The Art & Humor of     Stanley Johnson of Waupun, Wisconsin

date
Up to Date copyright Feb 1910. Although this airplane theme occured early in Johnson's work, he did not repeat it in any form after. Other humor artists also used the airplane theme. This is in the Waupun HIstorical Society, printed here with permission.

Kickers (1913) kickers
I am at Waupun But Not in the Pen (1913) lunch
This is the same as the regularly captioned card, "Lunch" but with a humorous variant overprint/
Alfalfa (1913)

This is another example of the 1918 overprint of feeding the army listed in our variants page. This is one of the few that does not show a date or copyright notice on the card. It was, however, copyright registered in 1913. It is technically complex because images of the same children are repeated further and further back in increasingly small scale. That would take a lot of meticulous cutting and pasting to achieve.
Dunnar Veter, Vos Ist? (1913) turtle

  Pork Is Going Down 1921
This uses the language of commodity markets which usually refers to price. Not only is this an oddity by the very act of the fish coming out of the water, but the position of the pigs' eyes rolled back adds to it. This is unlike anythi8ng else Johnson has done, except Dangerous and Let Go I'm Not Jonah.
