Dear Joyce:

I received the following probate information from Barbara Crawford who has a copy of the will and probate files of George H. Owen who died in 1912 in Elmira. George was the last surviving son of Eleazer Owen and Margaret Buck, early settlers of Big Flats, Chemung Co., NY. George Owen's will and the accompanying probate information clearly confirms the lineage of a number of Owen families in the Chemung County, NY, area.

I have copied and now transmit to you, with her permission, the information Barbara Crawford transcribed. I have also included a descendant report which contains the information I have researched about this Owen line. Both Barbara and I are happy to furnish further details and source information to any interested researchers.

Probate file information for George H. Owen [w32] who died Nov. 23, 1912, in Elmira, Chemung Co., NY. His will was proved in December, 1912, and the probate files can be found in the Chemung County Surrogate Court in Elmira.

Most of the information came from a document " In the Matter of Proving the Last Will and Testament of George H. Owen, deceased."

The second paragraph of the above document reads, "That said decedent was at the time of his death a resident of the County of Chemung and departed this life on the 23rd day of November, 1912, at his late residence in said City of Elmira, in said County and State."

The third paragraph says, " That his last Will and Testament relates solely to personal property, and purports to have been executed on the 23rd day of February, 1912, in the presence of Edw. B. Wickham and Wallace W. Seeley, subscribing witnesses thereto."

I give and bequeath unto William S. Owen [w17], son of Elijah B. Owen [w16], the sum of Four Hundred Dollars.
I give and bequeath unto Clara Owen [w18], daughter of William S. Owen [w17], the sum of Five Hundred Dollars
I give and bequeath unto Margaret B Owen [w31], daughter of Albert G. Owen [w26], the sum of Five Hundred Dollars
I give and bequeath unto Francis Owen [w27], son of Albert G. Owen [w26], the sum of Four Hundred Dollars.
I give and bequeath unto George H. Owen [w28], son of Francis Owen [w27], the sum of Three Hundred Dollars
I give and bequeath unto Stephen T. Owen [w30] and Arthur A. Owen [w29], sons of said Francis Owen [w27], the sum of Two Hundred Dollars each.
I give and bequeath unto Mary W. Owen [w23] and Elizabeth Owen [w24], daughters of Sylvester Owen [w19], the sum of Five Hundred Dollars each.

All the rest residue and remainder of my estate, real and personal, including whatever may fall to pass under the foregoing provisions of this, my Will, by reason of lapse, or otherwise, I give devise and bequeath unto my niece, Louise Hughson Way, absolutely

That said decedent left no widow him surviving, nor any children or their descendents, not any brothers or sisters, but left him surviving the following named heirs at law and next of kin to wit:
