Age 84, of Horseheads, NY, died on Friday, August 7, 2009 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. He was born on May 30, 1925 in Elmira, NY to the late Clarence and Elizabeth (Clemens) Pearson Sr.. Clarence was predeceased by his wife, Grace Pearson in 1992. Survivors include his children, William (Marsha) Pearson of Horseheads, Donna (Arnold) Miller of Horseheads, Jean Andrews of Erin and Mark (Carla) Pearson of Millport; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Clarence was a veteran of the US Army during WWII and he retired from Trayer Products after many years of service. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, August 12th from 4 to 6 PM at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow there at 6 PM. Stephanie was a secretary of United Cerebral Palsy of Chemung County. She graduated from SHS, Class of '92, and from Elmira Business Institute. She loved softball, crafts, photography, her cake, traveling, cleaning, and all sports, but most of all her dogs. WILLIAM E. PEARSON, age 69, of Horseheads, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 in Florida. He was born on June 29, 1949 in Elmira, NY to the late Clarence and Grace (Stumpff) Pearson, Jr. William was predeceased by his daughter, Stephanie Pearson, in 2006. Survived by his wife of 35 years, Marsha Pearson of Horseheads, NY; children, Steven (Angela) Pearson of Ohio; Richard Roy of Horseheads, NY; John (Dianne) Roy of Endicott, NY; Robert (Stacey Michaels) Roy of Florida; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna (Arnold) Miller of Horseheads, NY; Jean Andrews of Breesport, NY; and brother, Mark (Christine) Pearson of Millport, NY. William was a veteran of the US Navy and he retired from Coldiron Fuel Company after many years of service. William was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. PECKENS Leroy (Pete) Age 92, of Breesport, NY, died on Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born on July 15, 1914, the son of the late Robert and Catherine Peckens. In addition to his parents, his brother, Wilber, and his granddaughter, Tara Bellgraph, preceded him in death. Pete was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Vivian (Wilson) Peckens; five children, Richard (Cindy) Weakland of Corning, NY, Daniel Weakland of Pine Valley, NY, Wendy (Leo) Kawczenski of Sayre, PA, Peter (Janet) Peckens of Elmira, NY, and Melody (Greg) Freeman of Athens, PA; 11 grandchildren, Richard and Allan Kintz, Annie (Bobby) Farina, Jessica Cartagena, Casey, Hallie, Logan and Maren Weakland, Elizabeth Peckens, and Jennifer and Jeffery Freeman; and three great-grandchildren. Pete retired from Kennedy Value after 39 years of service. He was the shop foreman in the brass foundry and machine shop. Pete also served in the U.S. Navy in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, during WWII. DARRYL L. ‘BUBBA’ PEET, age 54 of Elmira, NY passed away Friday, August 12, 2016. He is survived by his parents William Peet and Glenora Peet; brother William (Sharon) Peet, Jr.; sisters Shiela Stahle and Glenda Peet along with several nieces and nephews. Darryl was a DJ, performing at all family functions. He loved music and riding his bike. Family and friends are invited to visit Lake St. Presbyterian Church, 300 Lake St., Elmira on Thursday, August 18th from 12 to 1 pm. His funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Pastor Jahura Shazer will officiate. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Age 44, of Elmira, died on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital. James was a loving Father, Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend. He is survived by daughters, Megan and Katlyn VanHouten of Pine City, NY; parents, William and Glenora Peet Sr.; brothers, Darryl and William Peet Jr. of Elmira, NY; sisters, Shiela (Keith) Stahle of Elmira, NY and Glenda Peet of Erin, NY; several nieces and nephews, April (Jason) Halm of Pine City, NY, Holly (David) Garcia of Albany, NY, Todd (Eileen) Peet of Elmira Heights, NY; and also several great nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend, Maryanne Fieno. Jimbo loved the outdoor life, camping and animals. He especially loved and enjoyed his "guitar" and his friends. He was always willing to help a friend in need and was known to adopt a stray or two. He was loved very much and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends from 4-5 p.m. at Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. PENNER - STEINHILPER Beatrice Lucille, Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Age 86, of Pennsylvania Ave., Pine City, joined her loving husband, Carl, in Heaven on Friday, April 11, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Elmira. Beatrice (Bea) was born December 5, 1921 in Windber, PA. The daughter of the late Clyde and Dora (Grush) Penner. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl on December 14, 1998; brothers, Charles, Bernard, Howard and Harold; sister, Doris; and children, Carol Ann, and David. Married on March 22, 1944 in Pine City, Carl and Bea celebrated 50 happy and loving years together. Bea operated a family home licensed day care center in her home for many years. She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church for over 50 years; a member of the Pine City Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years; a member of Chemung County Ladies Auxiliary, NY Central Ladies Auxiliary and NY State Ladies Auxiliary; Southport Historical Society; Southport Kiwanis Club; Senior Citizens of Wellsburg & Ashland; Brand Park Beautification committee; a volunteer for Meals On Wheels for many years; and a volunteer at Samaritan Center in Elmira. She is survived by her loving family: Gary (Barbara) of Pine City, Gene (Sandra) of Lindley, Bruce (Ann) of San Juan Capistrano, CA; five grandchildren, Paul, Jackie, Keith, Tara and Amy; five great-grandchildren, Danielle, Steven, Amanda, Rebecca, and Meganlynn; brother, Oscar of Wellsburg; sister, Ella (Merle) Huston of Sebring, FL; sister-in-law, Susanne Penner; and many wonderful friends and neighbors. PENNER Edward K. Penner, Sr.

age 68 of the Millerton community died at home Sunday evening, October 20, 2013 surrounded by family. Ed was born in Windber, PA the 28th of December in 1944. He was the son of the late Oscar K. and Bernice (Walker) Penner. Surviving are his sons, Kevin (Star) Penner of Tioga; Edward (Teresa) Penner, Jr. of Mainesburg, PA, Eugene (Sue) Penner of Elmira Heights, and Joe (Linda) Penner of Millerton;11 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Ed held a strong work ethic, working in carpentry and trucking his whole life. He loved to hunt and in the past raced at the former Chemung Speed Drome and the Dundee Raceway. Age 94, of Southport, NY, died and made his final journey home July 23, 2011. He was born December 23, 1916 in Windber, PA. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Bernice Penner. Beloved father of Larry (Patricia) Penner of Homosassa, FL, Edward Penner, Sr. of Millerton, PA, Donald (Joanne) Penner of Millerton, PA, and Donna Ayers of Southport, NY; also nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Oscar proudly served in the United States Army and Air Force during WWII and retired from American LaFrance Corporation after 30 years of service. He enjoyed working in his garden and bowling. PEROSKI  Charles Age 85, of Elmira, NY, died Thursday, September 29, 2005, surrounded by his family at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was the son of the late Louis and Catherine (Lamar) Peroski. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Clara Peroski; daughters, Mary (Larry) Houseknecht of Florence, SC, and Cecelia Marie (John) Laub of Erieville, NY; grandchildren, Laurie (Brock) Greenlaw, Mark (Cyndi) Houseknecht, Dana Houseknecht, Jacqueline (Joey) Stokes, Theresa Marie (Eric) Givens, Marybeth Lord; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Anna Leasure; brother, Stephen Peroski, both of Sheffield, PA; also brother, Joseph "Joey" Peroski of Germany. Charles was a United States Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, a former member of the V.F.W., founder and member of the Triple Cities Cloggers, member of the Twin Tiers Square Dance group for 20 years, an avid fisherman, a Giants football fan, and enjoyed gardening & traveling. He also was a member of the Big Elm Rod & Gun Club, the Seniors Softball League, and enjoyed playing the harmonica. Charles retired from the Hilliard Corporation after 42 years of service and was a communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Barbara is survived by her husband Douglas Frawley; her children: Kayla Russell, Nicole Russell, Christopher Russell, Zachary Frawley, and Brandon Frawley; significant other: Timothy Rorick and his children Sean Rorick and Xavier Rorick; mother: Deborah Clifford; fathers: James Perry III, Marvin Pitsley, and Peter Clifford Jr.; mother-in-law: Violet Frawley; grandmother: Mabelle Johnson; sisters; Heidi (Steven) Willis, Peggy Sawyer, Joyce Sawyer, Jamie (Steven) Bell Sr., and Emma Perry; brothers: Andrew, Gregory, Patrick, Charles, Justin, and James IV; several aunts and uncles including Carol, Norman, Lester, and Kenneth; cousins: Billie Jo (Anthony) Gleason and their four children and Mike & Tanya Fields Jr.; several nieces, nephews; cousins; and other extended family and several friends.  Mrs. Effie D. Warner, 73, 208 Fletcher St., Horseheads, NY died Sunday, October 28, 1973. Surviving are four sons, Barney and Richard Hart both of Horseheads, James Hart of Columbia Cross Roads, Clifford Hart of Coopers Plains, NY; a daughter Mrs. Teresa Rought of Horseheads; 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the VanBuskirk-Lunds Funeral Home in Horseheads on Wednesday at 1:00 pm, with Rev. Thomas Moore officiating.  Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Elmira, NY.
 

PERSONIUS Evelyn E. Myers

96, formerly of Elmira, died late Tuesday evening (May 15, 2012) at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath. Born in Elmira on Aug. 20, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth White Personius. She was married to William Myers, who predeceased her on Dec. 27, 1981. Besides her parents and husband she was also predeceased by her son, Walter Myers; her two grandsons, John and James Myers; her three sisters, Gladys, Florence and Virginia; also her brother-in-law, Philip Rossi III. Her family includes her son, George William (Mary Anne) Myers of San Antonio, TX; her three grandsons, James (Wendy) Myers of Tennessee, Tom (Cathy) Myers and Terry (Sharon) Myers of Colorado; her four great-grandchildren; her sister, Betty Rossi of Bath; also several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in her memory at 11 a.m. Tuesday (May 22) at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Elmira, with Pastor Bill McFeaters of Avoca officiating. Age 69, of Millerton, Pennsylvania, died on Thursday, January 24, 2002 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born on February 17, 1932 in Bath, NY to the late Rex and Celia Peters. Fred was predeceased by his wife Patricia in 1990 and his two sisters Adeline and Caroline. Survivors include his daughters, Rose Peters, Michaela Brockway and Caroline Blake all of Millerton, PA; brothers, Daniel Peters and Rex Peters of Geneva, NY; sisters, Ann Harkness of Pine Valley, NY and Ruth Drislan of Mylan, PA; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. PETERSON Ethel M. Hooker
A longtime resident of Morrowfield St. in Elmira, died peacefully following a long full life at the Chemung County Nursing Facility at the age of 102. Born on November 25, 1907 in Schenectady, NY, daughter of the late Peter C. & Mary Rebecca Schofield Peterson. Ethel was a vibrant fun loving lady who enjoyed caring for her home. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Surviving is her loving family, son, Kenneth (Patricia) Hooker, Hummelstown, PA; grandchildren, David (Sandra) Kuster, Horseheads; Linda (Raliegh) Parrott, IL; Mark Hooker, CA; Diane (Bill) Bird, Harrisburg, PA; Rebecca Kreiner, Harrisburg, PA; Brenda Ingraham, Harrisburg, PA; Stephen (Charlotte) Kuster, IL; Zachary (Coleen) Hooker, CA; Bruce Kuster, TN; eighteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and cousins. In addition to her parents, Ethel was predeceased by her husband, Clifford Hooker in November, 1994 and her daughter, Dorothy Weir in July, 1993. PETERSON Richard H. "Dick" Peterson

A longtime resident of the Gillett community, died Saturday May 21, 2011 at the Bradford County Manor, E. Troy, PA following declining health at the age of 76. Born on October 30, 1934 in Elmira, Dick was the son of, Archie L. & Catherine E. Hartman Peterson. He was employed for many years by Steve Acuto Pontiac as the parts manager until his retirement. Among his many interests were auto racing and collecting, gardening, woodworking and providing for his loving family who survive. Wife and companion for 50 years, Jacquelyn "Jackie" Peterson; daughter, Brenda (Michael) Smith, Gillett, PA; son, Kevin (Terra) Peterson, Painted Post; five grandchildren, Amanda, Kellie, Samantha, Sarah and Brandon; 3 great grandchildren; mother, Catherine E. Hartman Peterson, Gillett, PA; sisters, Phylis Sasenbury, Elmira; Judy (Scott) Ameigh, Gillett, PA; Dick's twin brother, Robert (Susan) Peterson, Beaver, PA; brother, Nils (Maureen) Peterson, Troy, PA; sister-in-law, Sandy Reynolds, NC; several nieces and nephews. PETERSON Lewis Peterson

Age 88 of Elmira, NY, formerly of Pageland, SC. He was born May 11, 1922 in Dryden, NY, son of the late John and Mary (Gibbons) Peterson and died Monday, January 10, 2011. He was predeceased by his loving wife Esther Clark Peterson on October 29, 2004, whom he dearly missed and spoke of often until his passing. Lewis is survived by his daughter and caregiver Nina Byford of Elmira. He retired after 30 years as a machinist in Pageland, SC and then moved to Elmira to be with his daughter Nina. From 1937 to 1938 he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, working in the Southern Tier. He was a lifetime member of the Horseheads Moose Club. Private services were held at the convenience of his family. He was laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Monday, January 17th. Walter J. Age 88, and formerly of Watercure Hill Rd. of Elmira, went home to be with the Lord Thurs. Oct. 7, 2010 after an extended illness. Frank was born in Elmira Oct. 11, 1921, a son to the late Louis and Caroline (Kulik) Pfeifer. He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia in 2004; and grandson, Matthew Pfeifer in 2002. Age 62 of Horseheads, NY died on Friday April 18, 2008 at The Arnot Ogden Medical Center after an extended illness. Paula was born in Queens, NY on November 19, 1945 the daughter of the late Paul Edward Phelan and Mary Ann Skiladany Phelan. Paula is survived by her loving and devoted husband Douglas Albert Mettler; daughter: Christina M. Butler & Frank Todzia of Baldwinsville, NY; sons and daughter-in-law: Robert P. Butler of Springfield, Ohio and Andre P. & Tina Phelan of Watertown, NY; sister and brother-in-law: Maria & Alan Benedict of Eastchester, NY; brother: Michael Phelan of Garrison, NY; step-sons and their wives: Mark D. (Diane) Mettler of Dallas, PA, Gregg D. (Margo) Mettler of Quakertown, PA, and Shawn T. (Barbara) Mettler of Stroudsburg, PA; 18 grandchildren; 2 nieces, 3 nephews, several cousins, and a host of caring friends. Mrs. Mettler was a graduate of Queens Vocational High School in Queens, NY. Paula worked for AT & T until she retired in April 1990. Mrs. Mettler wanted to add "what a great life she had, and the reason being, her marriage to Douglas A. Mettler. The many years spent with him opened her eyes; that there could be a person or persons in this world whom could be so compassionate and considerate." During all the trials and tribulations which arose in their marriage, Doug was always there to care for Paula. With such dedication she always said "how lucky she was." PHILLIPS Harold T. Age 85, of Naples, FL, formerly of Elmira, NY, died Saturday, June 11, 2005, in Naples, FL. Harold was born in Benton Circle, NY, the son of the late William B and Ethel Hartwell Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Gerow Croft Phillips; daughters, Linda (Howard) Rice of Cornelius, OR, Joyce (Barry) Good of Halifax, PA; son, David (Peggy) Phillips of San Marcos, TX; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; sister, Doris Romig of Penn Yan, NY; also survived by step-children, Maxine Monsour of Aurora, CO, Nancy De Furio of Naples, FL, Winn and Kathie Croft of Clintonville, WI; 11 step grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. PICKERING Frank A. Age 86, of Elmira Heights, NY, died Thursday, July 14, 2005, at Elcor Health Services in Horseheads, NY. Frank was born January 20, 1919 in Elmira, son of Frank and Myrtle Hodge Pickering, Sr. Frank was a true athlete and participated in all sports, and was a lifelong Yankee fan. He served in the US Coast Guard during WWII in the Pacific Theatre, and was retired from Bendix Corp. after 39 years of service. Upon his retirement, he worked for the Elmira Heights School District bus garage as a driver and an aide. His memberships included the Elmira Heights American Legion Post #154 and the Elmwood Baptist Church. Frank was a participant in the Sr. Olympic Games in Elmira, and all during his life he enjoyed bowling, softball and fishing. Ruby was born on July 11, 1922 in Lawton, PA, daughter of the late Howard and Ruth (Younker) Pickett. Ruby is survived by her daughter, Loraine (Matthew Sr.) Castle; son, Ronald (Anita) Traver; sister, Joan VanCise; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Ruby was predeceased by her daughter, Evelyn Draht, son John Traver, brothers, Carlton and Harold Pickett, sister, Alice Decker. Age 19, of Elmira died Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Jessica was born November 30, 1993 in Elmira the daughter of Dorene (Walmsley) Pierson Burley and Ricky Pierson. She attended Southside High School. Jessica was a partial liver recipient receiving her donation from her mother Dorene. She was the youngest in New York State to receive a partial side-by-side liver transplant at the time. Jessica loved to read, enjoyed watching Sponge Bob, Family Guy and also liked to watch movies. Survivors include her mother and step-father, Dorene & Todd Burley; her father, Ricky Pierson; sisters, Megan & Eric Brooks and Morgan Pierson all of Elmira; maternal grandmother, Betty Smith of North Carolina; paternal grandparents David & June Pierson of Elmira; two nieces, one nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather Donald Walmsley. Age 90 of Horseheads, NY died on Saturday June 16, 2007. Carlton was a veteran of WW II serving his country with the US Army as a Guard For The Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier. PLATE –MARY ELLEN CONNELLY age 91, of Elmira, passed away peacefully at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center on May 9, 2015. Mary Ellen was born in Elmira on October 3, 1923. She was the sixth of thirteen children born to Frederick W. and Mary Rose (Tice) Plate. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her husband Benjamin M. Connelly, Jr.; siblings, Ted, Harry, Grace, Earl, Thelma, Ruth, Gertrude, Florence and Dick; son-in-law James Cicora. Mary Ellen is survived by her children, Art Connelly of Roseville PA, Linda Cassetta and husband Thomas of Elmira, Fred Connelly of Virginia Beach VA, Darlene Cicora of Elmira, Benjamin M. Connelly III and wife Carolyn of Elmira; grandchildren, Venus, Tom, Elizabeth, Derek (Alana) and Matthew; great grandchildren, Cherokee and Zeta; brothers, John Plate of Watkins Glen, Bob Plate and wife Carol of Elmira; sister Elsie Shock and husband Everett of Wellsburg; several nieces, nephews, in-laws; and her cat Goldie. Mary Ellen was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WW II. She worked for many years at the Chemung County License Bureau. In her younger days she was an avid bowler. Mary Ellen also enjoyed watching her favorite team, the New York Yankees. She was always an active person and loved being "on the go". Her most enjoyable time was that spent with family. POLOVICK Stephen Jr.
Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather - Was born November 24, 1925 in Elmira, NY, died on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse, NY at the age of 83. His beloved mother, Katherine Biliczyc Polovick, predeceased him. Stephen is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Dolores (Ellison) Polovick; much-loved children and their spouses, Kevin and Linda Polovick of Ridgebury, PA, Stephan and Deborah Polovick of Pine City, NY, Douglas and Robin Polovick of Remsen, NY, Elizabeth and John Hill Jr. of Truxton, NY; seven adored grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; brother, Tom Polovick of West Elmira, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Stephen was a faithful member of the Oakwood Avenue United Methodist Church for 56 years. He was a veteran of the US Navy, proudly serving his country from 1944 to 1946. He was employed for 40 plus years by the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad, later retiring from Conrail Railroad in Elmira as General Foreman. After his retirement, Stephen and Dolores moved to Florida where they enjoyed there retirement and spending time with each other. Throughout his life, Stephen always provided for his family and made sure each of his children and other family members were "set up" with a home they could call their own. He built many homes for his family and a beautiful cottage on Seneca Lake where he spent many hours with family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Charlotte (Popowski) died suddenly at home on Friday, January 12, 2007, in Houston, Texas. She was born in Kane, PA, on August 8, 1931. Charlotte was a longtime resident of Elmira and Horseheads, NY. She retired from Thatcher Glass Co. and Macy's Corp. and was an active member of several activities at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton's Church in Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Cecilia Popowski; brother, Henry; and her oldest daughter, Christine Dalton Moheb. Charlotte is survived by daughters, Carol Walsh of Honeoye Falls, NY, Cathy Spencer of Albuquerque, NM, Charlene Allred and Cindy Henley of Houston, TX; and son, Corey Dalton of Winchester, VA; sister, Helen Gallagher and husband, Bob; cousin, Stephanie Anuskiewicz; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. One week shy of his 48th birthday, died at his home in Meridian, MS with family members at his bedside from prostate/bone cancer. Chuck was born in the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA, the sixth of nine children born to Gillett, PA couple, Warren LeRoy Porter and Esther Louise Coddington. He married Bonnie Elizabeth Buchanan, only child of Marcus Buchanan and Cleone Fields, on 06 Feb 1974 in Gillett, at the home of Cleone's parents, Allen and Alice Fields. Bonnie was previously married and had a son (Thomas Edward), whom Chuck would later adopt. After their marriage, Chuck enlisted into the Air Force and was stationed at Vandenburg Air Force Base in Lompoc, CA. He had lived in West Burlington, NY, Schuyler Lake, NY, Austinville, PA, Chemung, NY and Collinsville, MS. He was the family's mechanic, a career for which he studied in high school B.O.C.E.S. and the military. His kids and grandkids were Chuck's life. He laughed with them, he cried with them. He taught them right from wrong, all the while learning from them. He gave respect when due and expected the same in return. He could make you laugh, not only at his jokes and gestures, but at yourself as well. He loved the great outdoors and devoured the beauty nature had to offer. He worked hard for what he had, his dealings were fair and his family came first. He enjoyed his life, living each day to its' fullest. He was predeceased by his father on 03 Jan 1968, his mother on 20 Jun 1990, his sisters Christine on 13 Sep 1954 and Loretta on 05 Nov 1986. He had hoped he wouldn't die on the anniversary of our father's death or on his own birthday. His surviving family include: Bonnie, wife of nearly 29 years of Meridian; son, Thomas Porter, of Elmira; daughters: Sylina Taskey, Tanya Garrett and Shavon King, all of MS; grandchildren: Veronika Porter of Elmira, NY, Kaylyn Porter of Athens, PA, Scotty, Dominic and Stephanie Taskey, Austin and Dalton Garrett; Zachery and Kody Wilkerson, all of the Meridian area. His surviving siblings were: sisters, Connie Wells of Elmira, NY, Dolly Chotkowski of Gillett, PA, and Deanna Tice of New Berlin, NY; brothers, Dick Porter of Elmira, NY, Howard Porter of Oceanside, CA (died 02 Dee 2005), and Ronald Porter of Roanoke, VA; sister-in-law LoriBeth Porter of Horseheads, NY; brother-in-Iaws, Bob Fowler of Elmira, NY (died 01 Mar 2009) and Carl Tice of New Berlin, NY. Also surviving are nieces and nephews: Penny, Patty, Beth and Warren (Connie's kids); Ricky, Joshua and Latney (Dick's boys); Malissa and Susan Howard's girls); Tammy, Chrissy and Brenda (Dolly's girls); Colleen and Kim (Loretta's girls), and Sandi, Ryan and Erica (Deanna's kids); and several great-nieces and nephews and cousins. It was Chuck's wish that he be cremated and his ashes be placed in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Elmira. He will be buried on the lot of Bonnie's parents. PORTER Leland Earl
Age 84 formerly of Horseheads, NY died and Saviour on Sunday February 10, 2008. Mr. Porter was born September 8, 1923 in Elmira, NY the son of the late John E. and Iva H. Doland Porter. He was a Veteran of WW II serving his country with The U.S. Navy. Leland married his wife, Elouise Ruth Twist Porter, on July 4, 1944 and they celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary prior to Elouise passing away on December 27, 2005. He was also pre-deceased by his parents and nine brothers and sisters. Leland and his wife were avid square dancers for over 20 years. Mr. Porter was a charter member of The Calvary Baptist Church in Horseheads, NY and served on The Board of Trustees for many years. Leland was a retired employee of Bendix Corp. in Elmira Heights, NY. Mr. Porter is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Ronald D. & Sara Jane Porter of Pine Grove Mills, PA; grandchildren: David & Diane Porter of Gloucester, VA, Andrew Porter and Stephen Porter both of State College, PA; great granddaughter: Breanne Porter of Gloucester, VA; sister-in-law: Joan Twist of Roaring Branch, PA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. POST Donald M. Sr. Of Fernwood Ave., Elmira, died peacefully with his loving wife at his side at the Veterans Hospital in Bath on Thursday evening, June 2, 2005, at the age of 59. Don is able to rest peacefully after an extended illness. Born on May 27, 1946, Don was the son of Donald F. and Isabell Eckert Post. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was employed by F. M. Howell Co. until his illness. Don married Teresa Carpenter on October 8, 1966 at the Southside Baptist Church. Together they have spent many cherished years raising a loving family, which survive: his wife and companion, Teresa Carpenter Post; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald M. Jr. and Julie Post, Elmira; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Bill Stanley, Wellsburg; grandchildren, Chelsey and Nicholas Post, Billy, Tommy and John Stanley; a special uncle and aunt, Edward and Dorothy Post; along with many family friends. Don's many interest included driving his own race cars at the Chemung Speedrome. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and camping. He was also a life member and commissioner of the Golden Glow Fire Dept. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald F. Post and Isabel Post Smith. POTTER David B. Sr.
Retired Deputy Chief, Elmira Fire Department
Age 90, formerly of Luce Street and Woodbrook Adult Home, Elmira, NY, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira after a brief illness. David was born October 1, 1916 in Towanda, PA, son of the late Bernard and Dora (Simpson) Potter. David served our country in the United States Navy during WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Naval Reserves for a total of thirty years. He was named Outstanding Naval Reservist in 1963. He was the Deputy Chief of the Towanda, PA, Fire Dept., later moving to Elmira and moving up through the ranks to become a Deputy Chief of the Elmira Fire Dept. David was honored as Fireman of the Year by B'Nai B'rith in 1963. David also worked in maintenance for the Berger and Sherin Textile Company (Silk Mill) in Elmira, along with working in housekeeping at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. He also worked as a security officer for St. Joseph's Hospital. David was a devoted husband and father. He will be deeply missed. David was predeceased by his loving wife, Helen (Ferrell) Potter in 2004. He was also predeceased by his stepmother, Augusta Potter; and sisters, Ann Smith and Gladys Lewis. Survivors include his sons, David B. Jr. (Jean) of Pine City, Donald (Phyllis) of Elmira, Stewart (Ann) of Watkins Glen, NY, Stanley (Dolores) of Elmira, and Timothy (Sandra) of Elmira; grandchildren, David (Janice) Potter, Betsy Potter, Thomas (Peggysue) Potter, Amy (Ed) Browning, Mary (Liam) Lohmuller, Ronda Cady, James (Julie) Potter, Brenda (Russell) Robinson, Craig (Rebecca) Potter, Roy, Daniel, Randy "Joe" and Byron Potter, Melissa (Hugh) Dabney, Tiffany (Scott) Hmiel, Timothy Potter II (David Sowersby); and step granddaughter, Jillian Zimmerman; 22 great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Phillip (Dorothy) Potter; devoted former daughter-in-law, Susan Potter; special friend and caregiver, Nancy Isaacs. Florence G. (Pratt) Age 82 of Watercure Hill Road Elmira, NY has gone to be with her Lord and beloved husband James on Tuesday August 30, 2005. Florence was born April 9, 1923 in Millport, NY the daughter of the late William and Genevieve O'Donahue Pratt. She married her husband James H. Cowl who pre-deceased her on June 12, 1978. Florence is also pre-deceased by her brothers Earl, James, Eugene, Robert, William, John, Ronald, and Charles Pratt and by her sister Bernardine VanAlstine. Mrs. Cowl is survived by her loving children: Linda (Richard) Howard of Erin, NY; Sandra Sumers of Horseheads, NY; Genevieve "Ginger" (James) Austin-Cowan of Horseheads, NY; Richard (Brenda) Cowl of Elmira, NY; James (Billie-Jo) Cowl of Elmira, NY; Charles (Nancy) Cowl of Horseheads, NY; Melinda Cowl of Elmira Heights, NY; Bruce (Lori) Cowl of Horseheads, NY; Brian Cowl of Elmira Heights, NY; and Angela Holden of Virginia. Florence and her husband had a foster home on Watercure Hill Road and provided tender loving care to over 500 foster children. GERALD B. PRITCHARD Age 90, of Elmira, NY, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Elcor Health Services. Gerald was born June 23, 1914 in Elmira, NY, son of Ernest D. and Rena Fuller Pritchard. He was a 1932 graduate of EFA, and served in the US Army during WWII. Gerald married Dorothy E. Harter, the girl next door, December 21, 1935, and spent 67 wonderful years together. She predeceased him in December of 2002. Gerald was retired from the Elmira City Chamberlain's Office after over 30 years of faithful service. He then was employed for five years in the Arnot Hospital business office. Gerald was a lifetime member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, and with his talented baritone voice, sang in the choir for many years. His other interests included volunteering for many years at the Steele Memorial Library, and delivering Meals on Wheels. Always known as a quiet, kind, gentleman, many people knew him as the gardener that tended to the huge bed of geraniums at the Church St. Exit off Rt. 17, always waving to passers by. Surviving Gerald are his children and their spouses, Roy and Elizabeth Pritchard of Cheshire, CT, Loren Pritchard of Horseheads, Kay D. and William Rice of Montour Falls, Norma P. and Robert Carl of Elmira; grandchildren, Linda Pritchard, Stephen Pritchard, Stacey DeAngelis, Mark Rice, Dennis Rice, Holly Rice, Hillary Geiger, Janine Geiger; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. PRITCHARD Lauren C. Town of Southport Resident Was born February 2, 1927 in Watkins Glen, NY, the son of the late Fred and Nora May (Rice) Pritchard, died peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2006, at St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 79. His loving wife of 60 years, Marie M. (Comfort) Pritchard predeceased him. His brothers, Don and Fred Pritchard; and sister, Margaret Bennett, also preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Sharon Kelsey of Elmira Heights, NY, Lauren (James) Clark, Jacqueline Pritchard and Mary (David) Clark, all of Wellsburg, NY; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Joyce Weiskopf of Elmira Heights, NY; along with several nieces and nephews. Lauren was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during WWII. He retired from the Elmira City School District as a painter after several dedicated years of service. In his earlier years, Lauren enjoyed camping with his wife and family. He loved working on his computer, doing crossword puzzles and building, especially campers. PROCTOR   Robert J., Sr. Age 49, of 760 Harper Street died Saturday, September 1, 2001 at Robert Packer Hospital from injuries sustained in a logging accident. Bob was born January 19, 1952 in Wellsville, NY son of the late Norman and Susan (Elliott) Proctor. He was a graduate of Horseheads Central School and was employed at Kennedy Valve as a chipper for many years. Bob was an avid fisherman and member of the UE Local #329 and Trout Unlimited. Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years Anne (Potrzebowski) Proctor of Elmira his four sons and daughter-in-laws; Robert (Amy) Jr., Jeffrey (Kelly), Steven (Sunsi) and Kevin (Julie) Proctor all of Elmira, brothers; Roger (Gloria) of Gibson, Arnold of Elmira, Charles of Madera, CA and Kip of FL, sisters; Susan of Wellsville and Darlene of Madera, CA, four grandchildren, Steven, Sierra, Alexis and Caylin, several nieces, nephews and cousins. EDWARD R. PROULX, 87, of Elmira, NY passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016. He is predeceased by his wife, Ingrid Proulx; and former wife, Genevieve Proulx. Edward is survived by his sister, Theresa Crowley of MD; step-daughters, Cindy (Joseph) DeLaney, Gina (William) Colavito of NJ, Linda Ambrozik of WV, Joyce Wood of Elmira, and Mary Lou Ervay of Erin, NY; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of the St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Edward loved his Hardinge parties. He also enjoyed playing euchre and watching NASCAR races. Age 84, longtime resident of Robert Street in Southport, died January 1, 2011 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Born in Chemung to Ernest Jerome and Emma Samantha (Bennett) Pruyne. Predeceased by her beloved husband, George; sisters, Vera and Wilma; brother, Jerome. Survived by her children, Steven (Joan) of Tennessee, George (Carolyn) of North Carolina, Michael (Christel) of Elmira, and Timothy of Horseheads; daughters, Emma Jane (Gary) Stewart and Susan (Leon) VanAlstine, both of Elmira; as well as 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; best friends, Larry Huntley, Barbara and Allen Cole; her beloved Yorkie, Alphie. Betty loved her family, reading, and completing crossword puzzles. While her children attended school, she was active as PTA President, Cub Scout, Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She had a wonderful sense of humor, was a great cook, and believed education was the key to a successful future, pushing all of her children through college. QUICK Henry L.

Elmira: Age 94, died Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Bath VA. Henry was born in Valois NY, August 6, 1918 the son of Harry H. and Maeola (Bull) Quick. He is survived by his daughter, Marion Garicia, Ohio; grandchildren, Greg and Jeff Fielder, Delaware, Dawn Staugler, Ohio, Diana Porter, California; longtime friend, and care giver, Rose Ferguson, Elmira; along with several great grandchildren. Henry was a U. S. Army veteran serving in Europe during WWII where he took part in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a machinist retired from Hardinge, Inc. Henry built a cottage on Keuka Lake and enjoyed many summers there. A long time train enthusiast, he had a train track in his yard. Over an eight year period Henry built a steam engine and enjoyed many days giving people rides on his train. Henry was a member of the Big Flats Masons for over 50 years. A longtime resident of Southport died Tuesday morning, March 11, 2008 at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center following an illness at the age of 69. Born on November 27, 1938 Richard was the son of Ernest J. & Charlotte Butz Quick. He married Carol Ann Butts on September 14, 1960 in Elmira. A hard working man, Richard was employed by Kennedy Valve for over 30 years. His many interests included searching for antiques at auctions, repairing automobiles as a mechanic, and being a loving and supportive husband and father to his loving family who survive. Surviving is his loving family, his wife of 47 years, Carol Ann Butts Quick along with their children, Darlene (Chuck) Wandell; Jacquelyn (Chris) Cartwright; Robert (Dona' Maria) Quick; Victoria (John) Case; Damie (Jerry Woo) Quick; JoAnn (Chad Williamson) Quick; Sue (David) Sill; brothers, Tom (Bev) Quick and Ernie (Deb) Quick a sister, Sylvia (Rod) Tubbs; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many family friends. In addition to his parents, Richard was also predeceased by his sisters, Rosie, Emma and Frances; and his beloved granddaughter, Charlene Wandell.
