1901-1904 Robinson Reunion Notes
The following are the meeting notes of the Robinson Family Reunions held in the years 1901-1904. I believe they were copied and typed originally by Mrs. Abigail Barnes. I found and corrected a few typing errors but could not catch them all. The only thing I have added is an attempt to identify who the various attendees’ were. These notes were given to me by my mother, "Madeline SQUIRES Isham", a descendent of Elvira M. Robinson, the daughter James E. and Mary Ette BARBER Robinson.

ROBINSON REUNION RECORDS – (COPY)

FIRST REUNION MEETING - Oct. 3, 1901

A large number of the descendants of Dan and Betsy Robinson, together with relatives and friends, met at the home of A. W. Marshall, South Hill.

The day dawned bright and beautiful excepting a slight chill in the air. At an early hour relatives began to gather. A stranger would naturally have thought that a Camp-Meeting was being held in the place or a circus was in town, from the number of teams seen hustling along different roads.

The forenoon was pleasantly passed in greeting friends, quoits pitching, etc. While in the house were willing hands at work unloading the well filled baskets and placing their contents on the table.

As the dinner bell rang, the game of ringers that had held the close attention of the men so long, seemed to lose its charm and a grand rush was made for the house. The next hour proved the most busy one of the day, as 126 took part in helping devour the abundant supply of goodies prepared for the occasion.

Dinner being over the business meeting was called to order by the host A. W. Marshall. It was decided by a unanimous vote to hold a reunion annually. The following officers were chosen for the ensuing year:

President - A. L. Robinson

V. Pres. - H. C. Allis

Secretary - E. J. Barnes

An invitation was given by Mr. & Mrs. Leander Robinson to meet at their home in Hornbrook for the next meeting which was accepted. Date of next meeting Aug. 21st, 1902.

Miss Theda Blair kindly favored us with a recitation which was appreciated by all. Prayer was offered by Rev. D. H. Gridley. The remaining few hours was spent in social chat and music. Then the evening shadows began to gather which denoted the close of another day, it recalled the minds of each to their own home duties after all united in singing, "When the Roll Is Called up Yonder". Good byes were said and the company began to disperse wending their way to their respective homes

SECOUND ANNUAL REUNION MEETING - August 21st, 1902

After a refreshing shower in the early morning the day bidding fair, soon a large number of the descendants of Dan and Betsy Robinson were seen taking the various roads leading to Hornbrook. Some going by the beautiful and picturesque, Lake Wesauking, surrounded by its numerous cottages and commodious Hotel. Others, taking the river road leading through Breakneck narrows, where but little more than a century ago the red man could look down on the early white settlers and make his blood curdle with his savage war whoop.

And where in 1779, Gen. Sullivan halted with his army on the left bank of the river on his expedition against Tories and Indians. All arriving in due time at the home of Leander Robinson where all were received with a warm welcome and at once made to feel at home. A general visit with introductions prevailed for a time. Dinner time having arrived, 107 sat down to the table and did justice to a bounteous repast.

The feast being ended, President A. L Robinson called the reunion together for a program and business exercises. The program was opened by singing "Blest be the tie that Binds", Prayer by Rev. L. P. Howard, singing "Rock of Ages", Recitation by Addie Allen, Recitation by Ray Marshall, and Solo by Mrs. Grace Allis. Joyce Tip Box -- December 2007 -
If you are not navigating this Tri-Counties Site via the left and right sidebars of the Current What's New page you are doing yourself a disservice. You can get to any place on the site easily by making yourself familiar with these subject and place topics. Try them all to be as familiar with the site's 16,000 plus pages as you can. Stop groping in the dark and take the lighted path. That's also the only way you'll find the search engines for the site or have access to the necessary messages I may leave for you. Make it easy on yourself.
