CLARENDON –VIRGINIA B. ‘GINNY’ COGANSPARGER age 92, born on August 30, 1923 to the late George Vail and Belle (Camp) Clarendon, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, George V. Clarendon II. Ginny is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Russell Cogansparger; children, Carol (Dr. Franklin) Din of Martinsburg, WV and Lee (Marilyn) Cogansparger of Lancaster, PA; grandchildren, Elisa Rushing of Lakeland, FL and Evan (Kirsten) Cogansparger of Uniontown, OH; great grandchildren, Sydney, Preston, and Parker Cogansparger and Kaylee Rushing; along with numerous beloved great granddogs. Ginny graduated from Southside High School with the class of 1941 and then attended Elmira Business Institute. She spent many years before and after having her children working for F.M. Howell & Co., from where she retired in 1983. Ginny attended Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church and belonged to the Twin Tiers Squares. CLARK
–CYNTHIA D. ‘CINDY ISAACS of Elmira Heights, NY passed away on Wednesday
morning, April 13, 2016 at the age of 63. Cindy was born on December 21,
1952 a daughter of Robert and Marlene Bush Clark. She worked in the Dept. of
Education in both the Arnot Ogden Medical Center and with the Elmira
Correctional Facility. A brick will be placed in Cindy's honor at the Elmira
Correctional Facility for her dedication and many years of service. She is
predeceased by her father, Robert. Cindy is survived by her son, Randy
(Teresa) Isaacs of Girdletree, MD; three grandchildren, Logan, Kayla and
Emily; mother, Marlene Peterson; sisters, Darlene Niver and Janice Thomas;
brothers, Norman and Mike Clark and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a
host of special friends. Cindy enjoyed volunteering with the Elmira Garden
Club and attending live theatre. She mostly enjoyed her time spent with
friends and family. The family will welcome relatives and friends to
Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St. at Rt. 13 Horseheads, NY on
Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 2-5 PM with Funeral Services to follow. She will
be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memorial Park at the convenience of the

RALPH EDWARD
CLARK - A longtime resident of Milton St on Elmira's Southside passed
away peacefully Thurs., May 7, 2015 under the care of St. Joseph's Hospital
following an illness at the age of 95. Born on July 31, 1919 in Elmira,
Ralph was the son of the late, Arthur & Rose Vollmer Clark. He married the
love of his life, Dorothy McCabe on December 21, 1942 in Elmira and enjoyed
60 years of marriage together caring for their home and raising their family
until her passing in 2003. Ralph served in the Pacific Theater during WWII
in the US Navy as a Fireman 1st Class. He was employed by Bendix Corp. as a
tool & die maker and precision grinder for 34 years until his retirement.
Ralph's many interests included reading. He was a life long historian,
knowledgeable in local history, the Civil War, and all wars following. Ralph
was a proud member of the American Legion and the United Auto Workers Union.
Surviving is his loving family, sons, Lawrence (Wendy Smith) Clark, BelAir,
MD; Edward (Rita Ahearn) Clark, Herndon, VA; granddaughter, Emily Clark;
wonderful friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents and wife, Ralph
was predeceased by his granddaughters, Laurie Clark and Linda Clark. Family
and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126
Broadway, Southport/Elmira on Mon. May 11, 2015 from 10-11am. Funeral
services will follow at 11am. With graveside services in Forest Lawn

CLARK Ralph E.
Of Horseheads, NY passed away on Sunday October 30, 2005 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Ralph was born August 23, 1926 in Millport, NY the son of the late Floyd and Velma Hurd Clark. He was a veteran of WW II serving his country with the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a member of Bentley-Trumble American Legion Post # 442 in Horseheads. Ralph married his wife, Annajean Richards Clark, on June 23, 1947 and they recently celebrated their 58th Wedding Anniveresary on June 23, 2005. He was an Operating Engineer and member of Local 832 for 58 years. Ralph was pre-deceased by his son Jay Van Clark on May 12, 1963. Ralph leaves his wife of 58 years Annajean Richards Clark; sons and daughters-in-law: Ronald & Joyce Clark and Steve & Jennie Clark; daughters and sons-in-law: Lynne & Tim Gaylord and Kelly & Glenn Thresher; grandchildren: Lori & Thomas Snyder, Adam Clark, Greg and Garan Gaylord, Kyle Clark, and Curtis Thresher; great grandchildren: Alexandra, Katherine, and Michael Snyder; brothers and sister-in-law: Melvin & Virginia Clark and Kenneth Clark; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Joanna Richards, Howard & Helen Berry, William McLaughlin, and Mary Clark; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends including Jack & Pat Clark. REEDIE A. CLARK JR., 88, of Elmira, NY, passed
away on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was
born on October 10, 1931 in Elmira, NY to the late Reedie and Mary (Hall)
Clark Sr. Reedie was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice Clark, brothers,
Robert E. and Lewis Clark; son-in-law, Kent Manley and daughter-in-law,
Kristen Clark. He is survived by his sons, Robert Clark of Elmira and Butch
(Diane) Clark of Horseheads; daughters, Lynette Manley of MO and Reeda
(Lynn) Clark of Erin; sisters, Myrtle Morrison of Ashland and Lillian Rozell
of Horseheads; grandchildren, Jessica, Kenny, Christopher, Jamie, David and
Amy; and 13 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
Reedie was a Veteran of the US Navy and he retired from Evans Roofing after
many years of service. He was a longtime member of American Legion
Bentley-Trumble Post 442 in Horseheads. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved
hunting and fishing. Reedie was a NY Yankee, Syracuse Orange and stock car
racing fan. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, November 1st
from 5 to 8 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral services will
take place there on Saturday, November 2nd at 10 a.m. Interment will follow

JEAN CLEMONS
passed away at Cayuga Medical Center, Ithaca, NY Sunday, June 14, 2015 after
a long illness. Jean was born December 9, 1945 in Sayre, PA. She was the
daughter of Steward E. Clemons, Sr. and Florence (Collins) Clemons. She is
predeceased by parents and younger sister, Elizabeth Anne Clemons, as well
as sister-in-law, Betty (Strawn) Clemons. She is survived by sister, Mary
Clemons of Lowman, NY, brother, Steward E. Clemons, Jr. of Franklin, NC and
six nieces and nephews. She loved skiing, history and had a passion for
genealogy. She was a graduate of Southside High School, Class of 1963. She
was a caring and compassionate friend who was always there to support and
protect family and friends. She requested no calling hours, stating that she
enjoyed conversation and gatherings with those who loved her when she was
alive. She will rest in peace at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. –Elmira

ROBERT E. COATES, age 66, of Little Road, Lowman, NY died Friday, October 11, 2002 at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Robert was born January 28, 1936 in Elmira son of the late Carter and Bessie (Bellows) Coates. He was retired from Kennedy Valve where he was employed in the Molding Department for many years. Robert was married the former Gwendolyn Gore. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. He was quick with a joke loving to make everyone around him smile and laugh. Surviving in addition to his wife Gwendolyn are his daughter; Rosemarie Coates of Odessa, sons, Erin Coates of Odessa and Roland Coates of Gillett, PA, sisters, Margaret Nash of Orlando, FL and Genevieve Nichols of Elmira, 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. COATS –GENEVIEVE M. NICHOLS, age 86, of Elmira, NY, died on Monday, January 5, 2004, at home with her loving family by her side. She was born in November 2, 1917 on Pennsylvania to the late Carter and Bessie (Belles) Coats. Genevieve was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Nichols in 1980. Survivors include her children, Joyce (John) Coolbaugh of Elmira, Geraldine Ochab of FL, Bernadine Nichols of Bradford, PA, Ralph (Mary) Nichols of FL, Mary Nichols of Elmira, Duane Nichols of Elmira, and Linda Nichols of Elmira; sister, Margaret Nash of FL; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; close friends, Rev. John Bedzyk. Genevieve was a member of the Elmira Christian Center for many years and she also was a missionary for the inmates at the Elmira Correctional Facility. COCHRAN Carey L.
Of Elmira, NY - Age 78 died unexpectedly at home, Monday, June 14th, 2010.
Carey is survived by his sons, Daniel (Donna) Cochran of Fletcher, NC, and
Thomas Cochran of Elmira; daughter, Majil Cochran of Wilmington, DE; six
grandchildren, Daniel Cochran, Brian Figueroa, Kari Cochran, Trey Cochran,
Alexis Seymour, Julia Seymour; and several brothers and sisters. He was
predeceased by his wife, Edith Elaine Cochran in 2004. Carey retired from the
United States Army, serving in the Korean War, Viet Nam, and several other
conflicts defending the freedom of his country. He was very proud to receive
the bronze star and several other certificates of honor. Carey also worked many
years for Clute Ford and Mercury and enjoyed the people he was friends with and
helped while working. In Carey's free time he was an avid auto mechanic and he
loved to fish. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral

Mrs. Alice E. Fields, 78, of Gillett RD2, died February 12, 1987 at the Bradford County Manor. She was born February 11, 1909 in Mansfield, PA. Mrs. Fields was a retired employee of the Remington Rand division of Sperry-Rand. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Cleone Buchanan, Horseheads, NY; son, Jack Fields of Gillett; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four brothers; three sisters; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Allen E. Fields, in 1986. Funeral and committal services were held at the Olthof Funeral Home in Elmira, NY on February 14 with Rev. MAXWELL L. COLE
Maxwell L. Cole, 83, of Pine Valley, NY died Saturday, January 18, 1992
at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY. He was born on May 21, 1908 in East
Troy, PA, the son of Frank and Bessie (VanHorn) Cole. He was a graduate of Troy
High School and Meeker's Business Institute. He retired as an accountant
for American Warming and Ventilating after 46 years of service. Max was active
in the Masonic Order where he was a member of Union Lodge #95 F & AM,
Corning Consistory, Cashmere Grotto and Kalurah Shrine and was a former
conductor of its Oriental Band. He was a member of the Pine Valley United
Methodist Church and the Pine Valley Senior Citizens and had been an
enthusiastic bowler. His family includes his wife, Mrs. Shirley (Davies) Cole;
daughter and son-in-law, Maxine and Clarence Spaulding of Hector; sons and
daughter-in-law, George (Jerlyn) Cole of Pine City, Donald Cole of Rochester,
Terry Cole of Lockwood; stepdaughters, JoAnne (Mrs. Everett) Bennett of
Jacksonville, FL and Maxine (Mrs. Thomas) Manning of Elmira, NY; 12
grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Bernice Lewis of Towanda, PA; brothers, Wilson of
Sayre, PA, Marshall (Ethel) of Canton, Eldon (Esther) of East Troy, and Earl
(Phyllis) of Milan, PA; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a
grandson, Scott Evans, in 1991. Funeral services were held January 22 at the
Barber Funeral Home in Horseheads with the Rev. E. Gene Callihan officiating

COLEGROVE Frances J. Maynard
Age 82 of Elmira, NY, died Tuesday, September 27, 2011,
at Elcor Health Services in Horseheads, NY. Frances was the daughter of the
late Hugh and Edna (Layton) Colegrove. She was born June 14, 1929 in Corning,
NY. Surviving is her son, James (Liz) Maynard of Newport News, VA;
grandchildren, James R. (Erica) Maynard of Newport News, VA, Sabrina (Bubba)
Hall of Newport News, VA; 4 great-granddaughters, Megan, Tori, Natalie, Adrian;
brother, Keith Colegrove of Horseheads, NY. She is predeceased by her
ex-husband, Earl Maynard; and her companion, Donald Butters. Frances worked for
Westinghouse and Capabilities for several years. At one time she was an active
member of the Elmira Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed traveling, crafting and
flower arranging. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof
Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY Saturday, October 1st,
2001 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral and committal services will be held

COLEMAN - WORDEN, Anna Louise
A longtime resident of the Elmira community, died Sunday evening, May 11, 2008,
at St. Joseph's Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit at the age of 80. Born on April
7, 1926 in Elmira, Anna was one of sixteen children born to Charles & Anna
Force Coleman. She was married to Wesley Worden for over 35 years until he
predeceased her in 1985. Anna was employed by Fasset, Bendix and later retired
from Puralator. In serving the Lord, she was a member of First United Church of
Christ for many years. A well-known local bowler, she was a member of the
Bowling Hall of Fame and was active in the Senior Olympics as a runner.
Surviving are her six children, William (Patricia) Worden, AR; Carol Worden,
Elmira; Gary (Patti) Worden, State College, PA; Claire (Jay) Larrison, Elmira;
Scott (Mary) Worden, Vestal; and Joette (Andy) Foster, Southport; several
grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews and many family
friends also survive. In addition to her parents and husband, Anna was
predeceased by several siblings. Family and friends will be received at
Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Wednesday May
14, 2008 between the hours of 5-8 p.m. Funeral services for Anna will take
place at the funeral home Thursday morning, at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Jane
S. Winters officiating. Graveside services will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial
Park. Memorials may be directed to the Chemung County Office of the Aging,
"Alzheimer's Facilitator Group" PO Box 588 Elmira, NY 14902-0588 in
Anna's memory. Her family wishes to extend their gratitude to the St. Joseph's Hospital
Skilled Nursing Unit on the 5th floor for their outstanding care and support
that was given to Anna in her final days; especially, Charlotte.

COLEMAN Landon E.
Age 73, of New Port Richey, FL. He was born June 2, 1936 in Elmira, son of the
late Charles and Anna (Force) Coleman and died Friday, July 3, 2009, in FL. He
is survived by his loving companion, Karen Kline of FL; children, Lanny Joe,
Cynthia, Ronald and Ralph Coleman; seven grandchildren, six brothers and two
sisters. Lanny retired from Carrier Corp. in Syracuse. Family and friends are
invited to his graveside service on Wednesday, July 8th, at 2 p.m. in Forest
Lawn Memorial Park. Walter J. Kent Funeral Home is assisting the family.

COLEMAN - MARY ELIZABETH HURLEY
Mary Elizabeth Hurley, 63, of 1318 Grand Central Avenue, Elmira, NY, died
Tuesday, September 8, after a short illness. She was a communicant of St.
Cecelia's Church. Her son, Timothy, died in 1979. She is survived by her
husband, Robert T.; his mother, Rachel Coleman of Elmira, NY.; a son and
daughter-in-law, Robert and Mary Hurley of Horseheads, NY.; a daughter and
son-in-law, Colleen and Daryl Wheeler of Millerton; grandson, Jason Timothy
Hurley; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Helen Coleman and John and
Rose Coleman, both of Elmira, NY, Donald Coleman of Columbus, Ohio, and Joseph
Coleman of Elmira, NY.; a sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and James Bannon of
Wellsburg, NY.; and several nieces and nephews. A prayer service was held at
the Barrett Funeral Home Friday, September 11, followed by Mass of Christian
Burial at St. Cecelia's Church. Burial was made at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

–RUTH C. ROSENBERRY, age 91, was born August 5, 1927 in Mildred, PA the
daughter of the late Paul and Caroline (Popkie) Coleman passed away on
Monday, October 1, 2018 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility surrounded by
her loving family. Her loving husband, Ned E. Rosenberry, siblings: Gene,
Luke, Lorraine and Judy also predeceased her. She is survived by her beloved
daughters: Linda (Tom) Yusko and Lois (Scott) Kaminsky; grandchildren: Lori
(Matt) Ribble and Jason Yusko; Leigh Kaminsky and Peter Kaminsky; along with
8 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was employed at
Artistic Greeting and Planned Parenthood until her retirement. She was a
devoted wife and loving mother who enjoyed playing her piano, writing
poetry, doing her crafts and baking the best apple pies on the planet. She
was also a devoted member for years of the Bethany Lutheran Church, a member
of the choir and member of the women's crafting group. Family and friends
are invited to gather at the Bethany Lutheran Church 256 South Walnut Street
Elmira on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. Funeral services
honoring Ruth's life will follow the visitation at 4 pm. Rev. Dr. William
Lutz will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to Ned in the Forest Lawn
Memorial Park on Tuesday, October 9th at 10 am with Father Lutz conducting
the committal prayers.

Endicott, NY, son of the late James and Melissa (Barto) Collings and passed
away Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital. He is survived by
his wife of 47 years, Mary J. (Burge) Collings; daughter and son-in-law
Melissa and Charlie Roman of Erin; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and
Stacey Collings of Elmira; grandchildren Nicholas and Patrick Roman of Erin,
Samantha and Sarah Collings of Lowman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law
Charlie and Linda Burge of Beaver Dams, John and Dorothy Burge, William and
Tracey Burge, Thomas Burge all of Elmira; sister-in-law and brother-in-law
Joann and Richard Peters of Lowman; sister, Betty Pierce and brother, Ed

Richard P. Age 85 of Elmira, NY on Wednesday, August 1, 2001. Friends may call
at HOLLY-KECK & BAKER, INC. FUNERAL HOME on Saturday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 2PM. Rev. Al
Craig officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Elmira, at

survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Bernice; son and daughter-in-law,
Roger and Tami Williams of Wellsburg, NY; daughter, Nancy Colony of Atlanta,
GA; daughter and son-in-law, Terry and John O'Laughlin; son and
daughter-in-law, Russell and Edna Colony; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and
Steve Rakich, all of Elmira; 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; many
brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. Richard was a retiree from the former
Facet Corp. with 30 years of service.
AYERIE COMFORT JR.(SRGP 11873)
Ayerie (Junie) Comfort Jr., 69, of Breesport, NY, died Sunday, February
10, 1991 at his home. Mr. Comfort retired from Yellow Freight Truck Lines in
1981 after 41 years of service. He was very active in Cub Scouting, the
Fire Department, the Teamsters Union and the Breesport Methodist Church among
other organizations. Among his survivors are his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Helen
Spencer Comfort; daughters and sons-in-law, Nina and Gerald Stout of Columbia
Cross Roads, PA, Patricia and Stewart Rankin of Horseheads, MaryJane and Gerald
Austin of Breesport; son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Paula Comfort of Orange
Park, FL; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral and
committal services were held at the Breesport United Methodist Church on
February 14 (11 am) with the Rev. Gerald Smith officiating and interment to be
in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Arrangements were by the Barber Funeral
Home in Horseheads. Memorials in his name may be made to the Breesport United

GERALD J.
COMFORT a longtime resident of Horseheads, passed away Wed. Apr. 25,
2018 at Arnot-Ogden Medical Center following complications from a stroke at
the age of 76. Born on May 3, 1941 in Elmira, Gerald was the son of the
late, Joseph & Vivian Lusk Comfort. He served his country in the U.S. Army
from 1961-1964. "Jerry" married Linda Stahle in 1963. He is also survived by
their children, Scott (Marcie) Comfort, Big Flats; and Dawn (Brian)
Hilliard, Horseheads; 4 grandchildren, Caleb "CJ" (fiancée, Amanda Carlson)
Comfort, Emily (Jordan) Nero, Joseph (Kim Paulin) Lackey, and Hunter
Hilliard; sisters, Linda Gardner, Corning; and Patricia (George) Poley,
Horseheads; nieces, nephews and family friends. In addition to his parents,
Gerald was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Comfort. He retired from N.Y.S.
Dept. of Corrections, Willard Drug Treatment Center after 12 years of
dedicated service. An outdoorsman, "Jerry" enjoyed hunting and fishing. In
service to his Lord and Savior, he was an active member of Full Gospel
Church Catlin. "Jerry" was a true family man in every sense of the word.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens,
1126 Broadway, Southport/Elmira on Sun. Apr. 29, 2018 between the hours of
2-5 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 5:15 p.m. with full military honors
accorded Mr. Comfort. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at

Age 62, of Horseheads, NY, died
peacefully on Friday, March 19, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital. She is survived
by her sons, William D. Jordan, Jr., Michael E. Jordan, and Kevin J. Jordan;
grandchildren, Nancy, Adam, and Mitchell; sisters, Dixie (Bob) VanHouten, Mavis
(Paul) White, and Sherry (Ken) Theetge; brothers, Jay Comfort and Dale (Bonnie)
Comfort; former husband, William D. Jordan, Sr.; and special friend, Avon
Palmer. Gloria was predeceased by brothers, Linden, Lester, Vernon, Ronald, and
Marvin; also sisters, Ruth Sampson, Winnie Struble, and Jean Birch. She was an

HERBERT J. COMFORT, OF Elmira,, NY ate 92 died Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at the VA Hospital in Bath, NY after a battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his devoted, loving and faithful wife of 53 years, Marta (Martha) Teus Comfort, his parents, his brothers, Merrill E. Comfort, Lawrence L. Comfort and Roger I. Comfort, sisters, Bernice Comfort Stage and Eleanor Comfort Eccles. He is survived by his sister; Miriam Comfort Sabatini of Watkins Glen, NY and brother, Bernard W. (Wanda) Comfort of Baldwinsville, NY and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Mrs. Comfort was a veteran of World War II serving in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge ending his career in 1946 with 17 years of military service with the US Army. He was employed by Remington-Rand Division of Sperry-Rand Corp. as a heat treater, which he did until his retirement. He, along with his wife was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. In respect of his wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Mr. Comfort will be cremated and laid to rest beside his loving wife in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Elmira. JOSEPH A. ‘POP’ COMFORT, age 81 of Horseheads, NY, died, May 29, 2001 at the St. Joseph’s Hospital after being surrounded by his loving family. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Eva & Alvah Comfort; his son, Joseph Lee Comfort; grandson, Daniel Poley; brother, Lloyd Comfort; and his sister, Leona Stansfield. Joseph proudly served in the US Army 94th Infantry Division, is a WWII Veteran; a member of Elmwood Baptist Church. He participated in the Senior Olympic Games, winning several swimming awards. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman and nature lover. He loved his animals “big Bird” in Florida and his squirrels in his backyard at his home in Horseheads. –MAVIS J. WHITE born Sept, 28, 1941 in Cortland, NY, the daughter of the
late William and Helen (Spencer) Comfort, went home to be with the Lord on
Friday, Oct. 23, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Her
brothers: Linden, Marv, Rodney, Norm, Lester and Vernon Comfort; sisters:
Eugena Birch, Ruth Sampson, Winifred Struble and Gloria Jordon also preceded
her in death. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband: Paul White

RODNEY ‘JAY’
COMFORT age 69, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014, at
Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Jay is the son of the late William and Helen
(Spencer) Comfort. He is survived by his sisters, Dixie (Bob) VanHouten,
Mavis (Paul) White and Sherry (Ken) Theetge; brother, Dale (Bonnie) Comfort;
and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Jay was predeceased
by his brothers, Linden, Lester, Vernon, Ronald and Marvin; also sisters,
Ruth Sampson, Winnie Struble, Jean Birch and Gloria Jordan. He retired from
the Elmira City School District. Jay was an avid bowler, Dallas Cowboys and
Los Angeles Dodgers Fan. Jay was a wonderful brother and will be missed very

He was born January 2, 1933 in Elmira, son of the late Stanley and Syble (Osborne) Comfort and died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his daughter, Linda Comfort Tomaino; and brother, Raymond Comfort. CONNELLY -JEANETTE L. LONG age 96 of Waverly, NY
formerly of Caton, NY passed away Tues. Dec. 1, 2020 following a long and
full life. Born on Jan. 7, 1924 in Monroe NY she was the daughter of the
late, Earl & Genevieve Grassfield (Avery) Connelly. In service to her
country, Jeanette served in the Women's Air Corps during WWII. She married
Stanley Long and together they shared a wonderful life until his passing.
Jeanette was an active member at the Penn. Ave. United Methodist Church,
Caton Vol. Fire Dept., Elmira Heights Legion, volunteered at the Bath V.A.
and was employed at St. Joe's Hospital as a nurse's aide. Her first love was
that of a homemaker and caring for her family. She is survived by her
children, Tom B. Long, Zepherhills, FL and Sue (Barry) Garrison, Corning,
NY; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; brother, Jack (Kitty)
Connelly; along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents
and husband, Jeanette was predeceased by her son, Gary; grandson, Patrick
and siblings Madeline Matijka, Barbara Mousaw, Donna Middaugh and Ben
Connelly Jr. All services have been handled privately at her family's
convenience. The family would like to thank the staff of Elderwood at
Waverly, especially the third-floor unit for their loving care of Jeanette.
She will be interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park beside her husband,

TICE Delia M. Age 84, of Elmira, NY, died on Sunday, March 19, 2006, at St.
Joseph's Hospital in Elmira. Delia was born in Elmira, daughter of the late
Robert and Jennie (Poyer) Connell. Survivors include sons, Joseph S. (Phyllis)
Jr., Ronald, William, Alton (Gayle), Jack (Mary), Donald (Bonnie) and Michael
(Betsy) Tice; daughter, Sandra Elston; many grandchildren and
great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Delia was predeceased by her husband,
Joseph in 1985; and daughter, Yvonne Christian. Delia will be sadly missed by

He was born February 15, 1924 in Elmira, son of the late Frank and Antoinette (Delmonte) Cook and died Tuesday, November 15, 2005, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center after an extended illness. COOK -SHIRLEY J. (COOK) THOMAS, 76, of Warwik,
RI, a retired Salvation Army
Minister, died Friday, August 16, 2019 at Rhode Island Hospital in
Providence, RI. She was the beloved wife of Ralph E. Thomas Jr. with whom
she celebrated 56 years of marriage. Born in Elmira, NY to Herbert M. and
Twila J. (Hart) Cook she graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1960 and the
Salvation Army Training College in 1962. After retiring as a Salvation Army
Officer with 41 years of active service she moved to Warwick in 2003 where
she continued, in retirement, to serve in the Salvation Army for another
five years. Aside from her husband, she is survived by two sons: Ralph E.
Thomas III & Kevin J. Thomas (wife Myndi); one brother: Albert F. Cook; two
sisters: Sharon E. Ellis & Brenda Brink and four grandchildren: Samantha,
Nathan, Alex & Amber. She was the sister of the late Larry E. Cook, Herbert
M. Cook Jr., Mary R. Hall and Nancy L. Gates. Her funeral service will be
held at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue,
West Warwick, RI on Saturday, August 24 at 2:00 PM. Calling hours will be

by her husband Nicholas in 1995 and is survived by her large, loving family.

WILLIAM BRANT COOPER age 84 of Horseheads. He
was born January 10, 1936 in Elmira, the son of the late William Benedict
and Ruth (Dieterle) Cooper and passed away peacefully at home on Saturday
October 24th 2020. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his
first wife, Beverly Nichols Cooper, in 1997. He is survived by his wife of
16 years, Shirley (Baker) Cooper; sons Gary Brant Cooper of Virginia, and
Alan Scott Cooper of Horseheads; along with his grandchildren, Ian Cooper,
Hannah Cooper, and Sarah Cooper, all of Virginia; and stepsons Alan Baker of
Schenectady, NY, and Thomas Baker of Elmira Heights. Bill worked for 12
years for Hadco in Waverly, NY before his retirement. Family and friends are
invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St. in Horseheads, on
Wednesday October 28th 2020 from 11 am to 1 pm. Masks will be required along

Age 84, formerly of Elmira, NY, died on Friday, September 9, 2011 in Arizona.
He was born on February 16, 1927 in Mosherville, PA. He was predeceased by his

Copp, and sister, Ermil Magno. Raymond is survived by his children, Susan Chase

COURTRIGHT Tracey LaVerne
Age 84, of Lowman, NY, died early Sunday morning, November 25, 2007, at
Appleridge in Bethany Village, Horseheads, after a four-month illness. A
longtime Masonic Lodge member and World War II veteran stationed both in France
and Germany. Mr. Courtright was especially proud of his family and of his
61-year marriage to his wife, Annette. Born in North Chemung July 24, 1923, Mr.
Courtright graduated from Elmira's Southside High School in 1941 and went to
work at Schweizer Aircraft before joining the war effort in 1944. When he
returned in 1946, he worked for 4 years at Opeco Manufacturing in Groton, NY,
and then he resumed work at Schweizer and later worked for many years for
Chemung County at the Chemung County Health Center. Mr. Courtright was involved
in a number of charitable organizations, with memberships at Southern Light
Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, and the United Methodist Church in North Chemung.
Mr. Courtright spent nearly all of his life in the rural outskirts of Elmira,
but he had a broad view of life, traveling frequently with wife, Annette to
places as far away as Hawaii and California as well as Florida and the eastern
seaboard. Before he had grandchildren, he loved nothing more than
"tinkering" with machinery on the family farm, and he was renowned
for his understanding of complex machinery. He was particularly proud of his
children and their professional accomplishments in academia, business,
architecture, and aerospace industries. When his grandchildren were born, he
enjoyed visiting them in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and
Massachusetts, and having them visit him and his wife, Annette. Besides his
wife, Annette, he is survived by four children and their spouses, Kathleen
Yorkis (Paul), Anson Courtright (Mary Beth), Suzanne Woodruff (Jay), and Hans
Courtright (Mary); nine grandchildren, Maria Charnigo, Jacob Yorkis, Laura
Mullen, Katie and Sarah Woodruff, Megan and Julie Courtright, Aidan and Michael
Courtright; nephew, Douglas Courtright; and numerous cousins and extended
family. Calling hours will be held Thursday, November 29, from 6-8 p.m. at

away after a brief illness Sunday, May 15, 2016, at home surrounded by her
loving family. Marjorie was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband,
Melvin E. Hayes, in September 2015. She is survived by her loving sons and
daughters, Bonnie (Charles) Breines of Boynton Beach, FL, Dennis (Kim) Hayes
of Waneta Lake, NY, Judy (Barry McCuen) of Corning, NY, Chet (Karen) Hayes
of Horseheads, NY, Keith (deceased in 2011) Lisa Hayes of Elmira Heights,
NY, Sheldon Hayes of Alpine, NY, Brian Hayes of Breesport, NY, David (Abby)
Hayes of Lamoka Lake, NY, and Daniel (Judiann) Hayes of Horseheads, NY; over
90 grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild;
sisters and brother, Carol, Alice and Benjamin Cowan, brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law, Norman Hayes, Doug (Mary) Hayes, and Delores Strope all of
Horseheads, NY; and several extended family members and friends. Marjorie
was also predeceased by son, Keith Hayes; and brothers-in-law, Justin and
Kenneth Hayes and all her siblings, Thelma Frost, Russell, Roy, Samuel Cowan
and Ted Wilcox. Marjorie was the consummate mother, with nine children, and
over 90 grand children, great grandchildren. She honed her motherly skills
to perfection. She never practiced tough love. It was always with a kind
heart, patience and a motto that we can all learn from: "Just Be Nice" She
will be missed by all who remain, but welcomed by all who went before her.
She is particularly looking forward to visit with Nanny and a reunion with
her husband and partner of over 70 years. She lived a good life with her
husband, Mel, in homes in Horseheads, Delray Beach, and Lamoka Lake. The
lake was a huge part of family life. Marjorie and Mel were one of the first
residences on the West side of Lamoka Lake with the cottage being completed
in 1951 and in use continuously since then. The Hayes Clan (Lamoka Lake
Rats) would arrive the day after school ended and return home the day after

ROY S. COWAN. Age 80 of 2550 Shady Acres, Mulberry, Florida formerly of Horseheads, NY, died on Friday, June 11, 2004. Roy was born January 11, 1924 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Samuel B. and Anna M. Mason Cowan. He was a veteran of WWII, serving his country with the US Army. Roy married his wife, Leone M. Ayers Cowan, on October 3, 1942, and they would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on October 3, 2004. Roy was a retired machinist at Bendix Corporation in Elmira Heights, NY, and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Mulberry, Florida. He was predeceased by his son, Army Specialist 4 John R. Cowan, who was killed in action in Vietnam on March 11, 1966. Roy was also predeceased by his parents and brothers, Russell Cowan, who was killed in WWII, and a brother, Samuel L. Cowan, who died on February 10, 1991. Roy is survived by his loving wife, Leone M. Barbara Age 75, of Florence Street, Waverly, NY, died peacefully at her home
Wednesday, July 13, 2005. Born August 21, 1929 in Corning, NY, the daughter of
the Late Jennie Gates Cox and John B. Cox and wife of the Late Rudolph
Drummond. Her brother, Robert Cox also predeceased Barbara. Barbara worked at
Harding Inc. in Elmira, New York. She was a member of the United Methodist
Church in Waverly. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who loved being a
homemaker and gardening. She will be missed by all. Surviving Barbara are her
sons, Rudolph Allen Drummond, Jr., Oakland, CA, Al L. (Michele) Drummond,
Doylestown, PA, Tyrone W. (Rose) Drummond, Omaha, NE, and G. Vincent (Diane)
Drummond, Binghamton, NY. Seven grandchildren also survive her; her sister,
Jacqueline E. (Jesse J.) Curry, Corning, NY; as well as many nieces, nephews,

JEAN MOLINA, 74, of Elmira, NY, returned home to the Lord on Tuesday July 5,
2016, peacefully at her home after a battle with cancer. Norma was born in
Sayre, PA on April 20, 1942, the daughter of Bill Cox and Rena Williams. In
life, she had a love of helping people and worked for many years at
Woodbrook Assisted Living, Capabilities Inc., and The Mark Twain Motor Inn,
where she always brightened everyone's day with her smile and personality.
She believed in "One God" and went to many different Churches in the area
experiencing all religious types. Everyone who knew Norma loved her. Her
kindness, witty personality, and bright smile was a shining beacon for those
in need of comfort and serenity. She had a deep love for her family; cooking
great food for them was one of her deep passions. When given the
opportunity, she would often show off her dance moves to her friends and
family, encouraging them to all to join in. She left many loved ones here,
including her aunts Phyllis Wilson and Gladys Williams; daughters: Elizabeth
Williams, Betty Williams, Antonia Molina, Jolanda Molina; a special daughter
Norma "Yomaris" Molina; many grandchildren and great grandchildren and a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be reuniting home to
her husband Ismael Molina, daughter Carmella Molina, and sisters Nancy
Montgomery, Mary Carrington and Lula McInnis. Family and friends are invited

Loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother - Age 84
of Horseheads, NY. She was born January 31, 1928 in Sayre, PA, daughter of the
late Myrle and Sarah (Cater) Craft and died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the
Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She was predeceased by her husband Orrin K. Swan in
2001, infant daughter Eileen Ann Swan and brother and sister-in-law Richard and
Doris Craft and is survived by her children Kenneth Swan of Horseheads (with
whom she resided), Richard (fiancée JoAnn) Swan of Elmira, and Susan (William)
Cecchini of Elmira; grandchildren and great grandchildren Kari Cecchini of
Elmira, Phyllis (Gordon) Small of SC, Timothy Swan (with children Devin and
Ricky), David (Teresa) Cecchini (with daughter Olivia); step grandson Tony
(daughter Emily) Cecchini and Melissa (Mike) Perry (with children Gavin and
Abigail); brothers John (Sharon) Craft of Horseheads; stepbrother Stanley Raub
of Elmira along with several nieces and nephews. Barbara devoted her life to
loving and caring for her family and friends and volunteering at the Arnot

Donna S. Age 57, of Horseheads, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at Arnot Ogden
Medical Center. Donna was born December 12, 1949, a daughter of the late Robert
H. and Marion Lunn Crandall. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by
her brother-in-law, H. Richard Robinson. Donna is survived by her husband of 37
years, Frederick E. Robinson of Horseheads; daughter and son-in-law, Nicole M.
and William VanAlstyne of Horseheads, with their daughters, Danielle and
Lindsey; sisters and brother-in-law, Melanie and John Voltz, and Nancy Ayers,
all of Shinglehouse, PA; sister-in-law, Mary Kay Robinson of Elmira; aunt,
Joyce Nichols of Elmira Heights; along with several nieces, nephews and
cousins. Donna was a graduate of Arnot Ogden Hospital School of Nursing,
continuing her education at Elmira College where she received her Bachelors
Degree in Nursing. She worked at Arnot Ogden Medical Center for 17 years. Donna
then was employed with the NYS Department of Corrections, working at several
different facilities in the Southern Tier. She was active in Girl Scouts,
serving as a co-leader for Girl Scout Troop 884 and as the Registrar of the
Pegasus Service Unit of the Seven Lakes Girl Scout Council. Donna was a
communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church, where she volunteered as a lector.
She was also a member of the Southern Tier Chapter of AGREGÉS, which is a
women's group supporting the Sisters of St. Joseph. Family and friends are

Mrs. Lee was an assembler operator for the Remington Rand Co. after working as an inspector for the Eclipse Co. in Elmira Heights, NY. She is survived by daughter Virginia (William E.) Herrick of Elmira, NY and LaVerna (William) Jelliff of Cayutaville, NY; five grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jean Crane of Troy, PA and Vivian Crane of Franklindale, PA; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews. CROWNINGSHIELD Robert E., Age 62, of Erin, died Fri., Mar. 14, 2008, at
Robert Packer Hospital. Bob was born in Elmira, NY, to the late Charles and
Gertrude (Tuthill) Crowningshield. He is survived by his beloved and devoted
wife of nearly 36 years, Cheryl (Whittaker) Crowningshield; much loved
children, Shawn Crowningshield of Erin, NY, Stacie and Chad Lynch of Horseheads,
NY; granddaughter and "the apple of papa's eye", Krystiana; brother,
Charles Crowningshield of Elmira, NY; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy
and Bill Rice of Breesport, NY; aunt, Shirley Tuthill of Elmira, NY; several
nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was also predeceased by his sisters, Shirley
Ricks and Nancy Roark; niece, Debra Robinson; father-in-law and mother-in-law,
Charles and Virginia Messing; and uncle, Fred Tuthill. For over 30 years he was
a blacktop operator for Lycoming Silica Sand in Horseheads. Bob was a graduate
of Southside High School, Class of 1963. He was a proud veteran of the US Air
Force serving during the Vietnam War. Many years later he received much joy
having been instrumental in the reunion of several Air Force comrades with whom
he served. In his leisure, he enjoyed woodworking, tinkering with cars, and
dirt track stock car races. A good neighbor and friend to many, Bob was always
lending a kind and helping hand to anyone who needed one. He will be missed by

CRUSENBERRY - Stanley 84, of Wellsburg, NY,
died February 18, 2006, at his home. He was born on December 24, 1921 in
Bluefield, WV. Stanley is the husband of Alice J. (Wereley) Crusenberry to whom
he married on October 1, 1950. Mr. Crusenberry was a foreman and crane operator
for the Chemung Foundry. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Sea
Bees in the Pacific Theatre. Stanley is a member and past Commander of American
Legion Post # 443 Wellsburg, and also past County Commander of 6th District. He
is a lifetime member of the Wellsburg, NY Fire Department, and was very active
in sports. Stanley is survived by his wife, Alice; sister-in-law and
brother-in-law, Dorothy and Wes Corby of Pine City, NY; brother-in-law and
sister-in-law, Jim and Debbie Wereley of Harrison, ID; numerous nieces and
nephews, great-nieces and nephews in the Elmira and West Virginia areas. Family

Loving Mother & Grandmother: Was born November 17,
1944 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late Roy B. and Mildred (Burgett) Cuer
died on Monday, February 27, 2012 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center with her
sons at her side. Her husbands, Charles J. Frutchey Sr., Richard A. Merrill and
her son, Charles "John" Frutchey II all predecease her. She is
survived by her loving sons, Christopher (Theresa) Frutchey, Todd (Jessica)
Frutchey and Shaun Merrill; grandchildren, Todd Eric Frutchey, Dean Frutchey,
Kyle Frutchey, Joseph Rogers and Mason Rogers; "special girls", Beth
Ann Haner (Chris Bieneik) and children, Aodhan Collins, Aubra Haner, Chris Jr.
and Chalenena Parker. Betty Lou was a graduate of CCC receiving her degree in
Applied Science (nursing) in 1976. She was among the first group of Hospice Nurses
trained in Chemung County. She owned and operated Nurses Azield, PC - in home
nursing care service. Was a dedicated employee of the Arnot Ogden Medical
Center working in the ER, with critical care and med/surg. She was a Chemung
County Nurse working the offices of Dr. Salsburg, Dr. Howard and Dr. Mitchell.
Betty Lou was a substitute School Nurse for SCT Boces and the Horseheads School
District, and was a recording secretary codes in the town of Horseheads. She
owned and operated Merrill's Tax service for many years. She was also an
American Red Cross Nurse. She sat on the Board of Directors for the Elmira
Heights Little League and was a member of the Professional Parents - Reach
Program. Betty Lou belonged to the following organizations: Women of the Moose
- Horseheads Chapter # 1832 where she held both Junior and Senior Region for
the Moose Chapter; VFW Elmira Post, American Legion Auxiliary Post in Elmira
Heights, the American Red Cross and was a Republican Committee member. Family

Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira/Southport, NY on Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 12:00 to

predeceased by his daughter, Wendy; and son, Todd. Deacon is survived by his
