and was recommended for promotion by Gen. Banks and Gen. Geary for gallant

received a wound, supposed to be mortal, at Cedar Mountain, and not being
able to march at Chancelorville, procured a horse and led his company in
that fight, during which he disarmed and captured a rebel officer with
