Last Will and Testament of Eliel Stevens, late of Ridgebury, deceased.
In the name of God Amen. I Eliel Stevens of the township of Ridgebury,
County of Bradford and state of Pennsylvania being of sound mind, but weak
in body, considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the
time thereof thereof [sic] and to the end that I may be the better prepared
to leave this [undecipherable] whenever it shall please God to call me
hence do therefore make and declare this my last will and testament, hereby
revoking all former will by me at any time heretofore made and first and
principally I commit my soul into the hands of my Creator who [undecipherable]
and my body to the Earth to be interred in the Burying Ground near by where
my beloved and contented Wife and Son are interred and as to such worldly
Estate as it has pleased God in his infinite mercy to intrust me with I
dispose of as follows and first it is my will and wish and I therefore
direct my Executors hereinafter named to pay all my just debts and funeral
expenses as soon after my death as the same conveniently can be from the
Estate which I may leave and also to purchase and put up suitable Tombstones
as to them shall seem fit and proper. Secondly, I give and devise to my
beloved son, William Stevens, in addition to the amount which I have already
advanced and given to him the sum of one hundred dollars to be paid to
him by my Executors as soon as the same can be realized by money from the
property that shall come into their hand belonging to any Estate or at
least within one year after my decease and as to the remainder and residue
of my Estate I give devise and bequeath the said real and personal estate
to my beloved children, to wit: Mary Harrington, wife of John Harrington,
Eliza Hopkins, wife of Lazarus Hopkins, Anna Calkins, wife of Roswell Calkins,
Parmelia Lefler, wife of Lasison Lefler, Ama [this should be Amy] Weeks,
wife of Charles Weeks, Miranda [Mirandee?] Hill, wife of James Hill, and
my son Jacob Stevens, to be divided equally between them, and I further
direct that any executers [sic] hereinafter named shall as soon as may
conveniently can sell all my real and personal property and convert the
same into money and divide it among my devisees as before mentioned. My
wish is and direct that my personal be sold at Publick vendue to be conducted
and managed by my executirs [sic] as usual in such cons & according
to law and as to my real estate which I shall leave at the time of my decease
I give my executirs, or the survivor of them full power to sell the same
and to give deeds or to make & execute such other writing as may be
necessary in the sale of such real estate and as fast as they shall receive
the money from the sale of my real & personal Estate they shall distribute
the same among my devisees herein named as aforesaid and my said executirs
[sic] Shall lease said real estate till the same shall be sold. I give
to Eliel Harrington My Grand Son and Son of John Harrington my rifle to
be delivered to him by my Executir [sic] as soon as the same shall come
into their hands after my decease And I do hereby make and appoint my beloved
Son William Stevens and Sturges Squires my Executirs [sic] of this my last
will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and
seal on this the 9th day of July, A. D. one thousand Eight hundred
and fifty three.

Subscribed in our presence by Eliah [sic] Stevens as his last will &
testament on the 9th day of July, A. D. 1853. H. C. Baird, N.

I, Eleal [sic] Stevens, being of sound mind & memory, do make the
following addition to my last will and testament, that is to say having
disposed of my real estate by deed executed this day and taken a mortgage
to secure the payments of the purchase money, I do hereby direct that my
Executers [sic] shall pay over to my several legatees as mentioned in my
said will _________________________________________ shall within Seven
years from my decease according to the payments to become _____________
________________ in the bond & mortgage for the _____________ money
for the real estate as before mentioned. Witness my hand and seal on this
the 29th day of September, 1853. Eliel Stevens [seal]

Probate taken March 7, 1855
1001 William Stevens, Sturges Squire, Executors of Eliel Stevens, Deceased.
Letters Testamentary upon the Estate of Eliel Stevens, late of Ridgebury,
deceased, granted to William Stevens and Sturges Squire, they having been
first been duly sworn to well and duly administer upon said Estate, according
to Law Given under the hand the official seal of the Register at Towanda
the 16th day of March, A. D. 1855. Inventory filed March 3,
1855.
