VALGEO –FLORENCE H. HANLEY age 94, formerly of Horseheads, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 in Orlando FL. Florence was born in Elmira Heights, a daughter of Leo and Dora (Miller) Valgeo. She is predeceased by her husband Richard Hanley, twin brothers Leo and Louis Valgeo, brother John Valgeo, sisters, Catherine Folmar, Mary Valgeo, and great-grandson Nicholas Pappas. Florence is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Judith A. and Thomas Burdick of Orlando FL; twin sister Frances Baker of Elmira; sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Cyril Kochanevich of Wesley Chapel FL; grandchildren, Thomas P. Burdick of Madison WI, Karen (Thomas) Mahoney of Pipersville PA; great-grandchildren, Kristina (Octavio) Spurio of Eagleville PA and Alissa Sullivan of Stoughton WI; 5 great-great grandchildren; 4 great step grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews. Florence was a long time resident of Horseheads prior to moving to Orlando to be closer to her daughter. While in Horseheads she worked at Westinghouse, retiring from there after many years of service. Florence was a long time communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Elmira. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 a.m., St. Patrick's Church, Elmira. VANAMBURG
Jesse G. A longtime resident of Southport went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday evening, May 14, 2006 at his home in the care of his loving family following an illness at the age of 85. Born on December 18, 1920 in Horseheads, Jesse was the son of Jesse G. & Florence Dilmore VanAmburg. He was a loving husband and companion to Rena Mae Rickner for over 62 years. Together they raised a loving and Christian family who cherish his memory, his children, Roy VanAmburg, Campbell; Patricia & Roger Pollen, Elmira; and Eileen & David Batrony, Southport; four grandchildren, James (Colleen) Pollen; Kathy Pollen, Jeffery Ripley Jr. and Jessica Batrony; two great grandchildren, Kyle and Darren Pollen; brothers, Raymond VanAmburg and George Blanchard, both of Horseheads; along with several nieces and nephews. Jesse was predeceased by is daughter-in-law, Donna VanAmburg on June 30, 2003; his brother, Robert VanAmburg and his sisters, Lillian McCarthy and Zella Tidwell. He served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corps. He was employed for many years by American LaFrance and also by A&P Foods. In serving the Lord he was a long time member of the Elmira Christian Center. He found great enjoyment while fishing at his family's cottage on Lamoka Lake. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport this evening, Tuesday May 16, 2006 between the hours of 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will take place at Caywood's following the visitation at 8:15 p.m. with the Reverend Belvy White officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Elmira, NY at his families' convenience. VANDERMARK –FRANCES FIELD age 83 of Elmira, NY, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Elderwood at Waverly. Frances was born on July 31, 1934 in W. Pittston, PA, the youngest of 8 children born to Arthur N. and Edith M. (VanHorn) Vandermark. She married Lynn T. Field, Sr. in 1953 and they had 55 wonderful years together before his passing in 2008. In addition to her parents and husband, Frances was predeceased by her brothers Arthur, Theodore and Walter Vandermark; sisters Marsella, Edith, Mary and Ruth; 2 grandsons and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her 2 sons and daughters-in-law Craig and Deborah Field, Lynn, Jr. and Lisa Field; grandchildren and great grandchildren. Frances was employed with Thatcher Glass and Nichols Discount prior to retirement. She and her husband enjoyed spending winters in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. Frances was known for her great sense of humor. She had a special place in the hearts of all who knew her. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Wednesday, May 16th from 10 to 11 am. Her funeral service will follow at 11 am. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Forest Lawn Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. Frances spent her final 15 months at Elderwood at Waverly. Of Elmira, NY - Age 45, born July 2, 1964, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at home. William was predeceased by parents, Richard and Elizabeth (Andrus) Vanderpool Sr.; and dearest grandmother, Dortha Andrus. He is survived by Melissa Nigro, fiancée and special friend; brothers, Richard and Edward; sister, Polly Ann; along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews; beloved pets, Mirabelha, his dog; Buddy, his cat. He is also survived by the church congregation and many friends at Hope Baptist Chapel which he attended fervently, also numerous friends and colleagues at Capabilities, Inc. where he worked. Evelyn Of Elmira, NY Was born April 10, 1912 in Towanda, PA, the daughter of the late Jessie and Nellie (McNeal) Vanders, died peacefully on Monday, February 26, 2007, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility, where she received the utmost love and care. Her beloved daughter, Ervilla Holton predeceased her. She is survived by her loving son, LaVerne Brown of Elmira Heights, NY; much loved grandchildren, Clifford Brown, Michelle (Don) Shipley, Michael (Tina) Brown and Tracey (Chris) Pearson; along with several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Evelyn was a faithful volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital for many dedicated years. VanNATTA Edna Banfield

On Wednesday afternoon, April 27, 2011 at her home in West Melbourne, Florida, our precious mother, Edna Banfield, passed from her family's loving arms into our Lord's where she was welcomed by loved ones that had gone before her. Edna was born on October 8, 1914 to Frank and Bernice Vose Van Natta. Prior to her marriage she worked as a secretary at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward G. Galpin in 1971; and by her second husband, George Banfield in 1997. Also preceding her was her sister, Ruth Bingham; and brother Robert Van Natta. Originally from the Elmira area, she had lived in West Melbourne since 1971 but spent summers in Horseheads through 1996. Surviving to cherish her memory are her 4 children: Kathryn (Stanley) Hurley of West Melbourne, FL, Carolyn (William) Barton of Horseheads and West Melbourne, FL, Robert (Michele) Galpin of Elmira, and Susan (Dennis) Wicklund of West Melbourne, FL. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; her 3 precious kitties, Tyler, Tippy, and Sweetie; and her sister-in-law, Vivian Marchase of Heath, OH. Edna first enjoyed and took pride in her family, then in playing cards (especially Bridge), Bingo, crossword puzzles and NASCAR. Arrangements are through Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads. No visitation hours are planned. Funeral services will be held at Lake Street Presbyterian Church, 300 Lake Street, Elmira, NY, where she had been a member for over 50 years, on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery on Jerusalem Hill Road, Elmira. VanSCHOICK GRABOWSKI
Sharon died on Sunday evening October 7, 2001 at her home in Elmira Heights, NY in the care of her loving family and friends following a lengthy battle with cancer at the age of 44. Born on December 12, 1957 in Elmira, NY, Sharon was the daughter of Gerald and Patricia Verguson VanSchoick. She married Thomas Grabowski on August 29, 1981. Sharon was a long time member of the Northside Community Evangelical Church where she was an active member, Chairperson of Christian Education and Sunday School Superintendent. She taught in the Ladies Adult Class and was involved in many other church functions. Sharon cherished the time she spent with her husband and daughter, with her family and friends, her devoted New Foundland, "Maximilian Gee", working on crafts and caring for her home. Her loving family survive her, husband, Thomas Grabowski and loving daughter and best friend, Kelly Grabowski of Elmira Heights, NY; a granddaughter, Mariah Lee Spivey of Elmira Heights, NY; her parents, mother and stepfather, Patricia and James Henry Drake of Myrtle Beach, SC; and her father, Gerald VanSchoick of Horseheads, NY; her grandmother, Florence VanSchoick of Horseheads, NY; sisters and brothers-in-law, Laurie and Michael Andrus of Elmira Heights, NY; and Heather and Moktar Mehenni of New York City, NY; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Deborah VanSchoick, James Robert and Shanon Drake; a brother, Eddie Joe VanSchoick all of Myrtle Beach, SC; Timothy and Mary Drake of Goldsboro, NC; and David Wayne VanSchoick of Elmira, NY; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Barbara and Joseph Grabowski of Elmira Heights, NY; sisters-in-law, Carol (Steve) Cardamone of Painted Post, NY; and Pam (Ken) Lewis of Elmira Heights, NY; nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends. Sharon was predeceased by her grandfather, Wayne L. VanSchoick. A service to honor and celebrate Sharon's life will follow visitation (3 PM) with the Reverend Kerry Krissel officiating. She was born April 4, 1908 in Oxford, NY, the daughter of Franklyn and Bertha Rathbun VanSlyke. She was a long time resident of the Elmira, NY area and was a member of the Lake Street Presbyterian Church. Many will remember Flossie as an excellent saleswoman for Avon Cosmetics. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Joel Emerson Lewis in 1995. They enjoyed their retirement years in Tavares, Florida, where they were members of the Union Congregational Church. She is survived by children, June (Rev. Richard) Drehmer of Princeton, MA and Jay (Shirley) Lewis of Columbia Cross Roads, PA; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Elmira, NY at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be directed to the Bradford County Manor Activities Fund.

Lillie M. - Age 100, died on April 29, 2007. She was predeceased by her father and mother, James and Clara Vanzile; her husband, Robert Quackenbush; her brother, Raymon Vanzile; her daughter, Barbara DePue; her stepson, Ernest Quackenbush. She is survived by grandsons and their wives, John and Susan DePue, William and Elizabeth DePue, Richard and Susi DePue; and granddaughter, Donna Davenport. Lillie is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was a longtime member of the Auxiliary American Legion Post 154 and a member of the Westside United Methodist Church for 78 years. She was also an avid fan of the New York Yankees. VAN ZILE - Walter VanZile, 62, of Elmira Heights, N.Y.; father of Charles VanZile, Mrs. Margaret Watson, Mrs. Mona Southern and Mrs. Fern Plumbly, of Westfield, died Friday,  May 4, 1956; twenty grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Young of Lawrenceville, are among other survivors.  Funeral services were held Monday at Elmira, N.Y.   Wellsboro Agitator - May 10, 1956

VERMILYA –INCEL MAE VERMILYA STONE, 92, passed on to Heaven peacefully in her sleep at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Lana Lee and Daniel Gale Kelsey in Edwards, CO on April 24, 2009.  She lived with her daughter and son-in-law for many years.  Born Sept. 4, 1916 in Canton, PA, Incel was preceded in death by her mother and father, Merrick and Jenny Gilborn (should read Kilbourn) Vermilya and her brothers, Jimmy Vermilya, Elmo Vermilya and Clarence Vermilya.  Incel married Nelson Stone on December 4, 1937 in Alexandria, VA.  They operated Stone’s Grocery Store in Elmira, N.Y. until the passing of Nelson Stone on February 26, 1970.  Throughout her life she was a “caregiver”.  Her caring extended to being a Nurse’s Aide at the Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira, NY and a foster parent for children ages 6 months to 16 years old in Elmira, NY.  After her husband died she moved to California where she continued to be a caregiver.  She had several positions taking care of the elderly and she became a loving part of each of their families.  She also volunteered at the Eisenhower Medical Center, Ranco Mirago, CA.  Incel is preceded in life by her brother, Francis Vermilya and her daughter, Lana Kelsey who lives in Edwards, CO with her husband, Daniel Kelsey.  Incel traveled with them on vacations and celebrated her 90th birthday in Aruba with her daughter and son-in-law.  Her love of life was contagious and touched each person who knew her.  There will be a graveyard celebration of life service on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 2 p.m.  This will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 563 Jerusalem Hill Rd., Elmira, NY.  It will be an informal celebration of her life at which time her ashes will be buried next to her husband’s plot in the Veterans area of the cemetery.  Of special thanks to the following: Hospice and their wonderful volunteers for their help and support.  Especially her loving caregiver, Kerry McCullough.  All of the family and especially to Daniel Kelsey, Diane Stone Stiles, Mary Stone Bitterbender, Phyllis Adams Howell, Reba Terry Strickland and Vicki Gustin.  Her special friends who loved her and cared for her: Nikki and Jeff Bialy, Barbara Brant, Bonnie Farone and Tim Hulbert, Adam and Patti Johnson, Jane McQueen, Doris Mack, Alice Mauer, Michael Moore, JoAnn Breese Orr, Shirley Stalter Rig, Sharon Pierce Rumsey, Joy and Joe Sabol and Debbie and Spencer Thompson.  She will be remembered as caring, fun loving and inspiring.  –Canton Independent-Sentinel/Troy Gazette-Register 8/13/2009

VIEIRA, Matthew Alexander - Elmira - Matthew Alexander Vieira was born August 9, 1996 in Elmira, NY the beloved son of David A. and Lisa C. (Jerzak) Vieira, passed away very unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at the age of 22. His brother Michael James Vieira preceded him in death. Matthew is survived by his loving parents, David and Lisa; beloved brothers, Nicholas Vieira and Luke Vieira at home; maternal grandparents, Charles "Pop Pop" and Peggy "Panka" Jerzak; paternal grandparents, Robert and Anne Vieira; uncle, Michael James Vieira; aunts, Kimberly (Bernie) Rollins and Catherine Vieira; uncles, Daniel Vieira, George Vieira and Les (Rose) Jerzak; along with many special cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Matthew graduated from Southside High School in 2014. He was currently employed with Navient Corporation in Horseheads, NY. As a youth Matthew participated in marching band, played on the drum line and appeared in several theatrical productions from middle school through high school. Matthew was passionate about his friends and their love of music, especially his favorite band, The 1975. He was an excellent singer, and had many sold out performances with friends...in his car...singing at the top of their lungs. He would often accompany his own singing by playing his ukulele. Matthew was a caring individual who constantly put the needs of others before his own. VINCENT - WINFIELD, Rachel L.
Age 91 of Elmira, NY, died on Thursday, June 12, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira. Rachel was born on July 22, 1916 in Towanda, PA, daughter of the late Burton and Mary (Heeman) Vincent. Rachel worked at the Mark Twain Hotel and retired from the YMCA as a cook. She attended and played the organ for the Sullivan Street Mission for over 30 years. She loved and cherished all of her family. Rachel had a close relationship with her great-grandson, Scott Kinner, from whom she raised from birth. Survivors include her husband of 40 years, James Winfield; daughter, Cora "Dolly" Macri; sister, Rose Perry; grandchildren, Kenny (Rosie) Kinner, Margaret Kinner, Cindy Cubero, Debbie Ames and Vincent Macri; great-grandchildren, Scott (Teaira) Kinner, Tammy Kinner, Edward (Rachal) Cubero, Mickey Kinner, Kenny, Jeff, Daisy Kinner, Christopher Wadley, Toni Kinner; 14 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces; special friend, Larry Hoyt. WAGNER -ELSIE C. GORMAN, 103, of Waverly passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 26, 2020 at Elderwood in Waverly. She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Mary Wagner; her husband of 50 years, Leo Gorman; son, John F. Gorman; sisters, Mildred Donner and Juliet Donner. Elsie is survived by her son, Richard (MaryAnn) Gorman of Waverly; grandchildren, Jason and Kameo, Jamie and Kathy, Jeremy and Jessica, Jacob, Lori and Leo; and great grandchildren, Katie, Ryan, Shaun, Nicholas, Jackson and Brock Gorman. Elsie was born on May 16, 1917 in Sunbury, PA. She graduated from the Geisinger Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1939 and worked at the Tioga General Hospital in Waverly for a number of years. She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Waverly. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Church, 503 Clark Street, Waverly, NY with Rev. Daniel White officiating and burial follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Elmira, NY. Age 81, of E. Franklin St., Horseheads, died Fri. Nov. 20, 2009. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara; and son, Gary. He is survived by his son, Mark Wagner of Horseheads; and grandson, Chris Wagner also of Horseheads. Fred was also predeceased by his sisters, Helen Cadek and Dorothy Temple. Fred was born in Williamsport, PA to Joseph and Grace (Linn) Wagner. He was retired from Dairy Lea and Chemung Electronics. His hobbies were hunting and fishing with his son, Gary and spending time in the woods with his son, Mark. Fred always enjoyed supervising several projects around the house for both Mark and Chris. He loved chocolate milkshakes and spending time with his family. At his request, there will be no prior services. Interment in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In 1952, with the loving support of his wife Daisy, they founded Waights Supply Co. and the Southern Tier Coverting Co. both of Elmira for 20 years; after which was sold to the Mead Corp. Glen was an avid golfer and bowler. He and his wife Daisy loved the many years of camping and the fellowship with themembers in the Southern Tier Wheelers #108. Glen will be missed by many. Glen's spirit of professionalism and love of life will live on through all who knew him.

died April 20, 2008. She was born May 4, 1918 on O'Hanlon St. in Horseheads. She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Merton L. Burlew. (DEERY) VANDERPOEL, 60 year resident of Kelly Hill, Pine City, NY.  Fonda was blessed into the peaceful hand of her Lord, Sunday, June 22nd, 2003, of Elcor Heath Services in Horseheads, NY.  Born February 156h, 1917 in Elmira, NY; the loving daughter of the late Phillip G. and Inez M. Goodwin Wands.  She is survived by her dear husband and caregiver of 39 years, Arthur (Art) Vanderpoel of Pine City, NY; daughters Joyce Ginnan of Pine City, NY, Frances (Jim) Sproule of Horseheads, NY; sons, Frank (Angela) Deery of Crewe, VA, Phillip (Tana) Deery of Wellsboro, PA; 13 cherished grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.  Fonda is predeceased by her first husband, Howard Deery; son-in-law, Earl Ginnan; daughter-in-law; Elaine Rubneski Deery; great-grandson, Noah Bailey; and brother, Francis Bodewes.  Being a lifelong resident of Southport, Fonda graduated from the Southside High School.  After her graduation she worked as a proof reader for Artistic Card, until she began what would be lifetime career that she loved because she was giving back to the community she loved.  As a secretary for the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chemung County, 4-H Division, she was able to help so many young people start careers that where fruitful for our area.  Fonda never fell short of giving to her community.  She was a very active member of the Millerton United Methodist Church, where she played the organ for over 39 years.  Not only did she provide beautiful music for her own church, she also was well known for playing in many others in the area, including the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church in Pine City.  She never limited herself to just Sunday services, but added her own love to many wedding services.  Fonda was a devoted mother and grandmother.  She loved to cook, bake and crochet various items including sweaters, afghans, throws, and countless baby clothes.  Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY Wednesday, June 25th, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and again at the Millerton United Methodist Church, Millerton, PA, on Thursday, June 26th, 2003, from 10 to 11 a.m.  Funeral services will be held there at 11 a.m.  Lay Minister Jennifer Wolf and rev. Gordon Ripley Warters, of Erin, NY, formerly of Lambs Creek and Mansfield, died Sunday April 27, 1975. He was 69 years old. Mr. Warters was born in Lambs Creek and was a graduate of Mansfield High School. WARTERS Lowell L. Warters

84, of Elmira, NY formerly of Gillett, PA and Apopka, FL, died July 10, 2013 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility after an extended illness. Lowell was born August 25, 1928 in Tioga, PA the son of the late Gordon and Clara (Carleton) Warters and was a graduate of Southside High School class of 1947. He retired from Westinghouse Electric Corporation in September 1986. He also owned Warters Pro Shop which he ran at his home in Gillett, Pa. Lowell was one of the best bowlers in Elmira and was inducted into the Elmira Bowling Hall of Fame in 1964. He also loved doing genealogy, watching baseball and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Lowell is survived by his wife Diana (Knowlton) Warters at home. ELLIOTT Marcella Kathryn (Warters) ("Marcy" or "Sally") Age 76, of Elmira (Southport), died April 6, 2006. Loving wife, devoted mother, nurturing grandma, caring mother-in-law, Marcy is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Mort Elliott; her daughters, Carol (Jim) Hosley, Bonnie (Bobby) Barfield, and Valerie Szostek; her grandchildren, Melanie Baldwin, Christian Saunders, Ray Barfield, and Kathryn Barfield; several nieces, nephews, cousins; one aunt, Mildred Raplee in Texas; and sister-in-law, Arleen Warters. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Edna Warters; and brothers, Jackie, Albert (LaMae), and Lynn Warters. Her natural gifts, talents and skills as a wife, mother, musician and friend were beyond description. She had a wisdom about life that was a great source of inspiration to all who knew her. During her children's formative years, Marcy devoted all of her time to her family. Most of the rest of her adult life, she also worked outside the home. Age 66 of Horseheads, NY. He was born February 25, 1943 in Canandaigua, NY, son of the late Walter J., Sr. and Florence (Sands) Washburn and died Monday, December 28, 2009, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Carol (West); sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Kathe of Elmira, Roger and Sheila of Elmira Heights, Steven of Horseheads and Greg and Ronda of Elmira; grandchildren, Brittany, Katie, Kyle, Graig, Robert, Brionna and Alexis. Of Elmira, NY - Was born October 5, 1940 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Alton E. and Louise (Radcliff) Waters, died
peacefully on Sunday, April 11, 2010, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife, Mary Waters; children, Mike Waters (Dawn Singer), Mark (Katrina) Waters, Mary "Mooch" Waters (Ken Bailey), Wendy Waters (Tim Walker), Audra (Chuck) Green; along with brothers, sisters many friends, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. James was a dedicated employee of the Elmira Star-Gazette for numerous years. He loved landscaping, planting flowers and passed his hobby down to many family members. His family will be gathering at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY on Friday, April 16, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with funeral services to follow with Pastor Dustin Hall celebrating Jim's service. ROBERT E. WATKINS, age 91 of Horseheads and longtime resident of Watkins Rd. in Pine Valley passed away March 31, 2015. Bob was born in Southport, NY December 19, 1923 to the late S. Earl and Mertie (Hollock) Watkins. He was predeceased by his wife Arlene Impson Watkins and by grandson Tommy Watkins in 2004. Robert is survived by his sons and daughters, Ilene (Dana) Stanton of Texas, Susan (James) Rose of Virginia, David (Beth) Watkins of Elmira, and Eugene Watkins of Big Flats. He has three Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren. Step children and their families include, Merle and Cheryl Impson of Tampa, FL, Karl and Dianne Impson of Big Flats, NY and Sonjia and Scott Bump of Horseheads, NY. Bob was a long time member of Light House Baptist Church as well as a Trustee and usher there. He was retired in 1998 from Hardinge Inc. as a machinist and also had worked at Remington Rand. Bob was a proud WWII veteran serving in the US Army 11th Armored Division. He was a member of the Horseheads American Legion Post #442. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and could repair almost any broken item sent his way. If you ever received a card or note from him, Bob probably personalized it with a little drawing of his own. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Wed. April 8, 2015 from 4-7:00 pm. His service will take place at the funeral home on Thursday April 9, 2015, at 10:00am. Burial service with full military honors will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Age 82, of Elmira, NY, died peacefully on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Lillian was born on June 14, 1930 in Elmira, daughter of the late Merle and Rose (Keys) Watts. Lillian is survived by her husband of 32 years, Albert; children, Dan (Janet) Mitchell, Pat Mitchell and Ed Mitchell; siblings, Pat (Hester) Watts, Harold (Roseanne) Watts and George Watts; grandchildren, Cory (Mel) Mitchell and Brandon (Alicia) Mitchell, Lee (Niki) Heavlin and Lori Heavlin, April (Todd) Seely and Brittany Mitchell; many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. WATTS - WIGSTEN
Lucinda Watts Age 94, died on Saturday morning, February 4, 2006 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Lucinda was a long time resident of Flannery Apartments on Elmira's Southside. Born on October 22, 1911, she was one of several children of Norman & Julia Easton Watts. She worked as a nurses aide at the Chemung County Nursing Facility when located in Breesport, NY and also was well known as a crossing guard in later years on S. Main St. and Curtis St. Lucinda loved to write poetry and won several awards from the National Library of Poetry, including Golden Poet Award for 1988. Surviving is her loving family who cherish her memory, a son and daughter-in-law, William & Barbara Wigsten, Millerton, PA a daughter and son-in-law, Judina & Purl Stevens, Gillett, PA granddaughters, Robin (Wayne) Niles, Horseheads; Kimberly (Rich) Pettitt, Canisteo; a grandson, Mark (June) Stevens, Knoxville, TN; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a brother, Thomas (Beverly) Watts, Nashville, TN; several nieces, nephews including a special nephew, Judd (Nancy) Thompson, Burlington, KS; and wonderful family friends. Lucinda was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Wigsten, a granddaughter, Laurie Stevens, parents, Norman & Julia Watts, brothers, Leon, John, Russell, Kenneth and Norman Watts; sisters, Martha Wilson and Marie Vanwert. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 between the hours of 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 8 p.m. with the Reverend Laurie Greenlaw officiating. (WATTS) CHEESEMAN age 89, was born June 6, 1930 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Kenneth and Genevieve (Conklin) Watts, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at Elcor Health Services. Jeanne was preceded in death by her first husband Thomas Houser, second husband Albert Cheeseman, and daughter Cheryl Matthews. Gladys W. Age 85, of Horseheads, NY died Tuesday morning, May 31, 2005, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira NY, surrounded by her loving family. Gladys was born on July 31, 1919 in Chesterfield, SC, the daughter of the late Robert L. and Ida Mae Johnson Watson. She was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church for 50 years. Although she had numerous small jobs her main job was as a caregiver to her family. Preceding her in death are her brothers, Lowell and Julian Watson; and sister, Elizabeth Knight. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Thomas L. Peterson; sons, Gary (Pamela) Peterson of Rochester, NY, Scott (Kathy) Peterson of Falcon, CO; daughters, Kathy (Michael) Adam of Horseheads, NY, and Joan Peterson of Horseheads, NY; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie Weaver, Eloise Brock and Jeanette Brigman all of SC; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. WATSON, WAYNE W.,   Wayne W. Watson, 90, of Elmira, NY died September 12, 1986.  Mr. Watson was retired from the Elmira City School District and served as fireman for the Mark Twain Hotel for many years.  He is survived by sisters; Lucy Lisk, Odessa, NY, Florence Ayers of Columbia Cross Roads; brothers, Jay Watson and Kenneth Watson of Gillett, PA; sister-in-law, Florence Watson of Gillett; several nieces and nephews; one great niece.  Funeral services were held at the Olthof Funeral Home in Elmira on September 15 with Rev.
