CADY Herbert J. Sr.
Age 77, of Elmira, NY, died on Monday, July 23, 2012, at home. He was born on August 13, 1934 in Elmira, NY to the late Francis and Mahala (McMillian) Cady. Herbert was predeceased by his wife, Grace Cady, in 2003. He is survived by his son, Herbert (Cheryl) Cady Jr. of Corning; daughters, Cindy Loveless of Elmira, Roxanne (Mark) Lepkoske of Pine City and Donna (Jamie) Girardi of Elmira; brothers, Elmer (Nancy) Cady and Rodney Cady both of MD; sister, Pat Hartman of Elmira; 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, July 25th, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow there at 6 p.m. with Pastor Roger Curtis officiating. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. KYLE DANIEL CADY, age 24, of Elmira, NY, passed
away at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center on May 21, 2020. He was surrounded by
his loving family. Kyle was born in Elmira, NY, on May 26, 1995, the son of
Larry "Bud" Cady II and Elizabeth (Aylesworth) Cady. Kyle was predeceased by
his brother, Alexzander W. Aylesworth and maternal grandparents Dale and
Joan Aylesworth. Kyle attended Southside High School. He lived life to the
fullest and enjoyed spending time with his friends. He was a very caring,
loving, and giving person who wore his heart on his sleeve, and that
continued in death through the gift of organ donation. As a result of this
gift, his heart continues to beat and his spirit lives on. This was Kyle's
final act of his love for others. Kyle is survived by his parents: Larry E
.Cady II (Chrissy) and Elizabeth "Buffy" Cady, and brother, Jason
Dominikoski. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents: Larry Cady
and Janet (Cady) Cleveland. Other survivors include many aunts, uncles,
cousins, and best friend, Michael Townson. Kyle will be laid to rest at
Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Thursday, May 28. Due to Covid-19, a private

CLARENCE CAMPBELL
Clarence M. Campbell, 71, of Elmira, NY died Thursday, May 21, 1998 at Arnot
Ogden Medical Center. Clarence was a veteran of World War II and the Korean
Conflict and belonged to the VFW. He is survived by seven children; sisters,
Marie Comfort of Penn Yan, NY; Charlotte Barnes of Troy, PA, Georgia Cornell of
Elmira, NY and Blanche Elias of Pine City, N. Clarence was predeceased by two
children; sisters, Doris Kettell and Betty Jane Updike; and a brother, Clifford
Campbell. Funeral services were held at the Olthof Funeral Home in Elmira on
May 25 with the Rev. Donald Rockwell officiating and interment to be in Forest
Lawn Memorial Park. Those wishing may make memorials in Clarence's name to the

CAMPBELL Everett I. Age 77, of Erin, NY, died peacefully Monday, May 1, 2006, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born October 5, 1928 in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Millard and Charlotte Gorsline Campbell. Everett was the owner of Campbell Salvage in Van Etten, NY, for 30 years. Surviving Everett is his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Doris M. Travis Campbell of Erin, NY; son, Millard (Wes) and JoAnne Campbell of Horseheads, NY; daughters, Donna Vergason of Erin, NY, and Susan Williams of Erving, TX; grandchildren, Weston, Katrina, Dylan, and Autumn; brother, Millard and Vicky Campbell of Colchester, CT; and his faithful companion, Bear. Aug. 29, 1984 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Elmira. Friends may call at the Hills
Funeral Home, Big Flats, Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a Masonic
Memorial Service at 8 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held Saturday, at 2
p.m. at the Big Flats United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul D. Mills will

half-brother Albert Canfield of Key West, Fla; three grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews. He was born March 20, 1920 in Catlin, the son of George
Canfield and Mary Benjamin Hill (and Harry Hill). He married the former Doris
Kilbourne. He retired from Corning Glass Works in 1980, after 40 years of
service. He was a member of the Big Flats United Methodist Church, and the Big
Flats Lodge F&AM 378.
CARBONE Kevin James
Age 55 of Elmira, NY. He was born May 28, 1956 in Streeter, IL, son of the late John and Irene (Morrissory) Carbone and died Monday, December 05, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother John. Kevin is survived by his wife of 27 years, Rita (Nimtz); children Kristina Harmer, Kevin Carbone and Keri Carbone; grandchildren Alexander, Liam and Zoe Harmer; sisters Margie (Steven) Shaw and Kimberley (Gabe) McAllister; brother Patrick Carbone; nieces and nephews Mark, Holly, Michael and Allison; stepmother Joan Carbone; mother-in-law Josephine Nimtz along with other extended family. Kevin spent the last 15 years as an over the road truck driver, until a year ago when he was diagnosed with cancer. The only thing he loved more than driving was spending time with his family. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Thursday, December 8th from 4 to 7 pm and again on Friday, December 9th from 10 to 11 am. His funeral service will be held at 11 am. Rev. illness. Born July 15, 1917, in Utica, NY to the late John and Eva Karwacz
Dec. Predeceased by her first husband, Burton G. Hall; her second husband,
Larry Carello; daughters, Suzanne Marie Dence and Linda Kay Crowell; her
son, George Lee Hall; her sisters, Stella Roback, Wanda Cepziel, Gladys
Jones and Sue Pierson; her brothers, Leo and Adolph Dec. She is survived by
her daughters, Virginia (Jerry) Aman, Spanish Fort, AL, Joyce (Robert) Aman,
Candor, NY, Rebecca (Michael) Rybak, Jr., Aurora, OH; daughter-in-law, Elsa
Hall, Dover, NJ; and son-in-law, Douglas Crowell, Beverly, MA.; 13
grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In her
later years, Helen was a communicant of Christ the Redeemer Parish in

Age 62, of Wellsburg, NY, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 27, 2013. He was born on March 3, 1951 in Elmira, NY to Delos and Frances (Cooper) Carl. Delos was predeceased by his father, Delos Carl and brother, Gerald Carl. He is survived by his mother, Frances Carl of Wellsburg; daughter, Kayla Carl of Elmira; sons, Delos Carl Jr. and Jesse Carl, both of Elmira; sisters, Connie Newell and Diane Carl, both of Elmira; and two grandchildren. Age 66 of Elmira, NY peacefully died and Savior on Thursday, November 13, 2008.
Robert was born on May 31, 1942 in Farmington, PA, son of the late Paul and
Irene (Brimmer) Carl. Survivors include his loving wife, Norma; sons, Robert
(Terri) Buchanan and Robert Carl II; step-children, Hillary (1st Lt F. Justin)
Evert, Janine Geiger, Shelly Grant, Dale Johnson and Roger (Missy) Johnson;
sisters, Ruth (John) Barnes, Laura Cornwell and Margaret (Raymond) Kastenhuber;
brothers, Howard (Jackie) Carl and Larry (Phyllis) Carl; grandchildren, Bobby,
Teja, Chasiti, Jacqueline, Whitney, Kaleigh, Brianna, RJ, Joe, and Josh;
several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Robert was
predeceased by his sister, June Taylor; brothers, Gordon, Keith, Stanley and
Ronald Carl. Robert retired as a self-employed contractor. He was dearly loved
by his family and friends and will be deeply missed. Family and friends are

CARLYLE Harry F. Age 78, of Lowman, NY. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, who went home to be with the Lord on December 10, 2003. He left behind a devoted wife of 56 years, Anna J. Carlyle; a son, Joseph (Cathy) Carlyle of Waverly; a daughter, Melanie Haxton of Waverly; two sisters, Elloween (Carl) Pierce of Halsey Valley, and Alice Frisbie of Mecklenberg; two brothers, William "Bill" (Gwen) Carlyle of Bolivar, NY, and Keith (Doreen) Carlyle of Halsey Valley; four grandchildren, Larry and Tim Haxton, Heather (David) Wilkerson, and Cassie (Jeff) Worden; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Helen (Avery) Carlyle; a sister, Helen Carlyle; and a grandson, Boyd Carlyle. Harry was a 1943 graduate of the Waverly High School, a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army and in 1949 he graduated from Honalogical Institute of Pittsburgh, PA. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, bowler, golfer and raced cars for many years at a number of dirt tracks in NY, including the old Chemung Speedrom. He drove Truck for many years for various companies, and was presently employed by State Line Auto Auction in Waverly. He was a member of the Waverly Moose Lodge, Waverly VFW and the Elmira American Legion. –LINDA (CARMAN) CRANE age 67 of Elmira, NY. She was born January 3, 1948 in
Elmira, NY, daughter of the late Jess E. and Cora G. Carman and passed away
Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at home surrounded by her family. She was
predeceased by her husband, Keith M Crane Sr. Linda is survived by her
daughters: Jennifer (Walter) Granger of Elmira, Lisa (Michael) Russell, Tina
Crane, sons: Rex Crane and Keith Crane II all of Elmira, along with several
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Linda was
a homemaker who enjoyed socializing and visiting Light's Bakery. Family and

CLIFFORD G. CARPENTER JR., 68, of RR 3, Box 3256 Laceyville, Pa., (Silvara) died at his home in Silvara on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, after an illness. He was formally from the Elmira, N.Y. area. He was born in Elmira Heights, N.Y., on Nov. 17, 1934, the son of the late Clifford and Eva Harvey Carpenter Sr. Mr. Carpenter attended school through Volunteers of America and became a minister, serving his Lord for two years. He later became a truck driver, driving for Benscoter Trucking in Laceyville. He was also employed by A.B. Cole Trucking in Meshoppen, Pa., and also many trucking companies in the Elmira, N.Y. area. He was a member of the Silvara United Methodist Church. He was an avid bowler, bowling in various leagues at Shadowbrook, Tunkhannock, Pa., and in the Elmira, N.Y. area. Surviving is his wife of 39 years, Helen M. (Marbaker) Carpenter. Three daughters and spouses, Cindy (Duane) Chapman of Laceyville, Kathy (Richard) Miller of Wyalusing, Pa., and Christina (Bob) Engelman of Schuykill Haven, Pa. Two sons and spouses, Clifford (Wanda) Carpenter III of Oregon; and William Carpenter of Pottsville, Pa.: a step-daughter and husband Mary Ann (Sonny) Oldroyd of Winder, Ga., and a step-son and wife, Floyd (Laurie Ann) Millard of Cohoes, N.Y. Three sisters and spouses, Myrtle Kliner of Elkland, Pa., Lillian (Allan) Comfort of Pine City, N.Y. and Erma (Neal) Corey of Elmira, N.Y. and three brothers and spouses; Lester Harvey of Wellsboro, Pa., William (Vivian) Carpenter of Michigan, and Merle (Gayle) Carpenter of Elmira, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Clifford G. Carpenter Jr., 68, of RR 3, Box 3256 Laceyville, Pa., (Silvara)
died at his home in Silvara on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, after an illness. He was
formally from the Elmira, N.Y. area. He was born in Elmira Heights, N.Y., on

CARPENTER EVA Larina Harvey
Eva Larina Carpenter, 76, of Elmira Heights, NY, died Monday, April 6,
1992 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Eva attended Fassett Baptist Church and
was a member of the Epiphany Sisters and D.A.V. Auxiliary Jack Swan Chapter 13.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Lester and Gaylene Harvey of
Tioga, PA, Clifford G. and Helen Carpenter Jr. of Laceyville, PA, Myrtle E.
Kleiner of Elkland, PA, William C. and Vivian L. Carpenter of Monroe, MI,
Lillian D. and Alan D. Comfort of Pine City, NY, Merle and Gayle Carpenter of
Elmira, NY and Erma and Neal Corey of Elmira Heights, NY with whom she resided;
three brothers, several grandchildren; great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford G.
Carpenter Sr., in 1977 and two children. Services were held at the Barrett
Funeral Home on April 17 with the Rev. Donald Rockwell officiating and burial

CARSON
–CONNIE L. HANER HANCOCK, age 68, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July
11th, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Elmira,
NY on April 26th, 1949 to the late Edsel Carson and Dorothy (McCann) Carson.
She married Bill Hancock on July 24th, 1993 and spent 24 loving years
together. Connie is predeceased by her first husband Jack Tillotson in 1979,
daughter Maria Swansbrough in 1998, and her grandson Michael Swansbrough.
She is survived by her husband; Bill Hancock, brother Carl (Judy) Carson
daughter Judy Haner (Chip), son Scott (Phyllis) Haner, son Billy Hancock
(Heather), daughter Tammy (George) Wright, daughter Valerie Gauvin, several
grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews,
and cousins. Connie graduated from Southside High School in 1967 and went on
to receive a Bachelor's of Science from Elmira College in 1989. She later
established her own accounting business, Hancock Tax and Accounting. She was
a wildlife rehabilitator which she thoroughly enjoyed. She enjoyed hunting,
fishing, traveling, and spending time with her family, especially her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on
Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 11 AM at the Pennsylvania Avenue United
Methodist Church, 1238 Pennsylvania Avenue, Pine City, NY. Burial will
follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial

Town of Southport Resident - Was born August 17, 1925 in Camptown, PA the son
of the late Leroy and Ruth (Crompton) Carson went home to be with his Lord on
Saturday, September 5, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 84. His
loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy (McCann) Carson predeceased him April 18,
2009. His granddaughter, Maria and great-grandson, Michael also preceded him in
death. Edsel is survived by his best friend, "Rusty"; son and daughter-in-law,
Carl and Judy Carson of Horseheads, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and
Bill Hancock of Millport, NY; sisters, Doris (Herschel) Carico of Columbia
Cross Roads, PA, Phyllis (Al) McIntosh of Pine City, NY, Linda (Lyle) Wheeler
of Erin, NY; sister-in-law, Betty (Sim) Hughson of Lowman, NY; grandchildren,
Corey (Francis) Carson, Ann (Keith) Bailey, Ron Mallacoccio Jr., Theresa (Dave)
Butler and Steve Mallacoccio, Judy Haner and Scott Haner; great-grandchildren,
Kristina Haner, Sara and Bailey Butler; along with several nieces and nephews.
Edsel was a Veteran of the USMC and proudly served in the South Pacific during
WWII. He retired from Corning, Inc. as a Foreman after numerous years of
dedicated service. He was a life-member of the American Legion Skinner Ernest
Memorial Post # 1612 in Big Flats, NY and was an avid country music fan. His
beloved family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, September 10,
2009, from 11:00 to 12:00 (noon) at the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church,
1238 Pennsylvania Ave., Pine City, NY. A Memorial Service honoring his life
will follow the visitation at noon. The Reverend Mark Erway will celebrate
Edsel's service. Interment will take place in Forest LawnMemorial Park

CARTWRIGHT Clifford "Popo"
Of Elmira died peacefully, Friday evening, September 10, 2010 at Arnot-Ogden
Medical Center following an illness at the age of 83. Clifford was born on June
24, 1927 in Campbell, NY son of the late Martin & Ruby Cartwright. He
married Betty Jane "Nema" Thompson nearly 67 years ago on November
25, 1943 and she predeceased him on November 11, 2008. Clifford was an over the
road truck driver employed by C.R. Clark Enterprises for many years until his
retirement. His many interests included, traveling to Florida and enjoying warm
winters there, landscaping, camping, dancing with his beloved Betty Jane and
caring for the many squirrels he befriended. Clifford was an avid sports fan
fond of all the New York Teams, especially the NY Yankees. His greatest joy was
that of his family who cherish his memory; five children, Robert (Sandra)
Cartwright, Saco, ME; Linda Donovan, Big Flats; Clifford (Erica) Cartwright,
West Palm Beach, FL; Paul (Karen) Cartwright, Montour Falls; JoAnn Box,

Bessie Marion Formerly of Elmira, NY Age 88, of Cape Coral/Maltacha, FL, died
peacefully Sunday, December 16, 2001 at Hospice North in Cape Coral, FL. She
was born June 6, 1913 in Massena, NY the daughter of the late David and Nettie
(Morgan) Carvino. Bessie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph
Henderson January 19, 1976. Moving to Cape Coral in 1961, she was a member of
the First Christian Church of Port Charlotte, Fort Myers White Shrine # 4, Lee
County Order of Amaranth, Cape Coral Eastern Star, Lehigh Rebekah # 68, Fort
Myers Rebekah # 75 and LAPM. She loved to be a Pink Lady for over 20 years for
the Lee Memorial Hospital and Cape Coral Hospital. She is survived by step-son,
Robert S. Henderson and his wife Loretta of Manlius, NY; daughter-in-law, Nancy
Henderson of Petersboro, NY; niece, Marabeth Ransom of Enterprise, AL; nephew,
David Carbino of North Port, FL; cousin, May Boop of Ontario, Canada; along
with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Elmira, NY - He will swallow up death in victory: and the Lord God will wipe
away tears from off faces. Isaiah 25:8 Our Heavenly Father wrapped his arms
around Blanche at her home surrounded by the care of her loving family on
Thursday, February 18, 2010. he was born October 27, 1931, in Binghamton, NY to
the late Erwin and Irene Cashman. She is survived by her devoted daughter and
son in law, Renee and Ron Unwin, Elmira; her, grandson, Aaron LaGier, Elmira;
and her great-grandchildren, Zachary, Connor and Julian. She is also survived
by her sisters, Phyllis Judge, Rochester; Donna Bartow, NC; and sisters and
brothers in-law, Grace and Tom Creagh, Nora and Bob Smith, both of Binghamton;
as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son, Robert E.
LaGier (2004), and brothers Erwin Jr. and Bert Cashman. She was met at the
gates of heaven by her nephew, Ed Creagh who also went to be with our Lord on
February 16, 2010. She was also predeceased by the love of her life, Chet
Kowalski (1996), who is dancing with her in Heaven right now. Blanche graduated
from Binghamton North High School and Corning Community College with honors.
She was a 30 year employee and retiree of Westinghouse. She was a longtime and
active member of the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church, faithfully
participating in the Thursday Women's Bible study group. She was a member of
the Elmira Heights American Legion Post 154, Polish Arts Club, the Soaring
Polka Association and the White Eagles Club. She was an avid competitive golfer
with a hole in one and member of the Willow Creek Golf Course. She also enjoyed
bowling, roller skating, gardening, sewing, and anything else that had to do
with working with her hands. She will be missed by her many, many, many friends
and her faithful companion Miss Bonnie Belle. Family and friends are invited to
celebrate her life on Saturday, February, 27, 2010 at the Pennsylvania Avenue
United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. with her pastor and friend, the Reverend
William Vallet and the Asst. Pastor at the Bible Speaks Church and longtime
friend, Jim Kellogg officiating. Graveside services will take place in Forest
Lawn Memorial Park in the springtime. Family will provide their own flowers,

Age 74, of Horseheads, NY. She was born April 1, 1936 in Elmira, daughter of
the late Paul and Pauline (Ryndziniak) Casil and died Saturday, October 30,
2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital after an extended illness. She was predeceased by
her husband, Stanley on March 10, 2010; daughter, Linda Comfort Tomaino;
sister, Kay Bowers; and brother, John Casil. She is survived by her children,
JoAnn (Scott) Greenleaf of Liverpool, NY, Darlene (Scott) Manwaring of
Horseheads; William Comfort of Big Flats; Robert Comfort of Mooresville, NC,

CASSADA, age 86 passed away
unexpectedly on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Strong Memorial Hospital in
Rochester. Bob was born in Johnson City, NY a son of Franklin and Mary
Elizabeth (VanCampen) Cassada. He is predeceased by his first wife Mary
(Kane) Cassada; brothers, William Jack and Richie Cassada. Bob is survived
by his second wife Jean (Ackley) Cassada; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary
and Susan Cassada with their family of Florida, Jeff and Barbie Cassada with
their family of Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Victoria M. and Todd
Corbin of Athens PA; granddaughter Jamie Lynn Vang with Derek Grafius of
Elmira and her children, Halie and Jordan Wenrich, Christine and Jacob
Phillips; grandson, Scott Eric Vang II with wife Kara of Waverly NY and
their children, Madison, Zaylee and Jaxson Vang. Also surviving are Jean's
children, Robert and Trudy Deyle of Florida and their children, Ethan and
Anna; Laurie Plyem of Rochester and her children, Tracey and Michelle; 10
additional great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins Bob was
a 1948 graduate of Elmira Free Academy. He was a U S Army veteran serving
during the Korean War. On November 1, 1956 Bob was appointed an officer with
the Elmira Police Department. Bob use to say that his grandfather, Franklin
Cassada, was the Chief of Police in Elmira at one time, and was not sure if
that is what drew him to the job. He retired from the Elmira Police
Department after 35 years of service. During his career Bob earned numerous
commendations and awards. He is most likely remembered for his 10 years
serving as "Officer Friendly" with the department. While in high school Bob
developed a love for swimming. This led him to his first job as a swim
instructor at the Elmira YMCA as well as their Water Safety Instructor and
Aquatic Instructor. Once he became a police officer he continued as the YMCA
Aquatic Instructor until the Y closed. Bob's greatest joy was time spent

West Water Street, Elmira on Saturday, November 28, 2015 from 12:00 noon to

CASSLEBURY CORA L. FISH. A longtime resident
of S. Broadway in Southport died very unexpectedly at her home on Sunday
evening February 20, 2005 at the age of 80. Born on August 8, 1923, she
was the daughter of Edward and Lydia Woodruff Casselbury. Cora was a
devoted wife to her husband, Robert Fish and shared many happy memories in
their 55 years of marriage until his passing in 2001. A homemaker, she
loved filling her home with her large family, watching her many grandchildren
and great-grandchildren, camping with her family and many hours playing
BINGO. Surviving are her loving children and their families. Dannie
& Constance Fish, Robert R. & Pam Fish, Lester Fish, Julia Fish, Betty
Hoyt, Helen Fish, Charles Fish & Linda Bennett; sister’s Elizabeth Bowes,
Viola Brink, Gertrude Hitchcock, and Rosie Shaffer; a brother and
sister-in-law, Francis & Dortheia Casselbury; thirteen grandchildren, eighteen
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and
husband, Cora was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Robert Hoyt and several

Raymond was born in Sayre, PA on January 2, 1948 the son of the late Walter and Harriet Richards Casselbury Sr. He was an Equipment Operator for Angelo's Sand and Gravel in West Danby, NY. Ray married his wife and best friend Linda L. Bennett Casselbury. He is pre-deceased by his son Robert Francis "Robbie" Casselbury on March 18, 1976; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Martha Dwyer Bennett and Francis Bennett Sr. Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who treasured every moment he spent with his family. Ray is survived by his loving and devoted wife Linda L. Age 93 of Millport, NY died peacefully at the Bath VA, on Monday June 25, 2012. Joe was born March 25,1919 in Niles, OH a son of the late Carmen and Philomena Latiano Castellano. He served his country honorably with the US Army serving in the African-Middle-Eastern Theatre with Gen. Patton, Sicily and Italy Campaign, and was wounded in Venafro, Italy in 1943 receiving the Purple Heart and a recipient of the American Defense Service Medal with foreign service. Joe loved playing cards, was dedicated to the Boy Scouts earning a Silver Beaver Award, ran bingo at the Horseheads Moose Club and St. Marys Church for many years, and was a Little League Baseball coach. He was also active in the Horseheads Moose Club, American Legions and VFW as past commander of the Elmira VFW Post 901. Joe is pre-deceased by his wife, Nellie (Jerzak) Castellano, son Harold Willliam Castellano and brother, Samuel Castellano. He is survived by his children, Joseph Castellano of Santa Barbara, CA, Patricia (David) Camacho of Chatsworth, CA, and Marsha Pinkston of Old Hickory, TN; 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; sisters, Catherine Harris and Lena Kish both of FL; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. CASTLE - ICE-GOVUS, Eva (Eve) Marie (Castle)
Of Elmira, NY - Was born February 8, 1926 in Boone, NC, the daughter of the
late Millard and Zora (Moritz) Castle, died on Sunday, November 23, 2008, after
an extended illness at Elcor Health Services at the age of 82. She is survived
by daughter, Deborah Fassel; son, Brian Ice; grandchildren, Heather Gillbanks,
John Stading, Tristan Fassel and E. Clark Ice III; great-grandchildren, Melissa
Gillbanks, Lauren and Erin Stading; sisters, Ruby Conley, Lela Smith, Mabel
Avery and Edna Groover; brothers, Alfred, Millard Jr. and Frank Castle; along
with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husbands,
E. Clark Ice Jr. (1969) and John D. Govus (2008); brothers, Jim, Ben, Arnold
and Claude Castle; sisters, Edith Cole, Lola Stanbery, Shirley Metzger and
Violet Jankowski. She was a longtime member of the Christ United Methodist
Church. Eve was born the tenth of sixteen children to Millard and Zora. At age
5, she moved with the family to a farm near Canton, PA. After graduating high
school with honors, she became a secretary and worked for Delmott Trucking. She
soon moved to Elmira, where she met and married E. Clark Ice, who worked as a
music teacher in the public schools. Eve was a secretary in the Land Office in
Cheyenne where Brian was born. When Clark earned his Master's Degree, the
family returned to New York, first to Cortland and then back to Elmira. Eve
loved music, playing and teaching piano, and accompanying Clark as he played
the violin. Piano duets were a favorite amusement, especially at Christmas
time. Eve's first grandchild was born soon after Clark's death and was a great
comfort to her. It tickled her when someone at the tennis court would ask how
old her daughter was, and then she would explain proudly that Heather was her
granddaughter. She took great joy in all her grand and great-grandchildren. After
her marriage to John Govus, she moved to Thomasville, NC, where she made many
new friends and was an active member of the garden club. Everywhere she lived,
she grew a garden with both vegetables and flowers. Everywhere she went, she
admired the gardens and wildlife, particularly the birds. After several years
of traveling the East Coast with John, they moved back to Elmira. Although we
miss her, we are comforted by the thought that she is still with those she
loved. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc.,
1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, from 6:00 to
8:00 p.m. Funeral Services honoring her life will be held there on Wednesday at

Age 81 of Elmira, NY. He was born March 29, 1929 in Penn Yan, NY, son of the
late Charles A. and Mildred (Morehouse) Caswell and died Thursday, July 1, 2010
at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was predeceased by his first wife
Margaret (Peg) in 1974 and is survived by his wife Betty; son and
daughter-in-law Terry and Cindy of Elmira with their children Tyler of NC,
Joshua and Jennifer of IA, Crystal and Matt with their son Ayden Charles all of
Elmira; son and daughter-in-law Charles D. and Deborah of Southport with his
children Daniel of Ithaca, Kaleigh of Syracuse; step granddaughter Emily Forman
of Southport along with several cousins. Bud graduated from EFA in 1948; was a
veteran of the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 serving during the Korean War. He
retired from the Elmira Housing Authority in 1985 after 32 years of service;
was a member of the American Legion Post 154; founding member of the V.F.W.
Post 6083 both in Elmira Heights and enjoyed bowling, hunting and golfing at
the Mark Twain Golf Course with Bob Wood, John Rosinko and Zane Palmer. Family

LESTER R. CHAMPION SR. age 72, of Elmira, NY,
passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 19, 2019 at his home. Lester was
born in Ovid, NY, son of the late Harold and Dorothy (Bennett) Champion.
Lester was also predeceased by his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and
Elizabeth Champion, sisters, Elma, Jean and Margie, brothers, Calvin, Jack
and Harold. Lester will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, dad and
grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors, along with gardening and woodworking.
Lester is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sharon; daughter,
Jennifer Champion; son, Lester Jr. (Amanda) Champion; grandchildren, Lester
III, Jessica, Noel, Monica, Johnathan, Brian, Britany, Zander and Alexis;
many great grandchildren; sister, Bonnie (Brent) Ward; brothers, Robert
(Dorothy) and Ralph (Barbara) Champion; many nieces and nephews. Family and
friends are invited to attend a graveside service for Lester on Friday,
August 23, 2019 at 1pm in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Arrangements have been

CHILSON Frederick "Rick"
Age 48, of Breesport, died Monday, April 9, 2007. Rick was born Sept. 11, 1958
in Oneida, NY, the son of Ronald and the late Audrey (Hartung) Chilson. Rick is
survived by his wife of 25 years, Gina (Uvanni) Chilson; daughters, Kelly
Chilson and Josh Benjamin of Horseheads, NY, Kendra Chilson and Chad VanAlstin,
also of Horseheads, NY; father, Ronald Chilson of Rome, NY; sister, Donna
(Fred) Zalocha of Syracuse, NY; and many nieces and nephews. Rick was employed
as a driver for Leprino Foods in Horseheads. He served as a faithful member of
the Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses here in Horseheads for the last 16
years. Always an outdoorsman, he enjoyed all natures' beauty. Having battled
Multiple Sclerosis for the last 18 years, Rick in his earlier years also
enjoyed skiing and motorcycling. Family and friends are invited to call at the
Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads, Today, Thursday, April 12,
2007, from 4-7:00 p.m. His funeral service will be celebrated in the Kingdom

ROY E. CHILSON, 70, of 1304 Pratt St., Elmira, died Thursday, March 16, 1989. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. CHRISTENSEN Howard F.
Age 88 of Elmira, NY. He was born October 21, 1924 in Elmira, son of the late William and Myrtle (Justin) Christensen and died Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. He is survived by his wife Geraldine; children Howard Christensen, Jr. and James Christensen both of AZ; Sandra (Bob) Peterson of Horseheads, Carol (Joe) Comfort of CA, Cindy Christensen of Ithaca; stepchildren Mary (Danny) Gray and Louis Johnson, Jr. both of Elmira, Paul Johnson of Elmira Heights and Robert (Diana) Johnson of Big Flats; special nephew William Christensen, Sr. of Elmira along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Howard retired from Boss Linco Trucking and was a veteran of WWII, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. CHRISTIAN Dennis P., Age 77, of Elmira, NY, died on Friday, March 14, 2008, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born on January 29, 1931 in Elmira, NY, to the late Paul and Julia Christian. Dennis was predeceased by his wife, Aldeen Christian in 2001. Survivors include his children, Paul (Cathy) Christian of Deltona, FL, and Helen Christian (Robert Keiffer) of Elmira; grandchildren, Heather Keiffer of Elmira, John Beatty of FL, James Beatty of Buffalo, NY, and Kristin McCrory of FL; great-grandchild, Adler McCrory of FL; brother, Donald Christian of Elmira; sisters, Paula Hetrick of Elmira Heights, Joyce Christian of Elmira, and Hester (Pat) Watts of VA; along with several nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, "Dingo." Ralph (Joyce) Christian, John (Elizabeth) Christian; caregiver and special
friend, Alberta Ward; along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of

CHURCHILL MADALINE M. THOMAS, 71 of Wellsburg, NY died Friday, August 20, 1993. She attended Fassett Baptist Church and was a member of Harmony Chapter O.E.S., Fassett Grange #1567. She was a distributor of Stanley Home Products for many years. She is survived by children, Robert and Donna Thomas of Elmira, Ella Ames of Erin, Larry and Charolette Thomas of Florida, William and Paula Thomas of Pine City, NY, Carol and Edward Ostrander of Elmira, Marene and Larry Gerow of Elmira; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Thomas. Funeral services were held at the Ballard and Lindgren Funeral Home on August 22 with the Rev. Donald Rockwell officiating and interment to be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
CICORA Clyde A.
Age 95, of Horseheads, formerly of Elmira, died Monday, August 17, 2009. He was
born on November 30, 1913 in Renovo, PA, a son of Franics and Carrie Schlegel
Cicora. Clyde was predeceased by his wife Loretta Rosinski Cicora, and
brothers, John, Luther, and Wayne Cicora. Clyde is survived by daughter and
son-in-law, Joyce and John Sponyoe of Naples, FL; sons and daughters-in-law,
Thomas and Kathleen Cicora of Troy, NY, James and Darlene Cicora of Elmira,
Richard and Kathleen Cicora of Horseheads; sister Lucille Gormley of Michigan;
sisters-in-law, June Cicora and Lillian Cicora, both of Elmira; 7 grandchildren
and 12 great-grandchildren. Clyde was retired from General Electric in Elmira
with 40 years of service. He lived on Lyon Street in Elmira for 57 years, where
he and Loretta raised their family and was a long time communicant of St.
Mary's Church, Elmira. He especially enjoyed the time spent with family at
their cottage on Seneca Lake. An avid outdoorsman, Clyde loved to fish and took
up archery at age 90. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of
Walnut and Water Sts., on Thursday, August 20, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
A funeral service will follow at 6:15 p.m. Private burial will be at Forest

CILLY - MILLER, Helen I.
A longtime resident of Christian Hollow Rd. passed peacefully at Broad Acres
Health and Rehabilitation Facility, Wellsboro, Monday morning, September 1,
2008 where she had been receiving care at the age of 87. Born on June 30, 1921
in Bentley Creek, PA; Helen was the daughter of Horace & Loretta Snyder
Cilly. She was married to Darwin Miller in 1941 and he predeceased her in 1989.
Helen was a homemaker, she enjoyed reading, and provided a comfortable home.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Franklin St. Church. Surviving is her
loving family, a son, M. Darwin (Carol) Miller, West Elmira; 4 grandchildren,
Barry Miller, Shawna (Rick) Comfort, Beth (Dave) Hodge and Aaron Miller; 2
great grandchildren, Adam Comfort and Tyler Sparling; a sister, Lucille Dunn,
Elmira; a brother, Armin (Betty) Silley, Montour Falls; nieces, nephews and
family friends who will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens,
1126 Broadway, Southport on Thursday afternoon, September 4, 2008 between the
hours of 3-5 p.m. Funeral services will follow the time of visitation at 5:15
p.m. with committal prayers in the Gardens. Burial will take place in Forest
Lawn Memorial Park at her families convenience. In addition to her parents and
husband, Helen was predeceased by her brother, Eugene Silley who gave his life
