BOGACZYK Dorothy C. Goodwin
Of Copley Street, Elmira, NY: Was born July 9, 1925 in Blossburg, PA the daughter of the late Vincent and Bessie (Kincinski) Bogaczyk passed on to the free world on February 23, 2013 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She retired from the Fairway Spring Company where she spent most of her adult life working. Her husband, Leonard F. Goodwin preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Larue, granddaughter, Jamie Morita and her son, Gene Goodwin. Also surviving are Gertrude Burt, Clement Bogaczyk, Edmund and William Bogaczyk as well as other family sisters and brothers. In addition, she is survived by her "extended family" from the Copley Street neighborhood who were very supportive of her throughout her life. They include the Malanoski, Mortensen, Hess and Van Dusen families. There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a simple gathering at the graveside on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Jerusalem Hill. EDMUND JOHN
BOGART age 75 of Elmira Heights, NY passed away on Monday March 2, 2015
at Robert Packer Hospital. John was born June 6, 1939 in Elmira, NY the son
of the late Edmund James Bogart and Mary Augustus Brewster Bogart. He was a
Veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country from 1957-1961. John married
his wife, Delores E. Harding Bogart on July 25, 1959 and she predeceased him
on August 6, 2013 after 54 years of marriage. He was also predeceased by his
sister, Betty Ann Bogart Raabe on February 12, 2014. John was a retired
store manager for The Ann Page Grocery Store in Ithaca, NY and also served
as store manager in Towanda, PA. John loved his home and spent countless
hours in his garden. He was a life-long resident of Elmira Heights and
continued to live in the house he grew up in as a child. John is survived by
his daughter, Deborah Bogart and Chris Baca of Freeville, NY; son: James
Bogart and Brandie Follett Bogart and their daughter Marley Paige Bogart of
Coupeville, Washington; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ralph Raabe of
Dundee, NY, Gloria & Dennis Sargent of Raleigh, NC, Marda (Mrs. Philip)
McElhaney of Horseheads, NY, Martin & Barbara Harding of Gillett, PA;
several nieces, nephews, cousins, and host of caring friends including his
best friends Pete & Pat Alban of Loveland, Colorado . Relatives and friends
are invited to call at the Lynch Funeral Home, 318 W. Broad St., Horseheads,
NY on Friday March 6, 2015 from 10-11 AM. John's Funeral Services will be
held at the conclusion of calling hours. Internment will take place in
Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Elmira, NY in the Spring where Full Military
Honors will be accorded Mr. Bogart. The family will provide their own

BOHLAYER Brian R. A loving husband and father died on Tuesday, July 19,
2005 at his Erie St. home in Elmira. Brian was born on August 19, 1976 in
Elmira. He had many interest including hunting and fishing. He was always
willing to lend a helping hand and would do anything for his family and many
friends. He would always strive to be a positive example on those whose lives
he touched. Surviving is his loving wife of three years and friend of eight
years, Terri Bohlayer (Storms) and their children, Brianna and Brian Jr. also a
daughter, Hailey Born; Brian's mother, Susan Eastwood (Bill Demember) his
father, Richard V. Bohlayer; his brothers, Paul and Brett Bohlayer; Brian was
very close to his paternal grandparents, Rose Mary & Carl Mattison; his
in-laws, JoAnn & Donald Storms; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews
and loving friends especially David Cook. Family and friends will be received
at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Saturday,
July 23, 2005 between the hours of 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will follow the

Vera (Bookmiller) Local Waitress for over 55 years Age 75 of Villa Serene,
Elmira Heights and formerly a long-time resident of Grand Central Ave., on
Wednesday, August 2, 2000 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She is
survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Watts and Michael Knapp of
Elmira, NY and Lynda and Jim Willis of Elmira Heights, NY; grandchildren, Tina
(Mark) Clinton of W. Newton, MA, Julie Willis of Roswell, GA, Jason Willis of
Norcross, GA, Jaimee Willis and Jessica Willis, both of Elmira Heights,
NY; step-grandchildren, Jeremy Knapp of New Paltz, NY and Christopher Knapp of
Elmira, NY; former husband, Ed Semski of Hudson, FL and a host of many close
and caring relatives, friends and co-workers. Vera was also predeceased by
her grandparents, Edward and Grace Cady; parents, Ray and Helen
Bookmiller; aunts and uncle, Hazel Switzer and Frank and Tiny Cady. Vera was an
avid Bingo player and Euchre player with the Tuesday Grotto Club. She was also
an avid baseball fan. Vera was local waitress for over 55 years until she
reached the age of 73. She had worked at the Hickory House, the cafeteria at
Courtyards at Bethany Village and most recently at Curly's Chicken House.
Friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 So. Main St.,
Horseheads, NY, today, Friday, August 4, 2000 from 4-5:30 p.m. Her funeral will
take place there at the conclusion of calling hours at 5:30 p.m.

EDWIN BOOP, JR., age 56, died very unexpectedly on Sunday, July 3, 2005. He is survived by his loving companion, Debbie Boop of Erin, NY; daughters, Tammy Phillips; Chrissy (Cliff) Campbell; and Brenda (Thomas) Decker, all of Elmira, NY; brother, Daniel Boop of Mansfield, PA; sister, Janice Kool of Altoona, PA; several grandchildren and nieces and nephews; and his two best friends, Norman Niles and Ed Lenhardt. BORRA - CADY, Rose
Age 88, of Elmira, NY, died on Monday, June 7, 2010, at the Chemung County
Nursing Facility. She was born on January 28, 1922 in Montour Falls, NY to the
late Amato and Augusta (Benallie) Borra. Rose was predeceased by her husbands,
Archie R. Shores and Ira Cady; son, Richard Shores; and brother, Louie Borra.
Survivors include her son, Donald (Sandra) Shores of Wellsburg; daughters,
Elaine Wilson of Elmira and Sandra (Richard) Yentzer of North Wilkesborro, NC;
brother, Tony Borra; sister, Mary Randolph; 15 grandchildren, several
great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren along with several nieces
and nephews. Rose loved family gatherings and was an avid Scat player. Family
and friends are invited to call on Thursday, June 10th, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the
James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place there on

BOUGHTON -PHYLLIS G. ALLEN, age 60, of 369A E. Thurston St., Elmira, NY, died Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at home after a brief illness. She was predeceased by mother, Mildred E. Boughton Grace in 1973; and is survived by her husband, Marcus L. Allen, Jr.; brother, Michael L. Boughton of Raleigh, NC, with his children, Michael, Jr. (Denise), Mark (Dawn) and Vickie (Dan) Chapman; family close to her heart, Denise and Frederick (Bud) Hepfner of Elmira with their children, Adrianne and Nicole; several cousins including cousin and special friend, Virginia (Harry) Simpson of Corning; special friend, Constance Bulow of Elmira; long time friends, Freeman (Ike) and Marion Edkin and family. Phyllis was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Catharine, NY, and Women of the Moose, Elmira. She was formerly employed with Artistic Greetings and Trayer Products. She attended Northeast Technical School and proudly earned her CDL license which she then utilized with her husband driving tractor-trailers until her illness forced her to stop. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira, on Friday, November 14th, from 4 to 8 p.m. Her funeral service will be held there on Saturday, November 15th, at 10 a.m. Rev. BOWEN - SQUIRES Dorothy
Age 95, formerly of Elmira, died Monday, February 16, in Bradenton, FL. She was
predeceased by her husband of 76 years, Ervin Squires; parents, Ivan and Vergie
Harned Bowen; brother, Carl Bowen; and sister, Ruth Wilcox. She is survived by
daughters, Barbara (Skip) Mills of Elmira, NY, Beverly (Michael) Lopes of
Spring Hill, FL; son, Donald (Carmen) of Boston, MA; nine grandchildren, 12
great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She worked in her
husband's Nationwide Insurance Co. office in Elmira for 35 years and was an
active member of Central Christian Church. A memorial service will be held at
Central Christian Church, March 14. Internment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Those who wish may make a donation in her memory to the American Heart
Association.

her husband Earnest R. Coon. Born In Corning, NY she is predeceased by her
parents Francis and Nelly Bowers. She is survived by two children a son,
David Coon and a daughter, Theresa Coon a granddaughter Shannon Porter and a
great granddaughter Gracie Porter. A gathering will be held on Wed., October

Age 88 of Elmira, NY. She was born November 3, 1923 in Williamsport, PA, daughter of the late Alfred and Marie (Diebert) Bowers and died Thursday, October 4, 2012 at home under the care of CareFirst (Southern Tier Hospice). She was predeceased by her husband Carl E. Morrison, Sr. in 1993 and is survived by her children and their spouses Mary and Bernie Dailey, Theresa and Robert Dailey, Susan Ryan, Marie and Jessie Hoffman, Carl Morrison, Franklin and Linda Morrison, Francis Morrison; brother William Bowers of Williamsport, PA; sister Carolyn Lohman of Mississippi along with 22 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. BOWES ANNABELLE SEMSKI
Age 85, of Elmira, was reunited with her loved ones in heaven on July 29, 2007.
She died at home surrounded by her loving family. Annabelle was a daughter of William
and Hannah Boone Bowes. She was predeceased by her husband Donald J. Semski and
son James Semski. Annabelle is survived by four daughters that she dearly
loved, with their families; Sharon S. and Arthur Schoen, Sr. of Liverpool NY
with Kathleen, Richard and Kellene Ray, Michelle and Mark Manes; Mary Ellen and
Harold Smith of Horseheads with Timothy and Michelle May and Christopher Smith;
Charlene A. and Martin Runyan of Elmira with Kristen and Kathryn Runyan; Terri
A. and Rafaat Kureshi of Brentwood TN with Alia and Amir Kureshi; great
grandchildren, Phoenix Boisnier, Benjamin Ray, Heidi Manes, and Izzabella
Muller; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Florence Bowes of Elmira. Also
surviving are several nieces, nephews and several close friends. Annabelle was
a very devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her
life revolved around her family and taking care of them. Annabelle's greatest
joys were time spent with her loved ones taking rides in the car searching for
deer, bird watching, and enjoying an ice cream treat. She loved her yard and
planting her flowers. Annabelle was well known for her rummage sales and she
loved taking an old piece of furniture and making it look like new. Annabelle
and Don were married for 61 years. Don was the outgoing one, but after he died,
Annabelle's family found out that she had a lot to say. She will be remembered
for her courage and strength when facing her declining health over the years.
Her fierce spirit has been an inspiration to all her family and her keen sense
of humor carried her through to the very end. She will be missed greatly and
will be in the hearts of her family forever. Friends are invited to McInerny

Age 75 of Elmira, NY, formerly of Leighton, PA, went to be with the angels on
Monday, October 12th, 2009 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. She was
predeceased by her parents, Arthur R. Bowman and Almyra (Jones) Bowman Flexer;
her first husband, Lester Keck in 1976; second husband, John E. McGowan in
1995; daughter-in-law, Karen Bailey Keck (1992) and one great grandson, Austin
Motola in 2007. She is survived by sisters, Lonnie, Candy, and Lynn all of PA;
as well as two daughters, Karen (Jack) Robbins of Chemung, and Christine
(Richard) Cole of Cameron Mills; and two sons, Robert (Rebecca) Keck, and John
(Kelly) McGowan both of Elmira, NY. Gail is also survived by her grandchildren,
Kelly Fisher, Jay Motola, Jessica Hunt, Kendra Keck, Erinne Short, Amber Kelly,
Matthew McGowan, and Mitchell McGowan, as well as 8 great grandchildren. Gail
worked several years for the Painted Post School District in the Custodial

Robinson, Etta V Boyce- 86 of 107 South Ave, Elmira, died Tuesday August 19,
1980 at St Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira. Born in Granville Center July 21,
1894 she was the daughter of Fred and Nora Brown Boyce. She was a member
of the Faith Tabernacle of Elmira Heights, NY. Mrs. Robinson was the wife of
the late James W Robinson who died in April of 1978. She is survived by a
daughter of Mrs. Haldine (Thelma) Freeman of Canton; sons, Frederick, LaVerne,
Malcolm (Jim) and Harold, all of Elmira; Clifton of Wellsburg, NY and
Ellsworth of Horseheads, NY; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; a brother Shirley Boyce of Canton; sister Mrs. Helen
Peters of Troy. Friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Elmira
Thursday 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 pm with funeral and committal services Friday

EMERSON E. BRANNAKA, 84, died June 25, 2002 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility after an extended illness. Born April 7, 1918, he was the son of John and Nora Campbell Brannaka, Troy. He was a member of the Elmira Beagle Club and a past Boy Scout leader. Mr. Brannaka is predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Rosemary in August 2001 and by his son, Thomas in 1990 as well as his sisters, Donna and Mertie. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, John (Janice) Brannaka, Lowman; his son, Joseph Brannaka, Elmira, NY; and his daughter and son-in-law, Martha (Val) Gray, Elmira; several nieces and nephews; his brothers, Charles Brannaka, Elwin Brannaka, both of Florida; John Brannaka of Texas; sister, Nora June Bailey, Towanda; sister, Nora June Bailey, Towanda; sister-in-law, Theresa Qualls, Painted Post, NY; brother-in-law, John Toti, Las Vegas. –CATHERINE E. ‘CATHY’ DEAN, 80, of Elmira, NY passed away on Sunday, May 28,
2017. Cathy was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Lou Breese; her parents,
Lawrence and Francis Breese and her grandson, Brandon Varlon. Cathy is
survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Leon A. Dean, Sr.; children,
Cheryl Dean, Bonnie (Ted) Bellinger, Leon (Bobbie) Dean Jr., Larry (Maryann)
Dean and Richard Dean; 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Cathy
was a 1955 graduate of Southside High School and also on the Alumni
committee of 1955. She was a secretary for Lakes Street Presbyterian for
many years. Cathy was a member of Daughter of the Nile and DAR. She played
in a card league on Tuesdays for Southport seniors. Cathy loved spending
time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful
wife, mother and friend who will be dearly missed. Calling hours will be
held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. with a funeral service
to follow immediately at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue,

BREESE –VIRGINIA E. NICKERSON a longtime resident of the Elmira community passed away, Sun. July 29, 2018 at Arnot-Ogden Medical Center following declining health at the age of 87. Born on Apr. 7, 1931 in Hornell, NY; Virginia was the daughter of the late, Noah & Vina Jessup Breese. She married John S. Nickerson and they celebrated 61 years together until his passing in 2014. Surviving are her beloved daughters, Susan M. Nickerson, Diane E. (John) Russell and Sandra A. (Gordy) Manchester; adored grandchildren, Christopher E. and John P. Russell; Alyssa J. (C. Adam) Johnson and Amber M. Manchester; two great grandchildren, Calli Mae Manchester and C. Aiden Johnson. A homemaker, Virginia was an avid bowler at Rossi Lanes. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. BREWER Dana D., Sr. Age 81, of Elmira Heights, NY, died Thursday, September 1, 2005, with his loving family by his side. Dana was born in Elkland, Pennsylvania, son of the late Frank and Sarah (Mosher) Brewer. Dana served in the United States Army during WWII and retired from Kennedy Valve after 39 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Della J. (McNeil) of 58 years; daughter, Sharon (Melvin) Cicci of Elmira Heights, NY, Patricia (Tom) Greven of Corning, NY, Bonnie Brewer of Athens, NY, Nancy (Dale) Bailey of Elmira Heights, NY, Robin (Robert) Keyser of Alabama; sons, Dana Brewer Jr. of Syracuse, NY, Randy Brewer Sr. of Elmira Heights; brothers, Vernon (Wilimae) Brewer of Texas and Ronald Brewer of Millerton, PA; sisters, Selma Randolph of Elmira, NY, Beverly (John) Stanley of Elmira and Bernice Heatherton of Georgia; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; 25 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. RICHARD G. BREWER age 77 of Troy, PA died April 8, 1997 at home. He was born in Elmira, NY on December 2, 1919 the son of Frederick and Pearl Brewer. For many years he was the owner and proprietor of Brewers Mens & Boys Shop in Troy, PA. He served in the US Army during World War II in the Pacific and received the Bronze Star. On August 2, 1941 he was married to the former LaVerna Baker and for 56 years they have lived in Elmira, NY, Sylvania, PA and Troy, PA. He is survived by his wife of 56 years LaVerna Brewer of Troy, PA; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and JoAnn Brewer of Bristol, VT, Roger and Carol Brewer of Thousand Oakes, CA, Jeff and Brenda Brewer of troy, PA, Barry and Nancy Brewer of Troy, PA, Steven Brewer of Seminole, FL; 11 grandchildren, Kim, Michael, and Shawna, Kevin and Kathi, Joy, Jason, Lisa and Tom Kuscan, Tracy, Ryan, Casie, Annie and Caylin; brother and sister-in-law, Harland and Harriett Brewer of Troy, PA; several nieces and nephews. BRICKA Albert H.
Age 83, of 376 Lattabrook Rd., Horseheads, NY. He was born February 27, 1924 in
Versails, IN, son of the late Irl and Grace (Sproessig) Bricka and died
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center after a brief
illness. He was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Gulley and Marjorie
Willman; and is survived by his wife of 62 years, Arlie; children, Jack Bricka
and Carol Collins of TX, Albert (Lorraine) Bricka of Elmira, Constance (John)
Mathews of Syracuse, and Dale Bricka of Horseheads; seven grandchildren, 15
great-grandchildren; sister, Betty (Denzel) Byram of Indianapolis, IN; along
with several nieces and nephews. Albert retired from Hardinge Bros. in 1981. He
was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII; was a member of the Chemung
County Coon Hunters Assoc.; an avid hunter and fisherman; and formerly a stock
car racer at the Chemung Speedrome. Family and friends are invited to visit

Saturday, February 2nd, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. His funeral service will be

Barbara A. Briggs Age 54 of Antioch, TN formerly of Horseheads, NY died on
Saturday July 23, 2005. Barbara was born December 27, 1950 in Buffalo, NY the
daughter of the late Ernest R. and Belle M. Everitt Briggs. She was a graduate
of Horseheads High School and SUNY Cortland. Barbara loved her family, friends,
and dogs and cherished the time she spent with them. She is survived by her
sister: Barbara Nugent of Elmira Heights, NY; brothers and sisters-in-law:
Robert & Patricia Briggs of Elmira, NY and James & Jennifer Briggs of
Tallahassee, Florida; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a
host of caring friends including her special friend Bill. There will be no

Age 76 of Elmira, NY died on Thursday, August 28, 2008, at St. Joseph's
Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Son of the late Robert L Sr. and
Charlotte Brimmer. Predeceased by brother and niece, William and Carol Jean
Brimmer. Survived by loving sister and brother-in-law Donna and Dan McGrain of

of Pine City, NY Sharon and John Jackson of Wrentham, MA, Barb and Bruce

Wellsburg, NY. He was like a grandfather to his great nieces and nephews,
Zachary and Bryce Akins, Alex and Lacey Aumick, Nicholas and Isabella Troutt,
many other great nieces and nephews. A graduate of Southside High School. He
was a member of The Elmira Moose Club, Elmira Eagles Club, and Stachue Club,
Member of the United Methodist Church. Robert was a Bowling and Billiard
Champion, also a Little League Baseball Coach and YMCA Basketball Coach. Avid
Baltimore Orioles Fan and personal friend of Earl Weaver. Worked at Artistic
Card Company, retired from the A&P Plant, and worked at Burn's
International Security. He was a very close friend to many of the residents at

BRISTOL age 95 of Edisto Island, SC, passed away on Thursday July 23,
2015. Howard was born in Troy, PA on March 9, 1920 the son of the late Leon
and Rossa (VanNoy) Bristol. He is survived by three sons, several
grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Howard was an avid
college basketball fan, a licensed guide for the New York State Parks
Department, and the former owner of the Falvey Hotel in Redfield, NY. It was

Leon E. “Brownie” BROWN, 81, of Erin, NY died Saturday, January 9, 1999 at the VA Medical Center in Bath, NY. Mr. Brown was a US Air Force veteran of WWII where he served as a tail gunner until his discharge in 1946. He was a member of Glad Tidings Christian Life Church in Horseheads, NY. BROWN Mary Jane Brown
Age 88 of Elmira Heights, NY died on Saturday June 30, 2012. Mary Jane was born January 3, 1924 in Dunkirk, NY the daughter of the late Ethelbert and Carrie Altman Brown. The family moved to Elmira Heights, NY in the 1930's. She graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in 1944 and also served on The Alumni Committee for The Class of 1944. Mary Jane was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church in Elmira Heights, NY for over eighty years and served her church as the church's organist for over 60 years. She was a member of The American Organists' Guild, The United Methodist Women, The Red Hat Society, and The Mark Twain Huckleberries. She was an employee of Marine Midland Bank whose career was spent at the Main Branch in Elmira and Mary Jane retired from The Elmira Heights Branch of Marine Midland Bank. Mary Jane enjoyed gardening and needlework. She loved her family and friends and treasured the time she spent with them. In addition to her parents, Mary Jane was pre-deceased by her sister Ruth Ann Brown Fleming and by her sister and brothers-in-law: Margaret June Brown Wolfe and Carlton Wilbur Wolfe Jr. and John Knight and by her nephew Richard Wolfe. unexpectedly on Saturday, August 7th, 2010. Bob was born August 23, 1918 the
eldest of four children of the late John and Edith (Waters) Brown. He is also
predeceased by: sister and brother-in-law, Lula and Walter Dykins; brother and
sister-in-law, Jack and Margaret Brown; brother-in-law, Pearson Schiller;
daughters, Barbara Brown Loomis, Maureen Brown Hall, and Roberta Lynn Brown;
father-in-law and mother-in-law, Oliver P. and Doris (Whited) Harkness. Bob is
survived by his loving wife of many years, Shirley (Harkness) Brown; son and
daughter-in-law Robert H. and Rita (Masia) Brown; daughter, lorie Ann Brown;
sister Delores Schiller; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, VanEtten 'Jim' and
Sandra (Liddy) Harkness; sons-in-law, Bernie Loomis and Huelan Hall. Also

his family and friends and always concerned for others. He was a successful
businessman with an entrepreneurial drive having owned and operated Brown's
Rest Haven in Elmira; managed five districts for an educational firm; and, as a
Master Coordinator with Shaklee Corporation for almost 40 years. Through his
drive, spirit, and caring, Bob was a caring man who encouraged and touched the
hearts of many he came in contact with in Elmira, in Athens GA where he resided
for the last 35 years, and across the country. It was Bob's wish that there not
be any calling hours or funeral service. Bob preferred that all remember him
for who he was and to celebrate his memory with simplicity. His cremains will
be laid to rest at Forest Lawn with his parents and daughter Roberta with a

397 F&AM of Elmira; the Cashmere Grotto. He was founder of the Southern
Tier Dahlia Society; vice president of the American Dahlia Society; and member
of various other dahlia organizations having been a prominent area grower who
exhibited throughout the Eastern United States. He was owner and operator of
Brunjes Food Market for over 23 years and Brunjes Garden Store.
BRUSH - BAILEY, Edna Mae
died at St. Joseph's Apartments where she had been residing on Saturday
February 27, 2010 very unexpectedly. Born on May 19, 1937 in Avoca, NY, Edna
was the daughter of the late John Earl Calkins & Esther G. Bennett Brush.
She was married to Charles Victor Bailey in 1955 and he predeceased her in
1982. Edna was employed for over 20 years at the Red Jacket Restaurant.
Dedicated to her loving family she enjoyed being a mother to her six children,
Elaine (Jeffrey) Schmoel, John (Julie) Bailey, Earl (Rhonda) Bailey, Michael
(Charlene) Bailey, Victoria (Bill) Covert and her beloved Karen Keck who
predeceased her. Also surviving is her sister, Onalee Clark; daughter -in-law,
Mary Ann Bailey; sons-in-law, Bob Keck and Karl Harbot; along with

Age 70 of Erin, NY went home to his Heavenly Father on Monday December 15, 2008
surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Bryan was pre-deceased by his parents John
and Catherine Bryan, his sister Mary, and his brother Martin. John is survived
by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years Esther who has long since been his
eyes, ears, mouth, hands, and feet. He is also survived by his beloved children
Brenda, Anita, Jonathan, granddaughter Kaitlynn along with brothers and sisters
Virginia, Jimmy, Paul, Katie, Lizzie, Daniel, Ruthie, and several nieces,
nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. Having led a full life,
retiring after 33 years with Kennedy Valve in Elmira, NY, he was known to his
fellow co-workers as Big John, to his wife and family, he was Johnny and to his
kids, no matter how old they become, he will forever be Daddy. His true pride
and pastime was his gift for woodworking. The family was blessed to have found
long-lasting relationships by attending Elmira Christian Center for 22 years,
Central Assembly of God Church, and finally Faith Tabernacle Church where he
found a special kinship with Pastor Dave Swartwood, who became not only his

Age 85, of Elmira Heights, NY, went to be with his beloved wife on Saturday,
August 2, 2008. Clair was born on July 23, 1923 in Caton, NY, to the late
Ransford and Alice (Boyd) Buchanan. Clair served our country in the United

Age 69, of Red Chalk Rd., Erin, died after a brief illness at home surrounded
by his family on Mon., Sept. 20, 2010. Dutch was born May 3, 1941 in Corning,
NY, a son to the late Gladys and James Buchanan. He is survived by his
children, James (Karen) Buchanan of Erin, NY, Kim Buchanan and Stephen Bahantka
of Erin, NY, Thomas (Michelle) Buchanan, also of Erin, NY; grandchildren,
Ashley, Amy, and Arica Buchanan, Amber Bahantka, Amanda, C.J., and Mya
Buchanan; great-granddaughter, Aidyn Bahantka. Also survived by companion,
Susan Edger; previous wife, Sylvia (David) Starkweather and her family,
including Edith Walton and Sandra Howe; several nieces and nephews; dedicated
canine friend, Balto; and longtime family friends, Jon Drake and John Ribovich.
In addition to his parents, Dutch was also predeceased by his sister and
brothers: James "Bucky" Buchanan, Marion "Peg" (William)
Buchanan, Michael (Cleone) Buchanan, Leon Buchanan, Frank Buchanan; and a very
special longtime friend, Joe Waite. Dutch was a lifelong plumber owning
Buchanan Plumbing & Heating. Dutch retired from his plumbing business to
raise cattle on his farm and run his vending company. He took pride in being an
honest, hard working business owner his entire life. Dutch was a friend to many
people, and was always there to lend a hand to someone in need. He loved to
spend time with his family, took pride in his farm, enjoyed hunting, and loved
weekend visits for coffee with his children and grandchildren. He was a great
dad and wonderful grandfather. Everyone who knew him loved him. Family and

Age 63 of Horseheads, NY died on Wednesday April 9, 2008 at St. Joseph's
Hospital. Carl was born September 27, 1944 in Elk Lake, Pennsylvania the son of
the late Thomas and Ruth Baker Burns. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving his
country from 1971-1979 during The Vietnam War and was a member of The Clarence
R. Oliver American Legion Post #154 in Elmira Heights, NY. Carl was also a
member of The Horseheads Moose. He enjoyed collecting pigs and designing on his
computer. Carl owned Com Sew commercial sewing company for several years. He
loved his family and friends and treasured every moment he spent with them.

Ruthie was born on March 19, 1933 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Edwin
Robert Jaynes and Ruth Genevieve Baker Burns. She married her husband, Robert
F. Cooper Sr., on June 20, 1953 and he pre-deceased her on May 15, 1997. Ruth
was also pre-deceased by her son Robert F. Cooper Jr. on December 6, 2004, her
grandson Peter Knapp, her son-in-law Russell Duane Hurlbutt, and by her
brothers Edwin Burns and Carl Burns. Mrs. Cooper was a loving wife, mother, and

age 97 of Elmira, passed away Sat. Aug 12, 2017 at Chemung County Nursing
Facility following declining health at the age of 87. Born on May 9, 1930 in
Elmira, Bernice was the daughter of the late John & Emma Lindsey Bush.
Bernice was employed for many years by C&K Laundry and she also sold AVON.
Bernice also volunteered at ELCOR. Never having had her own children, she
loved being a caregiver for children. Surviving are her loving sisters,
Phyllis Snyder, Elmira; Helen Shaffer, Elmira; Irene Connolly, Colorado; a
brother, Thomas Bush, Elmira; many nieces and nephews, special neighbors,
the "Gordons" and the "Bentons". In addition to her parents Bernice was
predeceased by a sister, Shirley Ludy; and brothers, Edward, Donald, Ted,

A lifelong resident of Elmira died unexpectedly Friday, September 24, 2010
following a brief illness at the age of 75. Born on June 12, 1935 in Elmira,

by Pierces 1894 Restaurant for nearly 20 years and very much appreciated and
enjoyed his job. James was an avid sports fan and spent countless hours

Shirley retired from Elcor Health Services in Horseheads after many years of service as a nurse's aide. Shirley was a past Auxiliary President of the American Legion Post #154 in Elmira Heights, NY, past matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Southport, NY and a lifetime member of the Eastern Star in Breesport NY. Shirley is survived by her daughters, SuEllen (Richard) Harland of Plattsburg, NY and Sandra (Edward) Savage of Ogdensburg, NY; 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Barbara Nelson of SC; Shirley was predeceased by her husband, James in 1978 and son, Terry. Family and friends are invited to call Monday, March 18, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m., at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
