age 68 of Elmira. He was born September 28, 1952 in Elmira, NY, the son of the
late Floyd M. and Myrna J. (Becker) Hill, and died by suicide on Monday, October
26, 2020. He is survived by his wife: Zhixia (Zheng) Hill; his sons: Ted
(Michelle) Hill with their children Katie, Kristen, and Jeremy; Steven Hill with
his children Deven, Tatyanna, Stevie, and Stephanie; Vincent Hill; and David
Hill, Jr.; siblings Larry Hill, Terri Call, Deb Maxwell and Nancy Hill;
stepdaughters Tiyan Yan Tian, and YiYi Zheng; stepson YiJie Zheng; along with
several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends including
Joe & Lynn Sullivan, and Ray Willette of the Legion Riders Chapter 442. David
served in both the Air Force and the Marines; making a career of serving his
country. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family. His
hobbies included was horseback riding, wood working, and spending time with his
two dogs, Tucker and Ollie. Family and friends are invited to visit the Big
Flats Wesleyan Church, The Bridge, 561 Maple St, Big Flats, NY on Friday
November 13th 2020 from 3 pm to 5 pm. Masks will be required along with social
distancing in following the current guidelines. David's funeral service will be
held there on Saturday, November 14th 2020 at 11am. Pastor Alex Ruffer

Age 78, of Elmira, NY, died on Monday, December 31, 2012. He was born on June 19, 1934 in Corning, NY to the late Leon and Harriet (Button) Hills. Thomas was predeceased by his wife, Janice L. Hills and brothers, Leon Jr. and John Hills. He is survived by his sons, Timothy J. Hills of TN and Mark E. Hills of Watkins Glen; daughters, Donna J. Beardsley and Janet E. Mathews both of Watkins Glen; 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; friend, Yvonne Powers of Elmira; canine companion, "Teddy Bear"; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. HIMKO Anne B. Peters
96, of Titusville, Florida, died January 30, 2012, at her home. She was born in Corning, New York, on February 11, 1915, to the late Stephen and Mary Himko. Anne spent her younger years in Binghamton, New York. She was employed by Endicott Johnson Company in her earlier years and had a vast collection of dolls. She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy L. Corcoran and Irene Lucik; brother, Steve Himko; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, George "Clem" Burnell and Francis Peters; sisters, Marjorie Remza, Mary Himko and Anne Lynn; and brothers, John, Mike, George and Bill Himko. A Memorial Service will be held in Binghamton, New York, at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association . HIRSCHFELD Frederick L.
A longtime resident of the Crane Rd. Elmira, died Saturday morning, April 7,
2007 at Hospicare of Ithaca at the age of 59. Surviving is his loving family,
nieces, Malisa & Wayne Washington and Jennifer Hirschfeld, Corning; a
nephew, Carl & Brea Hirschfeld, Elmira; great nieces, Zoe and Tyra
Hirschfeld; a sister-in-law, Alice & Joseph Prinzivalli, Corning; Born on
July 13, 1947, Fred was the son of Carl A. & Susan Siedel Hirschfeld. He
was employed by Mill Brook for many years. An avid sportsman he enjoyed hunting
and fishing and time spent outdoors. Family and friends will be received at
Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Wednesday,
April 11, 2007 between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will take
place at the funeral home Thursday morning at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Donald

CHEREE L HITCHOCK age 47 of Pine City, NY passed
away in the arms of her loving mother and daughter and in the presence of
her family on May 5, 2020. Cheree fought a long, hard battle with cancer.
Cheree was born in Elmira, NY on September 26, 1972, daughter of James Rice
and Sarah Hitchcock. She was predeceased by her father, James, grandfather,
Robert "papa" Hitchcock and her grandmother, Sarah Casterline. Cheree is
survived by her mother, Sarah; sons, Kenneth and Jesse Flick and her
daughter, Lauren Flick; grandchildren, Jason, Jade, Herb, Bailey and Dawson
Flick and a grandchild Flick on the way; brother, James Rice; grandmother,
Marlene Hitchock; father of Cheree's children, Ken Flick; many aunts,
uncles, cousins and friends. Cheree loved her second family at Dements Candy
Factory in Big Flats. Cheree had two dear friends, Cindy and Shelly, for
which she loved dearly. Cheree liked cookouts in the front yard for friends
and family. She loved the holidays and her cat, Radar, along with her Great
Dane, Rosie, but her biggest joy was her children and grandchildren. A
private service was held for Cheree and she was laid to rest in Forest Lawn
Memorial Park on Monday, May 11th 2020. Arrangements were with James D.

Age 87, of Elmira, NY died
Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Marie was born
October 9th, 1922 in Gillett, PA, the daughter of the late Edward and Laura
(Wright) Hoagland. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carol
(Robert) Goodling of Cherryville, NC, Linda (Joseph) Holly of Pine City, Ann
(Keith) Osborne of Elmira; grandchildren, Christie (Nathan), Rob (Britton),
Sherry (Quintin), Cliff (Wendy), Amy (Josh), Dana (Steve), Leanne, Kathy
(Billy), Brian; and twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild;
also special nephew, Donald (Peggy) LeBaron. In addition to her parents, Marie
was predeceased by husband Chris, great-granddaughter Perry Elizabeth Goodling,
and sister Myrtle LeBaron. Marie enjoyed being a homemaker, traveling, solving
crossword puzzles and was an avid bowler for many years. She was a member of
the WIBC and the 600 Club. She loved her time spent with the Gillett Senior
Citizens Center and the many friendships she made through her Wednesday
afternoon group. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral
Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY Saturday, June 26th, 2010 from
10:00AM to 12:00PM. Funeral and committal services will follow the calling

HODGE -MADELINE M. HETRICK "Tiny" of Horseheads,
NY - She was called home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at
the age of 86. Madeline was born on November 7, 1934 in Elmira, NY, a
daughter of the late George and Lorena Southard Hodge. She was pre-deceased
by her husband Harry Hetrick Sr. She is survived by her children, Karen
Hetrick, Harry (Debbie) Hetrick Jr., George Hetrick, Bill (Kathy) Hetrick,
Sally (Neil) Cory Jr.; and Belena Krusen; several grandchildren, great
grandchildren, only surviving sister, Lillian Reynolds and many nieces,
nephews, cousins and extended family members. The family will welcome
relatives and friends to her viewing at Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E.

HOFBAUER K. THERESE MERIWETHER
K. Therese (Hofbauer) Age 89, of Elmira, went to be with our Lord, Thursday,
August 30, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Therese currently resided at
Woodbrook, but had previously lived on Camden Avenue in Horseheads. She was
born June 29, 1918, a daughter of Joseph and Katherine Baumann Hofbauer. Therese
is predeceased by her husband, Milton W. Meriwether; brothers, John, Clement
and Owen Hofbauer; sister, Ann Enyedy; and son-in-law, Michael Oakley. She is
survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Vincent J. (Donna) Meriwether of
Round Rock, TX, F. Joseph (Nancy) Meriwether of Elmira, NY, Leslie P. (Sandi)
Meriwether of Clearwater, FL; daughters and sons-in-law, Julie A. (Stephen)
Bonning of Baltimore, MD, Kathy A. Oakley of Elmira, NY and Carol A. (Paul)
Griggs of Wynantskill, NY; 13 grandchildren and their spouses; 16
great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Wayne Thomas of Towanda, PA; niece, Karen
(Robert Breunig) Enyedy of Flagstaff, AR, along with several other nieces and
nephews. Therese grew up on her family's hilltop farm in Pine City. The land is
now the site of Mount Saviour Monastery. A graduate of Elmira College, Therese
was a home/substitute teacher in the Elmira and Horseheads School Districts.
She had a great love of the outdoors, enjoying walking, bird watching and
gardening. A devout Catholic her entire life, Therese was a long time
communicant and active member of St. Charles Borremeo Church, before joining
Ss. Peter & Paul Church in the mid 1980's. Family and friends are invited
to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of Water and Walnut Sts., on Sunday, September
2, 2007 for calling hours from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A prayer service will be
held at the funeral home on Monday, September 3, 2007 at 10:15 a.m., followed
by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Ss. Peter & Paul Church.
Private interment will follow on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Forest Lawn

Randall O. 'Randy' Jr. Retired Police Officer Age 80, of Chester Street,
Elmira, NY. Randy was born October 28, 1924 in Berwick, PA, the son of the late
Randall O. and Mary (Sult) Holden Sr., died peacefully on Saturday, August 13,
2005, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. His son, Glen Holden; and his brother,
Gerald Holden, also predeceased Randy. He is survived by his loving wife of 53
years, Shirley (Barrows) Holden; beloved children, Randy (Kim) Holden of
Horseheads, NY, Linda (John) Hall of Wellsburg, NY, Mary (Charles) Jankowski of
Louisville, KY, Harvey (Terri) Holden of Pine City, NY, Bonnie Monteleone of
Wilmington, NC, Susan (Danny) Mettler of Elmira, NY; siblings, Gene Holden,
Harvey (Norma) Holden, George 'Joe' (Elizabeth) Holden, Roberta (Eric) Mueller
and Steve (Diana) Holden; sister-in-law, Peggy Holden; along with 14 much-loved
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many
friends. A WW II Veteran of the US Army, Randy retired from the Elmira Police
Department after 33 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Cashmere
Grotto, Union-Cooley Masonic Lodge #95 F & AM, Clarence Oliver American
Legion Post #154, and a faithful member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Randy also coached Small Fry Baseball for 20 years. He was a passionate
gardener as well as an avid Corning East High School Football fan. Family and

Ave., Elmira, on Thursday, August 18, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.Funeral
services honoring Randy's life will be held there on Friday, the 19th at 1:00

in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, where the Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad

Bethany Manor in Horseheads, NY. Marian was born on July 27, 1925 in Elmira,
daughter of the late Raymond and Cora (Wood) Hollander. Survivors include her
daughters, Carol (Joe) Comfort of CA, Sandi (Bob) Peterson of Horseheads, NY
and Cindy Christensen of Ithaca, NY; sons, Howard Jr. and James Christensen,
both of AZ; sisters, Florence Crowell of MA and Doris Ann Thomas of LA;
brother, Ronald Hollander of Rochester, NY; grandchildren, Desiree, James Jr.,

Age 81, of Carpenter's Apartments, Elmira, NY. She was born June 7, 1926 in
Elmira, daughter of the late Albert and Mabel Hornbeck and died Monday,
December 31, 2007, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She was predeceased by
her husband, Walter in 1997; grandson, Nathaniel Alexander in 2005; and
daughter-in-law, Barbara in 2006. She is survived by children and their
spouses, Gary Locke with fiancée, Mary Eckles of Elmira, David and Beadie Locke
of Horseheads, Mary and Tim Stage of Elmira, Daryl and Helen Locke of Elmira;
grandchildren, Erica, John, David J., Tristan, Brieanne, Vinney, Brian,
Justina, Stephanie, Ashley, Kelsey and Madisyn; five great-grandchildren;
sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Harvey Houston of Aurora, CO, Barbara and

HORTON of Henrietta, N.Y., passed peacefully at his home on Jan. 7, 2015
at age 88. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Wilhelmina
"Willie" Horton of Henrietta; children, Edwin (Susan) Horton of Idaho, Judy
(Stephen) Schneider of Farmington, N.Y., and Darlene (Paul) Roloson of Avon,
N.Y.; sisters, Thelma Hilliker and Doris Lindsey; brothers, Ellery (Myrna)
Horton and Clair (Marjory) Horton; grandchildren, Melanie (Rich)
DellaPietra, Matthew Schneider, Andrew Roloson, Josiah Roloson and Deanna
Horton; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Alexander DellaPietra; several
nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and sister, Muriel
Lafy. Mr. Horton was born on March 28, 1926, the son of Ernest and Luella
Horton. Emerson was a farmer in Pennsylvania and in 1959, moved his family
to Anaheim, Calif. He worked at Rockwell in the aviation industry as an
electronics technician. His family eventually moved back East, where he
worked for the Eastman Kodak Co. until his retirement in 1986. On Saturday
at 11 a.m., his memorial service will be held at the North Rome Wesleyan
Church, 3374 North Rome Road, Rome, Pa. Private interment will be in Forest
Lawn Memorial Park, Elmira, N.Y. Memorials may be made to the Avon Wesleyan

Ida - BATES, Ida Jean Horton Strong
Age 103, of Elmira Heights, left our world amidst kisses on Sunday,
January 24, 2010. Ida was born on February 24, 1906 in Seven Bridges, PA to
Robert W. and Louisa Lehmann Horton. She is predeceased by her husbands,
Richard Strong and Willard Bates; daughter, Audrey Walker; sons-in-law, Vincent
Link and Charles Walker; and grandson, Dana Stermer. She is survived by her
daughters, Virginia Bailey of Southport, Edna Link of Elmira Heights and Janet
Stermer of Horseheads; as well as 8 stepchildren and their families. Grandma
leaves 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren
who will never forget her smile or blue eyes. Ida loved horses, farming,
gardening, bowling, square dancing, fishing, reading, traveling and so much
more. The family is eternally grateful to Peter Marks and Catlynne Arkin for

Elmira, age 84, died April 10, 2015 at Oak Hill Memorial Hospital in Spring
Hill, FL. Jewel attended St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Hudson, FL as well
as Emanuel Episcopal Church in Elmira. She was very involved and enjoyed her
many activities in the church. While living in Florida, she served as
Guardian Ad Litem for abused children and on the Board of Directors for
Habitat for Humanity. She was predeceased by her husband of 31 years, Jay
Tremain Goldsmith; her parents, Glen and Ella Horton; and sister, Glynia
Horton. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (John) Seymour of Pine
City; sons, Gerald (Stephanie) Goldsmith of Charlotte, NC; and Daniel
(Sandra) Goldsmith of Elmira; grandchildren, Michael Seymour of Webb Mills,
Heather Sheldon of Webb Mills, Jay and Kailee Goldsmith of Charlotte, NC;
Cody, Ian, and Kaitlyn Goldsmith of Elmira; great grandchildren Carissa
Lewis, Jewel Seymour, Aidan & Morgan Sheldon, and Peytyn Seymour. Jewel

HORTON Mabel M. Maier
91, a resident of 123 Grove St., South Williamsport, formerly of Corning, N.Y.,
died on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, in the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
Born in Corning, Steuben County, N.Y., on Monday, May 26, 1919, she was the
daughter of the late Fred and Mabel (Louy) Horton. Mabel was the widow of
Albert H. Maier, who preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1978. They were united
in marriage on Feb. 2, 1952, in Corning. Mabel was a 1936 graduate of Bradford
Central School at Bradford, N.Y. She had formerly been employed by the Corning
Glass Works at Corning. Mabel was a member of the Clinton Baptist Church at
Montgomery and had previously been a member of Grace United Methodist Church at
Corning for over 30 years. She attended the Senior Citizens Center at Corning.
Mabel enjoyed working crossword puzzles, gardening and decorating her home and
had a love for animals. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah
M. and Larry LeFeber, South Williamsport; one sister, Winifred Tucker, Addison,
N.Y.; one brother, Clarence R. Horton, Painted Post, N.Y. A memorial service
will be conducted from the Clinton Baptist Church, 60 Warren St., Montgomery at
11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, with Reverend Larry A. LeFeber, her
son-in-law, officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park,

age 69 was born Aug. 2, 1946 to Allen and Carrie (Carroll) Hosley. God took
him home Dec. 25, 2015 following the diagnosis (Sept. 28th) of Non-Hodgkin's
Lymphoma. He suffered mightily - fighting to stay with us. Jim was a
lifelong resident of Chemung County's Southside - graduating from SHS in
1964. He served our Country during the Viet Nam Era in the Air Force as a
Linguist. Some folks may remember Jim as "Big Jim" when he worked for
Liddy's and then HT Bergh's as an Auto Mechanic, or from 1982-2001, when he
worked as a Postal Clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. In 1997, he was
diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency and has worked consistently
since then to educate himself and others about this Genetic Condition that
affects the Lungs and / or Liver in those affected. He has served as a Local
Support Leader for the Alpha-1 Association and (more recently) for the
Alpha-1 Foundation since the 2 organizations merged. His wife will continue
his efforts locally. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Carol (Elliott)
Hosley, his siblings: Walter (Chris) Hosley, Phillip (Donna) Hosley, Altah
(Mike) Birkholz and Lois (Paul) Nugent, 3 children: Lisa Hosley, Tim
(Casandra Stone-Pardy) and Tina (Dan) Tyler, 7 biological grandchildren, and
7 "unofficially adopted" grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Viewing
is scheduled for 1:30 - 4:30 with dinner at 4:30 at the First Nazarene

Age 99, died peacefully at the Chemung County Nursing Facility on Wednesday,
October 22, 2003. The daughter of the late Charles L. & Flora DuBois
Hotchkiss, Bertha was born in Cayuta, NY, on January 31, 1904. She was
predeceased by her loving husband, Herbert McCann, & four daughters, She is
survived by her daughter, Pearl McCann, of Elmira; sisters Pearl May &
Jeanette Hotchkiss; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces &
nephews, her loving family will miss her deeply. Every time we cook a pot of stew

HOTCHKISS Jack S.
Age 78, died at the Buffalo VA on December 18, 2007. Jack was born in Elmira,
NY on November 12, 1929. He spent his life as a painter and decorator. He loved
animals, especially his cats. Mr. Hotchkiss was predeceased by his wife of 34
years, Irene, in 1999. They enjoyed fishing together. He is survived by his
sisters, June Wilcox of Elmira, Edith Tallman of Newfield; and several nieces
and nephews and grandnieces and nephews. He served his country during the
Korean War from 1951-1953. He was a steadfast member of the American Legion and
enjoyed many friendships. Family and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m.

Of Pennsylvania Ave. Southport, NY died peacefully Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at St. Joseph's Hospital following an illness at the age of 76. Leonard was born on June 5, 1924 in Thurston, NY son of the late Merrit and Rose Morris Houghtaling. He served in the United States Marines during WWII. Leonard was employed by American LaFrance for many years. He enjoyed being active and was known for his carpentry work, having worked in many of the homes here in Southport. Leonard also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and time spent with his grandchildren and family. 16, 2015 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by

special cousins Richard and Eileen Svetz; many friends and neighbors
including close and dear friends Mike Smith, Lois Jones, Colleen Kowulich, &
Pearl Decker. Carol loved her family and friends and treasured the time
spent with them. She was an excellent cook and gardener which she generously
shared with everyone. She loved camping and going to the lake. She was a
loving and generous person who always had a surprise or treat for her great
nieces and nephews. Carol was gifted and talented in glass designing and
will be remembered for her infectious smile and sense of humor and for her
generosity to all she came in contact with. She graduated from EFA Class of
1967 and the Elmira Business Institute. She was a communicant of Blessed
Sacrament Parish. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Kalec

Age 94 of Bethany Courtyards, Horseheads, NY. She was
born August 21, 1917 in Garfield, NJ, daughter of the late August and Rose
(Macek) Hrasdzira and died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at St, Joseph's Hospital. In
addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother August Hrasdzira
and sister Louise Svetz. Hattie is survived by her nieces and nephews Amy
Rodabaugh of Horseheads, Roger (Ruth) Hrasdzira of Big Flats, Kenneth Hrasdzira
of Binghamton, Karen (Jim) Janeski of Elmira, Carol Hrasdzira of Horseheads and
Richard (Eileen) Svetz of Cape Coral, FL along with several great nieces and
nephews; great, great nieces and nephews and many cousins. Hattie retired from
A&P Foods, having been one of the first hired and one of the last to leave
at the Horseheads plant. Her life was devoted to her family. She was thoughtful
and caring, the first one to offer help, the first one with a card. She loved
all the family gatherings and parties and enjoyed going to the lake and her
Sunday afternoon drives with her niece Carol. Her favorite pastime was bingo and
she was the "bingo queen" at the Courtyards. Family and friends are

N.Y. passed away Saturday, August 22, 2020 at home with her loving family by
her side following a courageous battle with cancer. Susan was born January
9, 1954 in Elmira daughter of the late Robert Hugg and Gladys (Seymour) Hugg
who survives. She was dedicated retiree of the Binghamton Psychiatric Center
where she was the Assistant to the Director of Medical Operations. Susan was
a forty year plus member of the Faith Tabernacle Church, she also found
great joy in giving and was a literacy volunteer for ten years, donor to the
foodbanks, local homeless shelters, the Buffalo City Mission and always put
others before herself. Survivors include her mother and step father Gladys &
Thomas Kingsley McLean of Waverly, her loving son and daughter in law,
Michael (Megan LeSuer) Glosenger of Horseheads, a sister, Bonnie Hugg of

He was a veteran of the US Army with active combat duty during WW II, receiving
a purple heart for injuries he received in the Battle of the Bulge. Eldon loved
nature, fishing, hunting and took great pride in his garden which he generously

on Friday, November 26, 2010. Harriett was born February 16, 1930 in Tioga, PA

29, 1947 to the late Kenneth E. Elston, Sr. Harriett and her husband owned and
operated Ken's Diner in Wellsburg, NY and later were proprietors of the New
Fort Reed Tavern. She was a former member of the North Chemung Methodist
Church. Her interests included watching the NY Yankees, working puzzles and
most important the time she spent with her family. Survivors include her

KENNETH W.
HUGHES age 91 of Elmira, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February
24, 2015 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Ken was born May 7, 1923 in
Nelson Twp., PA. The eldest of ten children and the son of the late William
Clarence and Louisa (Jones) Hughes, he was a big part in helping the family
when they moved to their Lowman farm during the depression in the 1930's.
Ken was a tireless worker who ran a dairy farm for years and was also
employed by the US Postal Service and worked at the Processing Center on
Sullivan St in Elmira until he retired. He rarely sat idle, always finding
stuff to tinker with. He was a master of farmyard engineering and could fix
most anything with hay wire and a board. Ken enjoyed helping others. He
often took senior friends to appointments and would help with any of their
needs volunteering through RSVP. He volunteered and sat on the Board of
Directors with Child Character Education. Ken loved growing vegetables and
received great joy in sharing his harvest including picking fruit from the
orchards in lake country. He was a Master Mason Breesport Lodge #725 F&AM
with 66 years of membership. Ken had great faith in God and attended church
when able. Ken looked after all the family and would help out if he saw a
need. He truly was the Patriarch of the Hughes family and filled those shoes
well! He will be fondly remembered and missed by all of us. Family and

HUHTA Bernard L., Sr.
Age 63, of Elmira, NY. He was born October 5, 1945 in Elmira, son of the late
Arnold John and Margaret (Hodge) Huhta, and died Sunday, December 7, 2008, at
the Chemung County Nursing Facility after an extended illness. In addition to
his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Bonnie (Groom) Huhta in 2007; and
brother, David in 2005. Bernie is survived by his children, Albert Huhta and
Regina Hartman, both of Elmira and Bernard Huhta, Jr. of FL; seven
grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; his in-laws, the Groom family of
Elmira. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with

SIMEON M. HUGHSON JR., born September 20, 1925, age 92, of Lowman, NY, passed away on July 11, 2018 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility (CCNF). Simeon was predeceased by his parents, Simeon and Doris (Crane) Hughson, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty, of 39 years; sons, Simeon Hughson III and Tara of Albany, NY, Richard Hughson and Mary Mc Fee of Rochester, NY, Andy Hughson of Columbia Crossroads, PA; daughter, Lee O'Connell and Joe of Corning, NY; bonus children, Roger and Chris McCann of Sun City, FL, Fred and Betty Baldock of Painted Post, NY, Sandra and Wayne Freeman of Lowman, NY, Donna and Louie Daugherty of PA, Shirley and Victor Zurn of Wellsburg, NY, Bonnie and Michael Hamilton of Elmira, NY, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Simeon lived as a child in many foster homes. He joined the Navy at 17 in 1943, the Carrier Aircraft Service, Unit 63, at the Naval Air Station, in Holtville, California. After the war, he had a look-see from the Brooklyn Dodgers, interested in his pitching arm. The Dodgers said good-bye four days later because at 21 he was "too old." He was a semi-pro football player and boxer. He loved to ride and race motorcycles. Later in life, his favorite hobby was building motorized model airplanes. Simeon made a living working with his hands for 9 years at Schweizer Aircraft as a welder. He was in charge of welding at the A&P Plant in Horseheads. He joined Hilliard Corp. in Elmira two years later, and retired in 1988. Simeon was a man of few words and a kind and gentle soul, who preferred to listen and learn. At Simeon's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Interment will be in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. Dorothy was born August 23, 1937 to the late Clara (Williams), who died in 1987, and Albert Hurlburt, Sr., in 1999. Dorothy was predeceased by her daughter, Georgia Ann Debaridinis, in 1979. Dorothy spent most of her life raising her children. Died on Monday December 17, 2012 at the age of 94 at Founder's Pavilion in Corning, NY. She was born in Belleviille, Arkansas the daughter of John Anderson James and Mary Frances Suggs James. The family moved by wagon to a farm in Rush Springs, Oklahoma in 1934 and then moved to Texarkana, Texas. Frances had five children, Edythe Frances, Horace (Buddy), James Raymond, William Thomas, and LaJaunah Berneice. Her sons Horace and William, her daughter Edythe and grandson James, her brothers Jesse, Ishamael, and Thomas Clyde (Sam), and her sister Berneice and her husband Dave Lairson preceded her in death. Frances had twelve grandchildren: Kenneth, Leia, Christopher, Colby, James, Jamie, Colleen, Peggy, J. Weldon, John R., Alan, and Norene. She had nineteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins including a niece Ruby and nephew Mike. Frances married James Gardner (Chief) in 1948 and he died in 1959. Frances moved to New York to be with her daughter LaJaunah in 2000. husband of 68 years, William H. Lawrence on March 16, 2019; brothers and

HORSEHEADS - Evelyn M. Rounsville age 59, of 16 Valley Avenue, Horseheads died
Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She is survived by
her husband of 39 years, Frederick L. Rounsville; a daughter, Barbara Carolson;
a son and daughter-in-law, Edwin and Robin Rounsville; five grandchildren:
Nichole, Typhanie, Seth, Hannah Rounsville and Britany Carolson; a brother,
Edwin Jay of Forest City, PA; sisters, Ella Rupocinski of Las Vegas, NV, Lucy
McGreal of Titusville, FL, Lois and Dominic Allegrino of Binghamton; a
brother-in-law, Ken Austin and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased
by her parents, Edwin and Geneieve Jay and sister, Helen Austin. Her hobbies
were collecting recipes, crafting and playing with her grandchildren. Evelyn
was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Gibson where she taught
Sunday School for 30 years. She was a volunteer at the Horseheads Christian
School for 28 years and cleaned for the elderly at Villa Serene for 15 years.
She was a loving and wonderful mother and wife and an asset to her family and

JAYNES Eleanor E. (Ellie) Gingrich
born January 21, 1923 and died on December 21, 2011 with
several family members at her side. She went to be with her previously deceased
Husband Francis A. "Pud" Gingrich Sr. the love of her life. The
daughter of Benjamin and Sophie (Bridge) Jaynes was a graduate of Elmira Free
Academy and worked at Eclipse in Elmira Heights on the Norden Bomb sight during
WW II. After the war she was employed by Westinghouse as an Electronics Tester
on Cathode Ray tubes. After her retirement she worked at the Watkins Glen
Elementary School cafeteria and at the State Park in the summer. She also
volunteered at Schuyler Hospital. She was a loving, devoted Mother and
Grandmother. Mrs. Gingrich is survived by her children, Francis A. &
Virginia Gingrich Jr., David & Bernadette Gingrich, Deborah Grinolds &
Kevin Bailey, Janett & Harold Russell; Grandchildren, Wendy Gingrich

Edith Mabel (Jebbett) (Barnesie) A lifelong resident of Southport, NY, died
January 31, 2006 at Bethany Manor on her 93rd birthday. She was born in England
on January 31, 1913 to Ernest and Mabel Jebbett, who preceded her in death.
Edith immigrated to the United States in 1913 on the Lusitania and married
Joseph Frederick Barnes on December 31, 1932. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She was also predeceased by her son, Private First Class Richard Barnes in
1966; two grandsons, Richard Barnes and Scott Barnes; along with several other
family members. Edith is survived by her sons, David (Nancy), Ronald (Sheila),
Gerald and Fred (Sheila); daughters, Mary (Tommie) Osenbaugh, Alberta (Kenneth)
Andrus; brothers, Ernest and Stanley Jebbett; sister, Alice Gallanger; 18
grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and good friends,
Betty Aiken, Loretta Howe, and Ellen Carpenter. Edith was well known for her
smile and great disposition. She was very proud of her children. Edith worked
many years at the former Iszards, the former Sears Warehouse, and Gibson's
Vineyards. She enjoyed making quilts for her family and friends. She also loved
to go to church, and attended Elmira Wesleyan Church. She loved gospel music

DANIEL T. JENKINS SR., age 84 of 118 Renwick Lane Horseheads, NY died on Sunday March 25, 2001 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Daniel was born September 27, 1916 in Blossburg, Pennsylvania the son of the late Thomas Carlyle Jenkins and Ruth Putnam Jenkins. He married his beloved wife, Mary Pabis Jenkins, on August 15, 1934 and they would have celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary on August 15, 2001. He was the former owner of Danny's Coffee Pot in Elmira, NY and Danny's Grocery on Sing Sing Road in Horseheads, NY. Mr. Jenkins was the past president of I. Putnam, Inc. in Elmira, NY. His love and kindness for his family and friends as well as his zest for life endeared him to all. He will be truly missed by those who loved him and called him their friend. Age 81 of Horseheads, NY died on Thursday July 19, 2007. Dorothy was born in

CHARLES H. JERZAK, age 90 of Millerton, PA, went
home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wed. July 22, 2020 while residing at
Sayre Health Care Center. Born on April 6, 1930; Chuck was the son of the
late, Walter & Mary Wheeler Jerzak. He married the love of his life, Thelma
"Peggy" Shoemaker on Jan. 13, 1957. In addition to her, he is survived by
their children, Leslie "Les" C. (Rose) Jerzak, Elmira; Lisa (Dave) Vieira,
Pine City; grandchildren, Eric Daniel Jerzak, Nicholas (Madi Kelly) Vieira,
and Luke Vieira; a brother, Arnold Jerzak, Caton; nieces, nephews and
cherished family friends. Chuck was predeceased by his beloved grandsons,
Matthew & Michael Vieira; sister, Alma (Robert) Sellard; brother, Walter
"Junie" (Betty) Jerzak; and sister-in-law, Jackie Jerzak. Chuck retired from
Powers Manufacturing. He was a charter member of the Millerton Wesleyan
Church where he was very active from its construction, a trustee, board
member and Sunday School Teacher. He enjoyed NASCAR, bird watching and
spending time with his 5 grandsons. In service to his country, Chuck served
in the US Army from 1951 - 1953 spending part of that time in Japan during

JERZAK was born September 16, 1999 in Elmira, the youngest daughter of
Amy L. (Brooks) and Tony M. Jerzak, passed away very unexpectedly on Sunday,
August 9, 2015 at the age of 15. She is survived by her loving parents, Amy
and Tony; sisters, Tricia Ashley and her children, Dana, Tristan and Jackie,
Brittany Jerzak (fiancée Justin White) and Emily Jerzak (fiancée Andrew Van
Skiver); and their son, Andrew; paternal grandparents, Gary and Susan
Jerzak; maternal grandmother, Sherry (Joey) Vincent; maternal grandfathers,
Edwin Brooks and PaPa Abraham Crawley; along with several other relatives
and many friends. Hannah was always willing to lend a hand and help others.
She volunteered frequently and was especially fond of volunteering at The
Bridge in Sayre, PA. Hannah was an outstanding softball player with
Southport Recreation Association and was looking forward to her Junior year
at Elmira High. She absolutely loved country music and her camouflage.

Age 71, of Millport, NY, and formerly of Horseheads, NY, died Saturday morning,
September 1, 2007, after a long and brave battle with cancer. She was the
daughter of the late William and Verna Soper Jerzak. Nellie is survived by her
husband of 47 years, Joseph Castellano. She retired with Joseph as owner of
Joe's Exterminating Co. in Horseheads, NY. She is survived by granddaughter,
Ashley Castellano and daughter-in-law, Michele Castellano of Concord, NC;
stepchildren, son, Joseph T. Castellano of Bakerfield, CA, daughter, Patricia
(David) Camacho of Chatsworth, CA, Marsha (Jim) Pinkston of Old Hickory, TN;
sister, Barbara (Ron) Earnest of Lowman, NY; brother, Martin Jerzak Sr. of
Erin, NY, Floyd (Sharon) Jerzak of Davenport, FL; grandchildren, Kelly, Joelle,
Kimberly, Christine and Michael; nine great-grandchildren plus one expected
later this month and many nieces, nephew and cousins. She was pre-deceased by
her son, Harold (Willie) Castellano; sister, Marian Steckler; brothers, William

Horseheads Moose Club and a member of the Horseheads American Legion. She was
also an avid card player, loved her family and enjoyed entertaining her many

ERNEST (ERNIE) JUNE, age 72 of Elmira, NY, very unexpectedly, Tuesday, July 22, 1997 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY. Ernie is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Betty Ward June; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lynn June of Elmira, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Rothchild of Horseheads, NY; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ernie owned and operated the Ernie June Drive Shaft Repair shop in Elmira for over 45 years. He was an expert welder who built many race cars, model airplanes and saw mills. This season would have been Ernie’s 50th year in Modified and super modified racing. He raced at many area pavement and dirt tracks including Owego, Corning Stadium, Chemung Speed Drome, and Oswego Speedway. Ernie was a devoted family man who was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. He loved animals of all varieties. and Bette (Ward) June passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at
the Arnot Ogden Medical Center at the age of 65. She is survived by her
loving husband of 28 years, David B. Rothchild; sons and daughter-in-laws,
Matthew and Amanda Swasta of West Virginia, Noel and Catie Swasta of
Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Courtney, Ashley and Christopher, Zachary,
Elijah and Caleb; great-grandchildren, Hudson, Alayna, Colton and Ayden;

canine companions who also survive her. She was an accomplished musician who
played the 12 string acoustic guitar and had a mastery of harmony. She had a

Ann and Douglas Logan of Maryland with children, Caitlin; Russell with

Kane of Elmira, with wife Sue and his sons, Thomas; Matthew with his wife
Yuriko and children, Liam and Lila; brother, Brother Alan "Stanley" Jurusik

the Korean War. He retired from Hardinge Brothers, Inc., after many years of

American Legion Post #154, and was a long-time volunteer with St. Joseph's
Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility. He was a blood donor for most of his
adult life, proud to have donated over 35 gallons of blood. Don was a long

p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday,
September 11, 2019 at 10:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at
11:00 a.m., Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 161 High Street, Elmira. Military
honors will be accorded outside of the church at the conclusion of the Mass.
Interment will take place on Thursday, September 12, 2019, Forest Lawn

JURUSIK John J.
Age 80, of Elmira Heights, died peacefully at home on Saturday, June 6, 2009.
John was a son of the late Peter and Mary Sherant Jurusik. He was predeceased
by his brother Gene Jurusik. John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary
Morgan Jurusik; children, with their spouses, Douglas M. and Joann Jurusik of
Penfield NY, Daniel M. and Marian Jurusik of Big Flats, David W. Larrabee of
Elmira Heights, Mary Beth Taylor of Salisbury MD, Johanna M. and Mike Wolfe of
Big Flats, Lisa A. and Tomas Wheeler of Pine City, Angela C. and Jeffrey
Cavaluzzi of Elmira Heights and Jason M. Jurusik of Pine City; 35
grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Josephine Colville of Michigan,
Marjorie Bates with husband Arthur of Albany NY; brother Dr. Paul Jurusik with
wife Mary Ann of Elmira; sister-in-law Jean Jurusik of Elmira Heights;
brother-in-law James Morgan of Elmira Heights; several nieces and nephews. John
was retired as head custodian from Cohen School with over 30 years of service.
John loved to work in his garden and he enjoyed "bending your ear."
His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great
grandchildren. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water
and Walnut Streets on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A
funeral service will follow at 7:15 p.m. Committal prayers and interment will
be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Thursday, June 11th at 12:00 noon. Donations
in John's memory may be directed to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning
