2. DANIEL2 O'SULLIVAN (O'SULLIVAN1) was born 1812 in County Kerry, Ireland4, and died March 20, 1899 in Overshot, PA. He married HANNORAH TERESA CURRAN Abt. 1843 in PA, daughter of DANIEL CURRAN and BRIDGET? DUNGAN/DUGGAN. She was born Abt. 1828 in Ireland5, and died September 04, 1906 in Towanda, PA6.
Notes for DANIEL O'SULLIVAN:
Two of Daniel's sisters also came to America and settled in Towanda. One being Mary O'Sullivan and the other being Margaret O'Sullivan Egan Kingston.
LDS has a Daniel O'Sullivan b 1812 in Kenmare, Kerry, Ireland.
Ó Suileabhain - (O) Sullivan - Co Kerry - the Eoghanacht - O'Sullivan Mor of Kenmare Bay
(The following was in Margaret O'Sullivan Clancy's obit; Towanda Daily Review; 6/29/1954)
"Mrs. Clancy was born in Overshot, Towanda Township, the daughter of Daniel and Hanora Curran O'Sullivan. Both of her parents were natives of Ireland, her father coming here as a carpenter to work on the old canal. He liked the country, decided to remain in this area, and after buying a farm sent for Hanora Curran who came over from Ireland and married him."
As Daniel was born in County Kerry this suggests that Hanora was also from the same region.
As their first child was born in PA in August 1844 we assume that they were married in late 1843 and that Hanora probably immigrated in the same year.

Regroup:
Working theory is that Daniel Curran and 1st wife Bridget Dungan, and their 4 children John, Hannora, Mary Ann and Thomas immigrated from Ireland. Bridget "went to Canada" and Daniel remarried Sarah. Hannora married Daniel O'Sullivan; John married Ann Valille; Thomas married Joanna O'Keefe and Mary Ann m? and could be the Ann M. found in the home of John Means in the Towanda 1850 census. Ship records, Daniel's Will, marriage or other records needed to confirm family group.

Notes for MARGARET O'SULLIVAN:
The 1860 Towanda Borough Census finds Margaret with her second husband, "Sam" Kingston. Sam was 28 at the time, a laborer born in Ireland. Margaret's age is 38 and she also was born in Ireland. Mary, her then 14 year old daughter from her first marriage to Egan, is listed as a Kingston. We do not know if she was in fact adopted by Kingston.
Also residing at the Kingston house at that time (1860) was Mary Sullivan, age 40, a domestic born in Ireland and Michael Sullivan, age 60, a laborer born in Ireland. Mary is no doubt her sister. Do not know if Michael is related.

Notes for THOMAS F. CLANCY:
Thomas spent his working life employed by the Susquehanna and NY RR. He started work on the railroad on August 10, 1903, shortly after the S&NY took over the old Barclay system. He went to work as a carpenter and eventually became the foreman of the carpenter gang. It was the work of the carpenter gang to build stations, trestles, bridges, water tanks, etc. Tom Clancy had a part in in erecting much of this type of structure. Before being employed by the railroad Tom Clancy worked in the old Toy factory in North Towanda. His grandson, John Andrew Clancy, recalls spending time in Tom's personal workshop/garage, which was located behind their Huston St. home, and enjoying the many wood working tools and the smell of lumber. It is interesting that Tom's grandfather, Michael Clancy, was involved, as a stone cutter, in the construction of the North Branch canal which was adjacent to the Susquehanna river (water source for the canal and its mule pulled barges). The railroad that Tom Clancy worked on more or less followed the course of the old canal.
Census - 1900
The family resided in a rented house on Kingsbury
Ave, 3rd Ward, Towanda, PA Thomas was 28 and had been married to Margaret

in Ireland.

The Clancys are now at their permanent home, 25 Huston St in Towanda. Thomas, 37,is a carpenter and rail head with the railroad. Margaret is 38. Robert, age 12, Walter age 10 and Arthur age 4. Census - 1920
The 3 boys, Robert now 22, Walter, 20, and Arthur age 13 are listed in the household of Thomas and Margaret. Thomas is still a carpenter with the railroad. Bob Clancy's trade is that of "electrical wiring" but the name of his employer is not readable. Walter's occupation and employer are not readable. It is not clear if Bob and Walt were in fact living with their parents. Arthur is listed as a student at St. Agnes.
The birth place for Thomas' mother is noted as PA while that of his father, Thomas Sr., is given as New York.
Note: Catherine Daugherty Clancy, Thomas Clancy Jr's mother, noted in the 1870 and 1880 censuses that she and both of her parents were born in Ireland.

Notes for MARGARET O'SULLIVAN:
So, what happened to Margaret's marriage to ? Burchill.
Margaret and her 2 children are found living with her widowed mother in
the 1920 and 1930 censuses in Towanda (Lombard St). In both censuses Margaret
is listed as Bridget O'Sullivan's dau, surname Burchill, noted as "married"
as opposed to widowed or divorced. The Catholic Church did not look favorably
on divorce so perhaps Margaret and her husband just separated. Need a marriage
record to confirm husband's first name (John?).

(All the WWI service records burned in a terrible fire in St Louis in 1973)
Robert attended the Mechanics Institute in Rochester NY. See web site: http://www.vintageviews.org/vv-r/buildings/cards/sch033.html
This school eventually became RIT.
------------------------------------------------------------
Bob graduated from St. Agnes and learned the trade of electrician at what is now known as RIT and then at the NYC Electrical School. While in New York City he earned money by acting as a chauffeur. He established the Towanda Radio Supply store on Court St. in Towanda where for many years `Stub' Lewis held down the fort repairing radios while Bob was driving about Bradford County doing electrical wiring installation and repair. All three of his sons worked with their father at times during summer school breaks or on weekends.
Though on the quiet side Bob was a kind and tender father and husband. No one in the family recalls him raising his voice or displaying any anger. He was a member of the SS Peter & Paul RC Church and its Holy Name Society. He looked after his mother & father, whose home was very near his, until their deaths.
Along with his wife Genevieve, Bob established a
loving and nurturing home life for his children. What greater thing can
be said for a man or a father.

Genevieve, known as Genny to her friends, worked hard her whole life. She married at age 30 and the family spent the greater part of their lives at 214 Chestnut St. in Towanda. She was a religious woman and never failed to attend service as the SS Peter & Paul RC Church on Third St. where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She ensured that her three sons attended St. Agnes for all 12 years. While there was never much money available her children never lacked nice clothes, toys and an allowance, until they were old enough to earn their own money by mowing lawns and later working in stores in Towanda as teenagers. She cheerfully maintained a happy home which was often filled with the wonderful smells of fresh home baked bread or her famous chocolate pie. After the three boys had grown she resumed secretarial work at the Bradford County Agricultural Extension Office in the Towanda Court House. Following the death of her husband Robert in 1964 she sold the Chestnut St. house and lived in a series of apartments in Towanda for the rest of her life. She became active in the Senior Citizens group and particularly enjoyed the scenic bus trips. She lived to see her three sons graduate from college, marry and start their own families. Considering her humble beginnings on a farm in Standing Stone Township she truly had achieved much in her lifetime.
