Last Will & Testament of Lovel Short, dec’d )
Adelia T. Short Benona Short  ) Executors

Chatham May 13, 1872, Know all men by these presents, That I, Lovel Short 2, being in my rite mind do make my last Will as follows, That my wife  shall have the use of the twenty acres of land that I  bought of John Short as her own as long as she remains my widow and then it is to be her childrens that she has had by me.  She is also to have one third of all that grows on the remainder part of the farm such as (salk?) sheep hoghs and soforth for the next seven years.  This year she to have the same part that John Davis agreed to pay me.  She is also to have to two cows and all the housen furniture and other articles about the house.  She is to have one third of every thing that grows and is raised on the farm above mentioned time.  Eli my son is to have the refusial of working the farm by giving her the above one third and keeping the farm in repair paying all the taxes and finding all seed-grain tiam and tools and is to work it in a good workman like maner, if he does not do it, the Executors shall have the right to let the farm to who they think best.  Alfred Short my son, after the above seven years is up is to have thirty acres of land on the East side of my farm the line running parallel with the East line he is also to have his bringing up and support with her for the above seven years if he chuses.  The remainder of the farm after the seven years is up is to be divided equally between Ely Short, Aurilla Davis and Mary Davis, my son and two daughters.  I also appoint my wife and Benona Short as Executors to settle my Estate, sell off loos property enought to do it.  The remainder my wife is to have.  I also want Alfred Short to have all that belongs to me from my fathers estate   Signed and sealed

                               This day before me, Darius L. Deane, Register for the Probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration in and for the County aforesaid personally came Benona Short and Mrs. Julia A. Short, two of the subscribing Witnesses to the within Will who being duly sworn according to law do say that they were personally present and saw and heard Lovel Short the testator within named, sign, by making his mark seal publish pronounce and declare the within instrument of writing as and for his last will and Testament, and that at the time of so doing he was of sound mind, memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief

              Probate stamps two dollars
And now to wit, June 3, 1872, Letters Testamentary (common form) on the foregoing Will were this day issued to Adelia T. Short widow of said decedent, and to Benona Short the Executors therein named, they having taken the oath prescribed by law
