Executor of John Coon
Setters testamentary upon the estate of John Coon of Granville Twp
deceased granted unto Eli J. Wight he having first been duly sworn to administer

died on the 18th day of Dec 1891. Given under the hand and

I believe that the Coon family immigrated from Germany prior to 1807
and eventually settled in the area around Roxbury, Delaware County, NY
before moving on to Bradford County, PA. This conclusion is based on the
following evidence:
1. The information given by John Coon in the 1880 census which states
that he was born in New York and that his father was born in Germany;
2. Bradford County Death Records show that his wife, Sally, was born in Roxbury NY.
3. John was married in Prattville, Greene County, NY.
4. John Coon appears in the 1840 census of Sheshequin, Bradford County, PA.
John Coon was born 06 Apr 1807 in NY. He married Sally Rivenbury who was born 01 Sep 1812 in Roxbury NY. According to The Reporter Journal dated Thu Dec 24 1891, they were married 14 Aug 1831 in Prattville, Greene, NY.
Census records indicate that in 1840 the family lived in Sheshequin and then in 1850, 1860 and 1870 in LeRoy Township both in Bradford County PA. Finally, John and Sally appear in the 1880 census for Granville Township. John was a farmer and apparently a very successful one. In the 1880 census, at the age of 73, his real estate was valued at $7000.00
He and Sally had 9 children:
1. Antoine F. born in 18?? and died in 1918
2. Viana born in 1833 and died in 1894
3. Emilla M. born in 1839 and died in 1922
4. William R. born in 1842 and died in 1886
5. Eleanor Jane born in 1844 and died in 1869
6. Charles Wesley born 1846 and died in 1916 (Was married 4 times)
7. Rachel born in 1849 and died in 1851
8. Isaac F. born in 1852 - ??
9. Adelbert born in 1855 - ??
I am still searching for information on John and Sally’s children.
The 1880 census indicates that John had heart disease.
John died on 18 Dec 1891 in Bradford County PA. Both he and Sally are buried in the LeRoy Cemetery in Bradford County, PA. I have photographs of their gravesites.
Bradford County Death Records give Sally's cause of death as paralysis after a duration of 5 months on 01 Aug 1896.
People mentioned in the will
Wealthy Coon – widow of John’s son William R. Coon
Sylvester Coon – son of Wealthy and William R. Coon
Eleanor Coon – daughter of Wealthy and William R. Coon
Claude S. Coon – son of Charles W. Coon (Charles W. and William R. were brothers)
Carrie E. Coon – daughter of Charles W. Coon
The next three names mentioned in the will: Malla, Delancy and Sura, I suspect are Charles W.’s other three children: Melvin, Delansa, and Sarah or Cora. I’m not sure why the spellings are the way they are in the will. It makes sense to me that since John included Claude and Carrie, he would include his other grandchildren by Charles W.
Ok – now I have found Lura. Is this Sura?
