Ensign J. W. A. Brown of the U.S. Naval Air Station, Montauk, L.I., is the son of Ruth Adams Brown, and a nephew of Mrs. J. E. Williamson of this boro;  he is well known here as he spent much time here while a boy.  His work in the service has been to act as observer in a balloon convoying transports, and acting as radio operator in dirigibles, traveling about 8,000 feet above, and the work was very strenuous.  He has written a manual on aviation.  He graduated from the Institute of Technology at Cambridge, Mass., and enlisted in October, 1917, in Pittsburgh.  He also graduated from Indiana Normal.  His training made him a valuable man in this branch of the service as he was well prepared to take up the work.  He was married last February to Miss Helen Connelly, of Boston.
