These clippings from ancient and fragile newspapers stored above the Troy Gazette-Register office are being typed by Tri-County volunteers for presentation on site. Primarily we are preserving the neighborhood news columns and the obituary, marriage and birth information included in them. I intend also to include articles that show the influences on the lives and attitudes of our local populations at the time, and I will also illustrate the individual pages with ads from the era. Nothing is more revealing of lifestyle than the goods and services available.
The TGR covers the area of all townships surrounding Troy and many neighborhoods have a local column submitted, but not necessarily every week or even every year.
Our thanks goes to the staff of the Troy Gazette-Register for giving us access to this valuable old news so that we can share it with you. There is no better way to understand the culture and customs of our old communities than by sifting through these clippings.  Even the names of some of these old communities have ceased to exist in today's world, but we have them captured and preserved here.  If you do not have the time to enjoy the luxury of sifting through clippings, these will be included in the Search Engine which you can reach from the "Front Door" of the Tri-County Genealogy & Historysites by Joyce M. S.C. VERNON has rented the Johnson house of Horace SPENCER.

Fred WHITEHEAD HAS BOUGHT THE Josiah DARROW farm and will take possession this week.

Andrew WHITEHEAD will move in the house vacated by his brother Fred.

Miss Blennie SPENCER was dress-making for Mrs. Luther BEACH last week.

Mrs. Mary SPENCER was quite ill last week but is improving.

Mrs. Lewellyn ALLEN is in Elmira to attend the wedding of her sister, Helen BROOKS.

James DARROW is moving to the Simom Stanton farm near Troy and Earl BROWN to Horace Spencer’s lower farm.

James DARROW visited Dr. Tuttle at Sayre last week to receive treatment for diseased eye.

Grace ROBERTSON and Patience BATEMAN have been holding meetings in the Vroman Hill church for two weeks and will continue this week.

Miss Helen SWARTWOOD is spending some time at Sayles with her aunt, Mrs. Ami PARKHURST, who is quite ill.

Jesse KNOWLDEN will work for Roy ALLEN the coming year.

A Sunday school was organized at Vroman Hill last Sunday. The following officers were elected: Superintendent, Horace SPENCER; assistant, John WHITEHEAD; secretary, Leon EVANS; treasurer, Hilda MONROE.

Cyril DARROW has entered the employ of George ROCKWELL at West Burlington.

Mrs. B. D.PHILLIPS closes her school at Pension street this week Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Llewellyn ALLEN have moved to their farm near Mountain Lake.

This place was well represented at the graduating exercises of the West Burlington township high school last week Monday night. Jesse W. KNOWLDEN of this place was one of the graduates.

Mrs. Margaret SHEPARD of Canton spent last week with her daughter, Mrs. Roy Allen.

Miss Ruth JOHNSON, formerly of this place, who is now living near Canisteo, N.Y., was married to William GULLIVER of that place, March 19, Congratulations.

Lloyd BARRETT is working for Llwellyn ALLEN.

Sunday School was reorganized last Sunday the following officers were elected: Andrew WHITEHEAD, superintendent; Monroe SWARTWOOD assistant, Fay WILBER, secretary; Mildred SWARTWOOD, treasurer; Myrtle DARROW, librarian.

Leonard AYRES is moving in Edsall SELLECK’S tenant house.

Miss Mary BOURNE of Bourne, spent last week with her grandmother, Mrs. Mary SPENCER, who is somewhat improved.

Ezra B SELLECK has finished his school at Mina, Potter county, and has now gone to Washington, D. C., after spending a week at his home here.

Mr. and Mrs. Elwin SPENCER of Elmira, visited their mother, Mrs. Mary SPENCER recently.

Mrs. Rubie Kinsman has purchased a house and lot in Gillett and has moved there, taking her little son, Meredith, with her.

Mr. and Mrs. Merritt SPENCER attended the wedding of their son, Ivan to Miss Minnie BACK, at Rochester, N. Y. Wednesday evening, April 30. While away Mr. and Mrs. Spencer visited their brother, Elwin SPENCER in Elmira.

Mrs. Lonnie FREELOVE and two children of Plainsboro, N. J., spent two weeks with her father, Freemont BOLT recently.

Walter PARKHURST of Sayles, visited his cousin, Carlton SWARTWOOD and attended church here Sunday.

Rev. Ezra JOHNSON and son Irwin, of Buena Vista, N.Y., are spending two weeks at their farm here.

Mrs. Burdell PHILLIPS returned last week from a visit with her mother at Osceola, Pa., and sister at Lawrenceville.

Mr. and Mrs. Horace SPENCER returned Saturday from Rochester, N. Y., where they had been visiting their son Floyd and family.

Miss Mildred SWARTWOOD entertained a company of friends last week Tuesday evening in honor of her 18th birthday.

There was a variety shower Friday evening for Miss Ella SELLECK, who is to be married Wednesday, June 4, to Rev. Judson C. BARROWS of Baptistown, N. J.

Mr. and Mrs. Irwin HATTIN and three children of Brainbridge, N. Y., are visiting Mrs. Hattin’s mother, Mrs. Martha BROWN and other relatives in this vicinity.

There was a birthday party for Mrs. J. B. DICKINSON last Wednesday evening. An enjoyable time is reported.

The relatives of Earl BROWN gave him a birthday party last week, Tuesday.

Mrs. Viada BOORHIS, who has been staying in Elmira, returned Saturday to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl BROWN.

The neighbors of Jesse G. KNOWLDEN gave him a surprise party on the evening of June 14, in honor of his 44th birthday.
