January 1, 1880 – All at the gathering of the Riggs family at A. Riggs’s. Nearly all present, a good time. Elected Secretary to prepare minutes for the next meeting and keep a record of births & deaths, etc. In the evening we children make a surprise for mother, the whole family present & Uncle Samuel Riggs & wife a pleasant time.

June 7 – Meet School Board. Take seat on Board elected for 3 years. Appointed Secretary and Treasurer. A. C. Blackwell called for Sensus Report. Report total value of lumber manf. in ?? during part year was #9000.00, and that our hens laid during part year 40 doz. Eggs and our cow made 3 firkins Butter.

June 9 – See Director, could not legally hold Secretary and Treasurer on School Board. Father appointed in my place.
