Last Wednesday an elegantly appointed and largely attended wedding occurred

youngest daughter, Carrie, to George Gershom Dorrance, of Elkland. The
spacious old mansion, which has long been a prominent landmark in the Cowanesque
valley, was more than comfortably, filled by nearly 125 guests who responded in
person to the invitations, besides which a large number of regrets were
received. The ceremony was performed at 12:30, by Rev. J. O. Jarman,
pastor of the Osceola Methodist Church. The bridal couple were preceded to
the appointed place by two maids of honor, Miss Gertrude Freeborn, of Knoxville,
and Clara Lewis, of Osceola. Immediately after the ceremony a basket of
beautiful flowers was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Dorrance by Anna, the four year
old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tubbs. General congratulations
followed, after which an elaborate wedding dinner was served under the direction
of Miss Betty Murray, of Wellsboro, which could hardly have been surpassed by
Delmonico himself. The presents were numerous and beautiful and many of
them costly. Besides representatives of nearly all the prominent families
of the Cowanesque valley, there were among the guests people from Wellsboro,
Elmira and Canandaigua, NY, North Dakota and other places. The bride and
groom belong to two of the oldest and best-known families in the Cowanesque
region, and hundreds of friends and acquaintances rejoice in the auspicious
union. Mr. and Mrs. Dorrance left on the afternoon train for a brief
wedding trip to New York city and other points. Their departure was the

Pollock-Gregory
Antrim, July 3, 1890.--No two young persons have been better or more
favorable known here than Mr. Alexander W. Pollock and Miss Mary E. Gregory.
Mr. Pollock, now of Troy, has always made his home here with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. James Pollock, and Miss Gregory has for some time held a warm place in
the hearts of our people as the efficient Principal of our schools. But we
were not destined long to retain them. They had notions of their own, and
yesterday they proceeded to have them carried into effect. A very large
company of friends from Wellsboro, Blossburg, Nauvoo, Morris and the surrounding
country, uniting with a large number of our own citizens, met at the residence
of Superintendent Pollock, where, precisely at the hour of noon, Rev. Dr. T. G.
Jones, proceeded to convert the young people’s “notions” into substantial facts
by uniting them in the holy bonds of matrimony. After the ceremony a
splendid dinner was served, and when I say that Miss Betty Murray, of Wellsboro,
was caterer the reader may be sure that the feast had ample justice done it by a
merry company. During the afternoon some excellent music was rendered by
lady vocalists and pianists, after which the young husband and wife took their
departure on the train for their new home at Troy, amid smiles and tears, the
waving of flags, the heart pangs of separation, the noisy “hip, hip” of the
turbulent small boy and the general congratulations and good wishes of the whole
company. Miss Gregory’s entire class of High school pupils were present,
but scarcely realized the situation until the train thundered up the back
switch, hearing away their beloved teacher, when the solemn faces, the tear
dimmed eyes and the irrepressible, long-drawn sigh of plainly spoke of its
realization. It is the prayer of the many friends the young people have
left behind that amid the cloud or sunshine of their lot they may ever be
crowned with peace. It is the desire of Mr. and Mrs. Pollock that their
thanks be tendered all who so kindly remembered them by their presence and their
many precious gifts. The young couple received a large number of presents
that were useful, valuable and beautiful, and which attested the warm esteem of
their numerous friends. (Tuesday, July 1, 1890, The Wellsboro Agitator,
