Alverta went home to angels and her husband of 62 years, Lynn on Tuesday, April 22, 2003. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Lynn and Grace Comfort of Knoxville, TN, Phillip and Peggy Comfort of Pine City, NY, Alan and Lillian Comfort of Pine City, NY, Ronald and Donna Comfort of Elmira, NY; sister, Thelma Tifft of Horseheads, NY; 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Alverta loved listening and dancing to country and polka music. She was a very devoted homemaker, mother, and grandmother, famous for her chocolate chip cookies. Along with baking, she loved being around people and working in her flower beds. D’ALOISIO Mary C. (D'Aloisio) PATELUNAS
Age 81 of Elmira Heights, NY. She was born May 30, 1931 in Elmira, daughter of the late Americo and Stella (DeSocio) D'Aloisio and died Saturday, January 19, 2013 peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital with loving family at her side. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Frank Patelunas on June 22, 1989 and brothers and sister-in-law Michael and Josephine D'Aloisio and Fred D'Aloisio. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law Marcus and Diane Patelunas of Elmira and Gary Patelunas of Elmira Heights; grandson Marcus (Holly) Patelunas, Jr. and great granddaughter Lily Patelunas of Horseheads; sister-in-law Grace D'Aloisio of Elmira along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary retired form Elcor Health Services as Dietary Supervisor with 20 years of service and then was employed with Curly's Chicken House for 10 years. She was an avid bingo player. Barbara A. Formerly of Elmira and secretary at the Cenentary Methodist Church,
died in Batavia, October 6, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and
Evagelina Dalton. Mother of Diane Bannister and Michael Romanov. Also survived
by two grandchildren; one great-grandson, nieces and nephews. Services 10 a.m.,
Monday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia,
followed by graveside services at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. Memorials

JAMES E. DANAHER age 80 of Hoseheads passed away
peacefully at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center on Monday, November 25, 2019.
Jim is the son of the late John and Mary Shippos Danaher. He was predeceased
by his wife Nancy Gillette Danaher in 2009. Jim is survived by daughter
Julie D. Navone of Horseheads with her son Stephan M. Navone; daughter and
son-in-law Deborah D. and William G. Brady, Sr. of Victor NY with their
sons, William G., Jr. and Matthew J. Brady; brothers and sisters-in-law,
Edwin and Candace Danaher of Sarasota FL, Robert and Femy Danaher of
California; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Calvin R. and Barbara
Gillette of Elmira, Catherine G. Hanrahan of Elmira; several nieces, nephews
and cousins; beloved canine companion Gabby. Jim was a NYS Corrections
Officer retiring from the Elmira Correctional Facility. He enjoyed fishing,
bowling, golfing and playing cards. Family and friends are invited to

2019 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 5:15 p.m.

DANNELLEY - DICKINSON, Dorothy M.
Age 83 of Elmira, NY. She was born December 21, 1925 in Elmira Heights,
daughter of the late Melvin and Myrtle (Bryan) Dannelley, and died Sunday, June
21, 2009, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. She was predeceased by her
husband of 60 years, John F. Dickinson on April 4, 2006; brothers, Raymond and
Donald Dannelley; sisters, Irene Paulo and Eva Cook; and is survived by her
daughters and son-in-law, Gaynell Parker of Tallahassee, FL, Rose and Dale
VanAtta of Elmira; sister, Lucille Coolbaugh of AZ; 6 grandchildren, 11
great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Dickinson was
a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 154, Elmira Heights and the Golden
Glow Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary. Family and friends are invited to visit

DANNER - PIERCE, Betty
Age 78, of Elmira, NY, died peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2009, at the Arnot
Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Betty was born on July 10, 1930 in
Herzogenaurach, Germany. She retired from Thatcher Glass in Elmira Heights
after many years of service. Survivors include her children, Frank W. (Vicki)
Pierce, Joyce (Charles) Fiscus, Martha (Gary) Lambert, Darlyn (Kevin) Siuda and
Alfred (Grace) Pierce; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Kathi
Danner. Betty is predeceased by her husband, Frank R. Pierce; brothers, Willy
and Theo Danner. Family and friends are invited to call Wednesday, March 18th,
from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral
services will be held there on Thursday, March 19th, at 12:30 p.m. with Fr.

DARRIN Alberta J. “Bertie”
CLEMENS Alberta J. "Bertie" Age 75, formerly of Rte. 78, Prattsburgh,
NY, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Three Rivers Nursing Facility in Painted
Post, NY. Alberta was born in Tyrone, NY, daughter of the late Charles and
Sophronia (Champlin) Darrin. Alberta retired from Ira Davenport Hospital in
Bath, NY, after many years of service as an LPN. She will always be known for
her compassion and dedication to her patients as an LPN. Survivors include son,
Jack (Mary) Clemens of Big Flats, NY; daughters, Jean (Larry) Larson of Sterling
Heights, MI, Jeannice (Kenneth) Schrock of Elmira, NY, and Mellisa McRorie of
Buffalo, NY; brother, Frank (Louise) Darrin of Pultney, NY; sister-in-law,
Norma Darrin of Pultney, NY; 15 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild. Alberta was predeceased by her sister, Rosemary Darrin;
and her brother, Chuck Darrin. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial
Service in memory of Alberta on Sunday, March 19, 2006, at 2:30 p.m., with Rev.

DAUGHERTY Ralph R.
Age 82 of Windsor Rd., Horseheads, died unexpectedly April 30, 2008 while
wintering in Florida. Ralph was born July 20, 1925 in Endicott, NY, the son to
the late Ralph and Dorothy (Lilly) Daugherty. He is survived by his loving wife
of 62 years, Betty (Miller) Daugherty; sons and daughters-in-law, Joel (Donna
Morgan) Daugherty of Elmira Heights, NY, Martin (Janice) Daugherty of
Horseheads, NY; daughter-in-law, Kay Daugherty of Navarre, FL; grandchildren,
Timothy (Kim) Daugherty and Melissa Daugherty of Florida, Marisa Daugherty and
Matthew Daugherty of Elmira Heights; step grandchildren, Ashlyn and Jason
Keyser of Horseheads; many brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews.
Also predeceased was their son, Michael Daugherty, in 2005. Ralph was a retired
heat-treater at Facet Inc., in Elmira Heights, NY. Together with his wife, they
enjoyed retirement spending time in Florida and Black Lake in Upstate NY. Ralph
was also a veteran of the US Navy serving his country during WWII. Family and
friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 So. Main St.,
Horseheads, on Wed., May 7, 2008, from 2-5:00 p.m. where his service will

DAVENPORT Rochelle P., aka Shelly/Peach Hancock
Born on August 5, 1938 to Ella Alice Taylor Whitehouse and Richard Raymond Davenport, died of natural causes at her home in Horseheads, NY on September 27, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents and step father David C. Whitehouse, her son David C. Smith and her brother David Whitehouse. She is survived by her brother Charles Whitehouse of Liverpool, NY; her sons Lawrence D. LaMorie of Rochester, NY, and John R. Smith of Clovis, CA; and her daughter Cecile B. Dean of Horseheads, NY; nine grandchildren and numerous other loved ones. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church, a graduate of Elmira Business Institute, and former employee of Artistic Greetings. Burial services will be held on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Elmira, NY by Barber Funeral Home. Age 83, of Elmira Heights, NY, died on Sunday, May 22,
2011, at Bethany Manor. He was born on September 18, 1927 in South Creek, PA to
the late George and Cleo (Carpenter) Davis. Kenneth was predeceased by his
wife, Jane Davis; and daughters, Bonnie Davis and Shirley Russell. He is
survived by his son, William (Carolyn) Davis of Elmira; daughters, Cathy
(Charles) Bennett of Elmira, Connie Bernas of Elmira, Donna (Joe) Brimmer of
Elmira Heights, Patty (Don) Simoens of Elmira and Margaret Miller of Bentley
Creek, PA; adopted son, Mike Price of Elmira Heights; several grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. Kenneth was a longtime
member of the American Legion Post #154 in Elmira Heights. Family and friends are

DEAN FRIEDRICH age 51, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014. Ellen was born
October 23, 1962, in Elmira, the daughter of Helen McCann Dean and the late
Robert C. Dean, Sr. In addition to her mother Ellen is survived by her
children, Melissa S. Friedrich of Elmira, Sean M. Friedrich and his wife
Valerie of Elmira, Mallory E. Freeman with Martin J. Benjamin, Jr. of
Horseheads, and Noah C. Freeman of Elmira, grandsons, Carter and Spencer
Trumbull, Landon Friedrich, and Martin, III and Brennan Benjamin, brother
Robert C. Dean, Jr., nephews, Joshua Dean of Elmira and Sgt. Jeremy Dean, U
S Army, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. Ellen worked at
several elementary schools in the Elmira School District. Loved by all the
children she came in contact with, they affectionately called her "Miss
Ellen, "Momma Ellen", or "Mrs. Jeter", acknowledging her being a huge fan of
Derek Jeter. Ellen was also a Buffalo Bills fan. She enjoyed social media,
music and baking….making the best banana bread ever! Known to her
grandchildren as "Gmom" or "G.G.", Ellen loved her time with her

Frances I. Age 89, of Elmira Heights, died peacefully on Thursday, December 29,
2005, at Seneca View Skilled COOPER Harold L. Of Waverly, NY, died March 19,
2006. He is survived by his wife, Henrietta; and children, Jack (Mary) of
Millport, Janet and Beverly of Erin, Norma Jean (Harold) of Brooktondale,
Marlene (Jim) of Spencer, Darlene of Elmira, Neal (Sue) of Florida, Darrell
(Brenda) Florida and RomaLee (Francis) of Oklahoma. He is also survived by 22
grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Harold was predeceased by his twin
daughter, Janice Marie; four brothers, two sisters. Mr. Cooper requested no
calling hours. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.Nursing Facility, Montour
Falls. The family will receive friends prior to funeral services, from
1:00-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, at the Oakwood United Methodist Church,

MA, and Jennifer Bills of Brighton, MA; and nephews, Robert and John Rogers.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harvey Dean; and mother, Daisy Dean
Rogers, of Elmira Heights; and only sibling, Robert C. Rogers. Fran was born
and raised in Elmira, NY, where she graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School
Class of 1935. She married Erwin Beardslee on August 2, 1939 and together they
lived for 64 years in Elmira Heights. She was a member of the Oakwood United
Methodist Church for 77 years, assisting with every church dinner and bazaar until
her mid 80s; and was also a member of the UMCW Dockstater Circle. She was also
a member of Eastern Star Harmony-Loyal Chapter #265, Elmira, AARP volunteer,
Voter Registration and Voting Election Inspector volunteer, active member of
the Elmira Heights Historical Society, a Girl Scout leader, and devoted
grandmother. The family will provide flowers. Memorials in her memory be

LOU (DEAN/VARLAN) BREESE was born January 4, 1963 in Elmira, the daughter of
Leon and Catherine (Breese) Dean Sr. passed away on Tuesday, September 16,
2014 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center with her family at her side. Her son,
Brandon Varlan; aunts, Marie Holly and Doris Micklitsch and special uncle,
Carl Dean preceded her in death. She is survived by her parents, Leon and
Catherine; husband, Jerome Breese; children, Ashley (Bron) Baldwin, Aimee
(Justin) Osburn, Amanda Varlan and Zachary Bellinger; grandchildren,
McKaylin, Kassadi and Onalyssa Baldwin; Kaitlynn, Cole and Alaura Osburn;
Jordan, Faith and Jaelynne Libruk; sisters, Cheryl Dean and Bonnie (Ted)
Bellinger; brothers, Leon (Bobbie) Dean Jr., Larry (Maryann) Dean and
Richard Dean; special friend, Franny Simpson; along with several nieces and
nephews. She will be greatly missed by the "love of her life", her cat,
"Baby Girl". Mary Lou was graduate of Southside High School in 1981. She
loved playing cards, Yazoo, swimming, doing puzzles and was a Lottery

Of Horseheads, NY, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family Wednesday
evening, September 9, 2009. He graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1942. Bert
retired from SM Flickingers in 1991 after 42 years of safe driving at the age
of 70. Bert enjoyed Nascar/Stock Car racing, football, country music, square
dancing, card playing and, most of all, being with his family. Bert is survived
by his loving wife of 55 years, Loretta Makovitch; his children, Yvonne (David)
Sadler of Breesport, NY, Cindy Deats of Anchorage, AK, Sherry Deats (Gary Reis)

home. She was predeceased by her brother David Decker and sister Rayleen
Decker. She is survived by her husband William K. Brown; daughters Gloria

DECKER - RYAN Clio Mae
Age 80, a resident of Woodbrook, formerly of Morrowfield Avenue and the
Southport community her whole life, died Monday, January 21st, 2008, at the St.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis in 1983. Surviving Clio are her

Flats, Timothy and Donna Ryan of Lima; her nine loving grandchildren, Adam
(Kim) Taft, Todd (Jennifer) Taft, Jared (Jessica) Taft, Abigail (Timothy)
Doolittle, Mathew (Lori) Wheeler, Jeremy (Jennifer) Wheeler, Andrew Wheeler,
Shannon Ryan (Bill Lewis), Kevin Ryan; and nine cherished great-grandchildren
and a little ONE on the way, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her
parents and husband; Clio is also predeceased by her sister, Carline Marino.

DECKER Harry Budd Decker
Big Pine Key, Florida: Born: 12/04/1927 in Elmira, New
York to Cortland Harry Decker and Genevieve Budd Decker. A resident of Big Pine
Key, Florida, passed on 06/02/2011, in Miami, Florida, after an extended
sickness. Harry lived his early years in West Elmira and graduated from Elmira
Free Academy. He was a Marine Corps Veteran serving at the end of World War II,
he transferred to the Navel Reserve and was called up for active duty during
the Koren War and served in the Far East. He worked in the electronics industry
as a civilian employee of the US Government in Labrador doing long range
communications maintenance. He returned to Elmira after the death of his father
to run the family construction business. He returned to electronics in
Rochester, NY, working in computers. While living in Henrietta, NY he had real
estate holdings in the Rochester area that kept him busy. He enjoyed riding
motorcycles, camping and fishing with his sister and family in the Finger Lakes
area. He had his Private Pilots license and owned his own aircraft. After he
retired, he sold his real estate and moved to Big Pine Key, Florida. He became
a Federal Licensed Gun dealer and enjoyed shooting and fishing with friends, in
the Florida Key's. He was predeceased by his mother Genevieve Decker Brunjes
and father Cortland Decker, stepfather George Brunjes, his brother Richard
Decker, and sister Beverly Decker Harrison. He is survived by his son Cortland
Harry Decker II and Amy McAdams Decker, grand children, Sarah Decker, Benjamin
Decker, Rachel Decker. His sister-in-law, JoAnn Lewis Decker and brother-in-law
Eugene B. Harrison, nine nieces and one nephew. A memorial service and
internment will be held Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 11:30 am, at Forest Lawn

illness on Tues Dec. 9, 2014. She was born in Odessa to Ralph and Dorothy
(Keach) Depew. She was predeceased by her husband Art in 2001. Her surviving
family includes her daughters and sons, Gerald (Linda) Patchen, Shirley
(Steven) Burlew, Robert (Janette) Patchen Charles (Donna) Patchen, Zandra
(Robert) Brewer; 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; several nieces

Age 96, of Elmira, died peacefully on October 17, 2009 at the Arnot Ogden
Medical Center. Pauline was born in Millerton, PA on March 2, 1913, the
daughter of Lynn C. and Anna Seely Dickinson. Besides her parents, she was
predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Gordon J. Lord in 1985; a sister, Hilda
Covey; and a brother, Irving Dickinson. She is survived by her daughters, Lois
(Gene) Norris of Bemus Point, NY and Shirley Lord of Elmira, NY; grandchildren,
Linda (Jonathan) Pettit of the Columbus, Ohio area and Gordon (Charlotte)
Norris of Falconer, NY; five great-grandchildren, Zachary, Darren, Brandon
Norris, Erica and Michelle Pettit; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1929, Cortland Normal in 1932 and got
a B.S. from Cortland College in 1962. She started her teaching career in a
one-room school at Pine City, NY, and then taught at several other schools
before entering the Elmira City School District from which she retired in July
1971. She was a member of Hedding-Christ's-New Beginnings United Methodist
Church since 1925, where she served on various committees, taught Sunday
School, and was a volunteer treasurer for ten years. She was also a member of
NY State Teachers Association, Athenaeum Club, and did volunteer work for Meals
on Wheels, AARP-IRS program, and Office for the Aging. One of her interests was
working on genealogy. Because of this interest, she belonged to many
genealogical and historical societies. She was a loving mother, grandmother,
and great-grandmother. Family will receive friends at the Olthof Funeral Home,
Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY on Saturday, October 24, 2009, from
1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place immediately following the

Age 87 formerly of Millerton, PA. She was born March 21, 1925 in Clairton, PA, daughter of the late Michael and Christina (Bernardo) DiPetta, Italian immigrants from Campobasso, Italy 1918 and stepmother Mary (DePaul) DiPetta and died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility after an extended illness. Carmella married Miles E. Criss, a WWII veteran, on May 30, 1947 in St. Anthony's Church and they raised their family in Millerton, PA. Miles preceded her in death on July 16, 1976. She was also predeceased by her brother Anthony J. DiPetta and sister Rose Stuck. A longtime resident of Wellsburg, died Sun. Oct. 20, 2013 following declining health in Montour Falls where he had most recently resided. Born on Jan. 23, 1925 in Wellsburg, Herb was the son of the late John & Violet Gonzales Doan. In service to his country Herb was a U.S. Army Veteran, was active in the V.F.W. post #901 and a proud member of the "Cooties Pop Tent #35". Herb married Jean Oberist on Apr. 5, 1970 and she predeceased him on July 24, 2002. Herb was an Ace Carpenter by trade and retired from the Red Jacket Motel as Manager in the Maintenance Dept. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. His interests included gardening, hunting, fishing and camping. Hospital. Betty was the daughter of the late Wyatt Carr and Millie (Park)
Lewis. She was born June 3rd, 1918 in Elmira. Betty is survived by her loving
sons and daughters-in-law, Frank (Betty) Doughty of Elmira, Robert (Lori)

Age 92 of Elmira, NY. She was born April 4, 1916 in Elmira Heights, NY,
daughter of the late Floyd A. and Edna M. Douglas and died Saturday, November
8, 2008, at home. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles
"Charlie" LeHard in 1983. "Marnie" is survived by her dear
friends, Peggy Personius of Elmira, Lynn Hemmer of Horseheads and John Corsi of
Ithaca; along with Peggy's dogs, Savannah and Jorja, who Marge always called
her puppies. Mrs. LeHard was a teacher in the Elmira Heights School District,
retiring after 37 years of educating. Her joy, in later years, was her
unselfish volunteering at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center where she volunteered
thousands of hours, earning her the distinction of being one of the top volunteers
at the hospital. Friends are invited to her funeral service at Walter J. Kent

surrounded by the loving arms of her family after a courageous battle with
cancer on Friday, July 20, 2007, at NY Medical Center, Sloan-Kettering Cancer
Institute in Manhattan. Karen was born to the late Genevieve (Klimczak) Draht
who died Sept. 15, 2003, and her father, Robert E. Draht who died April 8,
1997. She is survived by her devoted husband of 32 years, Clifton

by his daughter, Rondalee (Troy) Powell and grandson, Cody Powell; son, Michael
F. (Teddi) Drake and grandchildren, Courtney (Jamie) Mines, Michael Drake,

Mildred A. A longtime resident of Wygant Rd. Horseheads and most recently of
Southport, died peacefully in the care of the Chemung County Nursing Facility
on Friday afternoon, October 7, 2005 with her family at her side at the age of
89. Mildred was born on November 9, 1915 in Thurston, NY daughter to Percy H.
& Sarah V. Davis Dusenbery. She was married to John Aikman in 1941 and he
predeceased her in 1979. Together they provided a loving home to raise their
five children, Cola Thayer, Southport; Adell Gruslin, N. Attleboro, MA; John
& Chris Aikman, Breesport; Percy & Karen Aikman, Southport; Ted &
Dawn Aikman, Breesport; nine grandchildren, Brian (Stacy) Thayer, Jason Thayer,
Andrea (Eric) Klanderman, Alissa (Frank) Vera, John W. Aikman, Justin Aikman,
Cassandra Aikman, Jason Alexander, Derrick (fiancée, Lindsay) Alexander;
nephews, Bill and Jack Wylie; a brother-in-law, William "Bud" Wylie,
Horseheads. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her
sister, Grace Wylie and her son-in-law, Dennis Thayer. Mildred is remembered
for enjoying a simple life filled with love for her family, her home,

Center. She was born on July 5, 1952 in Elmira, NY to the late William and
Lillian Earl. Patti was predeceased by her sister, Sandy Robinson,
grandparents, Reuben and Louise Beaver and aunt, Lois Lenox. She is survived
by her loving husband of 37 years, Lester Shearer; sister, Brenda Earl Kane;
brother, William (Marilyn) Earl; nieces, Bridget (Herbert Wright) Shaw and
Erica Shaw; great nieces, Shabrijah (Nehemiah Hill) and Cianni Simpson;

Was born August 13, 1944 in Poughkeepsie, NY, the son of James and Marion
(Morey) Eckert, died on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at the Arnot Ogden Medical
Center at the age of 63. His father, James, preceded Michael in death. He is
survived by his mother, Marion; loving companion, JoAnn Fretz and her son, Tom
Fretz; children, Dawn E. Eckert, Noel A. Eckert, Michael J. and Linda T.
Eckert; along with several grandchildren. Michael was employed by Swift
Transportation as a 48 state over the road truck driver. He enjoyed traveling

Of Elmira died Saturday evening, January 12, 2008 at the Arnot-Ogden Medical
Center following an illness at the age of 62. Born on March 26, 1945 in Elmira,
Jack was the son of Willis D. & Margaret Allen Edger. He served his country
in the United States Army during the Vietnam War; after returning home he
earned his Bachelors Degree. Jack was employed by Thomas & Betts Corp. for
many years. An avid sportsmen he enjoyed a game of golf and following the NY
Yankees. He is survived by his loving family, a sister and brother-in-law,
Rowena "Red" & Franklin Freeborn, Horseheads; a brother and
sister-in-law, Willis & Betty Edger, Ulster, PA; nieces and nephews,

Willis Daniel "Bill" Edger, 76, of Horseheads, NY died January 9,
1990. He was a retired employee of Thatcher Glass Company in Elmira, NY. He is

age 78, of Ulster, Pa.; died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 at the Sayre Health Care Center following declining health.Born on Feb. 5, 1935 in Elmira, N.Y.; Willis was a son of the late Willis D. & Margaret Allen Edger. He served in the Army Reserves for many years. Willis was married to Betty Wood on Nov. 10, 1956. He was a mechanic by trade and was employed by Westinghouse, A&P Foods, Mint Chevrolet and was most proud of his own business, Edger's Garage, Centerville, Pa., which he operated for many years. His interests included, camping and traveling with his family. Willy volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels , Troy, Pa., and was very dedicated to his recipients. He is remembered as a hard worker and good provider for his loving family who survive; wife and companion of nearly 57 years Betty Wood Edger, Ulster, Pa.; their children Willis Edger, Ulster, Pa., Carol (William) Williams, Milan, Pa., Thomas (Vicky) Edger, S.C.; two grandsons, Matthew (Melinda) Edger and Willis D. 21, 1961. Gladys was a very hard worker, and loved gardening, canning, and
crossword puzzles. She enjoyed being around people. She is survived by

Elmira: Age 87 of Elmira (Southport) died April 6, 2011. Born 12/3/23, in Webb Mills, son of John & Ruth (Delong) Elliott, he is survived by his 3 daughters: Carol (Jim) Hosley (Pine City), Bonnie Barfield (N.C.) and Valerie Elliott (Elmira). He is also survived by grandchildren: Melanie (Justin) O'Neil, Christian Saunders, Ray Barfield, Kathryn Barfield, step grandchildren: Lisa Hosley, Tim (Jodi) Hosley, & Tina (Dan) Tyler, great-grandchild Arianna O'Neil as well as step-great-grandchildren: Austyn, Blake & Xzander Hosley, and Myranda, Eleanor, and Jordan Tyler, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Marcella: "Sally", "Marcy" (Warters) Elliott (who died April 6, 2006), and sisters, Alice (Ken) Criss, Gladys (Luther) Bellows & Gail (Manley) Mayes. As a young man, raised in Webb Mills, he and his ox ("Buck") helped build the log home that still stands at 1606 Pennsylvania Ave. He attended a one-room schoolhouse (Bird Creek Road) through 8th grade, and SHS through June, 1941 (having one semester to go) and completed his high school with a GED. By September that year he held his first job as the first employee of C. W. Crandall Well Drilling and was the proud owner of his first car. Faithfully serving his country (WW II), he was introduced by his sister (Gladys) to the love of his life (Marcy) in Elmira. They made a vow to one another before their marriage (9/7/46) that they would "never argue in front of the children" and successfully kept that vow for 60 years of marriage! Mort lived a life of service to his God, his family, his country, and many friends. He worked 2 and sometimes 3 jobs at a time, to provide for his family all of life's necessities and many wonderful extras. His employers included: C.W Crandall, Remington Rand, LRC, NCR and Purolator. His secondary jobs included a Watkins Products Distributorship and rural deliveries for both National Biscuit Company and the Star Gazette. He was a "Class A" machinist for all (except C.W. Crandall). He was the first bus driver for the Pentecostal Tabernacle (now known as Elmira Christian Center or "ECC") and together he and Marcy started and ran "Junior Church" services at ECC, and later at the Calvary Church of the Nazarene, enriching the lives of many children. He and Marcy served their children's friends by making them feel welcome in their home and some even called them "Mom & Dad." He served his friends, by lending (often giving) them money, helping them move, and doing whatever needed to be done, such as taking an ill friend to bi-weekly dialysis and walking their family dog. Viewing hours will be held at the Millerton Wesleyan Church, 5174 Main Street, Millerton, PA, Tuesday, April 12th from 2-4 PM and 6-7 PM, followed by his memorial service at 7 PM. Painted Post, NY passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Elcor Nursing
and Rehabilitation Center. Robert was born April 30, 1957 in Elmira, NY the
son of Charles and Sarah Hults Ellsworth. Robert worked for the
Corning-Painted Post School District.

ELWOOD Clyde E. "Slim"
Age 93, of 68 Lake St., Hammondsport, died Sunday, January 4, 2009, at the
Arnot Ogden Mem. Hospital in Elmira. He was born April 21, 1915 in Pine City,
the son of Thomas and Lena Hunt Elwood. Slim was an Army veteran of WWII, where
he served in Africa and Italy; member of the Hammondsport Legion and the Bath
VFW. He was a member of the Hammondsport Ambulance Corp., a 27-year member of
the Hammondsport Fire Dept., former governor of the Hammondsport Moose Lodge,
1991 Moose of the year and the 1988 Hammondsport Rotary Club Citizen of the
year. He retired in 1977 as chief lineman for NYSEG after 32 years of service.
Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Lillian DeGolyer Elwood; daughter, Patricia
(Henry) Brown of Bath; grandchildren, Valerie (Craig) Smith, Bob (Margy) Brown
and Rick Brown; seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and
several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Florence V.
Elwood, in January of 1973; and his daughter, Beverly Rutledge in July 2005.

and devoted her life to her family and friends. Survivors include her husband,

ELWOOD George Kenneth ("Ken" "George")
Age 79, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, died to be with the Lord on October 7, 2007
after a long illness. George was a sweet, kind, giving man who always had a
smile. George was a diehard Phillies fan and was very excited to hear about
them winning the NL Eastern Division Championship. George was born in Bentley
Creek, Pennsylvania, married Dorothy in 1950 and lived in Elmira, New York
until 1963, when they moved to the Jersey Shore. George was a Little League
Baseball coach, Boy Scout leader and past Governor of the Galloway Township
Chapter of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He loved to garden and could grow the
best cucumbers, scallions and zucchini ever. He worked as an oil burner
repairman for Home Heating and Burkhard for many years and then worked for the
Dawes Avenue School in Somers Point as a custodian until his retirement in
1999. After retirement, George loved going to the EHT Senior Center every
weekday to play bingo and talk with his friends. George was predeceased by his
wife of 46 years, Dorothy in 1996. He is also predeceased by six brothers and
two sisters. He is survived by three children, David (Marie) of EHT, Carl of
Millville, Paulene Elwood of Mays Landing and Kym Gramm (Paul) of Mays Landing;
his brother, Clyde (Lillian) of Hammondsport, NY; six grandchildren, Jim Servis
(Adrienne) of California, Michael Servis (Jennifer) of EHT, David Elwood Jr.
(Tammy) of Mays Landing, Arthur Axelson (Stacey) of Vineland, Jason Axelson,
currently in Iraq (Tanya), Carl Elwood, Jr. (a/k/a CJ) of Millville and
Stefanie Lecuyer of Mays Landing; and nine great-grandchildren, Zach, Luke,
Jared, Kayla, Ashley, Alexi, Tori, Zach and Jason Jr.; as well as several
nieces and nephews; and his companion, Joan Wright of Pleasantville, NJ. A
viewing will be held at the Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Ave.,
Elmira, NY 14904 on Friday, October 12, 2007, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a
service at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY. In

EMERY - WALRATH
Jean E. Formerly of Watkins Glen and most recently of Southport, died
peacefully Saturday evening, February 25, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital, where she
had been residing at the age of 80. Jean was born on February 21, 1926 in
Montour Falls, NY to Frank & Florence Gould Emery. She was married to
Donald R. Walrath, w ho predeceased her in 1976. Her many interests include
special times with her family and listening to music. She was a member of the
Mooreland Presbyterian Church and the Olive Branch Grange. Surviving are her
loving family who cherish her memory. A daughter and son-in-law, Jean &
John Jessmore, Southport; grandchildren, Donald R. Duffy and Emerald M.
Jessmore; great grandchildren, Tiffany and Benjamin Duffy; a special nephew,
Anthony J. Jessmore along with several nieces, nephews and family friends
including her longtime friend and companion of 30 years, Gordon Hausner. Jean's
family will receive guests on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 from 10-11 a.m. Funeral
services will follow at 11 a.m. The interment will take place in Forest Lawn
Memorial Park, Elmira.
EMERY LORMA RUTTER
Lorma E., Age 82, formerly of Marshall St., Horseheads, NY, died Sunday, July
15, 2007, at the Elcor Health Services in Horseheads. Lorma was born on
February 10, 1925 in Shirley Township, PA, daughter of the late Clarence and
Ella (Laird) Emery. Lorma leaves behind many family and friends that will carry
the love of Lorma in their hearts forever. Survivors include her daughters,
Marilyn Bubb of Sierra Vista, AZ and Dixie Carlin of Fredericksburg, VA;
sister, Geraldine Wentz of Newton Hamilton, PA; grandchildren, Tammy,
Elizabeth, Billy and Holly. Lorma was predeceased by her husband, Elmer Rutter;
daughter, Myrna Henry. Family and friends are invited to call Thursday, July
19, 2007, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral
services will be held there on Friday, July 20, 2007, at 10 a.m. with Rev.
Patrick Holder officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
EPLER Kenneth Arthur
Retired NYS Trooper Of Elmira, NY, was born October 20, 1930 in New Albany, PA the son of the late Arthur Henry and Rebecca (Kinney) Epler, died peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility at the age of 82. Ken was a 1948 graduate of Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He was a Veteran of the US Army serving in Fort McPherson, GA from 1951 to 1953. From 1953 to 1985 he was a New York State Trooper serving in Troop T in Utica, NY, Troop C in Sydney, NY and Troop E in Canandaigua, NY. Ken served his entire career in Horseheads and Montour Falls, NY. He was a certified firearms and bomb disposal expert and instructor. He served with the NYSP at the 1980 Olympics, Attica in 1970 and Appalachian in 1956. Mr. Epler was also a retired gunsmith and federally licensed firearms dealer. He was married to Ruth Johnson from 1952 to 1972 and Evelyn Southard from 1974 to 2004. He was preceded in death by the following: father, Arthur in 1973; mother, Rebecca in 1986; sister, Marie in 1978; brother, Harry in 2004; daughter-in-law, Karen in 2005. He is survived by his first wife, Ruth; children, Dennis (Jackie), David (Margaret) and Laurie (Norm); stepchildren, Donald (Karen Kent) and Dana (Paula); along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Terisha, Joshua, Emily, Andrew, Craig, Kristen, Hunter, Nicholas, Donny and Angela. At Mr. Epler's request there will be no prior calling hours or funeral service. He will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memorial Park at the convenience of his family. His family also wishes to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the 5th floor staff at the Chemung County Nursing Facility for the outstanding care given to Ken. THERESA L. ERLE,
age 93 of Horseheads, NY, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016. Theresa was
born in Elmira, NY, to the late Stanley and Rachel (Lamberson) Erle. She was
a graduate of Southside High School and retired from NYSEG after 35 years as
a switchboard operator. Theresa was also a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran
Church and enjoyed spending her mornings with her family at Sugar and Spice.
Her family and friends were very dear to her as well as her feline
companions. The oldest of four girls, she was also predeceased by her
younger sisters, Audrey Erle and Phyllis Erle. Theresa is survived by her
sister, Lucille Erle Fenton of Wyalusing, PA; dear friend, Cindy Morse of
Elmira; and many nieces and nephews. There will be no services. Interment in
Forest Lawn Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest with her parents.

ERWAY Robert Donald, Sr.
Age 89, of Twin Fawn Estates, Lowman, and formerly of Jackson Creek Road, Cayuta and Elmira Heights, died on Monday, January 9, 2006, at home. He was born December 8, 1916 at Paradise Hospital, Elmira, to Dr. Charles Hendry and Ruth (Parks) Erway. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Erway; sons, Robert D., Jr. (Susan) of Martinez, GA, Charles L. of Elmira, Mark A. (Anne) and James R. (Rhonda) of Breesport; daughters, Jean E. (Franklin) Nichols of Breesport and Barbara S. (Robert Sharp) Phillips of Horseheads; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. C. Eugene Erway of Elmira; ten nephews and nieces, plus three stepchildren and their families. He was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth Skillman Erway in 1975; sister, Evelyn Erway Cleveland; grandson, Darrell John DeLorme; and very good friend, Rev. Robert A. DeLorme. Graduated from Thomas A. Edison HS in 1934 and Wyckoff School in NYC in 1936. As a young man, he played trumpet/cornet in the Bob Erway Orchestra in the local area. He worked for Elmira Bank & Trust and Eclipse/Bendix Aviation during WWII before establishing Erway's Sweet Shoppe which he operated for about 10 years. Then he sold securities and Mutual Funds for Rockwell Gould, First Albany Corporation & Townsley-Liptak. He retired at age 73 as Director of Chemung County Soil & Water Conservation District. A lifelong resident of Chemung Co., he was active in many community organizations: Director and Past President of Chemung Co. Cooperative Extension, Director City Rescue Mission, S.S. Superintendent, member Admin. Board, Chairman Finance Committee & Men's Club at Oakwood UMC, Chairman Boy Scout Troop 13 Committee, Supervisor Town of Erin 1964-69 and 1976-77, County Board of Supervisors1964-69, Chairman Arrangements-Billy Graham Crusade June and September 1972, Coordinator Newton-Hoffman Creeks Watershed Project which resulted in many flood prevention dams including Park Station Park, Chairman Chemung Co. Soil & Water Conservation District, Originator County Annual Arbor Green Project, Chairman Sullivan Trail Resource Conservation & Development Project, Chairman NYS Resource, Conservation & Development Committee, NYS Conservation Council "Soil Conservationist of the Year-1973", long-term Republican Committeeman, member of John Birch Society, member of Elmira Heights Lodge #913 F&AM and performed in several of their minstrel shows, member of Elmira Heights Civil Defense, member of several Historical Societies, testified before the US Congress, spoke out locally against the Students for a Democratic Society and ran for County Clerk twice. Bob was a fan of Big Band music and met and obtained autographs of many famous bandleaders. He relished family time and took many long family trips and hundreds of family slide pictures. Arrangements are being handled by Ballard & Lindgren Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to call at Oakwood UMC, Elmira Heights, on Friday, January 13 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours. EVANS - GARDNER, Esther Lillian (Evans)
Age 93, died on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Indian River Nursing Home in
Granville. She was a long time resident of Elmira, NY. Born in Elmira, NY on
May 19, 1915 she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ermina (Walker) Evans.
She married Decker Lloyd Gardner on October 18, 1947 in the Pennsylvania Avenue
Methodist Church in Elmira. Esther graduated from Southside High School in
Elmira in 1932, and worked as a secretary for Hardinge Brothers in Elmira for
many years. She retired as a secretary after working for American LaFrance.
Esther was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and later attended the
Erin United Methodist Church in Erin, New York. She was a member of the Erin
Historical Society and took great pleasure in travelling with various senior
citizens groups. Besides her parents, Esther was was predeceased by her husband
and a sister, Jane E. (Evans) Boyd. Survivors include a daughter, Gloria
(Gardner) Kelley and her husband, Robert of South Glens Falls; a granddaughter,
Kathleen Erin Kelley of Wilkes-Barre, PA; a niece, Carole Lynn Boyd of Cary,
North Carolina; a nephew, Keith L. Boyd of Raleigh, NC; as well as several
grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. At Esther's request there will
be no calling hours. Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, March 9,
2009 at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Elmira by Esther's nephew, the
Reverend Donald Maynard, of the Canisteo Wesleyan Church in Canisteo, NY.

Age 82, born November 30, 1924 in Hahira, GA, the son of the late Leon A. and
Lula (Morrell) Everette, died peacefully on Saturday, November 17, 2007, at St.
Joseph's Hospital with his beloved family at his side. James is survived by his
loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Doris C. (Wiggins) Everette; special
daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and James Butler of Pine City, NY; Eldora
and Larry LaRue of Knoxville, TN; along with six grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. James was a veteran of
the US Navy, proudly serving his country from 1942 - 1945. He was a lifetime
member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #62 Elmira Elks Club. James retired after many
dedicated years as a self-employed contractor. Family and friends will gather

husband, Andrew, in 1982; sister, Della Sisto, in 2001 and is survived by her
daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Hal Sherwood of Lowman, Julia and Mark Yusko
of Elmira, Andrea J. Roman of Elmira, Pat and Mike Wheeler of Erin, Cathy and
Mike Wood of Big Flats, Debbie Roman of Elmira; 10 grandchildren, 10
great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Erwin and Velma Evertts of
Erin, Howard and Jackie Evertts of Elmira; along with several nieces and
nephews. It was Pat's request that her services be private. Interment will take
