GENERAL AFFIDAVIT
State of Pennsylvania, County of Tioga, SS:
In the matter of claim of Almeda Bockus widow of Joseph Bockus Co. G 45 Penn Vols
On this 12 day of May, a. D. 1908, personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths Vine Loecy aged 52 years, a resident of Charleston Township, in the County of Tioga, and State of Pennsylvania whose Post Office address is Wellsboro Tioga Co Pa
well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: I have known the claimant from childhood and Joseph Bockus her husband for forty-two years and was present and saw them married at Keeneyville (?) On the 28th day of February 1867 and know that they lived together from that time until the death of Joseph Bockus which occurred on the 24th day of March 1908.
I gain this knowledge by being a brother of Almeda Bockus. I further state that she had not been married previous to her marriage to Joseph Bockus.
I further declares that I have no interest in said case and am not concerned in its prosecution.

ON THIS 12th day of May A D. 1908, personally appeared before me a justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths George E. Lesey aged 57 years, a resident of Middleburg Township in the County of Tioga, and State of Pennsylvania whose Post office address is Middleburg Township in the County of Tioga, and State of Pennsylvania whose Post-office address is Middleburg Center R. F. D. No. L, Tioga Co., Pa. Well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:
I have known the claimant Almeda Bockus from childhood and her husband Joseph Bockus ever since we were boys at school—together and was present and saw them married and know they lived together until the death of Joseph Bockus on the 24th day of March 1908--and that she has not remarried since. I am conversant with the facts by being a brother of Almeda Bockus and that she had never been married before.
He further declares that he has no interest in said case and is not concerned in its prosecution.

I am a regularly elected Justice of the Peace of the Town of Lindley. My term expires Dec. 31, 1909. I have before me the family Bible of the record of the Bockus family and I Find recorded therein Leland J. Bockus was born Sept. 18, 1896. I can find nothing about the Bible that shows where, when or by whom it was printed (except) on first leaf is printed the following Self Interpreting Edition with Illustrations

ON THIS 18 day of May, A. D. 1908, personally appeared before me a justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths Almeda Bockus aged 58 years, a resident of Lindley in the County of Steuben, and State of New York whose Post-office address is Lindley N.Y. R. F. D. #l well known to be reputable and entitled to credit and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That I am the claimant and mother of Leland Bockus who was born Sept. 18/96. I did not employ a regular physician but had midwife who waited on me. She has moved away and I have no knowledge of her present address and there is no one that I know of that I may be able to find out where she now is.
There is no public record of the birth of said child, we have a family record in our family Bible made at the time of the birth of said child.
I further declares that I have an interest in said case and am concerned in its prosecution.

ON THIS 25 day of April A. D. 1908, personally appeared before me Justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths George Riffle aged 31 years, a resident of Lindley in the County of Steuben, and State of New York whose Post-office address is same well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:
That I am the regularly elected clerk of the town of Lindley Steuben Co. NY and as such have charge of the books and records of said office and upon examination I find the following:
I also have charged the records and books of the office of vital statics and I find upon examination that Joseph Bockus died 24 day March 1908 from pneumonia.

I further declare that I have no interest in said case and am not concerned in its prosection.

BUREAU OF PENSIONS
IT IS HEREBY CERTIFIED that in conformity with the laws of the United States, Joseph Bockus who was a Private Co. G 45th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry is entitled to a pension at the rate of Twelve dollars per month to commence on the second day of March, one thousand nine hundred and eight.

DECLARATION FOR WIDOW=S PENSION
State of New York, County of Steuben, ss:
On this 11 day of May A. D. One thousand nine hundred and Eight personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid, Almeda Bockus, aged 58 years a resident of Lindley County of Steuben, State of New York who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Joseph Bockus, who enlisted under the name of Joseph Bockus, on the 27 day of Feby, a. D. 1864, as a Private in company G, in the 45 Regiment of Penn. Vol. Inft. And served at least ninety days in the late War of the Rebellion, in the service of the United States, who was HONORABLY DISCHARGED July 17/65, and died March 24/08. That he was not employed in the miliary or naval service otherwise than as stated above.
That he was never employed in the military or naval service of the United States after the 17 day of July, 1865. That she was married under the name of Almeda Locey to said Joseph Bockus, on the 28 day of February a. D. 187 by George Reeney, J.P. at Keenyville, Pa., there being no legal barrier to such marriage; that she had not been previously married; that her said husband had not been previously married...
That she has not remarried since the death of the said Joseph Bockus. That the names and dates of birth of all the children of the soldier, now living, and under sixteen years of age, are as follows:

that she has not abandoned the support of any one of her children, but that they are still under her care of maintenance.......
That she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension-roll of the United States, under the provisions of the act of April 19, 1908. She hereby appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, C. C. English of Corning, NY her true and lawful attorney to prosecute her claim, the fee to be Ten Dollars, payable as prescribed by law. That her post-office address is Lindley NY r. F. D. # l, County of Steuben, State of New York.

On this 24 day of February A. D. One thousand nine hundred and Eight, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, within and for the county and State aforesaid, Joseph Backus, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is 66 years of age, and a resident of the town of Lindley, county of Steuben, State of NewYork; and that he is the identical person who was enrolled at Charleston Pa. Under the name of Joseph Backus, on the 17 day of February, 1864 as a Private, in 45th Reg. Co. G. In the service of the united States, in the civil war, and was honorably discharged at New Alexandria, Virginia, on the 17 day of July, 1865......
That he was not employed in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above. That his personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height, 5 feet l0 l/1 inches; complexion, fair; color of eyes, blue; color of hair, dark; that his occupation was farmer; that he was born March 30, 1841 at Charleston, Tiuoga Co., Pa.
That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows: from Charleston to Middlberry; now lindly Steuben Co. N. Y....
That his post office address is Lindley R. F. D. No. L, county of Steuben, State of New York.

Y., persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being by the duly sworn, say that they were present and saw Joseph Backus, the claimant, sign his name (or make his mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of the claimant and their acquaintance with him of l years and l y7ears, respectively that he is the identical person he represents himself to be, and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.
