961, in Elmira, NY, to Floyd E. Towsley, Sr.
and the late Gayle (Goodwin) Towsley. In addition to his beloved mother, he
was also predeceased by his siblings, Diana Towsley, Faith Towsley, Floyd E.
"Gene" Towsley, Jr.; paternal grandparents, Frank and Flossie Towsley and
maternal grandparents, Coran and Belva Goodwin. Charlie is survived by his
adoring family, father, Floyd E. Towsley, Sr.; sisters, Constance "Connie"
(Shawn) Barrett and Hope Towsley; niece, Anna Mae Knights; nephew, Brandon
Knights, all of Horseheads, NY; uncle, Ray Towsley of Phelps, NY; many
cousins; and very special feline companion, Prince. Charlie loved spending
his time outside swinging his baseball bat and waving to the fire trucks as
they drove by blowing the horn for him. Charlie was an avid sports fan and
truly enjoyed the little things in life. He attended Pathways, Inc. for many
years and assisted with Meals on Wheels deliveries. Family and friends are

SR. age 88 of Horseheads, passed away Thurs., Jan, 7, 2016. Floyd was
predeceased by his loving wife, Gayle; parents, Flossie and Stephen Frank
Towsley; brothers, Leo and Steven Towsley; children, Diana, Faith, Floyd,
Jr., and Charlie; Floyd is survived by daughters, Connie (Shawn) Barrett and
Hope Towsley; grandchildren, Anna Mae and Brandon Knights; brother, Ray
Towsley; nieces, nephews, and companions, Prince and Patches. Floyd
honorably served in the US Marine Corp during WWII and also owned Towsley's
Florist for several years. He retired as a mail carrier from the USPS in
Horseheads, was a door greeter at Walmart for over 5 years and
transportation specialist for Peter Koch. He was also a former member of the

Age 83, formerly of Horseheads, NY, died Monday, June 18, 2007, at her daughter's
home in Lima, OH. Louise was born on September 13, 1923 in Noxen, PA, daughter
of the late Ashley and Mabel (Miller) Traver. Louise married Carlton Pickett on
June 2, 1942. She was a school bus driver for the Horseheads School District
for 25 years, along with being a homemaker. Louise and Carlton moved to Port
Charlotte, FL, after retirement. She was a longtime member of Tri-City Baptist
Church in Charlotte. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol (William) Costello of Lima, OH; son,
Roger (Edie) Pickett of Port Charlotte, FL; six grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren; sister, Marian Saxor of Elmira, NY. Louise was predeceased
by her husband, Carlton in 2003. Family and friends are invited to call

Monday, June 26, 2000 at the Lakeside Nursing Home in Ithaca, NY. Born May 28,
1910 in Milo Center, NY, a daughter to Wallace and Lina (Eaves) Travis.
She was the wife of the late Floyd Guthrie who formerly lived in
Horseheads and Big Flats, NY. Retiring in 1978, Louise worked as a cook, at
former Odd Fellow Home on Trumansburg Rd., for many years. Louise is survived
by two daughters, Clara Bennett of Enfield and Ruth Pintler of Newfield; 22
grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral
services will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2000 at 10:00 AM at the Covert
Funeral Homes, 9 Washington St., Trumansburg, NY with Pastor Scott Moseley, of

age 84, of Bradenton, FL, died Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Blake Hospital in Bradenton. Mrs. Browning was born in Deerfield Township, PA, on April 22, 1927, the daughter of the late Bert and Minnie (Keeney) Treat. Roselyn was predeceased by her husband, George "Jack" Browning in 2002; parents, Bert and Minnie Treat; sisters, Beulah Fleet and Nellie Neally; and her brother, Basil Treat. Roselyn graduated from RBI in 1945 and worked as a medical secretary for many years in Elmira. She was a fantastic seamstress and she loved going to the beach, playing golf, and spending time with family and friends. Age 81, of Horseheads, NY, died on Thursday, May 21, 2009. Roger was born
November 18, 1927 in Elmira, NY, a son of the late Claude and Edith Goodrich
Tucker. He served his country honorably during WWII with the US Army. Roger
married his wife, Margaret Gordon Tucker on June 20, 1948. Roger retired from
Shepard Niles in Montour Falls. Roger was a charter member of the Horseheads
BPOE and a 50-year member of the Horseheads Presbyterian Church in Horseheads.
He also belonged to the SS Gold Card Club and enjoyed monthly lunches with his
wife's graduation class. He has many wonderful friends and neighbors and
enjoyed gardening and raising beautiful dahlias. He is predeceased by his son,
Mark in 1990; brother, Robert; and sisters, Doris Brown and Jacqueline Slater.
Roger is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret (Peggy); three daughters,
Kathleen Tucker of England, Shelley (David) MacFeiggan of Corning, NY and Lori
Avery of Delray Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Sean MacFeiggan, Shannon

Age 77, of Breesport, NY, died peacefully at home with his loved ones on Friday
morning, June 5, 2009. Bud was born June 25, 1931 in Elmira, son of the late
Linford and Lela Chapman Turner. He worked as a contractor with Harold Dilmore
Contracting in Big Flats and in his early days worked at Hibbards Hardware in
Hanover Square. Bud served his country honorably with the US Army and was a
member of the Elmira Heights American Legion Clarence Oliver Post No. 154 in
Elmira Heights. Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, Penny Parrow
Turner; son, Steven (Susan) Turner and grandson, Michael of San Diego, CA; and
daughter, Sheree Lynn Coolbaugh and grandson, Joseph of Horseheads, NY;

morning, January 5, 2015. Jane was born on April 25, 1942, a daughter of the
late Winston and Martha Moore Tuthill. She was a graduate of SUNY Cortland
earning a teacher's degree. There she met her husband, George, who
predeceased her in 1995. She is also predeceased by her sister, Nancy
Sigler. Jane is survived by her loving sons, George "Rusty" (Heather)
Cowburn of Cazenovia, NY and Matthew (Rebecca) Cowburn of Ithaca, NY;
grandchildren, Sophia, Zane and Natalie; sister, Carla Reed of AZ; brother,
Thomas Doane of AL; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jane enjoyed
traveling, volunteering and attending live theatre. She mostly enjoyed her

Age 79, of Horseheads, NY, died on Wed. April 11, 2007, at the Arnot Odgen
Medical Center. Don was born in Towanda, PA, on January 14, 1928. He was
predeceased by his wife, Beulah (Platt) Tuttle on March 7, 1974. His surviving
family includes his daughters and sons-in-law, Helena (Chuck) Schnautz of
Horseheads, NY, Lois (Philip) Castronova of Fullerton, CA; granddaughter and
sparkle in his eye, Lauren Schnautz of Horseheads, NY; brothers and sisters,
Marguerite Eldred of Bentley Creek, PA, Martha Burke of Durrell, PA, Richard
Tuttle of Mecklenburg, NY, Jean Ackley of Ulster, PA; special friends, Jim
Labuski and Jim Marks. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Patricia Darby
and Edith Mitchell. He was the owner and operator of Don's Landscaping in
Horseheads. Don was also a veteran of the US Navy and lifetime member of the
Horseheads American Legion Post #442. Don was a craftsman and woodworker. He
enjoyed hunting, fishing and always enjoyed taking the scenic route when

Newfield, Lawrence (Claudia) Stamp of Owego and Gwendolyn (Patrick) Centro of
Dryden; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two
great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Private services will be held at
the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery,

BRADLEY VAN BENCOTEN
Bradley Van Bencoten, 43, custodian of the Horseheads Village Hall and driver
of the fire truck in that village, died Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the family
apartment in the village hall. Mr. Van Bencoten at 11 a.m. indulged in a
friendly scuffle with a friend in the fire station. During the scuffle he
suffered a rupture of the muscles of the heart, and died at 5 p.m. Mr. Van
Bencoten is survived by his widow, four daughters, Mrs. Marge Van Kuren, the
Misses Mary, Frances and Loraine; two sons, Thomas and Jerome; a granddaughter,
all at home; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Ernst of Chagrin Falls, O.; Mrs. Earl
Rinerson of Gillett, Pa.; a brother Loren of Seeley Creek. The remains repose
in the Chilson and Shields funeral home at Horseheads and will be removed to
the family apartment this evening. The funeral will be held at the apartment
Saturday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Mr. Guiles of the M. E. Church, Millerton, Pa.,

Age 81 of Elmira, NY died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. He was predeceased by 8 siblings and is survived by his wife Joan; children Philip (Deb) Van Cise and Gail (Bruce) Williams of Elmira, Melvin (Heather) Williams of Corning, Renee Hall of FL, Donald (Deb) Waters of Lockwood and Dawn Morgan of Allentown, PA; sisters Doris Thomas of FL and Ruth Bennett of MI; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; lifetime friend Harold Dean. –DORIS V. THOMAS, 86 of Brooksville, FL, formerly of Horseheads, NY joined
her husband Leslie on December 6, 2014, as she has missed him for the last
14 years. Doris was born in Corning, NY on June 24, 1928 to the late Bert R.
and Lulu J. VanCise. Doris married her husband Leslie O. Thomas on October
23, 1948 and he predeceased her on February 17, 2000 and was also
predeceased by all of her nine siblings and Leslie's siblings. She is
survived by daughter, Patricia Loesch, of Brooksville, FL; sons and
daughters-in-law James and Patricia Thomas, of Horseheads, NY, Gregory and
Carol Thomas, of Cayuta, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Ronald Paugh,
of Cocoa, FL; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren;
brother-in-law, Richard Bennett of Pontiac, MI; and sister-in-law, Joan
VanCise of Elmira Heights, NY. She also had many nieces and nephews who
fondly called her Uncle Dorrie as she didn't care for being called Aunt. She
took in foster children for over 30 years having over 120 children providing
them with a better life. And after moving to Florida, she cared for a couple
lovely boys, Aidan and Keegan who adored her. She cared for them until she
was 85. She retired from Bendix Corporation in Elmira Heights, NY, and also
worked at Remington Rand, Elcor Nursing Home and Buckley Nylok. In addition
she volunteered with Hospice of Hernando County, FL for 12 years. Burial
will be at a later date at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads, NY, at
the convenience of the family with a party to follow as ordered. As we all

–THEODORA ‘TEDDY’ WILCOX (nee Van Tassell), 93, of Horseheads NY, died
peacefully on Nov. 12, 2018 at Family of Caring Nursing home in Montclair,
NJ. She was surrounded by her close family in the days leading up to her
passing. Teddy was born in Dansville, NY and grew up in Wayland,
NY. As a young woman Teddy worked at the Guaranty Trust Co. in New
York City. She loved her years in the city. After her marriage to Maurice
Wilcox, she moved to Horseheads NY, where she lived most of her adult life.
That is where she raised her 2 daughters, having been widowed in 1955. She
was employed as a secretary by the Police Department in Horseheads. She
loved living in the Finger Lakes region and was a great ambassador for the
area wherever she traveled - whether to NJ with her daughters or seeing the
world with her niece. She also loved vacationing with her family in Hilton
Head SC - biking, swimming and walking the beach well into her 80's. Teddy
was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Horseheads, which along
with her family, was the center of her life for many years. Teddy was a
loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was predeceased by her
husband Maurice Wilcox in 1955, her parents William and Edith Van Tassell,
her sisters Ruth Dougherty and Dorothy Shatzel and her brother James Van
Tassell . She is survived by her 2 daughters, Linda Seyffarth with her
husband Tom Agnew, Sharon with her husband Joseph Yacura and her 4 beloved
granddaughters Kristin, Lindsay, Danielle and Kelsey. She will also be
missed by her 5 great grandchildren William, Brendan, Griffin, Alexa and
Audrey and by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held in
Horseheads NY on April 6, at the First United Methodist Church followed by

Lifelong resident of Horseheads, NY died unexpectedly due to complication of heart surgery on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at the age of 81. Larry was born on September 11, 1930 a son of the late William and Anna Kocourek Vaughan. He served his country honorably with the US Army, was a member of the American Legion, Horseheads Elks Lodge #2297 and worked for several years at Elmira Chrysler-Plymouth in Elmira. Larry was also very active in Horseheads Cinderella Softball. He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly Doner Vaughan; two sisters, Agnes and Mary; and brother, Cliff. Surviving Larry is his daughter, Vickie (Steven) Wood; grandchildren, Jamie (Josh) Menchaca, Ashley (Rocky) Thomas and Andrew Wood; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Anna and Lizzy; brother, Billy Vaughan; sister, Frannie (Dick) Daley; special niece, Mary Mack; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Age 80, died on Saturday October 2, 2010 after an extended illness. Joe was
born August 21, 1930 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Frank and Christina
Ippolito Vazzana. He was a veteran of The Korean War serving his country with
The U.S. Air Force and member of The Italian American War Veterans in Elmira,
NY. Joe married his wife Sarah J."Sally" Mullen Tarr on September 26,
1970 and they recently celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary. He was a coach
for Babe Ruth Baseball for several years and a member of The Southside High
School Boosters' Club. Joe was pre-deceased by his parents, his daughter-in-law
Terry Plate Tarr on November 11, 2003, his brothers and sisters Anthony
"Tony" Vazzana, Raymond Vazzana, Ann Vazzana (Mrs. Joseph) Palmieri,
Helen (Mrs. Frank) Krystof and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Joseph
Palmieri, Frank Krystof, Warren Richards, Harold "Hal" True, Bob
Krasik, Patricia Mullen Koenderman and James Koenderman. Joe loved his family
and friends and enjoyed playing Bocce Ball and was the chairman of The Italian
American War Veterans Festival for several years. Mr. Vazzana attended The
University of Dayton prior to entering The U.S. Air Force. He was a retired
traffic manager for MacMillan-Bloedel Containers in Elmira Heights, NY and
worked part-time at The Chemung County Solid Waste Department and served on The
Chemung County Board of Elections for several years. Joe also served The
Italian American War Veterans faithfully over the years as The
Secretary/Adjunctant, Vice Commander, and member of the Board of Directors. Joe
is survived by his loving and devoted wife Sarah "Sally" Vazzana;

–SHEILA M. DONER - Long time resident of Horseheads, passed away peacefully
at her home on Friday evening, October 30, 2015 at the age of 69. Sheila was
born February 10, 1946 in Binghamton, NY a daughter of the late Richard and
Helen Gage Villeneuve. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Patricia Neville
and her canine companion, Peanut. She was a loving mother that loved
spending time with her family and grandchildren as well as volunteering many
hours at the Horseheads American Legion. Sheila is survived by her loving
and devoted husband of 43 years, Clarence J. Doner; sons, Joseph (Kimberly)
Doner, John (Kristie) Doner and Michael (Bonnie) Doner; grandchildren,
Cullen, Summer, Paige, Chase, Morgan, Tyler, and Gwen; siblings, Jeannette
(Don) Eiklor, Helen Villeneuve, Denise Louizos, Bertha Mae (BJ) Pritchett,
Cheryl (Rocky) Savino and Richard Villeneuve; Aunt Shirley (Randy) Crounse
and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will welcome relatives
and friends to Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St. at Rt. 13,
Horseheads, NY on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 5-7PM with services to

VILTRAKIS William A. Age 86, of Old Ithaca Rd., Horseheads, died after a brief illness Sunday, December 18, 2005, at the Auburn Memorial Hospital in Auburn, NY. Married September 24, 1949, Bill was predeceased by his wife of nearly 56 years, Helen (Utter) Viltrakis earlier this year, April 2, 2005; and their son, Kenneth, in 1992. Bill is survived by a daughter-in-law, Kristie Viltrakis of Moravia, NY; granddaughter, Alicia Viltrakis; brothers, Anthony (Yuanita) Viltrakis of Lompoc, CA, Joseph (Doris) Viltrakis of Syracuse, NY; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ralph and Marjorie Utter of Locke, NY; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marian and Adolph Steger of Harford, NY, Bernice and Charles Whiteman of Locke, NY, Norma Utter of Cortland, NY; along with several nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Also predeceasing were his brothers, Frank and John Viltrakis. Bill was born July 19, 1919 on Bellshill, Scotland to Joseph and Elizabeth Viltrakis. Emigrating to Pennsylvania at the age of two, Bill was later employed with GLF and Agway in Moravia and later for various stores in PA, where he was their bookkeeper and manager of farm supplies. In 1981 he retired from Westinghouse Corp as the production control coordinator. Bill was a life member of the Horseheads Elks Club. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Together with his wife, they also enjoyed traveling the country and being members of the Soaring Polka Society in Elmira. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 So. Main St., Horseheads, on Wednesday, December 21, 2005, from 12 Noon to 2 p.m., where his service will be celebrated at the funeral home at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Roe officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
VITUKEVIC David R. Age 64 of 74 Smith Road Pine Valley, NY died on Thursday November 23, 2006. David was born August 14, 1942 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Alex and Nina K. David Vitukevic. He was a communicant of St. Peter & Paul's Church in Elmira, NY and the church choir. David loved his family and friends and enjoyed bowling. He was an employee of Southern Tier Industries in Elmira, NY. Age 75, a life long resident and business man, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999 at
his home in Horseheads, NY., attended by his family and friends. Born November
24, 1923, the son of Manley B. and Jennie L. Butcher Voorhees. He was well
known for his long service at the Remington Rand and as owner and operator of
America’s Southern Tier Tree Service. He was a member of the Seventh Day
Adventist Church, Elmira, NY. Mr. Voorhees is survived by his eldest son, Floyd
R. Voorhees, Sr., of Lowman, NY; son, James W. and Kathy Voorhees,Sr., of
Lowman, NY; son Allen G. and Sherry Warner of Sayre, Pa; daughter, Nancy L.
Voorhees of Horseheads; brothers, Elwood C. Voorhees of Coryland, Pa, and
Manley B. Voorhees, Jr. of Bentley Creek, Pa; sisters, Marilyn and Lee Sheive
of Kissimee, Fl. And Patricia Lentz of Bolivar, Pa; brother-in-law, Warren
Smith of Florida; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and

James Warren Voorhees Jr., 41, of Granbury, Texas, died on October 23, 2007. He
was born in Elmira, New York on June 16, 1966. He is survived by his parents, Jim
Sr. and Kathy Voorhees of Elmira, NY, Patsy Lee and Leonard Hadix of Granbury,
Texas; grandparents, Clara Bell and Walt Connis of Horseheads, NY, Charles
Ferguson of Elmira, NY, and Eleanor Snyder of Elmira, NY; brothers and sisters,
Christine Foster of Granbury, TX, Sandra Crist and husband, Monty of Lakeside,
CA, Richard Voorhees and wife, Lori, Nichole Voorhees, Christopher Fierro, Jack

KENNETH B. VOORHEES age of Horseheads, NY,
passed away on September 14, 2020 at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in
Sayre, PA. He was born on December 7, 1935 in Corning, NY, the oldest of
eight children to Howard and Anna (Kahler) Voorhees. As a young man, Ken was
active in the local community. From a young age he was a member of the Big
Flats 4-H and in 1951 and 1953 he was one of two to represent the 4-H groups
of Chemung County at the State Fair. He later served as a 4-H leader of the
Tractor Club until 1963. He was appointed master of the Big Flats Grange in
1955 and was on the Big Flats Community Days planning committee during this
time. He graduated from Corning Northside High School in 1953 and went on to
serve in the Army Reserves from 1958 to 1962, training at Fort Dix, NJ as a
specialist in the automotive maintenance division. In the 1960s he worked
for E. R. Wolcott Inc. as a machine operator and went on to work at
Dalrymple Gravel & Contracting for over twenty-five years before retiring in
1998. During the 1970s and 1980s he also worked part-time for Hessleson's
installing pool tables and above ground swimming pools. After his
retirement, Ken spent a majority of his time in the garage working on his
Cub Cadet lawnmowers. Everyone in the community knew that if they needed
repairs on their lawnmowers, they knew that Ken was the man. Ken was a
resident of Horseheads for sixty years, proudly living in the home that he
built himself. Ken is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gail; his sons,
Douglas Voorhees of Waterbury, CT; Jeffery Voorhees of Highland, NY; and
daughter, Debra (Brad) Kapral of Horseheads; daughter-in-law, Lauren
Voorhees of Walden, NY; grandchildren, Rachel Voorhees of Jersey City, NJ;
Megan Kapral of Charlotte, NC; and Matthew Voorhees of Walden, NY; as well
as his siblings, Anna Russ of Big Flats, Meredith (Judy) Voorhees of Elmira,
Evelyn (Mack) Rhodes of Horseheads, Edith (Dave) Reese of Pine City, Mary
(Bob) Plumley of Raleigh, NC, and Donald (Kay) Voorhees of Horseheads; and
several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his
brother John. Family and friends are invited to call at Barber Funeral Home,
413 S. Main St., Horseheads, on Saturday, September 19th from 11:00am-1:00
pm. His service will follow at 1:00pm with family friend, Rev. Paul Mattison
officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. -Elmira
