Mr. Chas. Nelson, of Albany, NY, was, on the 23d day of December last,
married to Miss Fanny Mandeville of our place. Both parties being
deaf mutes, the marriage service was written on paper and presented to
them for inspection, they signifying their replies by a nod of the head.
The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. V. Lowell, of the M. E. Church, of
this borough. A young lady from Troy, Pa., also a deaf mute, acted
as bridesmaid, and was the first to congratulate the happy pair in their

Gen. Sheridan was married on Thursday of last week to Miss Irene Rucker,
at the house of the bride’s parents in Chicago.--None but the members of
the family and the General’s comrades were in attendance. Among the
distinguished guests present were General and Mrs. Sherman, members of
Gen. Sherman’s staff and their wives, General Augur and Pope, and many
others.--The bridal presents were rich and numerous. The ceremony
was performed by Rt. Rev. Bishop Foley, assisted by Rev. P. Riordan, according
to the forms of the Catholic Church, of which both parties are members.
After the collation the bridal pair, accompanied by Colonel and Mrs. M.
T. Sheridan and Colonel and Mrs. M. C. Feeley, were driven to their residence,
which was handsomely decorated and prepared for the newly-mated pair.
The General presented his wife with a carriage and two horses, $5,000 worth
of diamonds made into a necklace and eardrops, and a pearl necklace.--Among
other presents was a $500 lace handkerchief from A. T. Stewart. (Tuesday,
