Last Will and Testament of Joel Adams
Deceased,
W.H. Merchant and George McLain Executors.
No. 1723, Registers Office Aug. 1882.
This day was presented for probate an instrument in writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Joel Adams late of Lawrenceville, deceased, reading as follows viz;
I Joel Adams of Lawrenceville, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, do make and
publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills.
As to such Estate as it has pleased God to instruct me with, I give
and bequeath as follows;
First: I give and bequeath to my daughter Emily Adams the use and occupation of the house & lot in Lawrenceville, where I now live for and during her natural life to be used for her as she please.
Second: I give and bequeath to my said daughter Emily also, the use and occupation of all my household goods for and during her natural life.
Third: I give and bequeath to my daughter Emily the sum of Thirty five hundred dollars, absolutely to be hers, to be paid to her out of good solvent Notes or deposits in bank. This gift is Thirty Five hundred dollars, and is to paid as aforesaid, the word Thirty have been left out in the second line of this item, by mistake and afterwards written above.
Fourth: After the death of my daughter Emily, ( in case she dies first ) I give and bequeath to my daughters, Martha now married to J. W. Winder and Maria now married to Simeon A. Goodwin and to my daughter Charlotte now married to W. H. Merchant and Delia now married to Edwin Sweetland and Lucy now married to Wesley Chapin and to Enos S. Adams and Elbert J. Adams my sons the house and lot where I now live in Lawrenceville and also my household goods, Share and share alike, Subject however to the life estate which my daughter Emily has in the same and in case either of my daughters should die before Emily then the house and household goods are to go the survivors as aforesaid.
Fifth: After all my just debts and Expenses are paid, I will and bequeath the rest and residue of my Estate to my daughters to wit; Martha, Maria, Charlotte, Delia and Lucy, share and share alike, with this proviso, that the Note I hold against Delia Sweetland and her husband and the Notes and book account I have against Maria and Simeon A. Goodwin her husband are to deducted from the respective shares they are to have of my estate.
Sixth: And I do hereby constitute and appoint W. H. Merchant and George
McLain Sole Executors of this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I Joel Adams the testator, have to this my last
will and testament written on one sheet of paper, set my hand and seal
this thirteenth day of June AD one thousand and eight hundred and eighty.

Signed sealed, published and delivered by the above named Joel Adams
as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto
subscribed our names at his request as witness thereto in the presence
of the said testator and each other.

This day before me Geo. C. Brown Register for the Probate of Wills
and granting letters of Administration in and for said County personally
came Henry Sherwood and Walter Sherwood, the subscribing witnesses to the
foregoing Will, who have being duly sworn according to law do say that
they were present and saw and heard Joel Adams the testator sign, seal,
publish, pronounce and declare the foregoing instrument of writing as and
for his last will and testament and that at the time of so doing he was
of sound mind, memory and understanding, that they signed their names thereto
as witnesses, in the presence of and at the request of said testator, and
in the presence of each other and that all erasures and interlineations
in said will were made before signing & execution & noted by them.

Sworn and subscribed before me this 18th day of Aug. 1882.

And now August 18, 1882 the within and foregoing will adjudged to be
duly proved as required by law and is therefore recorded filed and decreed
to be a valid will and force and effect as such.

Same day on application, Letters Testamentary, commence from, on the foregoing will were granted to W. H. Merchant and George McLain the Executor therein named, they having duly sworn as required by law and filed an affidavit showing that said testator died at his residence in Lawrenceville on the 8th day of August 1882.
