Matteson Family Reunions began in 1897. The 1903 and 1908 reunions were
held in Knoxville, Tioga County,
Pa. The Knoxville Courier reported in 1908 that George Matteson
was the oldest Matteson to attend the 1908 Reunion. It is believed to have
been Civil War veteran George Matteson(1829-1910), son of Gardner Matteson
and great grandson of Revolutionary War veteran David Matteson, who spent
the twilight years of his life in Tioga County. David's sons Solomon, Jonathon
and Alexander settled in Knoxville in 1810, migrating from Herkimer County,
N. Y. George Matteson is believed to be in this picture of the 1904 Reunion.
Many of the Matteson descendants who lived in Tioga County during the 19th
Century changed the spelling of their surname to Mattison for reasons whatever.
