Joyce's Search Tip - January 2008
Do You Know that you can search  the site by using the Partitioned search engine at the bottom of the Current What's New Page? Family pages are listed on the Family list but also on the individual Township pages in the Photo, Bible, and other sections.
Dear Joyce:

Recently I received information telling my Louisa Hancock was Lovica Champion.

I found the Champion Genealogy in the Madison, WI library and am convinced the information fits.

I wrote a MS word attachment to send to you. You may be able to use it on your site in some form.

Today was the first time I had a chance to look at your site for over three months and couldn't find anything on Henry Vibber Champion family.

The Champion Genealogy by Francis Bacon Trowbridge printed in 1891 has Lovisa (Louisa) Champion married to Jesse Hancock son of Isaac and Jemima Hancock. It lists the children:

LeRoy b. 28 March 1814 married to Eliza Matilda Farnham and their children Lottie (Charlotte) and George.

Violata married to Almon Stevens

William married to Lucy Northrop

Elizabeth married to ___More (Asa Moore)

Lloyd

Jerusha

Henry married to Lizzie Howell of Ithaca NY

Maj. John married to Jennie Reardon residing in Oshkosh, WI

Mary

I have looked for Louisa for many years and thought she may have been a Lathrop. I am now convinced that she is the daughter of Henry Vibber Champion and Violata Garey and they were from Franklin CT and came to Black Walnut, PA. They came there in 1798 and Henry was a farmer. They are both buried in the old burying ground in Black Walnut.

This corresponds to my research in so many ways.

I have :

Jesse Hancock b. 28 March 1784 born in Wyalusing and died 31 Dec. 1834 in Stevensville. He is son of Isaac and Jemima (Van Horn) Hancock

Louisa b. 10 May 1781 in Franklin, CT and died 24 Sept. 1837 in Pike. Both buried in the Stevensville cemetery.

Children:

LeRoy (maybe Frank LeRoy) b. 28 March 1814 d. 21 Dec 1861 Tioga County

married to Eliza Matilda Farnham 23 Sept. 1857

Violetta b. 28 Jan 1816 Wyalusing married to Almon P. Stevens 6 March 1839 Pike, PA

William b. 13 April 1818 Wyalusing d. 31 March 1890 Marinette, WI married to Lucy A. Northup about 1840 in Bradford County.

Loyd b. 25 Sept 1820 (I have not been able to find him)

Elizabeth b. 12 Jan 1822 Wyalusing d. 5 Nov. 1876 Troy, PA married Asa B. Moore about 1842

Jerusha b. 22 June 1825 d. 9 Oct 1856 married Andrew Oliver Dexter 18 Oct. 1855 Troy.

Henry Christian Hancock b. 18 Feb. 1828 d. 8 April 1864 Mansfield, De Soto Co., LA married Elizabeth Muirheid Howell 23 Dec. 1865 Danby, Tompkins, NY.

(He was a Captain in the 17th Reg. TX Cavalry and killed in battle at Mansfield lived in Nacogdoches, TX)

John Henry Hancock b. 12 Aug. 1830 d. 9 April 1894 City Point, WI married to Jane "Jennie" Reardon 12 Feb. 1862 in Oshkosh, WI.

He was a Col. In Co. S. 14 WI Vol. Infantry and a lawyer and Justice of Peace in Oshkosh.

Mary b. 10 April 1835 Wyalusing d. 9 January 1890.

(The last I have of her is in Athens in 1860 census, the death date from family records)
