BENNING –ELIZABETH (BETTY) J. SAYMAN, of Overton, passed away on Friday, June 3, 1994, at the Kramm Nursing Home in Watsontown, Pa. She was born on March 27, 1921, in Wilkes-Barre. This year, Betty and her husband Grover C. Sayman would have celebrated 52 years of marriage. For the past 17 years, she has resided in Allenwood, Pa. Prior to that, she had spent many years in the Overton area. She had attended St. Peter-s United Church of Christ at Hugo Corners in Overton. When in the Overton area, she was employed as a telephone operator for several years. Surviving is her husband, Grover C. Sayman, of Kramm Nursing Home in Watsontown; one brother and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 1994, at 11 a.m. in the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore, Pa., with the Rev. Robert W. Martin, pastor of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will be in the Overton Methodist Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to call on Monday evening, June 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHenry Funeral Home in Dushore. –Towanda Daily Review.
BESLEY –GLADYS I. BESLEY LANCASTER, 95, formerly of RR 2 New Albany (Overton) Pa., passed away Monday evening, June 17, 2002 at the Skilled Nursing Unit, Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa. Born Aug. 15, 1906 in Horseheads, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Lucy Longwell Besley. Gladys attended schools in Horseheads, and in earlier years was employed by the Artistic Card Co. in Elmira, N.Y. In December of 1929 she married Earl R. Lancaster. In 1936, Gladys and Earl moved to Overton, where they operated their poultry business for many years. During WWII, Gladys was employed at Sylvania Electric in Towanda, and later was employed at Dushore Lingerie for many years until her retirement in 1977. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ of Overton. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, C. Russell and Carol Lancaster of Horseheads and Richard and Concetta Lancaster of Warminster, Pa.; five grandchildren, Nancy Eddy, Diane Brautigan, Mark Lancaster, Eric Lancaster; Brian Lancaster; three great-grandchildren, Heather and Kyle Brautigan and Devin Lancaster; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl R. Lancaster, on Jan. 5, 1994; a brother, Edward Besley; two sisters, Marion Warner and Julia Storch. The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 20, 2002 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Overton, Pa., with Rev. Robert Martin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service Thursday afternoon at the church. Interment will be in the Overton Cemetery, Overton Twp., Pa. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the Skilled Nursing Unit, Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa., or to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Towanda, Pa. in Gladys Lancaster’s memory. CLINTON J. DAY 62 of Williamsport died Aug. 30, 1988 in Williamsport Hospital. He was born Jan. 6, 1926 in Estella a son of Leon H. and Hazel B. McCarty Day. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Navy Seabees. He retired as a maintenance worker at the State Correctional Institution at Muncy in 1984. He was a member of PARSE and an associate member of The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 29 of Williamsport. He was a member of the High Street United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Donna Sayman; a son, Daniel C. of Mechanicsburg, PA and a daughter, Mrs. Linda A. Bowen of Williamsport; three brothers, Kenneth L. of Canton, Norman R. of State College, Harry J. of Montoursville; two sisters, Mrs. Teresa Myers of Eli sport, PA and Mrs. Anna Miller of Lock Haven and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Williamsport with Rev. Logan G. Swanger officiating. Burial was in the Overton United Methodist Cemetery, Overton. DAY Gene W. Day
88, of New Albany died at his home on March 24, 2012 with his family by his side. He was born on May 23, 1923 at home on the family farm a son of the late Arley and Anna (Osler) Day. On Sept. 17, 1955 he married Elizabeth (Wolfe) Day and together they filled their home with love and happiness. Gene loved to live. As a young man he obtained a pilot’s license and enjoyed flying planes. He also traveled throughout the U.S. and many countries. He also loved trains and working in his garden. He will be most remembered for having the biggest garden in New Albany proudly giving away produce such as asparagus and rhubarb to his many friends and neighbors. Gene often got together with the "boys" for morning coffee and of course none would forget the stories he would tell and remembering every detail. He had a passion for collecting antiques and donated many to the Bradford County Historical Society and local library. He cared about animals donating regularly to the Bradford County Humane Society. Gene grew up working on his family's farm and was employed by the township roads. He also worked at Sylvania for several years and was employed by the state Liquor Control Board managing the store in Dushore for 28 years. Gene was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Wolfe) Day in 1996, and his sisters Irene Fiester and Ina Avery. Gene is survived by his daughters: Lorraine (Ben) Leljedal of New Albany and Lynn (Mark) Canty of Sterling, Va.; a stepson, Richard C. Taliaferro of Glen Lyon; grandchildren Kelsey and Stephen Leljedal, Bryan and Bradley Canty and Richard Sims; sisters Shirley Warburton and Jule Driscoll; brother Bruce Day; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Bradford County Humane Society, U.S. Route 220, Ulster, PA 18850, Dushore Fire and Ambulance Co., PO Box 517 Dushore, PA. 18614. FASSETT Marjorier Pauline - Marjorie Pauline Fassett Beeman Bahr, 88, formerly of Montoursville, Pa., died Tuesday morning, Aug. 3, 2010 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital in North Towanda Twp., Pa. Marjorie was born July 10, 1922 in Stevensville, Pa., the daughter of the late Ernest Fassett and Pearl McCarty Fassett. In early years, Marjorie worked for a garment manufacturing company in Dushore, Pa. She was later employed by Ann Page Food Products in Horseheads, N.Y., for many years until her retirement. Marjorie enjoyed spending time with her family, caring for her pets, raising vegetables in her garden and canning. Surviving are: her children, Stanley Charles Beeman and Charlene Young of Williamsport, Pa., William Beeman and his wife Nancy of Bloomsburg, Pa., Kathie Blow and her husband Patrick of Spring Lake, Pa.; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Harry Fassett and his wife Janice of Mysersburg, Pa.; sisters, Betty Bardell and her husband Merlin of Middletown, Pa., Norma Beeman of Overton, Pa.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Bahr, in June of 2004; her son, Paul Jordan Beeman in August of 1977; a sister, Irene Rood; and a brother, Ernest Fassett Jr. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, at the United Church of Christ, Overton Pa., with her grandson, Pastor Paul Beeman officiating. Interment will be in the Overton Cemetery, Overton, Pa. HAVERLY –MILDRED E. BIRD, 93, of New Albany RD 2, passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 1992, at the Bradford County Manor, following a lingering illness. She was born on March 26, 1899 in Overton Township, the daughter of the late John and Anna Sheeler Haverly. She was a member of the Overton United Methodist Church, and was very active in earlier years serving various offices. She was also an active member of the Overton Women’s Community Club and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in New Albany. Mildred possessed a great love for her home and family and will always be remembered for her sweet and kind ways and consideration for others. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Douglas Ginter of Towanda; a son and daughter-in-law, Calvin Ray Bird Sr. and Shirley Bailey Bird of New Albany RD 2 (Overton); six grandchildren, Linda S. Yeager of Sayre; Jill A. Ginter of Milan; Calvin Ray Bird Jr. of Waverly; Carl Bird of New Albany RD 2 (Overton); Kyle Bird of Dushore; Cindy Bird of Sugar Run; two great-grandchildren, Scott Yeager of Sayre; and Natalie Bird of Dushore; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bird was preceded in death by her husband, the late Edgar (Ted) Bird on Sept. 9, 1968. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Carl Edgar Bird and two brothers, Alvin and Thomas. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 1992 in the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore, with the Rev. Karl Hermon, pastor of the New Albany United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Overton United Methodist Cemetery. DONALD EDMUND ‘NED’ O’CONNOR, 52, of New Albany RR 2, PA died on Saturday, October 28, 1995 in Cherry Township, Sullivan County, PA. Born on July 31, 1943 in Towanda, PA, he was the son of Donald Eugene and Doris Maxine Bird O’Connor. Mr. O’Connor was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a self-employed tavern owner. Ned was a lifetime member of the New Albany VFW Post No. 384. Surviving are his mother, Doris Dibble of Overton, PA; sons, David O’Connor Reed of Silver Springs, MD and Michael O’Connor of Overton; a daughter, Diane Benscoter of Laceyville, PA; brothers, John O’Connor of Cape Cod, MA, Patrick O’Connor of New Albany RR and Michael O’Connor of Wyalusing, PA; sisters, Bonnie Graves of Genesee, PA and Kathy Quail of New Albany; two grandchildren. Funeral Services were held October 31 at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home in Dushore with the Rev. Robert Brown, pastor of Dushore United Methodist Church, officiating and burial in Overton United Methodist Cemetery. A graveside memorial service was accorded by the New Albany VFW Post 384.
Accident Victim’s Funeral Wednesday
DUSHORE — The funeral and burial will be Wednesday for Michael Alan QUAIL,
29, of New Albany RD 2, who died Sunday night, June 22, 1986, of injuries
suffered in a vehicle accident on Route 87 at Millview. A passenger, Bruce
Rider, 28, of Eagles Mere, is in serious condition today at Divine Provid-ence
Hospital, Williamsport, in the intensive care unit. He was listed as critical
yesterday. Mr. Quail was born Sept. 4, 1956, at Towanda, a son of Burdell and
Arlene McCarty Quail. A lifelong resident of Sullivan County, he was employed
as a driver for the Earl D. Fraley Trucking Co. Mr. Quail was graduated in 1975
from Sullivan County High School. Surviving, besides his parents, of Shunk, are
his wife, the former Kathy O’Connor; a son, Alan, and daughter, Paula, both at
home; two brothers, Gerald, of Canton, and Scott, of Dushore; five sis-ters,
Mrs. Carol Sager, of Athens RD, Mrs. Cheryl Bahr, of Dushore, Miss Susan and Mrs.
Julie Leljedal, both of Forksviile, and Mrs. Debra Taffe, of Fayetteville,
N.C., and paternal grandfather, Ellery Quail, of Shunk. The funeral will be at
2 pm. Wednesday at McHenry’s, 119 Carpenter Street. Burial will be in Overton
Methodist Cemetery, Overton. The Rev. Robert W. Brown, pastor of
Dushore-Overton-Elk-land United Church of Christ Charge, will officiate.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight.
RIEDMILLER Rosemary L. Cotton
Rosemary L. Cotton 92, formerly of Towanda, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 in the Bradford County Manor in Burlington, Pa. Rosemary was born on Nov. 21, 1918, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Hamm Riedmiller in Bushkill, Pa. She was married to the late Frank R. Cotton until his passing in 1984. Rosemary worked most of her life in the garment industry as a seamstress. She retired from the Endicott Johnson Shoe company in Mildred, Pa. She was a member of the United Garment Workers, and a member of the B.P.O.E., Elks Lodge in Towanda. Rosemary loved the mountains and being outdoors, she loved dancing and socializing with her many friends. She is survived by her two sons, Robert of Towanda, and Frank and (Patricia) Cotton of FuquayVarina, N.C.; three grandchildren, Kathleen Luciano, Frank M. and Robert C. Cotton; and three great-grandchildren, Madeline, Kaitlin and Lillian Luciano. She was preceded in death by her five brothers, Franklin, Harold, Xavier Charles, Robert, and Phillip Riedmiller. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 22, in the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore, PA 18614, with Rev. Robert W. Brown Officiating. Family and friends are invited to view from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Friday morning at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Overton Methodist Cemetery, Overton Pa. ADDISON RINEBOLD (SRGP 46801)of Overton passed
away at his home, Tuesday, February, 11, 1951 following a short illness at the
age of 89 years. Mr. Rinebold was a retired farmer and was held in high
esteem in his community. He is survived by his wife and the following
children; Murray and Raymond Rinebold of Elmira; Francis Rinebold of Rochester;
Mrs. Grace Robbins of Corning and Mrs. Jane Dibble at home, also a number of
grandchildren. Funeral service will be held in the Methodist church at
Overton, Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment in the adjoining
