Pitts Block Main Street
[Retan 1957] There were grocery stores at the corner of N. Main and Central Streets from the earliest days. Asa Mann may have had one here in 1832. At that time G. N. Welch who had had a store on S. Main Street, built the brick block with two store fronts on each street. In 1896 he sold to R. W. and M. F. Rose. They ran a general store here until 1929 when they sold to Prestons, Inc. who still run it.
Update 2013, The Welch Block, later known as The Rose Building, burned in 1998 [check date]
