We now have a local history museum in Mansfield representing the area in and near Mansfield including Richmond, Sullivan, Rutland, Covington, Tioga and more
Visit the History Center on Main Street at 83 North Main Street where our library resources are housed. We also have a museum location at 61 North Main Street.
Regular hours are noon to 3 T, W Th or by appointment. Extended Summer Hours

Jan. 1 – Milo Peet Buried today, died last Sunday.

Jan. 6 – Attend Sunday School at 10:30 AM at Burlington Boro an address by Rev. R. Crittenden

Jan. 22 – Secure notice of being elected Inspector of Election for 1 year Town of West Burlington

Feb. 7 – Work in the sawmill cold. Wilmot Goff died.

April 5 – Henry Hills portable Steam Mill burned down in the evening.

Apr. 13 – Mrs. Wolcutt married and horned also

May 8 – Work in saw-mill ½ day rains and snows very hard all day. Creek highest ever known Bridge gone. Mill-dam broke water to high to tell how much damage is done.

May 9 – damage done to mill-dam, is estimated at $500.

May 10 – trying to collect co a/c get $5. Snow on Armenia Mountain 18 inches deep.

May 11 – Help get saw-logs out of hole in mill-dam with Langford & others.

May 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17

May 18 – Mrs. Thomas Blackwell died

May 19

May 20 – Work in the saw-mill-rainy wheat flour $20 per (?), corn $2 per bush. Few oats saved no garden planted.

May 21 – Work in saw-mill ¾ day at Funeral of Mrs. Blackwell, rainy. Funeral at old church, Burlington

May 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31

July 30 – Go to Havana, N.Y. go through Havana Glen and go to a circus at Watkins in the evening with C. W. Smith.

Aug. 1 – Come home from Havana. Go through the "Pottery" these A. O. Whitamoro Prop. (not sure of spelling)

Aug. 20 – At an union Picnic at Mountain Lake most of the Schools in the County were there, a pleasant time.

Sept. 3 – Married to Miss Isadore Wheat of Burlington Boro, Penna. Looking for guidance from above and a Stronger faith in God we start on life’s voyage joined Heart & Hand. Go to Troy from there to Elmira.

Sept. 4 – Start from Elmira at 6 a.m. take dinner in Rochester arrive at Niagara Falls at about 5 p.m. there is a grandeur about the falls which is undescribable. Return to Rochester put up at the "Waverly House".

Sept. 5 – get Photographs taken, visit "Mount Hope" "Flower Gardens" which were Beautiful. Start for Troy at 12 noon, arrive in Troy at 7 p.m. Father meets us there, arrive home very tired & sleepy. Had a very pleasant trip for a short one.

Sept. 6, 7, 8, 9

Sept. 10 – go to see James Jenney to see about painting house to live in.

Sept. 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 – Fixing House

Sept. 24 – Isadore goes with Father to Towanda to buy things to keep house.

Sept. 25 – Fixing house

Sept. 26 – Isadore came to help paper house. Whitewash AC warm

Sept. 27, 28, 29, 30, Oct. 1, 2 – Fixing House, finish on Oct. 2.

Oct. 3 – Move today. Rather lonesome. Commencing House Keeping. (??) Burton & Davy McAffee and Wm. Riggs come visiting to fathers.

Oct. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16

Oct. 17 – Pull stumps for D. Bourne. Isadore, Hester, Ophelia & self attend an exhibition at Burlington Boro, Penna.

Nov. 23 – Isaac Robinsons child died.

Nov. 24 – Sunday School and Funeral of Isaac Robinsons child at 2 p.m. Sermon by Rev. E. Sweet.

Dec. 1, 2, 3

Dec. 4 – Work on ox stables for D. Bourne in Evening meet at Burlington to see about a Christmas tree on a Committee to help get a tree and secure speakers. Tree to be on Christmas Eve.

Dec. 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22

Dec. 23 – Isadore & myself at Burlington helping get tree and decorating house for a Christmas tree. (may not be exactly what it says, but close as I can read)

Dec. 24 – Christmas tree at Burlington by Union S. School. (??) Sup’t. of School presented with a silver pitcher valued at $25.00 a pleasant time.

Dec. 25, 26, 27

Dec. 28 – Work in the saw mill 18 hours hole in the mill dam. Received letter from Isaac Betts.
