Hi Joyce,
I'm enjoying your site.
My maternal grandparents, Louis Dennis Livermore and Phoebe Elizabeth Winstro), managed the Morris Hotel (formerly Black's Hotel) in the late 1910s and early 1920s. My mom (still alive at 91 though suffering from Alzheimer's) remembered fondly the men living in the hotel.
The hotel is pictured in an ad in the Tioga County Directory (1908) listed on your web site. Her bedroom was on the second floor, left corner. I took her back to Morris about five years ago and she was able to tour the upper floor of the hotel but because of alterations, she didn't recognize her room as the way she remembered it.
The family moved to Genesee, PA, after living in Morris.
Louis Livermore, b. 13 Jan. 1878, South Lima, NY; d. 16 Jan. 1940, Wellsville, NY, buried in Holland, MI. He's the son of Edmund Albert Livermore, b. 23 Aug. 1846, Springwater, NY; d. 28 Jan. 1920, South Lima, NY, buried in Genesee, PA.
On 4 Jan. 1871, Edmund married Ellen Ardella Bronson, the daughter of Gordon S. Bronson and Grace Webb.
These Livermores connect with Walter Eliot Thwing, "Livermore Family of America," (1902) this way: Edmund Albert Livermore's father was Ralph Earskine (R.E.) Livermore, b. 29 Feb. 1803, Chesterfield, MA; d. 12 May 1882, South Lima, NY. R.E.'s father was Solomon Livermore, b. 21 Feb. 1762, Lister, MA; d. 2 Jan. 1844, Springwater, NY. Solomon's father was Nathan Livermore, b. 22 May 1727, Weston MA, and is listed in Thwing on page 18.
Nathan, Solomon, and Earskine (no Ralph) are also listed in "History and Genealogy of the Families of Chesterfield, MA, 1762-1962."
Phoebe WINSTROM Livermore, b. 13 Jul. 1885, d. 28 May 1928, married Louis Livermore in 1901. My mother Norma Caroline Livermore, b. 18 Jul. 1910, Galeton, PA, is their only child.
Phoebe's parents are listed on your web site in the Morris Township section of the Tioga County Directory 1908. Her father was Peter John Winstrom, b. 2 April 1860, Upsula, Sweden; d. 20 Dec. 1927, buried in Holland, MI. His wife was Johanna August (Nellie) Anderson, b. 5 Feb. 1865, Dorslim, Sweden; d. 10 Jan. 1949, buried in Holland, MI. They had 13 living children of which my grandmother, Phoebe, was the oldest.
Thanks for all your work on behalf of our ancestors who lived in your corner of Pennsylvania.
Keith Van Hoff
